Any basic differences between AT&T and Verizon, & other questions

I am thinking of buying an iPad mini with retina display (32gb). This would most likely be the only iPad I would ever own. I would use it mostly at the house with wifi, but would like to have one with cellular for when we travel in the US and Canada, and for when the electricity goes out. We currently live in a location where both AT&T and Verizon are viable options, but sometime in the next year we hope to move. The state is rural and mountainous, so as we drive around, my spouse's iPhone (with an AT&T plan) often loses service, but so does my Jitterbug phone, which is not tied to any one carrier (as far as I know). A phone can get a signal in one locaton, but then lose it a few feet down the road. So, there is no way I can choose between AT&T or Verizon based on coverage because both are options right now and there is no way to predict which one(s), if any, might provide service to wherever we end up moving to. Therefore, I'm wondering if there are any basic differences between AT&T and Verizon (or any other of the possible carriers) in what they offer or how they work or what they charge and so on that can help me decide which one to choose since it is my understanding that once I pick one of them for an iPad, that decision can never be changed without purchasing a new device. (e.g., I had read somewhere that Verizon does not allow for voice and data at the same time, but since an iPad is not a phone, is that even an issue?) Also, will the iPad work if there is only regular 4G or 3G service? And will a cellular iPad work without signing up for a data plan since I expect to start with only wifi and then add a data plan later? Thank you.

Alfred DeRose, Thank you for answering the second and third questions. Judging by what you wrote, I am assuming there are no differences between what AT&T and Verizon offer that affects iPads, other than looking at coverage area and the cost of "pay as you go" plans. And, as noted, coverage is not something I can base a decision on at this time. So, I either flip a coin to choose between AT&T and Verizon and hope the result is the right one after we move to wherever we end up finding a place to live, or I continue to wait for another year or more until we actually find a new house before I buy an iPad (or maybe a Kindle Fire HDX 8.9"to save money, but I think I've probably settled on an iPad mini retina 7.9" despite its smaller screen). That does not move me along the decision-making process at all, but it is what it is.
Greatcall has not answered my question about what carrier(s) the Jitterbug Plus phone uses. If, in fact, it uses just the Verizon network, I will try to pay better attention to any possible differences in service areas between that phone and my spouse's iPhone as we travel around the state to see if that helps at all. But coverage is so location specific here that I don't think it will.

  • What is the basic difference between Hyperion Planning and HFM

    Hi GURU'S,
what is the basic difference between Hyperion Planning and HFM and when do we choose them.

On a high level the difference is this:
    1. HFM is best for global collection (collecting data from scattered entities), group consolidation and for easily structuring financial reporting (mainly consisting of financial data)
    2. Planning is best for modeling your business, starting from a demand forecast and arriving to capacity planning and finally to financial statements, by utilizing business drivers (non-financial data like volumes, prices, productivity rates etc)
Of course, differences may be analyzed at several levels down to technical, but the discussion may turn out to be too long, yet adding little value to the question: "when do we choose the one over the other". Bear in mind that your requirements may turn out that you need both.

  • Is there any actual difference between Release, Debug and Debug Local configurations in SSRS project?

Is there any actual difference between Release, Debug and Debug Local configurations in SSRS project?
For example in VC++ Debug build would have all optimization turned off (by default) and included additional Debug information in executable.
Since there is no executable produced for SSRS - is there any actual difference between configurations? Or are they only for the purpose of deploying to different destination servers?

    Hi JoeSchmoe115,
The Project Configuration and Configuration Manager is a feature supported by Visual Studio, on which Business Intelligence Development Studio or SQL Server Data Tools is based. We can use Configuration Manager to create and manage sets of project properties
in project configurations. You are right that the project configurations is only for deployment purpose in a Report Server project.

