ANY IDEAS? can't read Leopard HDV QT on Tiger system

I'm trying to play a QT made in Leopard on a different computer with a Tiger OS (G5, dual 2.0 processors, ver.10.4.9), and it won't open or play. It shows up as a blank page rather than the QT icon on the Tiger system, but shows as a QT on the Leopard. I want the Tiger system to read the media because it is going into ProTools for mixing. (I think that ProTools/DigiDesign doesn't have a version for Leopard yet...)
Anyone have ideas as to how to down-convert or otherwise translate, so that my media can get into Tiger/ProTools?
BTW, I can't make the QT in Tiger because the original media is HDV, and my Final Cut Pro HD program on my older Tiger computer won't read HDV; only the new Final Cut Studio 2 on the Leopard will read HDV format. HMMMMMM........

sounds like the G5 doesn't support HDV... it's because the codec for it isn't installed on that computer. I'm presuming the QT you are trying to play is HDV, right? A white screen shows up? If so I'm pretty sure I'm right about the problem. Not sure if you can just copy the HDV codec from one computer to the other, but might be worth a try.

  • WebDynpro 4 Java & Persistence options : Any Idea how 2 read an XML?

    Hi,
    I was wondering if there is an easy way to store modified (or new) values in a WebDynpro application.
    e.g. A User adds a new row to an existing Table UI in Web Dynpro application with create button. I want to save this row either in an XML file, in a table connecting to database or in an ABAP table via RFC connection. Which option is a light (on resources?) and easy to implement. I think it's reading and writing to an XML file. What are the other options, if any?
    I've been trying to read an xml file (stored under src/mimes/Components/<com.sap.myComp>/test.xml as below:
    //controller code
    private static final String FILE_NAME = "test.xml";
    private static final WDWebResourceType FILE_EXT = WDWebResourceType.XML;
    IWDResource resource = WDWebResource.getWebResource(wdComponentAPI.getDeployableObjectPart(), EditView.FILE_EXT, EditView.FILE_NAME);
    wdContext.currentContextElement().setFile(resource);
    //end controller code
    //view Init() code
    IWDResource resource = wdContext.currentContextElement().getFile();
    File file = new File(resource.getResourceName().toString());
    /* I've also tried below
            FileInputStream fis = null;
         fis = new FileInputStream(file);
            url = file.getAbsolutePath();
            //url is null when printed?
    DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document doc = db.parse(file);
    doc.getDocumentElement().normalize();
    content = doc.getDocumentElement().getNodeName().toString();
    //end view Init() code
    When I print the value of content, I get it's initial value which is null. What is wrong?? any ideas?
    How to get the correct path to the stored xml and how to display its contents? I've read enough posts on SDN but couldn't get it working.
    Appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    N.

    hi,
    U r retriving the elements by tag name.So it just chks the tag name ie.<book> & gives u array of elements.But u need retrive d attribute of <book> tag itself.
    =Solution =====
    Add one more statement ----> var[]= doc.getElementsByName("book");
    Now u hav book elements as an array & can retrive id in for loop
    for(var; var.length;var++)
    doc.element[var].id.value

  • Bought snow leopard 10.6.3.( mac intel i3) having problems installing product. after 15mins computer freezes any ideas?, bought snow leopard 10.6.3.( mac intel i3) having problems installing product. after 15mins computer freezes any ideas?

    Hi recently bought snow leopard 10.6.3. Having problems installing. My i Mac has intel i3 and system 10.6.8 . After about 15mins the computer restarts but freezes with apple logo. Any ideas? thanks alan

    Yes, 10.6.8 update was specifically to ease the Lion installation (apart from some security updates).
    Juat log onto the App Store (Icon would be in the Dock by default) and find the download. If you're not already registered with App Store, you'll need credit card info to hand, and your Apple ID (the one you use to log in here or the iTunes Store if you use it).
    You would only need the retail SL disc if you were running 10.5.8 (Leopard) or earlier.

  • Can't read old mail after new Tiger install

    I recently installed Tiger (and archived my old system) as an upgrade from 10.3.9. Since then, I can't read old messages in Mail. The original messages are deleted from my isp server once the messages are downloaded by Mail. When I open any message in Mail received before I insttalled Tiger I see, where one would normally see the body of the message, the following:
    "The message from [email protected] concerning “Your receipt from Apple Store, xxxxx” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
    When I attempt to reply to one of these messages, I can't type anything into the body of the message.
    I am online when this happens. I see no "icons" (ie an lightening bolt) next to my inbox; everything appears to be normal. I, also, have approximately 20 gb of free space on my hard drive.
    Any suggestions as to how I might retrieve or open old messages? Thanks.

