Any info on 7125-100 (Neo4 Platinum)

Hi All
I've been trying to purchase a MSI Neo4 Platinum (Ver 1.0) motherboard here in South Africa. I am pretty sure that this is the MS-7125-010, ... whereas the ROHS board (Ver 3.0) is the MS-7125-030.
However, .. the supplier says that they have no stock of the MS-7125-010, .. but that they have just received stock of the new board ... a MS-7125-100. They have no real knowledge of the board, as it has just landed and is going thru Customs etc..
I can find no reference to it on the MSI site.
Does anyone have any info on this board? BTW, .. it is slightly more expensive than the original Neo4 Platinum board, .. if that is any indication that it may be an updated/upgraded board.
Thanks and Regards
Tom Watt
South Africa

7125-100 is K8N Neo4 Platinum (PCB 3.0) on the website.
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=720 also listed some difference between PCB 1.0 and PCB 3.0.

I am seeing a saw tooth ping to my WestTel DSL modem. On all of the other PCs here on my LAN the first hop is always 0ms.  After updating the mother board bios and turning on the LAN memory I still get 0ms to 7 or 10 ms.

Sorry the system did not email me.....
I did update the BIOS and I used the liveupdate.  I also updated the NVIDA drivers with a link that MSI sent me.  This did help things out a lot but the issue is still there.  I have updated the web page with more info and pics.  I have disabled the Xp firewall and have hooked the pc up to the westtell dsl modem.
After a reboot things run fine for about three hours...  Then it starts and get worse as time goes on.  It is not a heat issue as my new case has 10 fans and the read out of the CPU is good!   34C

MSI support sent me a link for updated NVIDA drivers and that helped the issue some.  I do not have the link to the drivers as my link to the MSI support is not working now.  Not sure if they have deleted it or if their system is down.

  • MS-7125 K8N Neo4 Platinum NB fan speed

This is the information I was given by MSI tech support. Even though MSI describes Core Cell's Buzzfree technology as controlling the NB fan speed it only works on certain models and the 7125 is not one of those.

I wish it was buzz free.  My 7125 NB fan buzzes like crazy, I need to find a solution to this annoyance.

    Hello !!
The Bios configuration depends on many factors.....but we do not know anything about your configuration. ( CPU, RAM, Powersupply.....)
If you need HDD Speed, RAID 0 will be a good Option and you should consider it.
Both Controllers, Silicon Image & nvidia, have the same speed. But i think you can not attach Optical drives to the Silicon Image Controller. ( if someone has other experiance please post )

if you're overclocking, as you say 3.5GHz Athlon64....maybe that's your glitch, as SATA drives will do funky stuff at those speeds...not sure about your IDE though. I would say to check enabling of IDE controller in BIOS, or check jumper configurations on the back of the optical drive!

  • Neo4 platinum installation issues part 2

Okay, well last night I finally got my new neo4 platinum board to recognize and boot with the cd rom drive that I had attatched, as well as run through all of the POST without any issues. Now I have another one.
I'm reinstalling XP on the hard drive that I'm using (which is now blank and reformatted) and I can get past the initial "blue screens" wherein you choose the partition to install to and XP loads up all of the preliminary files etc. However, when it asks to restart and says that the "installation will continue" once the restarts is complete it boots back up and freezes on the "Accessing DMI data pool" (i think that's what it says, something like that anyhow) and then doesn't move. If I reboot again after that and try and boot off of the cd again, it just takes me through the initial setup steps all over again. I have no idea what the problem is and am completely stumped. Any suggestions?

