Any blog templates safe in non-Safari browsers? Blog Summary Widget?

I've tried "Doodle" and "Darkroom" and in both cases, the blog summary page (first page) does not work in both Internet Explorer (Mac) and Firefox (Mac). In both, the Blog Summary Widget does not work. The pictures and text are missing and is replaced with text that says "Blog Summary Widget."
For the test, I did nothing to change or edit the templates. I just published them them as is. They look great in Safari, but no go in Firefox 1.0.2 and IE 5.2.3. I know these are probably not the most current versions of either, but I can guarantee that they're more recent than what my grandma has and she's more typical of my web audience I'm trying to do a family blog. I figured iWeb has cooler templates than Blogger.com and it would be easy since it's iLife. Too bad the blog page probably won't work on most computers' browsers. I don't have a Windows machine to test it on, but I'm guessing that they will be even more unforgiving. Is anyone else having better luck?
The only other factor is that I'm not using a .Mac account. I can't imagine that this could be the issue, but if it is, then that is really, really evil. It's bad enough that Apple punishes you for not having a .Mac account by making you FTP your entire site every time you make a change instead of incrementally (this is a separate thread topic).

Hello
I've settled on a modified Modern weblog template (http://www.kilayko.com) and it has worked well in the following browser/OS combinations:
Camino 1.5/Mac OS X
Safari 2/Mac OS X
Mobile Safari/iPhone
IE 6 and 7/Windows XP
Firefox 2/Windows XP
The only combination that seems to give me (a little) trouble is:
Opera/Wii
It seems to ignore the thumbnail images on both the main weblog and archive pages but the area is still clickable.
I know that these are somewhat newer versions than what you are targeting but it may point to a limitation in the JavaScript implementations in the older browser versions. It appears that many of the template elements make use of JavaScript for functionality.
I should note that I am also using .Mac - although I don't think that should make a difference for the rendering.

  • Non-safari browsers on osx access to XI

We have large number of researchers on Macs needing access to BO XI Rel 3 ( 12.1.0 ) with Tomcat as the server.
We need them to be able to get via SSO however any browser used (Firefox, Opera, Safari) gets a 401 (authorization error).  This did not happen when we were using IIS as the server.  We upgraded in order to take advantage of certain features but got bit by this.
    We've altered Firefox's parameters
      network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris
      network.negotiate-auth.delegation-uris
      network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris
    which didn't do anything.
An official support ticket yielded "We don't support non-IE browsers".
This is probably an OS X setup and postings in other areas suggest this can be done but there are no directions.
Given SAP / Bus Obj push into healthcare / biotech it seems that this has to have happened and been dealt with.
    Anyone have any ideas ?
    danke

We do certainly support firefox and usually setting up SSO with the parameters you specified will work. The other browsers I'm not so sure. BO has absolutely no control here. Maybe understanding what SSO actually is will help....
So when SSO is configured on BO(I'm assuming true SSO such as kerberos or NTLM). The website (virtual directory) will no longer allow anonymous access and will present a 401 (challenge to the browser). The trick you have to find out is if your browser supports spnego/NTLM and how to configure it. Typically on a windows server with IE the AD user logs in with their credentials. The browser hits the site and receives the 401 (like your error). The browser then checks its rules to see if it is allowed to send the user logged in credentials. If the rules permit (a common reason would be for intranet sites where IE SSO is enabled by default) then the browser will negotiate either NTLMSSP or spnego and the AD user will be authorized to access BO based on their mapped AD account permissions.
Now I'm not sure you OS is supported, do you login to it with AD? Have you found steps for setting up spnego or NTLM SSP. As all of these components AD, the browsers, the OS are outside of our products there is very little our support engineers can do when it doesn't work other than goggling possible solutions. We do have documented solutions for IE and firefox on windows (which I have heard will work for firefox on Mac as well).