  • Are there any technical Differences between stanard R3 and ISU

    Hello everyone,
I have recently been speaking to a client who is running ISU.  They are asking for assistance with thier landscape from a technical perspective (BASIS and DB).  i.e. monitoring db growth, reorgs, etc.
Now, I have been working in BASIS for over 10 years now, and am very comfortable with the above rols.  My question however is -  are there any "technical" differences between the standard SAP system, and ISU?  or are the differences mainly seen on the functional side?
Thank you very much for any insight any of you can provide.
    Kind regards
    Richard Rog

    Hi Richard,
I have been a Basis administrator for IS-U/CCS systems for 7 years.  The points Juris made are correct.
There are no new transactions or procedures for maintaining and monitoring an ISU system.  ISU "sits" on top of R/3.  The main ISU transaction for customer contact CIC0 has an HTML component that needs an ITS server.  In a 4.6C system you will need to maintain an external ITS.  In ECC 6.0 you will have an integrated ITS.  The main difference from a Basis perspective is support pack application.
In 4.6C ISU is an add-in installed in SAINT.  There are conflict resolution support packages (CRT's) that are installed at the same time the SAP_APPL support packages are applied.  In fact SPAM recognizes the ISU add-in and won't let you upgrade APPL (and sometimes Basis) support packs without the CRT's.
In ECC 6.0 IS-U isn't an add-in any more and has it's own support packs in module IS-UT.  IS-U must be turned on though during an installation or upgrade.  This is done in SPRO with "Activate Business Funcitons".

  • Difference between AT&T and Verizon iPad 4G

Is there anything fundamentally different in terms of hardware between the AT&T and Verizon iPad? I'm aware that once you choose one you're unable to use the other, but is that a software configuration or a hardware restriction?
The iPhone differed in that the AT&T was a GSM model while the Verizon was a CDMA model. The CDMA model cannot be used internationally. (Is this conceptually similar to the iPad differences?) Since I'm not a US citizen and want to be able to use the new iPad in my own country's 4G network, I would like to know whether I'm confined to the  option of buying an AT&T iPad to ensure that the 4G LTE connectivity works at home too.
Apple seems to make it clear that each iPad is capable of connecting to any network up to 4G LTE... but is more ambiguous about the differences between the AT&T and Verizon versions. I would like to seek some clarification before commiting to buying an iPad that wouldnt work on international 4G networks!

This is the first iPad to offer both CDMA and GSM on Verizon.  The following is based on my experience with Verizon's global Blackberries (CDMA/GSM) and my AT&T iPad (GSM).
If you travel internationally infrequently and for short periods of time (i.e., the annual two week vacation), you  probably won't bother to go through the hassle of buying and swapping out the SIM for a country specific card.  For short term use, the simple solution is either of the international roaming plans offered by AT&T and Verizon.  The AT&T international rates are a little lower than Verizon's but I'd recommend Verizon if you have better coverage domestically with Verizon.
If you travel frequently and are likely to  swap out the SIM, AT&T is your better bet. The extra LTE band is a plus.  More importantly, their customer service folks have much more experience handling questions about GSM and international roaming.  Verizon's business is mostly domestic and CDMA. They've offered a handful of phones with dual CDMA/GSM, but this new iPad will be their first major foray into GSM and international roaming.
As for CDMA coverage, that's useless in most of the world - except China.  But, with CDMA, you're stuck with the Verizon international roaming rates unless you want to go through the hassle of opening a data account directly with China Mobile.  China Mobile is Verizon's roaming partner in China, so either way, you're stuck with their funky version of 3G unless you switch to GSM and get a China Unicom sim (and you're back to AT& T because they have the experience with GSM).

  • Is there any architectural difference between CSC-SSM and AIP-SSM modules

    Hello security gurus!
I'm wondering if there's any chance to make Content security module (CSC-SSM) work as IPS (AIP-SSM). It seems to me they are absolutely identical in terms of hardware. Is there any chance to make CSC-SSM boot with the flash from AIP-SSM and have the ASA recognize it as an IPS module ?
    Eugene

    Zheka,
This is not recommended and you will loose support, these are different devices designed for different purposes, you will also have issues with the license, I have seen it one once, and the customer did it by mistake, the module eventually crashed and we had to add the proper image.

  • Is there any cosmetic difference between iphone 4 and 4s ?

can anyone tell me how if i am only looking at them cosmetically if there is an obvious difference ??

The volume buttons are slightly offset and the breaks in the aluminum band around the phone are slightly different. That's pretty much it. I'd have to look at them side by side, but there may be a slight visible difference in the camera lense as well.

