Any experience with the NEC 3550A DVD drive?

I have a question for you - NEC's website and all the literature I can find shows Windows xp/2000 as a system req. but there is no indication that it is supported or will work in a Mac. I have seen literally hundreds of posts here highly touting this drive, but just wanted to pick your brains on this.. anything additional I will need to get it to work in a power mac dual G5, running tiger 10.4.4?
reason i am wanting to replace mine, is i get the 0x80020022 error when trying to burn DVDs.
I have tried deleting ~/library/caches as well as creating a new administrative user, and no luck.
thanks,
adam ([email protected])

No, I purchased the Pioneer DVR-110D drive thinking that since Apple uses them more often than not, that this would be a good choice. Updates are more frequent for the Pioneer drives though. It appears that advancements in DVD writing obsoletes this type of drive (or requires a firmware update) that was not seen with CD writing technology.

  • Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the 750gb 7200rpm hitachi hard drive in a late 2008 MacbookPro

    Hi everyone,
I find the speed and space in my macbook pro is not enough for me anymore. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Hitachi 750gb/7200rpm hard drive? I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro (15 inch, 2.93 ghz C2D, 4gb ram) running osx Lion and was wonder about compatibility with said drive.
    Thanks,

  • Any experience with the Discoverer Desktop on Vista

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone was using the Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2 on Vista.
Are there any specific patches required?
Did you encounter any bugs in the Discoverer Desktop when moving from Win XP to Vista?
    Reagards
    Maurice

So I found the answer to my question: if you want to use the discovere desktop don't migrate to Vista :-(
Subject: Information On Discoverer Certification With Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System
    Doc ID: Note:456426.1 Type: HOWTO
Last Revision Date: 19-SEP-2008 Status: PUBLISHED
Discoverer 4.1.37 to Discoverer 10.1.2.2 are not certified with Windows Vista. It is not recommended to install Discoverer Plus, Viewer, Desktop or Administrator 10.1.2.2 or previous versions on Windows Vista because of several internal bugs specific to Windows Vista dynamic link libraries (.dlls) and memory pointers.
Discoverer 10.1.2.2 and previous versions will not be certified with Windows Vista.
Discoverer 10.1.2.3 is currently certified with Windows Vista. But currently, we are not recommending Patchset 10.1.2.3 to customers for two primary reasons:
Due to the code freeze time-line of 10.1.2.3, there is a delta between the code corrections/enhancements in Discoverer 10.1.2.2+CP7 and 10.1.2.3. Discoverer Development is currently working on cumulative patch 1 over 10.1.2.3. This note will be updated once it is available.

  • Anyone had any experience with the Samsom C01u?

I've been seeing this microphone about but I'm hearing distressing reports on its compatibility with Macs. Any first-hand users?
    G5 2.3 mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

It's the convenience issue that interests me most. My daughter is a flautist and she likes to record her practice sessions onto her laptop so she may analyze them afterward. Setting up a condenser mic and a preamp and a phantom power source becomes cumbersome (and her mother complains about the spaghetti tangle of cables and interfaces in her practice room/guest room). She'd like something that doesn't require a recording engineer to be on hand. She doesn't want to make professional quality recordings. The quality of the recording should be good enough, however, where it might be used as an audition.

  • Any experiences with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 Wireless printer?

I'm thinking about buying it after reading the XL black ink cartridges yield 2200 pages. It's not an all in one. I don't need it, already have 2 of them. My Epson CX4800 constantly needs to have the print nozzles cleaned and has banding problems. I can clean them, get them clean, then in the middle of a several page job, it starts banding again or loses a color. How are the HP printers with this problem? All the friends homes that I go to that have HPs seem to print much faster than the Epson I have also. Thanks in advance.

  • Has anybody had any problems with the ODBC driver version 10.2.0.2.0?

