  • What's the impact to the users when AD RMS DB goes down

I did a quick test for the impacts to user when AD RMS DB goes down:
if the unread email sent before DB goes down, it is readable
if the unread email sent after DB goes down, it is unreadable
I understood that Exchange pre-licensing won't work when DB goes down, can user connect to RMS directly to grab the license since RMS server is still up?

    Hi Jason -
It's based on deployment experience and documentation.  Our team has been involved in any RMS deployment projects and has helped created Microsoft AD RMS trainings.  If you are looking for some specific document, I'll point you to this blog post
    here:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/rms/archive/2012/04/16/ad-rms-redundancy-and-fault-tolerance-part-1.aspx
Enrique does an excellent job covering the different components in the AD RMS infrastructure, how to make them fault tolerant, and the ramifications of not implementing high availability.
    I hope that helps!

  • Allow other users when upgrading from version 8 to 9

When I originally installed Parallels 8 I did not allow access to Windows to other users on my iMac.  I am now upgrading to Parallels 9 and want to enable another user on my computer to access my Windows programs.  Will I be prompted to allow other users when I install the Parallels 9 upgrade or will I have to go into Parallels 9 later to allow this.  If I have to go in later, how do i do it.

You might want to ask in the Parallels forum as to how Parallels 9 works. http://forum.parallels.com/forum.php

Both Windows 2003 Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition are certified platforms for Oracle 10g Rel. 2.
I can see you are currently working with patchset 10.2.0.2.0. You didn't mention if you are planning to upgrade to 10.2.0.3.0 but if you are willing to do so, there are several issues reported by the oracle community, I have included verbatim transcripts from the referred sites, just to name a few:
    http://www.pythian.com/blogs/356/oracle-10203-patchset-known-issues-and-bugs
Other platforms to watch out with 10.2.0.3 patchset are Windows and Linux 32 bit - Metalink Note 403616.1 “Many Child Cursors create in 10.2.0.3 on Windows and Linux”. This will likely affect applications with heavy usage of bind variables (perhaps, ones with cursor_sharing=force/similar as well) and busy OLTP is a good candidate. See for yourself the note I mentioned above - it describes some symptoms and consequences (latch contention, ORA-4031, ORA-600) pretty well. The good news is that Linux platform has one-off patch available already - patch 5705795.

    Oracle 10.2.0.3 patchset is out
    December 5th, 2006 - by Marc Fielding
My colleague Vamsi Chikkam noticed that the Oracle 10.2.0.3 patchset has been released for Linux and Windows 32-bit. The major bugfixes are the same as my original post with a few additions:
    * Identical SQL run in different schemas may modify the wrong schema’s tables (bug 5458753)… we have run into this problem at a client site and it’s not pretty. Workarounds include qualifying schema names in SQL and one-off patches for 10.2.0.2. MetaLink note 329673.1 has more details.
    * When cursors are being reloaded frequently in the shared pool, PLS-306/ORA-1722/ORA-1858 errors can occur (bug 4752541)
    * Under Windows platforms, triggers referencing :NEW/:OLD using NCHAR/NVARCHAR character sets can error out (bug 5388136)
    * The same issue as bug 5388136 above also causes compilation errors on 10.2.0.2 databases upgraded from previous releases under Windows(bug 5383828)

Such data must be corrected BEFORE installing a Patch Set into your Oracle Database. The instructions to detect and correct affected data prior to installing Patch Set are documented in MetaLink (for more information, see MetaLink [1]Note ID # 359145.1).

