Any experience from Firestore hard disc?

Any one that may have experience with these hard drives?
I want to connect my avid express non linear editing suite with this firestore, play my sequence and write .avi files, for import them later into encore.
That is because i cant export .avi or .mpg from Avid.
Anyone that has try this?
Looking forward to your reply
Thanks

>That is because i cant export .avi or .mpg from Avid.
Why not? Also, I don't see how using media from a Firestore will help here. It really makes no difference to the editing process whether the media comes from tape or HD. You still have to export the edited project from Avid into something Encore can use.

  • How to transfer my iTunes library from a hard disc to new computer?

Could anybody help me with this issue? I've tried everything I could without any succes...
My computer where I had my iTunes library (complete with many info and ratings) crashed and I lost all my archives. Luckly I had a copy of everything in an external hard disc. My iPod works fine with all the songs from that library. I bought a new computer, but now I cannot transfer the data of the library from the hard disc to the new computer.
I'd really appreciate if somebody could help me...
    Many thanks, Rui

Great! Very simple actually (once you know). The library is now corrected listed on iTunes, with my original playlists and the ratings.
But now how do I bring the music files? I've tried to import them from the hard disk, but iTunes didn't synchronize with the ones listed on the library, so there are duplicates of all songs and the ones I can play are not the ones on my playlists and with the ratings.
Do you have another brilliant solution?
    Thanks in advance

  • Your Experience With Direct-From-Camera Hard Disc Recorders

I've been exploring purchasing a FireStore camera-mounted hard disc recorder, and was wondering if anyone has any experience using one of these devices.
Right now I'm wary of them, due to the fact that I would want to have the time code on my video tapes perfectly synchronized with the time code on the disc's video files, so I could use FCP to re-capture the footage later if necessary. It seems unlikely that they are capable of maintaining this synchronization, especially if you wanted to review a shot in the field.
    Thanks,
    Zap

Zap...be wary. Be VERY WARY of these devices. Among issues with this device are the fact that because it is formatted FAT-32 you only get 2GB file sizes...little over 2 min chunks of video. And during the transition from one 2GB file to the next, between 1 and 5 frames are dropped...lost...not recorded.
I highly recommend the P2 card and ONLY the P2 cards. When the video switches from one card to the second, not one frame is lost.
And a recapture with this format isn't a re-capture per se, but a re-import. Because you save the original files that the HVX records on separate hard drives than your media drives. The footage is imported.
    Have you seen my tutorial?
Firestore is a bad idea. Cineporter...if it ever sees the light of day, might be an option.

  • How can I delete previous sites from my hard disc?

I am working my way through Adobe Muse - Classroom in a book.
I recently asked the forum about an unlabeled 'preparation page' and finally located it at the end of the folder of lessons. My thanks for that assistance.
I have now got as far as Lightbox and Widgets. Now I would like to wipe the board clean and start afresh.
Either because of differences between the book or updates to Muse and my Welcome dialogue box has eight attempts that I would like to remove.
How do I remove / delete previous sites from the Welcome dialogue box or should that read Hard Disc?
    Help much appreciated.

    /Dear Sanjit,
I'm sorry but that trick doesn't work on my copy of Muse. If I click on
any of the files names on the welcome window it opens as a Muse file and
if I right click nothing happens at all. My Muse is up to date as I get
it from Adobe Cloud/./Adobe Air has just now updated/.
      Any ideas?

  • Time machine restore from dead hard disc

I have a client with a 2007 iMac. The hard disc failed. I have a time machine backup, and need to restore to a new hard disc. Do we need to re-install 10.8, and then restore from timemachine, or can we boot the machine and do a restore? What is the quickest, but best method?

I would like to remove the sound originally recorded on my video clips with music on the hard disc.

    HI
I would just set audio on clip to zero and add the wanted audio. Either as backrgound or dropp audio file onto the Video-clip to get it to connect to this.

  • How do i transfer  movie from Sky+ hard disc to imovie?

