Any audio filters to take out "hiss" noise?

I have recently done some quick interviews with a boom mic, and there happens to be a "hissing" sound that I wish to take out of the audio. I was just wondering if there is any audio filter or anything in Soundtrack (not Sountrack-Pro) that anyone would suggest me using to take this unwanted audio away. Thanks for any suggestions.
(I also have FCE 3.5HD)

I use SoundSoap2 which works pretty well. It's around 100.00. I think it can be used as a stand alone app. I use it as a plugin with audio apps. Audacity is a free audio editor that reportedly has a feature that is very good, altho I haven't tried it. You would have to clean up the file, render it and then import back into FCE. good luck.

  • Best Audio Filter to cut out traffic noise

I'm new to the audio filters.  Can anyone suggest one that might help reduce the background traffic noise in an outside interview?
    Susan

You can try using the noise reduction tools in SoundTrack Pro, but the best way to eliminate background noise in situations like this is to use a directional, dynamic mic when recording.
If you are unfamiliar with the noise reduction tools in STP, check these out: http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=noise+reduction+soundtrack+pr o&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest

  • Audio-out hiss/noise problems

There seem to be a problem with the audio output on the new MacBook Aluminium. There is A LOT of noise/hiss on the audio output, especially when using low-impendence headphones. The noise/hiss is the same regardless of volume. If you search the web, you will quickly find other discussion boards concerning this problem.
    To test for this:
    1. Find a pair of headphones.
    2. Check their impendence.
*Be sure to play some sort of audio in order to activate the audio card. If you just plug your headphones in, there will not be any noise/hiss because the audio is disabled. Some report that after 20 seconds of no audio, the audio will deactivate again.
This does not seem to occur on high-impendence headphones or stereos.
I think it is important to inform Apple about this problem and hope for some sort of fix. If it could be fixed with a firmware update it would be great!
I am not aware if the new 15-inch MacBook Aluminium is also affected by this problem.
A workaround for this problem is to BUY a volume control you place between the audio output and the headphones. However, I do not think this ought to be necessary on a $1,299 computer.

I have a ground loop isolator. It still hums.
I am now trying using the digital out port, connecting in to my optical digital in on my stereo receiver. That works better. However, the thing about that which dives me nuts is there is no way to control the sound from the mac without going into system preferences, sound, and using that panel. Even just to change the volumn. This is very clumsy. Any ideas of a way around that?

  • How do i take out background noise?

Hi I need help, I am editing a audio of a lecture where in the background a little baby is crying and also a phone is ringing... at one point there is an automated msg from the tele conference pops up while the speaer is speaking.... all of these happens while the speaker is speaking. Is there a way for me to remove these noises ? Note i have tried noise reduction but that is only for hiss and hums. Thanks for the time and patience

The only way to be able to reduce some of these, but probably not all, is to use the Spectral view. But you have to practise using this view in order to be able to identify the sounds you need to remove before you can select and delete/attenuate them or use the Healing brush to paint them out.

  • Hissing noise from the bottom speakers after any sound

Like the title i recived my new iphone 5 yesterday and I find suddenly this problem. After any sounds like lock or any music or something else, a hissing noise start for 5-7 seconds. Is that a hardware problem?
    Thanks

    hi sailor,
contacted apple phone support, unfortunately apple care number is not free in australia.
first time it took 17min and was not able to contact a technician coz credits in my mobile ran out.
second time it took 25min. i explained all the issues
told them i reset the pram, smc and reinstalled the OS and still i hear the hissing noise.
they replied that speakers may make a hissing noise if the macbook is on battery, but the noise should be very low and it should not be audible, if the noise is audible and loud, they suspect its a hardware failure, i got my case id and will be taking it to the nearest service center here, for them to have a look.
so if u have a macbook that is under warranty dont hesitate to contact them. i guess even refurbished macbooks bought in online store also have a 1yr warranty.

  • Apple Audio Filters in Final Cut Pro

I'm posting this question here because I didn't receive any responses in the Final Cut Pro message area, and I thought given the nature of the questions, audiofiles that read this area might have an answer.
In Final Cut Pro there are two folders of audio filters, one called APPLE and the other FINAL CUT PRO.
I fully realize none of these filters have the power of programs like SOUNDTRACK PRO.
However, I'm in a situation where I need to document what the filters do. I've already found all the material I need for the FINAL CUT PRO filters. However, I can't find any information anywhere on the APPLE category of filters.
    My questions:
#1 - Does anybody know why the APPLE audio filters are seperated out from the Final Cut Pro filters? How are they different generally?
#2 - Does anybody know where I can find documentation on what each of the APPLE category of audio filters do? I can't find it in the Final Cut Pro Manuals or Diane Weyland books. I found some Ken Stone tutorials on line, but they don't address the APPLE filters.
#3 - And many of the APPLE audio filters seem to be near duplicates in the Final Cut Pro audio filters, so what's the point in having two versions?
Any info at all or a direction to look would be appreciated.
    Thanks so much.

As of Leopard I was surprised to find that the Apple system plug-ins, and those that are supplied with the FCP suite are not AU plug-ins in the old sense of what a plug-in used to be. They no longer exist as a file anywhere in the system as they used to. Audio Unit plug ins formerly used to exist in Library/Audio/Plug ins/Components - now they are build into the Leopard operating system.
Any third party plug-in you purchase will still be installed in the "old" way.
Sorry, I can't remember where that documentation exists. Probably in the developer docs somewhere.