    Hi,
I have experienced a problem with my current version of the ODBC driver (version 10.1.0.2) and have been advised to upgrade to the newest version 10.2.0.2.0.
As the driver was only released a couple of months ago, I am a bit wary about upgrading. Has anybody out there had any issues with the reliability of this driver or does it seem to be pretty stable?
    Thanks very much,
    Caroline

Sorry, forgot to mention it is on linux.
Setting SetJavaHome in the jdev.conf did not help.
I did find a way to at least start the IDE though.
Either comment out SetJavaVM in the jdev.conf or start jdev with the -client option
    Also to note:
I downloaded the jdk 1.4.2 32 bit for x86 and i can't get jdev to start:

  • Any experience with logitech v400 cordless laser mouse?

I'm still looking for a good mouse, either bluetooth or USB-cordless for my iBook. I recently learnt that Logitech has a new notebook mouse: logitech v400. If anyone has experience with this mouse I would appreciate hearing their findings.
    thanx, Frank
    iMac G5 1800 mHz & iBook 12' (1,33 mHz, 60 GB) Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Nick it's a USB. I have the MX1000. As I told Frank I really don't have any experience with the others so I couldn't really say. I went from the Apple one button to an Microsoft Intellimouse. I realized I liked all those buttons. A lot! So when I decided on getting a wireless I wanted one that had plenty of buttons!
The MX1000 had just came out and was getting real good reviews and I checked one out and liked it so I asked Santa for it last year and I must've been a good boy because my wife.... I mean Santa brought me one.
I would imagine you could check into exactly what feature each one has and find one you like.
I really like the idea of never having to put batteries in it. It charges off the base/receiver. Mine usually lasts about 3 weeks between charges and it takes about 4 hrs to charge it. It has a batter meter on it so I know ahead of time when it's low and I usually just put it in the charger overnight.

  • Any experience with Rocstor RocRaid as external HD solution?

    Hi all,
I have to send my MBP back to Apple to get its fans repaired, and I'm using this as an opportunity to update my backup solution. I've been using a Western Digital MyBook, but it's getting full. Does anyone have experience using the Rocstor RocRaid?

I found a good deal on one at MWave, but I haven't been able to find reliable reviews.
    Thanks!

Hi, does anybody have any experience with the VigiMac software.  It reports it location to a server and you can use this if your MBP is stolen to catch the thief.

  • 5300 RAM showing up as 3200 in Quad, any experience with this problem?

Hello, just received a 2 gig kit for my G5 Quad (2 - 1 gig sticks from Crucial). System Profiler shows it's speed at 3200, lower than the original 512 RAM which is 4200. Crucial says it will only reach 4200, but why is the new RAM showing up at 3200? Tried removing original RAM and only using the new, same speed displayed - 3200.
Has anyone had any experience with this oddity? Any idea if the RAM is not performing or the Mac is not giving accurate speed data?
    Thanks, Steve

Memory identified as PC2600 in MDD
    Symptom
Apple Hardware Test identifies the computer's memory as "PC2600" rather than "PC2700".
    Products affected
    * Power Mac G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors)
    * Apple Hardware Test version 1.2.6
    Solution
There is nothing wrong with your computer's memory. This issue is addressed in Apple Hardware Test 1.2.7. If you have version 1.2.6 and are experiencing this issue, contact AppleCare for a replacement disc.
Apple is aware of that. It first showed up in 10.3.0 and has been there ever since. The issue with the above DDR2 is I think different and unique.
With the MDD, Apple used Micron in the system I got, and I added Crucial. Both show up as '2600.'

The RS480M2-IL haa a CnQ option in Bios.
Installing the AMD driver and setting the Power Scheme to "Minimal Power Management" in Power Options is required to enable CnQ in XP.

  • Is it possible to locate the CD or DVD drive

I was wondering whether it was possible to s it possible to locate the CD or DVD drive with Labview.
My application kinda needs to copy files off the cd drive onto the computer but i don't know how to locate the cd drive
    thanks

I'll add some more information about our problem.  We would like to detect if a particular drive letter is a CD or DVD drive.  The functionality should be similar to the following DriveInfo member in C#.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.io.driveinfo.drivetype.aspx
It can tell if a drive letter is a CDrom, Fixed, Network, Removable, Unknown, etc... drive.
I have searched the Advanced File VIs and Function for suitable functions and the GetVolumeData VI is very close (and we could probably detect drives with no free space).  However, I wonder if there are any other VIs that can help.
    Another example is the following:
