about a year or more ago, fcp offered a big-time discount deal (minus the manuals) to upgrade to Apple Final Cut Studio 5.1.4.
does anyone know if there such a deal to upgrade to fcp 2 now? i think the current upgrade price
is $99.

The special offer you're referring to was Apple's one-time deal to 'crossgrade' to the universal version (FCP 5.1) - so called due to the fact that it was compatible with the PPC chipped Macs as well as their brand new (at the time) IntelMacs.
Unless Apple makes a major change in processors again, I would NOT expect to see that kind of special offer repeated.

Will ANY Final Cut Studio serial suffice??

Hi, I have Final Cut Studio 3, 2 and 1. I recently moved to a new machine and of course I lost my previous (final cut studio 2) serial, which I am prompted for when installing version 3. I cannot find it anywhere and fear that I may have to purchase a copy second hand, if that will work. That is my question, If I get a full retail Final Cut studio 2 and use it's serial with my FCS 3 install, will it be enough?

You can use the upgrade version of FCP 7, as long as you have an older full version...it'll ask for that full version's serial number

Image Chnages Hue when loaded into any Final Cut Studio Program.

I am having problems with the coloring of this image.
I has been giving me problems for like 2 hours now.
I wanted to do all the photoshop work at home before work but every way i convert it. (TIF, JPG, RAW, PSD)
I will open it in normal photo programs it looks fine, but when I
open it in any program associated with finalcut it changes the hue of
the image.
The forest green becomes almost black, and the lime green becomes
neon toxic green.
It weird.
It happens on both of my computers.
Any Suggestions.

Photo data needs a color profile designated for the program to interpret and display the color space information accurately on the screen. It sounds like the color profile you are using in Photoshop is not the one being used in FCP.
In Photoshop,
Make sure the images are RGB (not CMYK).
See what color profile is attached to the image. On the menu bar: Photoshop>Color Settings
What's the Working Spaces RGB color profile? Something like Adobe RGB 1998 yields consistent results.

Who has Final Cut Studio 2 working perfectly?

Does anyone here have Final Cut Studio 2 working perfectly across the board? Meaning..All the effects, sound loops, templates, media...etc all show up with no problems except the occasional crash here and there.
I am about to reinstall the OSX from scratch to install Final Cut Studio properly. Also....I plan to install all of the option media on a seperate hard drive.
Any suggestions? Advice?

For starters, I know its an error on my part. I am not talking about isntalling an upgrade. I recenlty brought Final Cut 2 academic. I know Final Cut Studio when it comes to the actual editing process, I just need help with the installation process.
My Final Cut Studio is is still very very usable...I prodcued an entire pageant with it. I just want it to work perfectly. In Motion...some of the media is missing, in soundtrack, some of the music files are missing.
When I installed updates for Final Cut and Motion.....motion started crashing and certain effects stopped showing up in Final Cut. I solved the Fianl Cut Problem, but still have hte missing media problem in motion.
Also, I installed all the optional media on my internal hard drive. 120 to be exact. Now I am down to 2 gig of space.
I am goign to buy a portable hard drive and store the optional media on there along with video, render files, etc.
What I am asking is....for the people who have Final Cut Studio 2 working properly...can you guys tell if you installed any final cut studio updates...if so which ones....also, what version of the OSX are you guys running.
I am really not frustrated are mad....I know it's error on my part....now....I am trying to get it right.

Does any version of Final Cut studio support Mpeg4 Editing?

I have Final Cut Studio HD (version in the black box). I'm looking at buying a camera, and the one that seems to be the best fit is the Panasonic TM90. It's best mode is shooting progressive video with the Mpeg4 codec. Does my version support this? Does any version support this?

If you shoot any format OTHER than 1080p60, you use Log and Transfer to bring in the footage. Tutorial:

For 1080p60, you need ClipWrap2 from divergentmedia.com. Because it is a non-standard shooting format.
And no, FCP 7 and earlier do not support editing from that camera without transcoding to ProRes.

Can't launch ANY of the Final Cut Studio apps

As some of you may have seen, when I was reinstalling all of my old software, I couldn't go to FCP 6.0.4. So I uninstalled Final Cut Studio and got rid of everything the Final cut studio uninstaller didn't get rid of (live type data, etc)
Then I updated to 10.5.5
Then I reinstalled Final Cut Studio and ran software update. Everything updated fine and then I went to launch the programs for the first time and ALL of them say they unexpectedly quit. Should I have launched them once before updating? I DO have all the up-to-date versions this time, but I can't open any of them. I'd hate to have to reinstall all this AGAIN as it takes forever to do so.
Anyone know how to fix this?

This is what the console is telling me. I had used the Final Cut Studio uninstaller before reinstalling. My copy is an upgrade version, but everything installed and updated OK. They just won't launch

Final Cut Studio 7 on iMac i5 or i7 = any real performance differencies?

I'm in for an iMac i5 for use with Final Cut Studio.
Footage is SD (DVCPRO50) and, soon, 720pN25 over DVCPRO HD.
Will the i7 give noticeable better rendering time and overall better performance than the i5? There'll be 8 GB RAM (for a start).

Well yeah, Final Cut itself won't be faster, but you CAN use Compressor to use all of the cores, or even better, have compressor use some of them while you keep working!
Other apps like Cinema 4D, After Effects etc can also use all of the cores. 64-bit will be the next step for the big apps, and don't discount the utilization of GPUs either - that's making a lot of progress as well (and offers big performance gains - I remember my first lesson in this back when Magic Bullet started using GPU acceleration... what were tediously slow plugins became bearable).

My Final Cut Studio Box disc package Icon disc will not load, kicked out by MAcBook...any advice...disc player works nothing wrong with it.

My Apple Mac Harddrive went for a real bust up about a month before my warenty expired...Apple repaired no problem...I had exstended warrenty...
but when the computer came back it was not the same...
I also did not have time untill now to start sorting through the mess, one of the things I am sorting.... is to get my Final Cut Studio Pro 7 up and running...
I bought the disk set (box) with the lap top, back when I first bought my MacBookPro, everything together ......I loaded the disks package onto the computer back then no problem and have had the disk in a cuboard since then.....
I tried to reload the package onto my computer but the first disc....the ICON disc just keeps getting kicked out....
without it I cannot load my Final Cut Package....
What should I do?

the disc version (Final Cut Studio Pro7) that was sold as a box set with everything included (motion/color and so on) is not realy supported by the newer Apple's as you now have to buy Final Cut X Online, download and pay for everything seprately.
It's true that Apple stopped supporting Final Cut Studio applications, but I don't know any reason why they shouldn't install and function with newer OS versions and Macs (as long as a working DVD drive can be connected).

ANY luck with final cut studio 5 and quickktime 7?

what is the deal with quicktime 7? I am constantly reading about problems with it. I want to upgrade to Final Cut Pro 5 and quicktime 7, but am afraid to because of all the issues Ive been reading about. There are many different issues... but the common denominator is that they all seem to be related to quicktime 7.
Here is my question:
Is ANYONE out there running final cut studio with the latest version of quicktime 7 with NO Problems? If i get enough yes answers, I may just go ahead and upgrade. If not, Im definitley going to wait until these problems are fixed, or for the next versions to come out. Thanks in advance...

i know that fcp 5 requires quicktime 7...right now i have final cut 4.5 hd with quicktime 6.5.2......im just trying to get an idea of how many people have final cut 5 with quictime 7 with no problems, and how many may be having problems. Is it unlawful to sell my used final cut studio version 3 software?

eBay heavily "overprotects" copyright owners.
The BSA is hired by Apple to look out for copyright violations. They simply go after everything without any investigation. eBay plays along and so you are the one with the problem to do something completely lega.
Here is the relevant section of FCS's SLA:
3. Transfer. You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense the Apple Software. You may, however, make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple Software to another party, provided that: (a) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its component parts, original media, printed materials and this License; (b) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (c) the party receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this License. 1. There are academic discounts directly from Apple - though I do not know how it will work outside of the US. Google Apple Education and go to the education portion of the apple website.
2&3. You can not purchase any of the applications independently from the whole Studio package or get a reduced price because you will not use one or two of them.
Final Cut Express has a great deal of the functionality of Final Cut Pro but it will work only with DV and HDV video. It does not work with non-standard image sizes/codecs.

Final Cut Studio Final Cut Studio 2 Upgrade

Thirteen days ago I placed an order for Final Cut Studio (along with a new MacBook Pro and other accessories costing a total of $4,500 with an education discount). I received the products 7 days ago and sometime this week Final Cut Studio 2 is released. Does anyone know how to get this upgraded? I am sure that considering the small time frame and amount of the purchase (not including the Quad-Core G5 I purchased within the past 18 months, nor the 3 other laptops or countless other desktops my family and I have purchased over the years) that this falls under some kind of Upgrade Protection or something. I called the Apple Store Support number tonight (the 20th) before they closed and was simply told, "I am sorry for the inconvenience, but I can offer you $50 off of the upgrade." Does that even make sense?! Any ideas or suggestions would be great. I'm kind of bummed that a company my family has faithfully supported since it's beginning would shut someone out in a situation like this. Not to mention that the high marks Apple has always received in Customer Satisfaction/Support surveys are most definitely not being reflected here. I hate to say it, but I'm quite confident that not taking care of a customer in this instance is going to cause a loss of an entire family's continued support of the company. Again, though, any ideas you all can give me to help with this situation would be greatly appreciated!

We have 36 educational licenses of complete Final Cut Studio 3.0 (Final Cut Pro 7 with its components) since Apple have gone to the new version, can we upgrade this software from FCP 7 to FCP X? for our collage? or there is NO update path and we need to purchase FCP X a fresh? will FCP 7 work with Lion OS 10.7.X? lastly is there any educational discount for FCP X?

Can I upgrade to Final Cut Studio 7 if my last version is also an upgrade??

I upgraded to Final Cut Pro 4.5 with a version that was for upgrading to FCP 4 from either version 1, 2 or 3.
I no longer have the previous version, just the FCP 4 box/discs and the "upgrade" authorization code on the sticker it came on.
I see that there's an upgrade to Final Cut Studio 7 for around $300 from any previous non-academic version...but what about if the last version is an upgrade too?? It IS the FULL FCP 4.5.
Am I eligible for this discounted upgrade to FC Studio 7? Has anyone done exactly this?

Is it possible to extract from the app/computer the original Retail Serial Number?
With my Final Cut Express 4.0.1 I simply go to HD>Library>Application Support>ProApps and open the FCE System ID in TextEdit in order to have my original FCE 1.0.1 revealed. (The upgrade number of course is displayed on the splash screen and also "About FCE").
However, opening the FCS System ID or the ProAppsSystemID does not reveal any serial number . . . . though my FCS3 is a Full Retail Version. Maybe if it was an upgrade, it might?
Being able to access and save the original reg would be useful for anyone who has lost it since upgrading.
It must be stored somewhere, unless when it was originally installed the computer just registered that it had a suitable number and did not save the specific one.

Any final cut studio 2 discounts?
