Any differences in LP8 and Logic Studio..?

Hi Everybody: Now that I´ve started to understand that it will be the best for me learning the new Logic, in order to keep working....I wonder if I am in the Logic Pro 8 or Logic Studio domain....?
I am a Logic user since version 2.7 , I had the upgrades made on time too. But now, after I´ve pay $499 for this new stuff, coming from LP7....There is a little shadow in my mind...
I know it is too late, but I would like to know if there are any differences between them (I mean, LP8 vs. Logic Studio).
Thanks in advance

Well, Thanks you both. That´s what I though but since there are two discussions that point toward those two names, I desided to consult the experts.
I´ll keep trying to learn how to keep my work flow on those new windows and screensets.
Thanks a lot.

  • Apogee ensemble and logic studio

I got a new apple desktop pro quad 2.66 and Logic Studio.
I have been using a Motu 828mk11 and logic 7 pro.
I was considering using the Apogee Ensemble and was wondering if anyone using Studio has any luck with Ensemble and if they think the switch would be worth the investment.
I also Use an API A2D preamp with the digital outs.....any news on how that might work with Ensemble?
anyway, just a note, if anyone cares, the UAD Nevana X2 works really tightly with Logic Studio and its WORTH the purchase price. amazing.

If you use outboard gear for mix and processing i.e you route out your Software Instruments thru some of the Apogee outputs (analog/optical or digital), process them using some external analog or DSP processors and route back the processed sound to the Apogee Inputs ( i.e Logic Mix track ), then the mix may be different, rather than the Logic native Bounce.
If you use Logic bounce, then Apogee is just a monitoring device as was mentioned before. I agree if you have several devices and play same (previously) bounced Logic audio file thru the different devices they may sound different - this the test the audio engineers make in the laboratories.
Personally I own several devices and I prefer to use one for final mix monitoring (which is most "true" not "sweet or pumped"), some for recording, other for internal DSP processing, depends on the situation...

what is the difference between != and Logical NOT operator The NOT operator is transformed into the inequality operator (<>), as can be seen from the Predicate Information of the explain plan:

  • Is there any difference between iPhotobooks and Aperturebooks

    Hello,
Can someone tell me if there is any difference in paperquality and covermaterials between iPhotobooks and books via Aperture.
I did receive my first iPhotobook: it looks good in printing and coulor, but the paper is a bit thin(cheap look). It feels the same as the paper in the books of our warehouse. Apart from the design options will the quality be better if I print it vias Aperture?
    Thanks for any comment
    Suzanne

No, there is no difference. Instance name is the same as SID.

  • Whats the difference between EPMA and Essbase Studio

Aren't they both used for designing applications?
And do one really need Essbase Studio?

Whats the difference between EPMA and Essbase Studio ^^^It is a bit confusing, isn't it? As far as I understand EPMA's role, it's a way to share common dimensions and data across multiple Oracle EPM products including Essbase, Planning, and HFM. I actually don't know if other products live in EPMA. What EPMA does not have is a nice way of sourcing or manipulating dimension and fact tables (or even files). Oh, there are interface tables, but you will write code/use the EPMA dimension utility to load dimensions. I have to say I've never tried to load data through EPMA so someone else is going to have to comment on that. Once dimensions are built, you can deploy Essbase (and other products) from common and database-specific dimensions.
Studio is the tool you would use to go against a data warehouse, or something awfully close to a data warehouse to build Essbase databases. It's for Essbase only -- Planning, HFM, etc. are not the targets of Studio's output.
What gets confusing/intriguing is that when EPMA deploys Essbase apps, it uses Studio under the covers to do so. Thus the interesting implementations where people use Studio (which is way more flexible than EPMA because it is a development tool as opposed to a dimension/data management app) to read the EPMA interface tables (and for all I know, the base EPMA tables) and build Essbase apps that way.
If you think there is overlap, I would agree with you, but you can see they really aren't the same.
And do one really need Essbase Studio?^^^You don't have to use Studio to build Essbase databases. You can go hog-wild in EAS with SQL load rules if you want, although at some point it probably will be easier/more straightforward to build it in Studio. Although Studio has been mentioned as the replacement for EAS for some time, I suspect the effort required to build a database in Studio will keep EAS around for quite a while or Studio Lite will have to come out. There's a lot to be said (sometimes) for the amazing flexibility EAS/Essbase have -- Studio requires a more methodical approach and EPMA has a very formal set of standards and methods.
Whew, I'm sorry, I wrote a book about this and I'll bet you get a bunch of differing opinions on this.
If you're interested in Studio, you might do well to pick up a copy of Glenn Schwartzberg's "Look Smarter Than You Are with Oracle Essbase Studio 11". I receive not a penny from its sale although I was one of the copy editors (hey, I got a mention in the acknowledgements). It's a good book and an excellent introduction to the tool.

  • Difference between Logic Pro 9 and Logic Studio?

I have garage band and I notice that the instruments available are extremely limited, so I am looking to upgrade solely for the idea of getting more instruments and more features. Does the app store Logic Pro 9 have the extensive amount of official instruments to download for free? Or are there additional costs if you are looking to purchase the instruments for the app store logic 9?
I know that the studio version has mainstage, compressor and other programs etc, but what I am looking to find out is if there is a difference between what instruments, resources and materials found in the $210 Logic 9 and the Logic Studio version that you can't download for free from inside Logic 9?
    Thanks

The instruments themselves are embedded within the Logic application, with the exception of the sample libraries for the EXS24 and Ultrabeat. All of the content, including the various Jampacks and sample libraries are available to download

    No.... free

The "Studio" DVD's include the now defunct Soundtrack Pro, which had around 20G of loops, beds and sound FX. Some of that material is now available for Final Cut X.
A few utility programs are also missing (Waveburner etc).

  • Logic Express 8 and Logic Studio Comparison chart

Does anyone know if Apple have released a comparison chart for Logic pro 8 and express 8? I know the main differences but I would like to see them on a chart.
    Any ideas?

    *Ur Query*
The Compression you are inquiring about is an app called Compressor which used to be bundled with DVD Pro. This app which is now happily nesting within the Logic Studio app is used to compress your audio files via using different codex from Quicktime. In so doing it makes your audio & Visuals ready for a large selection of pro delivery formats I.e for the web and for DVD etc.
    *Apples direction*
What Apple in its infinite wisdom did with Logic studio, was to look at it current Pro App Audio visual suite, FinalCut Pro, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Pro & Logic and started to stream line them. So everything pertaining to Audio in these other apps was transferred over to the Logic app which makes sense if you look at the bigger picture. This left Final Cut Pro and DvD Pro which have been brought together under the guise of FinalCut Studio here everything is housed pertaining to the Visual side of things.
    Summery
So what you now have is a greatly slim-lined Pro App product line. The future is to have these as a clear brand which will provide the professional Multimedia business with a one stop solution to their audio visual needs.

  • How to run Pro Tools 7.4 LE and Logic Studio 8.0.2, simultaneously..

My setup: single Quad Core 2.8GHz 8GB of RAM, running Logic Studio 8.0.2 (projectmix)
Single 1.8 GHz G5 running Pro Tools LE 7.4 (digi 002 rack)
I want to set up Logic (as master) as my main sequencer, to run Pro Tools for audio.
    What's the best setup?
    1. Midi the two interfaces together, sync by MTC, or Midi Clock….if so, what are the settings, as I had an unsuccesful run at it using MTC...
    or
    2. Run both programs on my Quad Core - is there a way to have Logic run Pro Tools on the same machine - with two different interfaces on separate firewire ports?
    Any info would be appreciative.
    Thanks

    I did the following:
Set up the audio output for the Logic to be the internal sound card, and hook up this via Digital lightpipe to the Digi002 rack lightpipe inputs, set them to SPDIF in the hardware setup page. You'll need a special adaptor to go out of the headphone outs of your mac to turnit into digital signal. Check your Mac's manual for that.
Then set up an IAC buss for the midi, inside the AudioMidiSetup software, and tell ProTools to send MTC to this IAC buss, while telling Logic to receive MTC via the same IAC buss. Make SURE you ahve the same exact SMPTE and MTC flavor on both amchnes, and also the right sample rate (match it on both)
Then, set an Aux input in ProTools Le to accept the incoming SPDIF stereo signal from Logic, press play, and they both now synch perfectly.