  • Ichat loud hissing noise

I was chatting this evening on a latest version MacBook with another user who has the same setup. I was in Barrie and the other person in Toronto. Both of us were complaining about a terrible hissing sound during the chat. I have never had a problem with a sound like this when playing music or watching a clip from the net on the MacBook. Any suggestions why this loud screeching hissing noise exists and how to get rid of it?

I'm experiencing the exact same problem (though I'm not hearing a hissing, more like, as my brother-in-law described it, the sound of someone breaking wine glasses continually). I tried the iChat for this first time this evening with my brother-in-law, sister and their daughter, and we were getting a pretty horrible feedback noise. While it may work as a solution, using external speakers and/or microphones would seem to be counter to the whole idea of using a laptop. It shouldn't be necessary to lug such things around with you just to get good sound quality in the iChat. Headphones (another possible solution I read about) are impractical if you're having a conversation with more than one person at the other end.
I'll check out the "Volume" settings in System Preferences and see if that helps things, however.
    Now, the video was great!

  • Audio Filters for filtering out noise

Hi all! I'm fresh on FCE and doing pretty well thanks to these forums. I've found answers to most of my issues except this one. I have a video clip with a soft spoken person and air conditioning background noise. I've tried numerous filters and settings, but, I have NO experience with audio settings. Where would you suggest I start as far as a filter to use, and what settings to tweak? I was also going to use the "Gain" filter to boost her volume after I filter out the A/C. Thanks!!!!

    Try Effects>Audio Filters>3 Band Equalizer.
    This tutorial may assist:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/basic_audio_filtertutoria.html
A third party appliczatin like Sound Soap could be a better solution than FCE filters. Try a trial on your clip.

  • Crackling and hissing noises in background of podcast audio

I've just recorded the audio for a podcast (two-person interview), and as I've listened back I've found an annoying crackling noise in the background at a few points. Any ideas about how to remove (or at least minimise) it? Also, at some points there is a kind of hissing noise in the background (almost like the distant sound of crickets!) - any tips on minimising or removing that?

Thanks for the reminder Richard and yes, I had done that via the "common" folder and cleaned out all the cache in the various folders. The result was negative, still had the issue.
So, I decided to move all audio (about 16 mins) on track 1 down to track 2, leaving track 1 completely empty of audio. Then I muted track 1.
The issue was happening at around 4:20secs into the audio. Interestingly, when testing Pr crashed when the playhead reached 4:20secs, right at the spot that I was getting the old "deleted" audio in the background with a lot of crackle. I restarted my Mac completely and repeated the process of moving all audio to track 2 etc etc... and once again Pr crashed at 4:20secs.
    What to do?
I copied the piece of audio giving me issues from track 2 and pasted it into track 1. I first pasted it away from the problem area (4:20secs) and there was no "old deleted audio in the background with a lot of crackle" to be heard. :-) So I moved this piece of audio and placed it right above the 4:20secs problem area and reduced the audio volume to -infinity. I also muted track 1 again.
Then I played the entire video... and, Pr didn't crash and the "old deleted audio in the background with a lot of crackle" was gone. Gone kinda, because this is a work around and the issue is still there but suppressed for now. I have no idea why it happened and a more technical solution is totally welcome.
What do you think about the above Richard? Hope it made sense? Felt like it took 25 years to sort this out...

  • HT1596 macbook Pro 15" mountain lion does't have any Audio Line In/Out.

i'm macbook Pro Retina display 15" user. i realised that this macbook does't have any Audio Line In/Out. I really need this to record audio direct from instrument to GarageBand. Any other way to do this?

Maybe the music pros will pop in soon (late night GarageBand sessions and all). From what I've read, most of the musical types around here use some sort of Firewire devices for audio in/out so you'd at the least need a Thunderbolt>Firewire adapter.
You might want to take your question to the GarageBand forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/garageband - while a number of you musical types use MBPs, I would bet that you'd get more answers to your query in that forum.
    Good luck,

    no

iCloud only give so much space for free storage, then if you exceed the limit of 5gb you have to pay for additional storage.

This shouldn't happen. Take it back since it's new.

  • Ipad 2 with version 8.1.3;  update to take out bugs etc and now every time I click on an app it asked for my itunes id before I can get it to open;  any help would be appreciated

I did the update to take out bugs etc;  now when I try to open an app, it asks for my Itunes ID before it will open;  this is a pain;  has anyone else had this problem or knows how to correct this,  assistance gratefully appreciated, thanks

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has never been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • I was working on a project a few days ago and now I'm not getting any audio or visuals out of it. In the project file the screen went grey. Not sure how to fix this. I'm new to iMovie, but the program seems easy to use and my Mac is new. Any help?

I used to use Movie Maker and it would be able to handle lots of file uploads and big projects. I figure iMovie can do the same since it's newer and it's on my iMac. I was working on a project for a few months, it was working fine up until about a few days ago when the project file just stopped working. Not getting any audio or visuals and the screen went grey. I hope to not lose the project file as I've spent a lot of time on it. The project will still show up in iMovie, but it won't play. Other project files will, but this one won't for some reason. It's my first time using this program and I assumed it would be fine, but now it's causing me big problems. Anyone else run into a similar problem?

But it is I jsut can sync, back up files, or anything becuase its stuck at this screene and wont do execute when i click either of those button