  • Difference between business service and business system in SLD

    hi all,
i m very new to XI. can anybody tell me that what is the basic difference between Business Service and Business Systems?
Is it necessary to use them? and if yes then when to use what?
    Thanx.
    Regards,
    Kunjal......

    Hi Kunjal,
In SAP XI every system in your landscape with which you are interfacing is defined as Service.
The service can be your Business service or Business system.
Generally SAP systems are referred to Business system and you define them in the SLD before you import them.
The Business service is a logical name referring to any system in your landscape.
To communicate with any third party application you need to create communication channels which are associated to your service.

  • Difference between Olant sale and Depot sale

What is the basic difference between plant sale and depot sale? is there any difference with respect to their confighration part?

    Hi !
With regards to your query, as per the business requirements of a company a company can have depots and plants for retail sales , and sales directly to customers from manufacturing plants.
For this there can be different codes for depots locations and plants and different storage locations respectively.
Also pricing may vary both for raw materials and FG, since manufacturing might be carried out under a contract agreement, scheduling agreement etc and retail sales may be at standard market rates.
Thus the pricing procedures would vary.
The norms for customer account groups and credit exposure would also vary.
    Plz reward points if helpful.

  • Difference Between version 8 and cs3/4 ?

Hi I have dreamweaver 8 and I use it for all my tasks related to website development.
I just wanted to know if there is any significant difference between version 8 and cs3/4 ?
    Suggestions appreciated.

I don't think any of those you have listed are major additions to my own personal workflow in my opinion David.
Nice add-ons but it's not like 'I really need this'.
I'd like a better computer each and every year but I can still do all I need with the one I have. Of course you never want to go back once you upgrade but its not as if you can't do what is needed with an older version.
Improved css rendering? I struggle to find an improvement apart from maybe overflow:hidden; I guess it may also be down to the way you write the css. I've never really struggled with css rendering from version MX onwards, others have.
Built in css layouts? I wouldn't touch those with a barge pole personally. They can remain in the domain of the inexperienced and when they come to alter them they are so complicated they won't have a clue where to start.
Spry widgets? Again overcomplicated and used mainly by inexperienced users.
Live view/live code? Personally have no use for it.
None of those you listed would effect my workflow. But as I said it's best to download a trial and take it for a spin.
DW in my opinion doesn't have much more in the way of development to offer apart from incorporating elements which are non-essential. Its a bit like the progress of all their software; they struggle with each new release to find anything wortwhile to include.

  • Difference between extent management and segment management

    Blocks --> Extent --> Segment
Oracle block(also known as page) being the granular level where the data is stored. Extent is a collection of blocks.
When you specify extent management, you mean where the allocation/de-allocation of extents(group of blocks) will be managed (either in dictionary or using bitmaps).
When you specify segment space management, you mean that how the space inside a block will be managed. Extent management doesn't control space distribution inside block.

  • Basic differences between G2 and G3

hey, is there a breakdown anywhere of the basic differences between G2 and G3?
i've tried looking but everything i've read seems to single out the podcast features of g3 which to be honest, don't really do much for me, since i would be using it mostly for music.
Are there substantial differences aside from the podcast features that would justify the upgrade? and if so, any idea where i can read about them?
    thanks in advance.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

there also some more differences as compare to gb2 is the ability to do music composition for your edited imovies and one more thing if you change your track to sound efxs you can drag audio files into your onscreen keyboard or your musical typing on your assign key to do music composition which gb2 dont provide last time.

  • Is there any difference between an unlocked and sim free iPhone?

Is there any difference between an unlocked and sim free iPhone?

I think in the context you're using, they are pretty much the same thing. The only carrier on the planet as of this writing with the CDMA iPhone, which does not use SIM cards AT ALL, is Verizon in the U.S.
There is a difference between an unlocked iPhone and an iPhone sold without a contract, but still locked to a carrier.
This list details all of the currently supported iPhone carriers. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937
Some carriers sell phones that are NOT carrier locked (i.e. SIM FREE). Some sell locked phones, but offer unlocking services for their subscribers. In SOME countries, unlocked phones can be purchased directly from Apple. Apple also sells locked phones, that do not require a term commitment with the carrier at what is usually the same price as an unlocked phone.
