Any Advantages With A Mac?
Are there any advantages to using an iPhone with a Mac, as opposed to using it with a PC? Does the iPhone work better/faster with a Mac, or is there no difference?
I'm no Windows fan, but let's not make this look worse than it is.
* For e-mail, you need to buy Outlook, 'cos the iPhone doesn't work with Windows XP Outlook Express or Windows Vista Windows Mail, right?
It's supposed to work with Outlook Express. (Free)
* For the Address Book, you need to buy Outlook (again) 'cos the iPhone doesn't work with Windows XP Address Book or Windows Vista Windows Contact, right?
Doesn't work with Address Book, but not needed. (See above.)
* For photos, you need to buy Photoshop Elements. I guess the new Windows Photo Gallery in Vista doesn't work with the iPhone?
"iPhone uses iTunes to sync your photos from...any picture folder on a PC."
A final question, how do you get photos taken with your iPhone onto your PC? I imagine there isn't a clever automatic way of syncing them from the iPhone to your PC. Is there the facility to manually drag the files off the iPhone and onto your desktop?
See above. I believe Windows also see it as a USB camera, so it should automatically open it as a folder so you can drag the files to the folder of your choice. Since in IS a camera in Windows, I would guess other photo processing software in Windows would work too, just like any other camera.
But you really do WANT a Mac.

I bought the UnZipper, vV1.0.00 (4+) , couldn't download (it reported an error in the end), didn't install it but still, I was charged by you. Also I can't update "The Unarchiver", could I have any problems with my Mac? It's a one-year-old Mac Pro Laptop. Could you help me please?
Check under App Store/Purchases for your purchase. Install it from there again. ... Hopefully you did buy this from Apple's App Store, right!

I'm replacing a seven year old Dell that still works but is getting rather long in the tooth. I have CS4 web design. (For PC)
I have a Macbook Pro (so I'm familar with Mac OS)
I'm upgrading my computer to mainly use the Creative Cloud.
Are there any advantages (related to Creative Cloud) to buying a Mac or a PC?
I just don;t wan't to a Mac and then find that many features don;t work that are on the PC (or vice versa)
Or is one interface easier to use than another?
Thanks in advance for any help.It usually boils down to personal preference.
The software is, to all intents and purposes, the same in either operating system. There are minor differences between them, usually related to the hardware or the operating system. But if you can use the software in Windows, you'll be able to use it on a Mac too.
It's a matter of which environment you prefer: Windows or Mac. I use both daily since the Cloud allows you to install on Windows and/or Mac. -
Any advantage to having website hosted by a Mac OS X Server webhost?
With Leopard on it's way and the likes of iChat Server supporting relaying, is there any advantage to having our domain hosted with a Mac OS X Server webhost? For instance would we then be able to use iChat Server with our domain name?
I'm thinking about putting a little pressure on our webhost to provide Mac OS X services.I'm no expert on web hosting (or anything else to do with web services but I would have thought that the only way to take advantage of all the Leopard stuff would be to lease a whole machine to yourself (or get them to host your own machine). I cannot see how a hosting company could use a single server for multiple customers, thereby reduce hosting cost per customer.

Hi, i am having trouble with my mac mail account, i cannot send or receive any emails because of the server connection problems. Message says it could not be connected to SMTP server. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hello Sue,
I have an iPad 3, iPad Mini and iPhone 5S and they are all sluggish on capitalisation using shift keys. I hope that Apple will solve the problem because it is driving me crazy.
I find using a Microsoft Surface and Windows 8 phone, which I also have, work as well as all the ios devices before the ios 7 upgrade.
It has something to do with the length of time that you need to hold the shift key down. The shift key needs to be held longer than the letter key for the capitalisation to work. For some reason, this is a major change in the way we have learnt to touch type on computers. I am having to relearn how to type!

I have updated my iPhone 3Gs to the latest software in an attempt to iron out a problem with a new telephone network provider (Tmobile). I had backed up my phone before I did this. Now I have lost my music and apps. I can't sync the phone with my Mac, I can't re-download from iTunes as the phone says I don't have any music or apps available to re-download although it all shows up on my Mac. The music and app content cannot be restored when I try to restore the phone from the back up I madeon my Mac. Help!
Working on that now. I'm just getting frustrated that everytime I run updates for the phone I end up with tech problems that I have to spend time solving as opposed to updates that actually improve my usage. Now I will once again get to spend hours reloading my phone all for updates that didn't affect my usage in the first place.

my iphone's memory is near capacity from photo albums sync'ed with my mac and I haven't found out how to delete select albums to free up memory without wiping the iphone. Any suggestions??
You do the opposite of how you got them on your phone, you unsync the pics using iTunes.

I have the iPhone 5s. I synced it with my Mac and got all the old apps from my old phone. I was not able to update any of the apps on the old phone and they will not update on the new iPhone 5s either! What can I do?
Hey there rmflint,
It sounds like you are wanting to update the Apps that were synced over from your computer to your new iPhone 5s. If you are clicking Updates in the App Store in the bottom right corner, would you mind clarifying what happens when you are trying to update them?

If possible... you need to Upgrade to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x (which will Run iTunes Version 11)
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
Snow Leopard Tech Specs
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Other countries...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...
NOTE:
You should also consider more RAM... Get the Maximum you can for your Mac...
It is important to get the Correct and Matching RAM
See Here > OWC RAM > http://www.macsales.com
The above site also has videos on how to Install RAM should you need it... -
I have an optical mouse that came with my Mac Pro, the only thing plugged into the USB port on the keyboard. After a year of working normally, the trackball all of a sudden stopped scrolling down. It scrolls up just fine, but not down. Any thoughts?
Well
I tried all of the suggestions, sort of. I did not have alcohol wipes, but I did take alcohol and pour some ona white paper towel and then rolled the mouse touch ball aroound and that finally cleared up the problem. Just inverting it on paper did not do the reick, it needed some help with the alcohol. Of course the probelm is the debris that gets inside and it really needs to come out.
This is a huge problem for RIM devices users too. -
I have os 10.5.8 software on my mac and I need to update the software on my mac so I can update my iphone 4s, every time I try to update my mac with the 6.0 it says it doesn't need any updates, but my mac still has 10.5.8.... any help?? Please...
You must first buy Snow Leopard from Apple: 800-MY-APPLE (in the US)
Make sure your system meets Snow Leopard's requirements:
Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard" System Requirements
To install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
An Intel processor
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing
At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended)
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
At least 5 GB of disk space available, or 7 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