  • Images in non-Safari browsers not full color

I find that on some web sites, Facebook in particular, the JPEG images are washed-out. In Safari all images display correctly. In Google Chrome, Firefox, and Opera they are washed-out. If I right-click the image and save it, it will display correctly in Preview. I think this behavior began after an OS X update months ago. I took some screen captures today to illustrate the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Using OS X 10.9.5 on a 2012-vintage Mac mini with a calibrated, Samsung external monitor (S23C350: Resolution: 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz (1080p); Pixel Depth:    32-Bit Color (ARGB8888))
    Cheers,
    Paul

Today, 2014-10-09, I see all the browsers display images correctly. How odd. I don't see any obvious updates to system software. Safari last updated to v7.1 on September 20, before my post. In any case, this problem is (magically) solved.
    Paul
P.S. I wonder where my screen captures went. The did include a picture of Jack Ma from a news site. Kind of hard to illustrate the problem if they are auto-removed somehow.

  • Still no support for iOS devices or non-Safari browsers

Been a while now and still the new format doesn't support iOS devices - no formatting bar or ability to edit post.  Still, alternative browsers, e.g. iCab and Atomic, have different issues like format bar does appear but keyboard doesn't.
Should we be expecting an update sometime soon?

I cant find it now, but i saw a post by an apple corp poster saying that this was done purposefully to ensure a "solid" release, or something like that. Basically, iOS devices arent considered a significant user base to be worried about giving VERY limited functionality to.
They basically said that it would be developed into future updates, but with no timelines. Sounded to me like it would be a VERY long time before we get anything above basic text editor abilities. No wait a second, basic text editors can do BOLD! We cant even do that.

  • OWA Calendar not showing month view in non-IE browsers

I've got a user who can't see the Month view on his OWA calendar. He's the only user complaining - Month view loads fine on my Exchange account across all browsers and operating systems.
I can see the Month view on his account when I log in with IE, but not with any other browser, Windows and Mac.
Any ideas? I'm at a total loss here, I've been in and deleted recurring appointments, but nothing else looks out of the ordinary. Everything else works, it just won't load the month view in non-IE browsers and he's the only one affected.
    Any clues appreciated, thank you!

    Hi,
The Microsoft OWA web interface has two versions: OWA Premium and OWA Light. OWA Premium which can achieve calendar month view is only accessible when using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser.
If you’re using any other browser, we can use OWA Light. In light version, the OWA feature is not rich like OWA Premium. As for Calendar view, there is only daily view in OWA light.
About Calendar view in third-party browser, please contact the third-party browser support for more helps.

  • More than one blog template?

I have two blogs on the site I'm developing, and I'd like to use different templates on each of them. (One is for News, and the other for Tips 'n Tricks.)
It seems that all blogs have one template. Is that true? Is it possible to use blog-specific tags on a non-blog template? And if there can be only one, where do I submit a Feature Request?
    Thanks!

  • Office Integration and non-MS browsers

I have an 'issue' with Office Integration and non-MS browsers with our SharePoint 2013 on-prem enviroment (using SSO via ADFS).
Background: our internal client wants to move to SharePoint sites for collaboration with external partners.  One of the selling points they're wanting to make to justify the move from their current
external collaboration site is Office integration - specifically the ability to open/edit/save documents by clicking on the document in SharePoint, having it open in Office (PC/client) for editing.  Note they are wanting full integration with the client
version of Office - not OWA.  The other requirement is that this work with both Firefox and Chrome.
Issue: Office integration works fine using Internet Explorer.  When a user click on a document the document opens in Office and can be edited directly in the browser without any additional prompts.
But when clicking on a document via Firefox or Chrome the SSO login form pops-up when Office starts.  Once the user enters their credentials they can work with the documents as desired.  But our client does not want this second prompt.
    Question:
Is there a way to configure SharePoint so that Firefox or Chrome open up documents for editing without a second logon prompt?  I'm assuming not based on my research on how these browsers handle
cookies differently than IE.   Can someone confirm?
Is there a dev solution to this?  Note that because the users will be partners (non-employees) we are trying to avoid using a solution that would involve installing custom software on their pc's
    (such as browser extensions).

