ok basically what I did:
I migrated from Snow Leopard to Snow Leopard Server
and then I painstakingly migrated back to (fully updated) Snow Leopard after I realized what a tremendous ram hog Server is.
The migration back produced a number of strange console artifacts that didn't exist prior to Snow Leopard Server.
With your tips, I've managed to hunt down various solutions to repair and/or replace a lot of files that had their permissions corrupted by the manual migration.
The system seems very stable even though I continue to see a lot of messages like this:

and there were and have been problems with any two nvidia cards which was the main part of my question.

I have an email account causes the machine to hang up after being in use for a day.  It only occurs on my Macbook Pro and only one particular account.  The problem account works fine on my iMac and Windows Machines.  I have been to the local Genius bar and through trial and error we have determined that Mail is working ok but somehow the account is causing the problem.  I have used this account for years.  Any ideas what is causing this?

No idea why, but one thing you may try if you have the time, is create a new user, and set up the problem mail account in the new user space. See if it causes your MBP to hang as well.  That will tell you if it is something wrong with your main User, or something wrong with MBP.
Assuming this works, I'd nuke the problem account in your main user space, re-start, and reinititate the account and see if that helps.
Depening on how many email accounts you have setup, it may be necessary to nuke the whole Mail folder in your User/Library....   Hard way to get it to work, but just my idea.

  • Any Idea what is causing this?

I have posted this in another forum but no response yet..
I have 2 G4 933's a G4 powerbook and G5 DC 2.3. I am trying to connect to the G5 from the others via a Linksys WAG54G router. I have done this many times. Recently I reconfigured my network from DHCP to manual as I use one G4 as a FTP server and was told that this is the better way. I have connected to the G5 since doing this change.
I can connect fromthe G5 to the G4s but not the other way around. I get to the point where I am asked to select the volume I wish to mount, at which point it all goes bad, the spinning beach ball appears and eventually I get a message that there was a server interuption and the "volume" has been disconnected.
It is at this point that I can actually watch the Personal File Sharing tick box in the Services panel, untick itself, regardless of the fact that I have locked it to prevent changes.
I would appear that this issue is happen from the G5 as I can not connect from 3 different G4s.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks
    Craig

I think (not at that computer at the moment) that the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, and the firewall settings are the same on the G5 as the G4 and either way, I have tried with it switched off and get the same result.

  • Sudden total boot failure. Any idea what would cause this??

Today I was adding more apps to my clean install (on an external drive) and I had to go back to my original "update" installation to get a password off Keychain (I did not migrate). After I got the pw, I shutdown and my Powerbook would not reboot! I got the chime and then utter blackness. No disk access was attempted on my external, nothing from internal drive, and still nothing when I tried the Leopard installation DVD.
I kept trying and finally (after 10-15 minutes of getting nothing except the initial startup sound) the screen lit up and I got to the Startup Manager disk selection. I was still unable to boot from the DVD; the boot sequence had progressed only part way and then totally stalled (I gave it about 3 times as long as it would normally take to boot from a CD or DVD). I tried this twice more so I thought I had suffered catastrophic hardware failure.
But, then, after a pram reset, I was able to restart into single-user mode and did a couple of the fsck's (file-system check in Unix) and it said the internal disk was OK both times. Got through login and to the Finder Desktop after a regular boot, and after a safe boot, but found that the Finder was corrupted and repeatedly crashed with almost everything I tried to do.
Reluctantly then tried to boot from external drive and found that - it worked!
Tried to fix internal drive unsuccessfully. Eventually found that DVD drive was working again too, so I did a Time Machine restore of the internal drive after booting from the Leopard install disk.
After getting the internal drive to boot again (Time Machine worked!!), the Wacom tablet driver immediately crashed (even though I had supposedly loaded a Leopard-compatible version), so I then went to Terminal and got rid of all the StartupItems and PreferencePanes in the root Library and my user Library. I tried rebooting and since it did so without issue this time, I hooked up Time Machine and made a new backup.
How did the total boot failure get caused? I had never seen anything like this before where the screen stayed totally black and not even the DVD would boot.
I am now back to "normal" after 7 hours. Moral of the story is that even when your computer looks completely dead, keep trying. I just hope it doesn't happen again, since I'm not sure what the issue was.

Faulty battery. Make Genius reservation and take this iPhone back.

  • I'm trying to download the latest version of iTunes.  I get an "SoftwareUpdate.exe - Entry Point Not Found error".  Any idea what might cause this?

THe error box says procedure entry point not found....then a string of code that "could not be located in the SoftwareUpdateFiles.dll".
I'm try to update my software so I can sync my iPhone with my current iTunes library.
    any help greatly appreciated.

Let's first try a repair install of your Apple Software Update.
In your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select Apple Software Update, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does the repair go through okay? If so, try another iTunes update. Does it install properly this time?

  • My firefox crashed when I was on Facebook and now facebook won't load up right while on Firefox but will on Internet Explorer, any ideas what would cause this?

Facebook loads but the page is all messed up and can't click on the stuff in the right place. It loads up fine on Internet Explorer.

This is probably some corruption in the settings file that stores the on-screen position of the Firefox window. Could you try the steps in this thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/980358 opens off monitor screen]. Any luck?

  • Time Capsule Hard Disk Disappears from Windows 7 PC without changing anything on the PC, then reappears for no reason. Any Ideas what would cause this?

Now spent hours trying to fix this problem. I am using a disk password, When I go into the explorer, around 1/4 of the time the timecapsule appears in the browse, and the other 3/4's it can not be found. I can leave the pc, then come back after a while and the disk is back.

i'd also like to add that the time capsule is still recognised on the mac partition of my macbook pro, and also both mac and windows xp (as a network drive) on my iMac!

Do you ave ad-blocking software or use an extension like Adblock Plus?
If a link has '''ads''' (uplo'''ads''') in the file path then that is the first to check.

I have just read your thread and will respond more fully after you have read through the link provided in this thread. Right now I want to point out where I do not agree especially with SG's "The text can only be one line long" when it comes to the Premiere Elements Titler Text Animation Feature. Not so.
For starters, please check out my blog post on the Premiere Elements Titler Text Animations and a sampling of some of the text animation effects that can be achieved in the Premiere Elements Titler Text Animation feature.

  • Every time I compress a file over 1.5 Gigs it ends up corrupt any idea what the cause is?

Every time I compress a file over 1.5 Gigs it ends up corrupt any idea what the cause is?

Compression depends on repetativeness of characters within the file.  If it can't map those, it won't compress.   Images and programs are much harder to compress for that reason, as they both are basically binary constructs.  Some image software compresses looking at common lines and points of the same color.   Audio files look for the same frequency. Most video formats are already compressed to some extent except full DV.
And files with DRM get even more dicy, since you really can't bypass the DRM which itself is binary code, not to mention not allowed to be copied.   This forum can't discuss such issues due to the DMCA rules.  As long as it isn't copyright, what are you trying to compress?

Try another browser such a Safari. If you get the same issue then it's probably the site, if it works OK on another browser then it's probably Chrome and you should re-post on a Chrome forum discussion board.

  • Any idea what could cause new br tags to get added to the rendered code?

The following happens. I am defaulted to the Credit Card radio button. I decide I want to click the PayPal radio button. I again decide to click the Credit Card radio button. At that very moment 2 extra break tags are inserted right below this intended br element. They are just two plain br tags with no style or class.
<br class="clear_line" style="margin-bottom: 25px;" /> What could be causing this? This is a JSF, SEAM RichFaces application. I should add the inserted br tags look like <br> so they would not pass the xhtml requirements of facelets.