    The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
    Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
    More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problem. A similar procedure should allow you to fix other mailboxes that might also be affected:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
    5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
    6. Move any strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
    7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
    The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
    8. Open Mail.
    9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
    10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop.
    As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated now. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
    Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you want and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
    If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
    Take a look at the following article (also referenced in the thread I mentioned at the beginning of this post) to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
    Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
    Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Can't Install Leopard, Won't Recognize Tiger

    Hi - I want to install Leopard on an iMac currently running the latest edition of Tiger (10.4.11 or so?). It meets all of Leopard's tech requirements as well. However, when I begin the process, the Leopard install system says it can't install on my iMac because I'm NOT running Tiger.
    This is incorrect - in fact, the iMac came with Tiger pre-installed, and that's the only OS it's ever run. How can I convince the Leopard install disc of this fact? I don't see any options for communication besides the "OK" button. It's doubly frustrating because when it then tells me I have to restart, and asks which disk to boot from, it shows my iMac RUNNING TIGER as one of the options.
    Is there a way to tell the Leopard OS disk that I DO in fact have Tiger currently installed?
    Thanks in advance -

    I'm most confused - not hard to do on a weekend morning with only one cup of coffee. If you have the retail Leopard installer it doesn't matter what version of OS X your iMac has. I used the same disk to install Leopard on top of 10.3 and 10.4 so something weird is going on. BTW, BootCamp should have nothing to do with it - my own computers had BootCamp beta when I upgraded to Leopard.
    What kind of upgrade are you attempting? Archive & Install or Erase and Install? If you are attempting the A&I what the installer might really be trying to tell you is that there's not enough disk space to perform that installation. Then again, I know that Leopard's installer is able to give that error message properly. The installer might be coming across a weird error when it is checking the drive so run Disk Utility and make sure the drive doesn't need to be repaired.

  • Where can I get Leopard if I have Tiger?

    Hello,
    Just got myself a new Mac. First one ever.
    I have Mac OS X 10.4.10 pre-installed and the center I purchased my Mac said I can get on apple.com and get the new OS (Leopard) for 85kr (Im in Sweden btw). Is this true? I checked online and I wasn't able to find where. Could I also buy it at a Mac reseller store for a cheaper price or do I have to pay the full fee for the new OS?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    The Apple Up-to-Date program enables people who purchased a Mac after October 1, 2007, to upgrade to Leopard for just the cost of shipping the Leopard disc. You can find the Swedish version of this page at http://www.apple.com/se/macosx/uptodate/
    Hope that helps

  • I can't read length of BFile (Error: The system cannot find the file specified.)

    I have created a directory with the following instruction:
    create or replace directory PRUEBA_DIR ace ' F:\PRUEBA
    This does not throw probnlemas to me, but when obtaining the length of the file exists problems
    , and it does not find the file, is possible to mention that this does not happen in the servant, single from a client.
    Ademas assumes that when using BFile It had to copy the file to the directory defined as so, thing that does not happen.

    Snow Leopard requires an Intel-based Mac, so as Niel indicated your iMac G5 cannot run it. The last version of Mac OS X your iMac G5 can run is Mac OS X 10.5.8.

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Suddenly can't play video on ipod but everything else works. Any ideas??

    Strange. I reset my ipod classic 80 GB several times but still nada. The window display is fine for all my music but when I press to play a movie or video the screen goes black and doesn't shut down. When I connect the ipod to my XP computer, and play the videos from my ipod onto quicktime, they play. But disconnect and try to watch from the ipod screen and nothing. They worked before just fine.
    Any ideas what's up?

    Thanks for the reply. The videos are MPEG 4 and where converted for ipod. I've used them on my ipod for a half year and all has been fine. The other day I loaded some podcasts into my ipod including some video podcasts and then when I went to watch the screen goes black but is still on. The only thing I can do is reset my ipod to turn it on. If I only listen to music or audio podcasts then everything is fine. Pictures are fine too.
    I got fed up and finally did a Restore. It still does the exact same thing. Music is all good but the videos don't work. Not even video podcasts. The ipod freezes and requires a reset to boot it up again. Really strange.
    Any ideas??

    What is the default key command for THE COMMAND (apple) key? I seem to have changed it somehow along the way and now when I push the command key (only) it hides all open windows and shows the desk top and when I push it again it shows all windows again...I need to return to default A.S.A.P. just this one key...Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

    Go to
     > System Preferences > Keyboard
    Click on the 'Keyboard' tab and hit the 'modifier keys...' button. You can see and change the defaults there.
    As I'm not sure if all the labels are the same in Lion, he's a screenshot from Snow Leopard. It should be similar enough:

    I've just bought a MacBook Pro The system won't recognise the serial number which I've copied very carefully several times from the underside of the computer
    The helpline is closed Any ideas? I don't know what the operating system is - how do I find that out?

    What are you trying to do?
    The operating system can be found by going to the Apple menu and selecting "About this Mac"
    Under "Mac OS X" should be the Version 10.6.x, clicking Software Update will update the operating system via the internet.

    I have recently upgraded my iPhone 4 to OS 4.2.9.  After plugging in headphones, I can't get the speakers to work.  I have read a few articles online that suggest inserting and removing the headphone plug into the jack, but this hasn't worked.  Any ideas?

    Just read another article that suggested blowing compressed air in the port.  After trying this, the speakers were working again.