Unfortunately you are looking at a plugin or having the users modify their browsers:

  • Applications are getting hanged up in Safari browsers

    Hi,
Ours is an AJAX based application which is working in almost all the browsers and their respective versions. Of late we have been observing that our application is getting hanged up in the Safari browsers, specially in the latest versions of it. The content that we are displaying mainly contains simple HTML attributes along with respective events set for them.
However once the AJAX call is completed and after displaying the page in the browser, none of the user's events is recognized by the browser for eg: the radio buttons' clicks, drop down selections and the corresponding Javascript functionality is not working, which further leading to flow breakage in our application.
Could you please throw some light on when we come across these kind of issues and how best we can resolve them?

is any increment in the speed of rendering the page in Safari browsers during the latest versions launch?
Yes. Safari 5 introduced DNS Prefetching: Safari looks up the addresses of links on webpages and can load those pages faster.
In Safari 5 this could sometimes overwhelm the router and stall the page opening.
This was fixed in Safari 5.0.2.

There is enhancement filed about this issue that you are experiencing. Also, there are a new set of PL/SQL API documentation that is automatically generated and we are checking to see if those have the same issue.

  • Customizing Blog Templates

    Hi!
I need to customize a blog template, to keep branding
    cosistent with my client's website.
The one I'm looking at LifeType, with smartie templates, is
too complicated for me. I just don't get it...
Has anyone found an easier way to customize blog templates,
or a blog platform that's easy to customize?
    Thanks very much,

Ive used Wordpress and managed to customise the template
    pretty
extensively - im not a programmer by any stretch of the
    imagination, cant
even write javascript - although it takes quite a bit of time
    and
concentration to work out the nuts and bolts of just whats
    what.
Once you do however, it can be pretty straightforward from
    there. Its php
files, and CSS, but you dont have to know php, as long as you
    just
understand what it looks like. Most of the customising can be
    done in the
    CSS.
From memory, I think all the template files are in the one
    place.

  • Blog template

    Gentlefolk;
Any suggestions for finding a blog template?
What I am looking for is pretty simple, your basic text display for the blogged content, and the ability to post responses.
The design part is no problem, but hooking into a DB would be a little trickier, and that is what I hope would be automated. Or, is there a way around this?
I am not wedded to any technology here, but it will reside within a Learning Management System that is SCORM-compliant (learn.com, learncenter, if that assists in the responses.)
    Don't need tracking functionality.
    Thanks for any ideas.
    Don

OK, I got it. For some reason a blank text box was still active. Had to delete it.

  • Blog Template won't work right

Having trouble getting BC Blog Template to work.
Currently only shows the Blog Name - but no post after.
Clicking on Post Title on Blog Page works without a template but how to get it to show the post inside the template?
    Its a full page layout DW template with the {tag_pagecontent}
    Blog Page:
    http://www.pjspeech-hearing.com/blog_pjspeech.html
    Post in template:
    http://www.pjspeech-hearing.com/port-jefferson-speech-hearing-blog/november-11-2013-hearin g-clinic-event

    Liam,
I think I figured out something
Is this correct? - to use the url in blog details: http://www.pjspeech-hearing.com/port-jefferson-speech-hearing-blog
for blog link in my "non-dynamic" menu instead of a html page like you suggested.
    Is this correct proceedure?
But if you look at my blog using template it only shows the BLOG TITLE and not the whole blog post
Blog not using template shows everything but just plain white background.
    Thanks
    Will

  • Safari 7 (mavericks) vs google chrome any recomendations ? it seems like safari has smoother scrolling

Safari 7 (mavericks) vs google chrome any recomendations ? it seems like safari has smoother scrolling

Both. Always good to have two browsers installed. If one browser isn't functioning as it should, you have the other browser installed to use for troubleshooting.
I use both. I don't see any difference in scrolling.

  • Is it safe to download safari extensions that stop tracking you?

I recently jumped from Windows to my first Mac Book pro Retina! I was a Windows (PC) user for ages. Now there is so much you have to do to protect your interests on a PC, (Spyware,Antivirus,etc..) I called Apple support and told me I do not need Antivirus, or any of the latter. Now Safari has these extensions (Ad-Aware, DoNotTrackMe, & AVG do not track.) Are any of these good? Or do I even need these programs? When I spoke to Apple support, they told me Antivirus considerably slows down the unit, and not to do it. So I'm wondering, then what protection do I need on my new MBP? Help please.

if you were asking about ad aware - do not track me - avg - it will only slow down your browser.
safari has it's own security settings - first - take the checkmark off enable java - then take the checkmark off open safe files after downloading - last put a checkmark on ask websites not to track me.
or - use safari in private browsing mode
