Any indication how Mountain Lion might work with the Quicken for Lion "patch"?

After the disaster getting Quicken for Mac 2007 (or earlier) to sort-of work on Lion, has anyone checked if the Lion Compatible Quicken for Mac works on the new Mountain Lion operating system?
Even though this isn't an Apple problem, I know I'm not the only person who would love to update to a new Mac; however, they all come with Mountain Lion, and many of us are terrified of losing financial data if there's another snafu.

As of this writing, roaring apps shows only a question mark re Quicken 2007 for Mac and Mountain Lion. All of us ******* for a new Mac will need to wait and see... There are no problems noted for QuickBooks or Quicken (so-called) Essentials -- a misnomer if ever there were one.

How well does GarageBand work with the MB Air or the MB Pro 13"?

Greetings, everyone! I'd considering purchasing my first Apple computer -- to become more familiar with OSX (professionally) and to use GarageBand with my MIDI-compatible electronic keyboard (personally).
I'm having trouble deciding which laptop to buy--the Macbook Air or the Macbook Pro (probably the 13" -- I'm having a lot of trouble justifying the price jump from the 13" to the 15"). I like the beautiful look of the Macbook Air; but I'm wondering whether 2GB of RAM (at least for the models from Amazon.com -- where I want to buy from) will be sufficient. I plan to do basic photo editing, browsing, perhaps some simple video editing, and to use GarageBand. For that reason, I'm leaning towards the Macbook Pro 13" (sadly, with the now-dated Intel Core 2 Duo, and with 4GB).
Can anyone who is using GarageBand with either the Air or the Pro 13" with 4GB tell me what the performance is like? Would I regret going with the Air 2GB, the Pro 13" with 4GB, or even both? Thanks!

Like most electronic keyboards I'm sure, this model doesn't have any space to place the MBP on top. What do other users use to hold their laptop in an effective spot for lessons, etc.?

How well does premiere work with the Canon XH-A1?

I've used premiere for some time now, but the older 6.01/6.5 version. I finally bought a camera based on what folks were saying of the camera, and naively believing "they're all the same when it comes to capture" -- i.e., firewire is firewire, so it's a no brainer.
The camera I bought was the Canon XHA1, and from what I see from a couple of posts, it sounds like Adobe and Canon are far from bed-partners...
I downloaded the trial version /specifically/ to test HD capture with the camera before I spent the big $$$ on the upgrade, but it seems the -one- feature I wanted to actually test has been disabled from the trial, which makes it rather worthless for me.
What I'm curios about is what format the capture takes -- previously, with 6.0 and a DV camcorder, I would capture in "raw" format and the system saved them to disk as .AVI files. With the Canon and a "competitive product", capturing HD creates a multitude of files -- separate audio files, a video file in some obscure format, a "scene" file or index indicating where the cut-points are or should be in the overall video, etc.
Honestly, I prefer the single file format for media, especially if I preview the entire tape and make a batch-capture list -- makes it easy to deal with "archiving" the captured media later on...

I suppose the system is getting to the "obsolete" stage, even though I followed the "ultimate linux box" article for the specs [AMD 3400, nvidia 6800, corsair memory, SATA disks set up as raid, etc.] but now that I think of it, it was probably the "ultimate linux box" for 2004 or so... ;)<br /><br />editing has been a little mushy with the other program, but so far all I've done is simple cuts and fades [oh, and one night hand-correcting the image stabilzation, but that's a story of it's own...] I'm kinda turned off by their "buy the package for $130 now, then pay more to turn on each individual feature you thought you were paid for in the first place..." I don't know if it will get to the point where it meets or exceeds the full CS3 price, but since I qualify for the discounted price of $300, I'll probably get there...<br /><br />But, back to the point -- if "all HD" is the same [separate audio and video files], then I'll deal with it and not worry too much. For the most part I don't care if the video "scrubs" properly, but I *do* care that it RENDERS properly (I can let the system render day and night if I have to) so I'll continue to squeeze a little more out of this "ultimate" system just a little longer [and in two or three years when my regular DVD player dies and "all that's available" is blu-ray, I'll upgrade when the prices are better :) ]

How does Time MACHINE work with the Verizon Fios Router and External Harddrive??

I just got a laptop MBP for my daughter who has got Verizon FIOS as her carrier. The Router has wireless capability and ethernet capable connections.
I want to set her up with an external hard drive for Time Machine Backups and to make it easier, I was wondering if I can somehow connect the external hard drive to the router so she can use her laptop anywhere in the house and have it backed up.
I clearly recognize that I can hook it up direct to the laptop but I thought if someone had an idea, this approach might be easier for her.
I haven't gotten the external hard drive yet so I thought I would ask before I do.

You can restore from the larger disk since Time Machine makes a complete copy of the Mac on the first backup on any new disk.
So, the first time your Mac backed up to the larger disk, the entire contents of your Mac's hard drive (minus any files that you excluded) were copied over. Then, Time Machine began to back up the incremental changes on all subsequent backups.

Time Machine - is there any way to allow it to work with the MacBook Air 2011 lid closed?

