Any details on new Sybase to Oracle migration tools announced in August?

I'm currently researching approaches for migrating an application from using Sybase to using Oracle. I came across an announcement that suggests that Oracle is coming out with new tools that go above and beyond the DDL, stored procedure and data migration offered in Oracle SQL Developer. Does anyone know if any additional information is available on what these tools actually do and when they will be available? I have included the description from an informational session at the August OpenWorld conference at the end of this post.
For the application that I am trying to migrate, the biggest challenge are a group of UNIX programs written in C and C++ that use the Sybase Open Client library to talk to a Sybase database.
OpenWorld Session Description from August, 2012:
"Migrating non-Oracle databases to Oracle Database has been a fairly straightforward process with Oracle SQL Developer, but what about all the existing application code that must be rewritten for an Oracle environment. In this session, learn how new exciting technology from Oracle will enable you to simply point your Sybase application to your migrated Oracle Database instance and run without rewriting your application source. Oracle tools also can parse and report the Sybase T-SQL requiring translation. Allow Oracle translators to rewrite the code for you as you test and patch the application as needed before deploying to production on Oracle Exadata."

Hello,
if you are interested you can have a look at the complete OOW presentation:
https://oracleus.activeevents.com/connect/search.ww?event=openworld#loadSearch-event=openworld&searchPhrase=sybase&searchType=session&tc=0&sortBy=&p=&i%2811425%29=&i%2810053%29=&i%2811404%29=&i%2811562%29=&i%2811488%29=&i%2810089%29=&i%2811840%29=
The new features requires Oracle 12c and SQL Developer 3.2. From http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/sqldev-newfeatures32-1731840.html :
+12c Database Support+
This release supports 12c Database features. Customers part of the 12c Database Beta program can test the latest 12c features.
I hope this helps.

  • Oracle Migration Tool

I recently downloaded the Oracle Migration Tool for migrating a
Microsoft Access database to Oracle8 for Linux. This migration
    tool contains the following components:
    1. Oracle Installer 3.3.0.1.3
    2. Oracle Migration Assistant for Microsoft Access 8.0.4.0.0
    3. Oracle Named Pipes Protocol Adapter 8.0.4.0.0
    4. Oracle Net8 Client 8.0.4.0.0
    5. Oracle Objects for OLE 2.2.2.2.0
    6. Oracle TCP/IP Protocol Adapter 8.0.4.0.0
    7. Oracle8 ODBC Driver 8.0.4.0.0
    8. Required Support Files 8.0.4.0.0
I installed everything onto my Windows98 client machine. Once I
did this, I could see the following entries in my Start Menu
    under "Oracle for Windows95":
    1. Microsoft ODBC Administrator
    2. 004002 Class Library Documentation
    3. 004022 Bound Controls and Class Library
    4. 004022 Control Notes
    5. 004022 Release Notes
    6. Oracle Home Selector
    7. Oracle Installer
    8. Oracle Migration Assistant for MS Access
    9. Oracle Objects for OLE Documentation
    10. Oracle ODBC Help File
    11. Oracle ODBC README File
    12. Oracle ODBC Test
When I went into the Microsoft ODBC Administrator, I could also
see that there was a new entry under the ODBC Drivers tab:
Oracle ODBC Driver 8.00.0400 Oracle Corporation SQORA32.DLL
    12/3/97
    So far, so good.
Then I started going through the Oracle8 ODBC help file to get
my machine set up to start using the tool. Under "Configuration
    Tasks," it says the following:
Before you configure the data source, you must configure Net8
database services, so there is an entry for each Service Name.
To do this, start the Oracle Net8 Assistant, either click on the
Oracle for Windows NT program group and click on the Oracle Net8
Assistant icon or from the start bar select Programs, select
Oracle for Windows NT, and select the Oracle Net8 Assistant.
Using the Oracle Net8 Assistant, you can create an entry in the
tnsnames.ora file for each Service Name. The Oracle Net8
Assistant is installed when you install Net8.
That's when I started running into problems. Although the
installer had shown that Net8 had been installed, I could not
find any evidence of a Net8 Assistant on my Windows98 client
machine. Is there a trick to starting up the Net8 Assistant?
Until I am able to perform this step, I cannot go to the next
step of configuring my ODBC driver.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Brendan,
I am not 100% sure, but I believe win98 is not supported.... yet.
I know that 95 is supported, but to be honest, I do not run
winDOZE. Maybe an upper authority from Oracle should correct me
    if I am wrong.

  • Oracle Migration Tool giving Access denied error for Read operation

    Hi;
Oracle Migration tool is giving access denied error when we are trying to Read a record for Access Profiles.
We are getting (SBL-ODS-50085) error. This is happening only for few records(Access Profiles).
Although the user role is administrator having full access and privilege (Manage User and Access checked).
Pl. help me resolve the issue.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Does it happen when you try to read "any" Access Profile?
If yes, please have a look at the
"Admin: Users and Access Controls - Manage Users and Access - Manage Users and establish User Quotas. Define Access Profiles, Roles and Groups to manage data access controls." privilege in the role of the user you use for migration.
In order to avoid any problem, I usually create a "Migration" role temporarily and assign this role ALL the privileges to avoid such failures at the time of export.
    Hope this helps,
    Best regards,

  • Sybase to Oracle Migration

    Hi,
My case is little bit different.I have Sybase Database and Oracle Database
and I need to migrate from Sybase to Oracle but unfortunately both these servers are not connected .
Please suggest how to do data verification.I was planning to use DMV.
    Regards
    Amit

    Amit,
In this case you need to do a manual verification. You can do this in a number of ways. Essentially you issue the "same" SQL against Sybase and Oracle and compare the results.
A simple check would be doing a count(*)
A slightly more complex check might be doing a SUM function
A more complex check could be issuing a complex SQL statement, that would validate further the integrity of the data, by including multiple columns within the query (i.e. as part of a where clause)

  • Impact of Sybase To Oracle Migration(PLEASE HELP!!!)

  • Oracle Migration Tool Upsert failed

    Hello
I met the following problem. ReadAll Picklist works fine with the Migration Tool.
    ***     Migrationtool -u <username> -s <CRM on Demand Server> ReadAll Picklist**
I´ve got the picklist.xml files into my repository folder.
After that I tried to test the upsert method by changing picklist values for Route in the account object. The following command:
    _**    Migrationtool -u<username> -s<servername> Upsert Picklist <path to xml>*_
    runs successfully
but nothing has changed in CRM On Demand.
Any suggestions? They would be highly appriciated.
    thx in advance
    Klaus

    Hello Jan,
after a while working at the basics I find out, that only new objects or objects that has changed will be downloaded by the ReadAll command. Other XML-Files will be empty, so an error occured on UpSert method. All other UpSert commands will work fine except the UpSert for Role-Settings. That upsert will end up in an "access denied" error. Upserts on Related InformationLayout will suceed but not in full functionality.
    regards

  • More and more questions don't provide any details. Is anyone going to address this?

I notice that with the advent of the new forum software apparently asking a question has been made easier.
This results in almost 99 percent of all posters not consulting documentation and not providing any details (IE no four digit Oracle version and no platform info).
Also there are people who clearly are asking you to do their documentation searches.
I was wondering whether anything can be done about addressing this.
I'm not holding my breath, but I wonder why people here continue to spoon feed 'DBAs'  who are clearly too lazy to do anything (except using these forums as a chat room) to resolve their issues.

Yes, the "Announcements" are badly shown and don't stand out, meaning the SQL and PL/SQL FAQ is only visible by chance as the announcements switch automatically every 30 seconds (or whatever the timing is).
I was considering asking Sonya if it was ok for me to remove the other announcement as it doesn't really add any value, and that would just leave the FAQ announcement as the only one, so making it a little more visible.
Maybe if Sonya sees this thread/discussion she can give us her opinion on that.
URL to the SQL and PL/SQL forum so Sonya can see what we're on about... PL/SQL
As to sybrand's question... I really don't know what we can do about it apart from just pointing people to the FAQ if they don't ask properly.
I guess it would help if the editor was fixed so it was easier to post code nicely, but that still won't make people post all the details.

  • Migration tool moves files to new user

    Hi
I have a new imac and the migration tools works fine. i have migrated "my music" and now i am trying to migrate "my photos" but the tool wants to create a new user and my photos end up being associated with this new user rather than my account, i.e. i can't seem to move them between users. any thoughts on how i migrate the photos across to my user account or how i move them from a new user to my account?
    Cheers

You move them manually, either from the old computer or by dragging the other account's home folder to the desktop and authenticating yourself.

  • Downloading the Oracle Migration Workbench

Is there any way I can download the Oracle Migration Workbench ? Following the normal download steps results in an error. After accepting the license term a survey is presented. After that I can choose between an external and internal download (for oracle employees) Choosing the latter results in a page full off strange characters. This happened several times. Any suggestions ?
    Thanks
    Dieter

Are you able to download from this page?

  • Error while installing Migration Tool kit for SAP BPC7.0

    Hi all,
We are implementing SAP Business Planning and Consolidation Migration Process to BPC 7.0.
We are trying to installin Migration Tool Kit. In this kit we are having two set up files - one for BPCMigrationClient and another for BPCMigrationServer.
When i am trying to install the BPCMigrationServer set up file it diaplays a screen which says - Enter the service type accounts.- it has the following items - 1. System Admin ID, 2. password, 3. Admin ID, 4. Admin Password, 5. User ID, 6. User Password.
    1. System Admin ID already has the id ( through which i have logged on to the system). This option is non editable.
    2. password: gives option to type in the password.
3, 4, 5, 6 options are disabled and are blank. we are not able to edit them or write anything in them.
After entering the password when clicked on next , it gives us message saying Invalid Admin ID (3). But the problem here is that the 3,4,5 and 6 options are disabled. We cannot write anything in them. We are not able to install the migration tool kit because of this.
Can anyone help us out in solving this issue.
    Thanks,
    Madhav

CAn you precise also what Migration tool are you using?
Migration from 5.1 to SAP BPC 7.0 NW?
In that case when you are speaking about the installation about what part are you speaking?
I think actually you are speaking about the migration tool from 4.2 to 7.0 Microsoft version .
In that case you can install the mIgration tool just with SAP BPC sys admin users and you have to input the password for that user. Sys admin user for BPC is usually the user used for installation of SAP BPC server.
Any way I suggest to follow the Migration tool training document and there you will find all the information necessary.