Struggling here guys. Is this operation possible?
Need to edit a tv programme using imovie, and it is recorded on sky+ hard drive.
Thought maybe i could use a dvd recorder to get the footage, and then play dvd on my g5 imac. How would I then be able to import it into imovie?
My dvd recorder is dvd+r and dvd+rw, will this work?
No ilink output on sky box just usual scart, optical etc.
New to Macs and really need a soloution for this as the footage is stuff that i am in (im an actor) and i want to make up my own showreels instead of forking out a fortune for someone else to do it.
    Thanks in advance.

    You have two options.
    1) In this context, the sky box is like a VHS VCR:

  • Any experiences from pro photographers, musicians using 2DCMBP ontheroad

I am trying to decide whether to buy now or wait.
I go abroad alot, badly need an upgrade from the G3 PISMO.
1-any difficulties carrying it on board a transcontinental flite
2-Size wise will it fit in several photo backbacks like the PISMO does?
3-I would love to know about speed issues re: DVD burn speed,
photoshop use with ROSETTA until adobe presesents compatible software.
4-Basic plusses and minuses of the 2DCMBP or for that matter the first MBPro?
5-Will waiting make any sense since it will probably be in MAY 2007 when the next generation appears with LEOPARD.
    thanks

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the PISMO was only a 14.4" LCD Laptop. The MacBook Pros are a wider laptop and i don't know the height of your bag. I would recommend that you look at the technical specs of the 15" Macbook Pros and see if it will fit in your bag.
Apple also released their Core 2 Duo MacBooks the other day. That might be a much better solution since Aperture and many other photo programs are more processor intensive rather than graphic. The MacBook will be smaller than your PISMO and will have all of the latest and greatest technology. The largest differences between the MacBook Pro and the MacBook are the physical size of the screen, the native resolution of the two screens, price, and standalone vs integrated video. If you can look away from the differences and think of practicality. The MacBook is an economical solution as well as physically smaller than the MacBook Pro. The MacBook has the technology of the MacBook Pro in an affordable solution.

  • System won't boot from the hard disc.

I can only find my install disk for 10.1.4 on my PBG4, but the operating system was 10.3.9
? Can I recover my files & operating system with the 10.1.4 CD & then download 10.3.9? (Assuming the 10.1.4 install is successful!)
    Hope someone can assist.
    Talkin tash

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
10.3.9 will only install on top of 10.3 retail if your Mac came with 10.1.4.
    10.3 retail looks like *
Unless the 10.1.4 disk includes hardware test or an Additional Applications installer, it isn't worth keeping. There is hardly anything compatible with 10.1.4 anymore.
No version of Mac OS X includes a true data recovery application, though their Disk Utility typically can restore images made as backup. Unfortunately 10.3.9 is already so far more advanced than 10.1.4, restoring an image may not be possible with the 10.1.4 installer. Why do you need to recover files? And what do you need to recover files from?

  • Tip - Satellite L355-S7902 Simple fix for L355-S7902 any vibration from the hard drive

My Satellite L355-S7902 developed a very noticable vibration.
I soon found the source: the SATA hard drive was loose in the drive bay.
The simple and effective solution is to glue a small block (3/8in cube) of high density foam between the drive and the cover.

Thanks for your help, I have had a read around lots of sites, but am still confused, do I have to make up a special version of xp with the Toshiba drivers?

  • File could not be written....is the problem when trying to import any photo from my hard drive.. I have just downloaded lightroom 5 and it does not seem to want to link with my photos .. win 7

    question

Could you quote the entire error message, word-for-word, verbatim? What Import settings are you using ... Copy, Move, Add?
Most likely you have a permissions issue, but it will be much more clear to me if I can see the entire message.

  • My iMac is running REALLY slow - could my hard disc be dying?

