Any features in pages to help protect an e-book
I am going to be selling an e-book and would like to know if Pages or anything on my MacBook Air could be used to protect it. Of course it will be in a PDF format, but I believe there are more ways to futher protect an e-book, i.e. like securing it by restricting copying or modification. I know there is software out there to do this, but I thought maybe there was a feature in Pages that could do something.

In case you are not aware, Apple's iBookstore does not accept pdf, only .epub. But of course there are other places to sell ebooks.

Copying protected aac audio book
Is there any way I can backup a protected aac audio book downloaded from iTunes. I have my music backed up on an external hard drive. I would like to back up my book on a cd if this is at all possible.

daveYou could also just backup onto your external drive along with your music. You'll find then in your iTunes media/music folder in a folder called Audiobooks ( or in iTunes just right click and Reveal in Finder)

My wi-fi connection is enabled, however Safari is telling me the server stopped responding. My laptop is working fine on the same wi-fe network. I have reset the network settings and still Safari will not open any web pages. Help!
Ralph..........Did as you suggested and I am still getting the message "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding". I am not able to connect with anything on the Internet. Frustrating since I am able to connect with my laptop. Thanks for the suggestion.

Pages app unexpectedly quit whilst I was in the middle of a document. I can now not open it AT ALL. I find it's not just that particular document that won't open, but any of my Pages docs will not open using the current version of Pages. The reports of the app unexpectedly closing each time, automatically went to Apple, but I am not sure what happens with them then. Does anyone know how to help me with this? We live in a very isolated region so rely on internet help. Thanks
I also managed to read a few other discussions about Pages and files not being able to open. I actually went to the last back-up and restored the computer from that and everything seemed to work ok again, which is great!...advice from another discussion I think you may have been involved in PeterB. Thanks for the advice...also this advice, as I will make a note of trying to open using the Shift key if it happens again and see what happens...might be an easier first option than restoring from a back-up. Thans heaps for the help!
I was interested to read some of the other discussions where it was stated that Pages '09 seems to be a better option to use. I have both installed, so I will lkeep this in mind. Thanks heaps! -
Any Time I Open iTunes My Computer Comes Up With A Message Saying "Data Execution Prevention - Mircosoft Windows To Help Protect Your Computer, Windows Has Closed This Program" We Have Trend Micro Internet Security Titanium But It Appears To Be Windows Stopping iTunes.
Right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Performance: Settings > Data Execution Prevention > Add iTunes to be let through

Just downloaded OS X Lion. Now, there's no curser bar to scroll up or down for any of the pages I access....if I use the keyboard arrows for up/down, there is a temporary scroll bar, however it disappears after a few moments. Help!!
Go to System Preferences->General. There you can set how you wamt thescrool bars to behave.

hello, I use windows xp, everytime I open itunes, it keeps telling me << to help protect your computer, windows have closed this programme, any idea?
try to select the computer cd/dvd autorun off.
I had the same problem, then Kaspersky software found a conflict suggesting me this solution.
Itunes now works...even if it always asks to set the cd/dvd autorun on when lunched. -
I just recently updated my MacBook Pro to Yosemite 10.10.2
I also updated my "Pages" when asked to.
Now when a open any of my Pages documents, I cannot select/edit any of the objects/images in those documents.
I have gone through the "Pages" help but still cannot solve the problem.
There used to be a "make background objects selectable" button, but I can no longer find it.
I have tried the "arrange tab" > section masters > make master objects selectable, but nothing happened

I checked out your link and I remember the import box popping up when I upgraded from iWork to Pages a few years ago. My problem is with all files (even documents created with "pages" last week. The documents open fine, I just cannot select/edit the objects/images in the background of my documents. Yes, I have tried going through all of the tab menus and layout options and tried "pages" help.
So my problem is that I cannot open documents and adapt them to my next lesson, etc.
Anyone else have any suggestions? -
I have several very important school related documents on my iPad in the Pages app. Ever since i updated to iOS5, i can no longer open any documents in Pages that I made before I updated. Please help
Without the iPad connected, open up iTunes on your computer. Go to iTunes/Preferences/Devices and delete the backups that you're absolutely certain do not have the documents. Refer to figure below.
iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "NO" to creating a backup. (You don't want to create a new backup that does not have the docs.) You will then be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad. This time, say "yes."
Repeat all of the above as required until you get the docs. -
Save as RTF-feature in Pages 09
I work a lot with DEVONthink Pro Office, a tool for ordering, categorizing and searching content (mostly documents for me). Unfortunately, while DTPO shows pages files and can even search them, the integration is not complete and leaves something to be desired.
Working with rtf-files, though, is no problem. Now, when I write in Pages 09, I save my working very often, I usually hit the cmd+s combination on my keyboard after each sentence I write. This, of course, does not work when you want to save as an rtf-file. I have to take the long way of selecting "Export" from the file menu, select "RTF", select location etc. I don't have the foggiest idea why Apple don't just implement a direct "Save-to-RTF" feature in Pages, just as is normal in pretty much all other word processors, but hey, that's just my opinion and, knowing Apple, I do not anticipate any changes soon.
So my question is: Is there some kind of work-around? Some kind of keyboard shortcut? Possibly an automator action?

You mentioned citations, and I use legal citations in footnotes. Well if I export a document in RTF format in Pages and then import back into Pages (or something else, OpenOffice or MSWord) the footnotes are a mess.
Pages does a good job (for me) exporting in .doc format, but it .rtf export function is rather awful (again for me).
If Pages does a good job of exporting documents having footnotes in RTF for you, then I would be curious as to what version of Pages you are using. I am using 4.0.4. -
My Mac Book Pro was really slow at everything and would kick me out of my photos every time i got on them. now it won't even allow me to log on. i put my password in and the screen will flash white and go back to the login page. HELP please...
There is nothing wrong with your Dell, it will work fine with any MacbookPro. I have been using Dell displays for over 12 years with many different Mac models. I have two 21" Ultra Sharp displays working side by side to design a Keynote presentation right now.
The issue your having is with the way Keynote takes control of the video output to both displays, it sends the presentation signal to one and the presenter display to the other, this is set up in;
Keynote preferences > Presenter display.
If you want to show a wesite or another app on either display, use application switcher:
press the the command key on the keyboard, then the tab key; a row of applications will show what applications are running, choose which one you want to show. Use command > tab to return to Keynote. -

We are unable to open a Pages 5.0.1 document in Pages 4.2 and retain ability to edit all aspects of the document. I have tried saving the 5.0.1 version in Pages '09 but am still unable to open it in the earlier version of pages. Help?
No, it isn't. Pages 5 isn't compatible with Pages 4.3 as it is lacking more than 90 features that Pages 4 has. So when you open a Pages 4 document in Pages 5 only the simplest documents will look the same in Pages 5.
Pages 4 can't open Pages 5 documents at all!! You have to export back to Pages 09 as I said above.
You probably will be more happy if you just use Pages 4 (Pages 09). There are many threads in this forum that describes the lack of compatibility between the two versions. Pages 5 is in my view not Pages anymore.
If you don't desperately need Pages 5 for moving documents over iCloud to new iOs devices don't use it. -

If you do - you could create a Details B section that is suppressed except for on Record N (where N is a counter, and N is the last Detail record that will show up on a page).
The Page footer is indeed built so that it will be rendered at the bottom of your physical page of paper.