  • Novation 47SL MKII and Logic Studio

I use a Novation 47MKII midi controller and I keep getting this error when going into Logic Studio 9 after working in Live 8. Any ideas why this would happen?
“Device “HUI” is assigned to MIDI Port “Automap HUI” which is not present.
Please ensure that all MIDI interfaces are connected and switched on. If this is the case, please check the MIDI port setting of device “HUI”. If this is correct, click “Reset All MIDI Drivers” in Preferences > MIDI > General."

I have the same issue with my ReMOTE ZeRO SL and have not been able to figure out how to have it keep the configuration. The setup guide works fine, but it doesn't maintain the MIDI configuration and I need to re-enter the environment settings each time I setup the system.

  • Final Cut and Logic Studio

    I have a MacBook with:
    Processor-2.1 GHz Intel Core Duo
    Memory-1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Question: A) Can I run Final Cut Studio 2 and/or Logic Studio
    B) If not, will a timecapsule or mimi mac give me the power needed?

First of all, you'd need to install more RAM to run either program. Both programs require a MINIMUM of 1gb of RAM, so if you run either program, there'd be no RAM available for the OS or any background processes. So yes, it would slow your computer down to a crawl ... if not a crash.
There is no way to connect any Firewire device to the new MacBooks. So no FW control surfaces for Logic Studio and no way to connect a tape based camcorder or FW hard drive for external storage.
Motion and Color probably wouldn't even install due to the weak graphics card and shared RAM.
Also, keep in mind that Apple officially doesn't support FCS on the MacBook at all. Essentially, the MacBook is not designed for editing. But hey ... it's your money.

  • BFD, Focusrite Saffire, Yamaha DTxtreme IIS and Logic Studio 8

I currently have a Yamaha DTXreme IIs electronic drumkit, a Focusrite Saffire interface (firewire) BFD 1, an academic version of Logic Express, MacBook Pro (specs below) with 2 GB RAM. Not upgrading to Tiger (yet).
I have had pretty good luck with BFD, although I can't use it to its full potential because of LE's limitations (can't use BFD All or Ultra to route drums to individual tracks out of BFD using a template in Logic Express - or so their support tells me). There were some issues with the bussing and auxillary channels in Logic Express being very limited and rather non-sensical in comparison with a typical mixing set-up. Really curious to know the specs on Studio 8 in regard to auxillary channels and stereo bussing.
    Any word on those items?

    Hi,
Logic Studio (the full version, not the LE) has the ability to use up to 64 busses. Also, there are better routing options, as there are no limitations like in LE.
Also, you can play back up to 200 tracks (of course, your computer has to be able to do so...)
Unfrtunately, for you, you'll have to buy the full version, since you have an academic version roght now, which does not allow oyu to upgrade to 8. THe good news is that Studio is very affordable for what you get.

    Hi bjp1,
I work with both on the same comp, first I worked with Logic and next I've installed ProTools M-Powered and updated PT to PT 8.
I've noticed that there are no conflict and I can work with both at the same time.
My PT works with Lightbridge and Logic with MOTU. You can use M-Audio interface with Logic as well.

  • USB mixer and Logic Studios

I am curious how Logic Studios would see a USB mixer. Does it see the entire mixer as one input or each channel on the mixer separately. For example, if I used a regular mixer and hooked it into the microphone jack, everything coming from that mixer would be one single signal. Does a USB mixer work the same way, or does the software see each channel separately. For example, could I put an effect on only one channel without effecting the others? I am slowly piecing together a little mini recording studio and this would help me determine whether it is worth the extra money to get a USB mixer. Does a USB mixer off any other benefits over a regular mixer?

    Hi,
Which mixer are looking to use?
Have you read that mixers' manual yet?
That more than anything in this forum, will answer your question.
    Cheers