When the Air sleeps, Time Machine stops (although it does pick up immediately after the machine wakes). I had been leaving it on overnight, but Applecare techs tell me there's no need for that, as there are no utilities running at night, contrary to what I'd seen elsewhere.
The risk is that I'll miss the last backup. Is there any way around the problem, other than calling a manual backup and waiting for it?

Sorry, I guess I wasn't precise enough. I'm concerned about this (remotely likely) situation:
10:15 p.m., TM backs up, next backup scheduled for 11:15 p.m.
11:10, I put the machine to sleep for the night. Previous backup 55 minutes ago, numerous files changed or added during that time.
7:30 a.m. next day, SSD crashes during wakeup. The last 55 minutes of operation have not been saved to the USB hard drive.
Is there an automatic way to avoid that gap in the backup?

The sync doesn't work with the new version

Hi, I have a Macbook version 10.4.11 I just to work with the pocketmac for blackberry former version and It use to work great but since I did upgrade to the new version they system doesn't sync any contact, meeting....
The system recognize my Blackberry PIN and the status is "available" but nothing happens.

I tried a whole slew of things and did manage to get it to sync by syncing each component one by one just to see if there was a problem area such as tasks or notes. That went fine but when I tried to do a full sync will all the components I need the sync would run and then then PocketMac would freeze and crash. Yesterday I decided I had spent more than enough time on this and bought MissingSync. So far it's great.

deggie is correct; BT only works with some headphones and keyboards. You'd have to invest in one of the 3rd party apps in the App Store to get your printing done.

My machine was patched to date 10.x.x. I was lucky to get an internet connection and I selected the option to re-download Lion... its curruently being downloaded. What if that doesn't work?

There seems to be a problem, just now, with the USB 3 ports on the new MBP's supporting eternal USB 3 drives. Some people have no luck at all - can't even recognize the drive - and some are reporting USB 2 speeds (those who drives are recognized). I'd call a dealer such as LaCie or OWC to see if they have USB 3 drives that actually work with MBP's with USB 3 ports. You may have to wait for a software/firmware update.

Will Bootcamp work with the 3T fusion drive with the Mountain Lion update?

The notes on the update say it will work with the 3T drive but in typical minimalist fashion, Apple doesn't mention whether that includes the 3T fusion drive. Why can't they just explain things fully?

I installed 10.8.2 update today with my 2012 MBA. The details of the update include: Resolves a video issue with some VGA projectors when connected to certain Mac notebooks.
I tried using the MBA with a video projector and it found the correct resolution and connected with the projector automatically. Using detect displays in the disoplay preference pane wasn't even necessary.
I hope this is the fix I have been waiting for with the 2012 MBA.

How do I get FF to work with Mod Organizer (for mods used with ES: Skyrim)? I get an error message that it can't understand the address given.

I am an avid Elder Scrolls fan and am using the new STEP 2.2.9 setup. They've gone to Mod Organizer (MO) and I cannot seem to get my FF working with the download mod portion of things. I click the "earth" icon, which takes me immediately to the Nexus Mod files page but when I choose a file to download after clicking "Download with Manager" I get this error message:

Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (nxm) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context.
You might need to install other software to open this address.
The address given, when clicking "Download with Manager" begins with nxm://Skyrim/mods/ The address is such due to trying to download with the manager.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! I've pulled my hair out for the last few hours trying to find a fix. I've disabled Adblock, all other popup blockers and enabled the main address in my exception rules. It's just not working. Ugh!

Does anybody know how to modify the driver for the Tektronix 370A curve tracer so that it will work with the 370B?

I am trying to control a Tektronix 370B curve tracer using LabView via a GPIB interface. However, there are no drivers available for download for the 370B. There is one available for the 370A, but it is not compatible with the 370B and I have been unable to figure out how to modify it to make it work with the 370B. Does anyone know how to modify this driver, or know of an existing driver that works with the 370B? Thanks!

Yeah, unfortunately, the Tektronix 370B does not currently have an instrument driver and the driver for the 370A is not supported by National Instruments (it is just posted on our website as a courtesy) - so I am afraid that there is not really any more information on the differences that might exist between the two available from National Instruments. As an alternative, you can always develop your own driver using the VISA and 488.2 drivers + a copy of the user manual for the Tektronix 370B. Otherwise, you may consider speaking with Tektronix or getting ahold of a User Manual for the 370A and comparing some of the settings - there are likely some differences in your configuration options at the very least. Or, if someone out there has tackled this before and shares their knowledge...

Making sure everything is allowed through firewall
Rebooting phone/laptop/router
Disabling ipv6
Disabling all networks except the one curently on
Re-installing iTunes
Restoring iPhone
No luck with any of those unfortunately so i just thought i'd see if anyone else is still without wifi sync after trying those as well and if you ever found a fix, thanks.

I just wanted to leave a note that it's working now. I'm not sure if it was the latest iTunes update that got it working or that i decided to start a new library instead of using the one i had backed up on Windows 8 (it didn't occur to me to check using the old library when i re-installed iTunes). But if anyone is having this problem, it might be worth trying again with a new installation of iTunes to see if the latest update works for you, and if not, try using a fresh library instead of a backup (by fresh library i mean discard your old library completely and start a new library, not just restore as new iPhone, a whole new library).