    I have a 27" iMac with a Core i7 chip and 8GB of RAM.
It has always worked really fast with absolutely everything I have tried with it.
It worked fast in Snow Leopard. I upgraded it to Lion in September and it still worked fast (though a tiny bit slower perhaps than Snow Leopard).
In the last week, the machine's speed has slowed to an absolute crawl and I am almost constantly getting the spinning beach ball.
By a crawl, I mean that opening iTunes can take five minutes. Opening the Applications folder inside Finder can take five minutes. During times of this slowness, the spinning beach ball animates and I can move the mouse cursor, but I cannot get any response from the machine.
The machine is so slow that it is basically unuseable - I cannot wait five minutes to open a document!
What is really odd is that the computer will be really slow for 4-5 minutes, and then for perhaps 40 seconds or so I will get maybe one minute where things work at normal speed, before the speed drops back to a crawl.
Even restarting the computer takes an age.
My theory is that something in the computer has malfunctioned - either the motherboard or the hard disc.
I have run a few disc utilities (Disk Utility, Apple Hardware Diagnostic, TechTool 5), and the SMART status of the hard disc appears to be good and all reports check back successfully - although they all take longer than I'd expect. Whether that means the hard disc is really fine or not, I'm not clear.
I had one other hard disc die on me once, and that just died and was gone, but if my hard disc is dying then the problem it is showing is intermittent, i.e. it is only working part of the time.
At present I am making a backup of the iMac hard disc by having booted the iMac in Firewire Target Disk mode and manually copying files across. However, so far it has only managed 1GB of about 432GB and is estimating that it will take 2 days to complete the task.
Has anybody got any advice - is the hard disc or the motherboard a likely culprit?
The machine is under warranty at least, but I can't figure out whether to drag the machine into an Apple Store, or to phone AppleCare and get them to pick it up. If the machine would be repaired while I waited at the Apple Store then that would be great but I doubt this would happen.
    Any advice?
P.S. I checked for runaway processes... nothing to find in Activity Monitor. CPU is about 5% max. Lots of free RAM. Hard disc is only half full.

How do you load lion onto an exteranl disk and boot from it as I would like to give that a try.
I presume its an external usb drive?
    thanks
    Hi,
I used an external hard disc - Western Digital MyBook 500GB drive.
All you do is run the Lion installer, which you can redownload from the Mac App Store if you've bought it. As part of the Lion installer it asks which drive you want to install to.
To save having to redownload the Lion installer every time, once the download has completed from the Mac App Store, but before you have run the installation process, you can extract the disc image and retain it for future use (if you don't extract the disc image, then it gets deleted at the end of the installation process and you'd have to redownload it again next time).

  • How do I delete photos from iPhoto without deleting them from my hard drive

I've imported a bunch of photos from my hard drive.
I would now like to delete some of these photos from iPhoto but would still like to keep them on my hard drive in case I need to access them in future.
However, when I delete a photo from iPhoto and move it to the Trash, once Trash is emptied it deletes the original from the hard disc as well.
How do I get around this?
    Thanks
    Nick

    Thanks guys.
Can I hide an entire Event?
I used to use Picasa on a PC. When you make any changes in Picasa (even rotating a picture) it creates a copy. Any photos you have altered get named 'Originals' so when you import into iPhoto you end up with hundreds of Events called Originals with near duplicate photos.
So probably a third of my images (around 1500) are near dupes which I want out of the application but want to keep secure on my hard drive...
The pitfalls of switching to iPhoto from Picasa I guess (that said, iPhoto looks great)...

If I ask for the info, any action I do has no effect... please help!

there is really no default settings for permissions on an external drive (unless it's a bootable drive). you can choose them at your convenience. If you are the only user I would probably make you the owner and staff the group and give both yourself and staff read+write privileges. However, as I said there are no defaults and you use whatever is most convenient. Having root as the owner is not the most convenient thing btw. I would change it to yourself (and group to staff). wheel is a bad group to have there as normally root is the only member of the weel group.
the terminal command for that is
    *sudo chown `id -un`:staff /Volumes/WesternDigital*
It can also be done from the get info panel for the drive.
