Any Design Tips For My New Site

Hi All - I am quite new to web development. Can you check out my website and let me know of any feedback you have?

I initially spent a decent amount of time, too much time, pondering and trying to select a nice theme. Once I realized it, I thought I should just go with the default 2012 theme and focus on simplicity. The result is a much cleaner site. I figure that later, some day, I can actually have a pro design make the appropriate changes.

Keep and monitor your logs. Make and keep multiple remote backups, particularly of your core data and database contents, and possibly also your log files. Actually every one is new for the new technologies.
Actually here as an ABAPer 1st try to learn DE-BUGGING as much as you can.
Try to do it from START-OF-SELECTION event 1st line on wards.
Put a break point on start of selection line event and execute it.
Here in debugging you need to carefully observe the behaviour of the program, logic etc etc.
Next understand the FORMS when they are triging and their reusability.
Under stand the Events sequence.
Later try to obsorbe the Syntax of the commands as much as you can.

Home page URL for a new site collection

Sorry for the kind of stupid question. I created a new site collection with Site Management menus. The home page has the URL like http://devtfs12/sites/corporate/_layouts/15/start.aspx#/ I expected that it should look like http://sharepoint.firm.lan/sites/corporate/SitePages/Home.aspx
e.g without "_layouts/15/start.aspx#" is there a way to change it? Is it possible to set up some sort of redirection so that http://sharepoint.firm.lan redirects to http://devtfs12/sites/corporate/_layouts/15/start.aspx#/ Thanks!

You are noticing the URL with _layouts/15/start.aspx because the new feature Minimal Download Strategy is activated on your site.

Starting a documentary, using PPro for the 1st time, any pro tips for workflow?

I'm a documentary director and editor that is making the big switch for my next project. For some background, I'm coming from the world of FCP 7 working with p2 DVCpro footage off a Panasonic HPX camera, multiple editors who each have separate systems with duplicates of media to work from, and usually finish using Color, outputting to HDCAM (SR if necessary).
For the new project the two editors will be working on Mac Pro Towers, OS 10.6.8, Dual Core 3Ghz Intel, 9GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5770. The towers were bought in late 2007, so we can't upgrade to Mountain Lion because our chipset is barely outdated.
We will be shooting the entirety of the doc on c300s, and eventually c100s.
One of the main attractions for our switch is that the c300 footage drops in Premiere natively, and we will not need to duplicate our storage space to create 422 Pro Res clips.
Is this a mistake? Does the long GOP format of the canon's mpeg format prove too incompatible for multiclipping, logging, cutting, and then color correct?
What do I need to do to ensure that each editor can open each other's project files as seamlessly as possible? How do we avoid waiting for the audio to load in each time we pass project files back and forth?
Because logging and organization are so important to us with the amount of footage we use, are there any bugs I should know of that delete markers or screw up the sync of multiclips?

Try doing a hard reset on the phone;
1. Hold Home and Sleep/Wake buttons at the same time;
2. Wait for the Apple logo to appear (ignore the slide to Power Off option)
3. Let go of the buttons when you see Apple on the screen
4. Allow iPhone to reboot; and try to open the apps again.
If that doesn't work; you will have to try a restore in iTunes; and then sync the apps back the phone after the restore.

I just learned that I can use most any mouse that has right click on my newish iMac G4. It also helps to know that I can control click / control space for the same operation.
Just hooked up different mouse. It is nice to have the scroll wheel again also.

I converted from PC's 5 years ago and have not looked back. Apart from computer games, software for macs is generally nicer looking, more "malleable" (you can make more adjustments than on PC's) and OS X is a very stable Operating system indeed.
Tips? Well, I think, just explore! A good idea maybe a comprehensive book. I bought "Mac OS X Leopard in depth" which explores many aspects of Leopard, including what is "hiding underneath the nice interface".
Generally, don't be afraid to experiment on OS X. It is difficult to break. A great idea is to password your machine, as well as turning on the file vault:

This will increase security. Also, with a passworded account, you think twice if a window pops up and asks you for your password (e.g. software installation). That way, you think before installing and corruption of the system is less likely.
Maybe THE most important step to remember is "good housekeeping", such as
1) run "disk utility" immediately prior to ANY software update (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1782)
2) If you are updating apple software, and it tells you "+you are not connected to an AC power source+" DO plug in your AC adapter (otherwise there are problems!)