After Upgrade you prepare some test scenarios and execute them in Dev ..  below are few checks that you can perform
    - Run Process chain for test loads
-Create Infoarea / Info catalog / IO / DSO / Cube / DS flat file / Transformations / MP / Infoset / Write Opt. DSO .. entire flow and load to make sure everything is OK
-Also check the existing flows if they are any Inactive ?
    -Execute queries
-Prepare test case for all day to day activities

  • Error during installation phase when upgrading  from oracle 10 to 11g

    hi,
We have going to upgrade oracle 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.3 in SAP ECC 6.4(DB:oracle, OS:AIX6.1). By mistake I run RUNINSTALLER from wrong path oracle/stage/11203 <dump folder>/database instead of SAP folder.it gives some error message during installation but i continue to installation and installation is completed.
now i worried about error and and wrong path selection, i removed manually new oracle home folder 112_64 and continue to new installation from proper path but now i am getting below error when running RUNINSTALLER from SAP folder
"[INS-10008] Session Initialization failed".and log are  as

  • How to not upgrade clusterware 10203 when upgrading another oracle home

    Hello,
We have a 4 node rac 10.2.0.3 and 10.2.0.3 clusterware on red hat 4. We want to install a new none-rac home on one of the nodes and patch that new none-rac home to 10.2.0.4. But if we install and patch the new 10.2.0.4, what happen to the clusterware already running on the 4 rac-node? What we want is to avoid upgrading the clusterware 10.2.0.3. We just want to install a new none-rac on one of the nodes and not touch the clusterware that is already running for the rac-node, 10.2.03. My question is, when installing a new separate none-rac oracle home 10.2.0.4 on RAC, does the new none-rac detect the clusterware 10.2.0.3? If so, what to do so the clusterware 10.2.0.3 is untouched when installing a 10.2.0.4 new none-rac oracle home? Thank you.

As long as you choose a different path name for your new 10.2.0.4 oraclehome, there is no problem. ;)
does the new none-rac detect the clusterware 10.2.0.3?Not if it's NON RAC!

From the trace files, we see that the issue is with the seeded view, mrp_item_sourcing_levels_v.
Need pointers for fixing the performance.

The ETRM says this about the view:
***** Warning: Oracle Internal Use Only *****
Oracle Corporation does not support access to Oracle
applications data using this object, except from standard Oracle Applications programs.
which is a powerful suggestion that you should not be addressing this view directly. Looking at the source code for the view, it has a bunch of UNIONs that may prevent view merging, and all the queries have loads of hints coded within them. So really, there is little you can do about this.
It looks pretty simple to re-write your query to avoid addressing this view, you are using it only to retrieve a couple of columns. If you look at the source code for the view you'll see that you can get them easily without going through the view.

  • What is the impact on database transaction when migrating oracle9i to 11g?

What is the impact in JDBC classes when migration of oracle 9i to 11g is done?
Will there in problem with connection and transactions? Do we have to modify the classes or include new jars ?

    dull_duke_java wrote:
What is the impact in JDBC classes when migration of oracle 9i to 11g is done?I would say nothing unless someone did something horribly wrong in the first place. But if such did occur then it would be in the SQL.
Certainly one possibility would be if "select *" was used and there was a presumption of what order columns were returned in regards to that.
Will there in problem with connection and transactions? Meaning what exactly? If you attempt a migration also servicing new requests then any impact depends on how and what the migration does.
Do we have to modify the classes or include new jars ?If you want a new driver then you would need a new jar.

    Hi,
I want to upgrade my database from version 8 to version 10g.
    My question is:
    1) Can i upgrade from oracle 8 to 10g directly? OR need to upgrade to 9i before upgrading to 10g.
    2) Is DBUA the right tool for the upgradation?
    Hoping for a healthy response,
    Thank You and Best Regards

    Please read
Oracle Database Upgrade Path Reference List [ID 730365.1]
    1. Yes you can directly upgrade...
    2. DBUA is good but i would recommend you to go for manual upgrade because you will have more understanding what is happening :)
    Upgrade Path
    8.1.7.X.X TO 10.2.0.4.0
    1. Install 10.2.0.1.0 software
    2. Install the 10.2.0.4.0 patchset on top of the existing 10.2.0.1.0 ORACLE_HOME
    Patchset number is : 6810189
