Any chance of iMac G5 first generation repair program be active again?

Any possibility that the iMac G5 first generation repair program will be active again?
I had no idea about this program since I was away overseas for few years and by the time
I return in 2009 and used my iMac G5 again, it started to have problems with display and then later the power supply I think?
Now I have just left the iMac G5 alone and let it sit on my desk like a display only and unable to use it thinking to fix it will be way too expensive.
Then today decided to check online to see if there are other solutions other than throwing it away as a garbage,
I found there was actually an extended program and I missed it!!
Because of this encounter I disliked using apple and reluctant to buy any more of apple products due to many limitations and this
extremly expensive iMac G5 I bought in 2005 and barely used it.
Hopfully there are other solutions to this old iMac G5 I have that I cannot use any more along with the expensive Final Cut Pro ver 4.5
studio suite I bought that only works with it.

There is no chance the repair extension progrm will be renewed, but call Customer Support and explain the situation. You might get lucky and find someone who's having a very good day --  or not -- who will OK the repairs. Be polite; don't start by ranting about how you won't buy any more Macs.
But I wouldn't bet the ranch on it. The program ended three years ago, in the fall of '08, I believe. If you had reported the problem in '09 when it started, you might have had a much better chance.
Perhaps one needed to have registered the computer -- I don't know --- but I don't believe any of the affected owners, registered or not, were notified by Apple of the program. You can try making the point that you were never notified of the program's existence and therefore had no way of taking advantage of it.
The iMac G5 is by now a "vintage" Mac, and I don't even think the Apple Stores will work on it. Maybe an AASP will, but the parts they get for it from Apple, if any are still availble, may be very dicey, anyway.
There are a few places that may still work on these for far less than Apple or an AASP.

  • Is there any way to restore my first generation iPod touch?

I recently reset my first generation iPod touch. I completely wiped it. My friend told me that I couldn’t restore it since iTunes is on version ten and the first gen iPod touches don’t support anything past update 1.3. Does anyone know of where I can go to download really early versions of iTunes?
If yes, thank you so much! If not, thank you anyways!

Ah, it worked! Turns out my usb port on my laptop doesn't work.. Thank you so much!! <3

  • My IMAC G5 First Generation WONT SLEEP by itself

I have more than a year with this amazing machine. About a month ago it only will sleep manually, even when my external HD is off, no printer conected and IDISK not sync. Any help ? I search in the forums but most common trouble seems to be the opposite. Tks in advanced.

    iLee,
What you described is for the later iMac models, not the Rev A, which Carlos said he has---and that process you just mentioned is not for resetting the PRAM, but the SMU.
Here is how to reset the PRAM from Apple's support pages:
This document explains how to reset the parameter random access memory (PRAM) and nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM) on Macintosh computers.
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    1) Shut down the computer.
    2) Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3) Turn on the computer.
    4) Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5) Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6) Release the keys.
Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.

  • IMac Intel first generation finds no wireless signal

I recently had Apple replace the hard drive in my 2 year old Intel based iMac. I then restored all my lost data (since it was a new hard drive) using Time Machine. Everything works great, but my computer no longer recognizes ANY wireless signals. My work laptop and my iPhone find both my wireless router and a number of my neighbors'.
Airport is turned on and everything looks to be the way it should be in terms of system settings.
Is it possible they forgot to reconnect the antenna to my wireless card when they replaced the hard drive? (I have no knowledge of what the interior of my iMac looks like so I don't know if they are located close together.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Unfortunately it was a blinding flash of the obvious that fixed my issue...
Simply rebooting the iMac brought it back to life.
    Duh.
I assumed that since Apple usually forces reboots after updates if they are required that this didn't require one, apparently it did.

  • Is there any chance to bring vsl first edition legato instruments to EXS?

I try to convert my old Gigasampler Library with VSL First Edition (legato) sounds to EXS Sampler. EXS is converting the sounds into the wav format but all sounds are confused and it is sounding not usable.
Is there anyone who have an idea to solve my problem?

    Hi Brian
I had the same exact thing happen to me - except it was my wireless keyboard that disabled my ipad.  I also have documents on Pages that I did not want t to lose.  This worked for me!  Found it on another help site....I was able reactivate my ipad - nothing lost - all is good!
    1. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    2. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    3. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    4. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    5. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    6. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    7. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

  • Imac G5 first generation Harddisk

    Hello,
I need to replace the harddisk as it is crashed. The orginal HD was 200GB but I would like to upgrade this does anyone know what the maximum is that the Imac can handle and what type of HD needs to go in ?
    Thanks
    Robert

You can put in as large a drive as you like, providing that it is a 3.5" SATA drive. I have heard of people putting in 750GB rives and having no problems.Good places to get drives are macsales.com or newegg.com.

  • First generation to 3 g

i have a first generation iphone and want to upgrade to iphone 3 g. i dont think its fair that i have to pay more money as an existing customer than a new customer. any help?