Graphic Designer - Criteria for a New Computer

I apologize if I'm not in the right forum, but I can't think of anyone that would know better what I need to look for, than other Adobe users.
I may need to purchase a new laptop. As a graphic designer/web designer/video editor, what criteria constitutes a good, reliable, yet powerful, computer that’s suitable for graphic design, video editing and web design? I’m not looking for brands, that’s all preference. I’m wondering what I need to look for, no matter what brand I decide on (RAM, hard drive space, video card, etc.). The following criteria are musts for me:
A computer that can easily handle the load of Adobe programs
A computer that will allow 2, 3, 4…Adobe programs, and/or video editing software, to be open at the same time, while still allowing me to easily work in all of them. I don’t want to move an object and have to wait 10 min before I can continue my work, because there’s not enough memory/ram to render the object, quickly.
A computer that won’t slow down my computer when all these heavy duty programs are running, yet will still allow me to open and easily work in other programs or search the internet.
A computer with good battery life
I thought you needed a performance/gaming laptop for this type of load, but, now, it seems that might not be true. I recently returned to school for web design and we’re allowed to bring our own laptops, but mine died after an hour and a half. I don’t want to have to drag my power cord to school each time. Not to mention that I don’t want the cord to get in the way of other people in class. I want the computer to last on battery, at least for the 4 hours I’m in class. Almost everyone in class seems to have Mac laptops and they seem to last. Maybe that’s what I need to get, but I’m very happy with my current computer and I’m just looking for something to use in class and get me through school. I’m not ready to go all out yet.
Here’s some of the specs of my current computer
PC – Toshiba Qosmio x505 series
18.5 inch screen
i7 Intel processor
Came with 6GB ram, but I upgraded to 16GB ram
500GB hard drive
250GB hard drive
Graphics Card: GeForce GTS 360M
Average Battery Life: 1.5 hours (since the day I bought it – seems to be a common problem among Toshiba users)
Any help would be very helpful!! I know my way around a computer, but when it comes to technical things like this, I get lost.

Here it is, a little clearer:
I create ads for a firm. We export from Quark as an .eps to an 'In' box. When Distiller sees a file in the 'In' box, it Distills it, using our press settings and creates a .pdf that it then puts in an 'Out' box. What I want the script(s) to do is:
1) open that .pdf file just after creation (so I can look at it right away and not forget to!)
2) highlight the 'Out' box so I can remember that there is a new proof to send out to our client
Any help is REALLY appreciated.

Tips for a new Macbook user

I will be getting a new Macbook on Friday. I have had my 500 Mhz iBook for 6 years and finally I am upgrading. Any tips from anybody regarding transfering data, maintainance, clearing out harddrive space, etc. I am not a newbie and do regular maintainance on my iBook. I use YASU and Monolingual. Any troubleshooting tips for sync issues?

Hi,
Very new to Mobile Server. Started work on a new project that uses mobile server and we are running into a sync issue. The sync was working but we have hit an issue now.
Not sure of the cause and looking for pointers on where to look, what are some common problems, etc.

which version are you using.
your question is very general, perhaps some specific details would help, e.g. olite version, client type, error message etc
generally we had many issues with
connectivity especially through gprs (3g) , we used specific sim cards in handhelds that created a vpn style secure connection to the server and although the connection was established some times the packages size was greater so we had to adjust the connection settings on the device so that olite works during sync.
we had a lot of cases where olite was getting out of sync and was forcing a full refresh, thus losing the client's data. some times the data was entered in the error queue , an email was send to the admin but noone was watching anyway.
and many others.
check connection, check integrity (make sure that not 2 clients change the same table rows) make sure the server doesnt change parts of the database that the clients will change too (thus youll get conflicts).
make sure the sync remains stable, sometimes if you lose connection during a sync a full refresh might be needed (actually a patch was supposed to fix this)
we had issues with the sequences also but mainly because of bad design from our part, which we fixed later on.
etc...please provide some info on what error you are getting.
in general if you are getting an error code then you are probably going to find the solution. check the message reference in help to see what the error means, then try to see on the client what changes were made. check error queue/perhaps a log? server traces might help(might). also it depends what kind of sync are you making, your own or using the olite sync

Any design input for an updatable listing?

My client wants to be able to add job position titles and descriptions to a page. He wants the user to be able to see the job position titles at the top, all together and then choose which one of them he wants to see the full description.
I wanted to do something other than list the items, then have anchors to the job description...just so it would be a little nicer
I thought I might use an accordian box so one could just click on the description they wanted to see. But I'm worried that this might limit my client's being able to update listings himself. Also, adding listings might be an issue.
Has anyone done something like this and made it updatable with Cushy cms?
Anyone have a better design solution?

If I understand your question, you want to be able to provide a method for your client to add job listings on their site as they come up?
I have done something like this is the past where I created a simple form, they input the information such as title, descrip, requirments and it goes into a database.
Then on the job opportunites page, you call the information from the DB.
You would want to have a method for them to not show the information once the job is filled, such as a column that is a yes/no column that if the answer is yes, the row is displayed, if no, it does not.
I am unfamilar with cushy, so I cant really help you with that.