Since the first generation iPhone was not subsidized by AT&T in the traditional way - with AT&T providing a discount off full retail sales price for the iPhone paid by AT&T to Apple on your behalf, you should qualify for AT&T's upgrade or subsidized pricing on a new phone including with the iPhone 3G.
AT&T's subsidizes or discounts the sales price for the iPhone 3G for new AT&T subscribers and for existing subscribers who qualify for AT&T's subsidized or discounted pricing on a new phone.
AT&T's subsidized price for the iPhone 3G is $199 for the 8GB, and $299 for the 16GB.
    AT&T's non-subsidized price for the iPhone 3G is $399 for the 8GB, and $499 for the 16GB.
This will require agreeing to a new two year contract, and AT&T's unlimited data plan rate for the iPhone 3G is $30/mo and doesn't include an SMS allowance. AT&T's unlimited data plan rate for the first generation iPhone ($20/mo which includes a 200 SMS allowance) is a special unlimited data plan rate that AT&T does not offer for any other phone in the smart phone or PDA category. AT&T's unlimited data plan rate for the iPhone 3G is AT&T's standard unlimited data plan rate for any phone in the smart phone or PDA category regardless if such a phone is not a 3G phone.
To have the same with the iPhone 3G - unlimited data and a 200 SMS allowance will cost you an additional $15/mo - $10/mo more for the unlimited data plan, and $5/mo more for a 200 SMS allowance.
In addition since the iPhone 3G is subsidized by AT&T, you will not qualify for AT&T's subsidized price for any phone including when the next generation iPhone is released for at least 18 months from the activation date for the iPhone 3G.

  • MacMini First generation intel

    Hi,
I was wondering if any of you with a first-generation Intel Macmini with a working ethernet connection would mind e-mailing me their NetworkInterfaces.plist file - which lives under: Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
My CoreDuo 1.6 ethernet port has stopped working and in trying to fix it (by deleting the network port from System Preferences) I can't re-add add it.
This information from a working macmini may solve it.
Thank you very much for your help,
    James.

I have an old (first generation) iMac that I still use sometimes for the applications that are on it. I was using it yesterday and unfortunately had a power cut. I went to turn it on today, and nothing at all happens. It's as though no power is getting to it. I've checked the obvious things, changed the fuse, tried different cables, poked paperclips in reset holes, but nothing doing. I wonder if there is anyone who knows what might be wrong. I was hoping to get some of its content transferred soon, but I'm guessing that can't be done if it can't be started up. Many thanks, if you can help

    Hello,
    >It's as though no power is getting to it.
Would it be correct to assume that no sounds at all can be heard? Also, no lights, not even green or amber at the power button?
    >unfortunately had a power cut.
Was it possibly a power cut in connection with a thunderstorm? Any other evidence of higher than normal voltages (light bulbs, et cetera)? Has the line voltage been checked (measured with an appropriate voltmeter/multimeter)?
If necessary, it would be possible to remove the hard drive, and then connect it to an external IDE/ATA to USB adapter (example below). That way you could gain access to files on the hard disk from another computer.

  • 20 inch First Generation Imac G5 RAM upgrade

    Hi all,
Hope someone can help. I want to add another 512MB RAM to my Imac in the slot I have free. Which/where RAM should I buy and are there any online instructions on how to install?
20 inch First Generation Imac G5
    Existing:
    DIMM1/J4001
    Size: 512 MB
    Type: DDR SDRAM
    Speed: PC3200U-30330
    Cheers,
    B

This is the RAM that you need:
    Rev A -
    iMac G5
    2 GB PC3200 (400)
    unbuffered DDR,
    184-pin 64 MB
    DDR
    SDRAM 2
Select the appropriate manual [here|http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=search&src=supportsite.kbase.search&locale=enUS&q=imac%20g5%20installing%20memory] for instructions on how to install, and you should be all set.

  • I have a first generation ipod touch. I use a wireless router to get on the internet. My connection has frozen and I can not get out of a google search screen. Any help is appreciated. Ray.

I have a first generation ipod touch. I use a wireless router to get my internet connection. It is frozen on opening up a website and will not release. Even when I power down and restart it goes back to the same failed connection. Any ideas greatly appreciated. Ray.

    - Try resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>Safari and delete cookies, cach and history.
    - Restore the iPod

  • Any chance I can use PC3200 (ECC) from my PC in my iMac?

I write 'my iMac' with faith, as I don't have one yet, but I'm getting closer and closer to pulling the trigger (and selling my powerbook to finance it). You see, I'm basically poor. I've got an open tab in this very browser for a 2gb kit of Corsair Value Select ($217). I've also considered a single gig stick (bringing me up to an unmatched 1.5gb). Then I had a crazy notion:
"My PC, which I hardly use any more due to the gruesome inferiority of XP to OS X, has 2x512mb PC3200 sticks in it... XP doesn't know what to do with anything more than 512!"
They are both ECC sticks, but my understanding is that ECC can work in non-ECC setups, but not vice versa. If you mobo requires ECC, you need ECC, but the ECC functionality can be not used and it'll work like non-ecc memory. Sorry if that wasn't clear, but I'm pretty sure my current mobo doesn't acknowledge or use ECC, yet my ECC ram is running fine. ECC stands for Error Correcting SOMETHING, btw. Servers often use it, runs a bit slower but more stably than non-ECC. Anyway, I've got two chips, a samsung and a crucial chip, and I'm hoping that IF they'll work at all, that one of them would 'match' whatever 512 chip Apple sends stock. Then I can get by with the iMac running on 1gb.
Am I a crazy cheap-skate? The other thing I considered slyly was 'Why not buy that 2gb kit and stick the spare 512 in the PC - then I can run BitTorrent, Google Earth AND a game at the same time on 1.5gb and stave off upgrading to an Intel iMac for another 6 months (ie. 2008?) because I also have 2gb in my iMac.'
    Thanks for your input.
    Alex
p.s. if anyone knows if the spanning hack has any chance to output to DVI, please let me know - or look at my other post - thanks.

    Alex,
    Apple says:
"Important: DIMMs with any of the following features are not supported in the computer: registers or buffers, PLLs, ECC, parity, or EDO RAM."
However, my understanding of the language "not supported" is that they might work, anyway, but if something goes wrong it's not Apple's fault.
With as many iMacs as are in use, there must be someone else who has tried ECC chips, if they are willing to own up to it:-)