Well it could be a few things.  Can you tell if the computer is running hot at all?  These are just things you need to check off even if you might not think it would affect it.  Is your memory the same?  Did they come in one package?  Also, is the first one (closest to the CPU) in the green slot and the second one in the purple slot.  This doesn't necessarily have to be that way (that is toward the front) but when something's not working correctly, you want to make sure everything is installed as recommended until you get your problem nailed down.  I know your probably not doing this but don’t overclock either.
Oh hey, I just noticed something about your specs.  I see you have an Antec 430 Watt PSU.  Is it a AGP (20-pin) or PCI-E (24-Pin) PSU?  The older 20 pin connectors are supposed to work with PCI-E mobo's but that doesn't mean that it will.  I'm not certain but if that's your old PSU you were using with your AGP mobo, I bet that's your problem!
You can pick up a good PCI-E PSU at Monarch Computer.  A good PSU for a cheap price, which I have BTW.  It's a Enermax 530 Watt PSU, PCI-E of course and it's only $80!  http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=100122&Category_Code=ps-500  or if you want to stay with Antec, try this one but it's more expensive: http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=100241&Category_Code=ps-500
Crap. I really hope it isn't my PSU. I just bought the stupid thing two days ago, and yes it IS a 20 pin connector. I'm using the adapter thing that converts to 24 so I figured that there wouldn't be an issue. Would this really cause it to freeze up like that? The other thing that I've noticed is that during the installation processes there are some LONG pauses in "action."  A few times I actually thought that it froze up on me, but walked away for awhile and came back and saw that it had advanced. Until it gets to the "DMI" message and then it craps the bed for sure.
:::sigh::: I've had these parts for three days now and haven't been able to play with them. I've got Far Cry, Half life 2 and BF2 all waiting to be played on max settings but I just can't get the darn thing to run.
Someone else mentioned awhile back that my PATA hard drive might be dated enough that the mobo just doesn't like it. I really really don't want to spend a whole lot more money on this thing, but obviously will if I have to.
If anyone out there has any ideas or can offer any advice, I'd love to hear it. I just want to get this thing fixed.

  • Once and for all: MS-7125 Neo4 Platinum NB temperature sensing

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to shut my MS-7125 Neo4 Platinum NB fan up.  My XFX 6800GT vid card prevents me from using the blue Zalman passive cooler, unless I bend or remove its fans, which I haven't gotten around to.  So I'm looking for alternatives, one of which is simply undervolting the stock fan, after cleaning the interface between chip and heatsink and applying Arctic Silver 5.
Of course, to make that workable, I need a reliable temperature reading for the Northbridge chip.  Many posters have suggested that "Fan1" in Speedfan is the NB on the MS-7125.  However, I saw one thread (will edit and link it later) that suggested that that reading is actually for the Winbond chip closer to the corner of the board, not the actual NB.  If that's the case, then I don't really know what temp the NB is at, and I don't feel safe undervolting its fan.
So which is it?  Once and for all!
    Thanks in advance!
    best,
    Ryan

g2006, Be careful when interpreting statement given to you by tecnicians.
I know: I had to post a screen cap to convince him that CoreCenter didn't have a NB fan speed control slider. In fact, like many newbies, he thought the nb fan alarm slider was the nb fan speed controller. It's after pointing these stuff that I got the info that there wasn't a temp sensor on the nf4 chip. I kept asking and correcting his misconception until, I assume, when he saw that he didn't know about this particular board, and might have asked the right questions to the source. The later answers were more informed, less conceited; might have been a different person altogether. But of course I might have misassumed (is that a word    )
But as you said, they still recommended to RMA...

try this. 1- Unplug your MSI Fan and see what happens to your SYS/NB temp, your should see a 2-3 deg C increase at idle and aa 6-8 deg C at load.
When I get a way to physically control the speed (rheostat), I'll take time to do lower the speed to see how it affects the speedfan temp for the "sys" monitor.
I'll try to check also were this "system" temp sensor is supposed to be placed, according to some here and there on some forums, and test briefly with a hair blower or something more accurate to check those allegations.
What made me dismiss altogether the "system temp" as being the nf4 temp sensor is some people on boards (here and elsewhere), using the zalman nb47j, reporting that it was getting quite hot to the touch, but with speedfan reporting the sys temp as low (35-40c) nonetheless; but of course this is relying on others, I should test this somehow myself...
    Quote
2- Install speedfan on your computer  and  use its manual fan speed control features to slow or shut down the fan that registers around 5200 - 5400 rpm.
I do use speedfan. The 7125 nf4 fan registers around 7300rpm ( ) on speedfan and corecenter.
Both speedfan and corecenter can monitor and modify cpu fan speed.
In fact, in the Manual itself, p. 2-16 (about the connectors) it says explicitely that the CPUFAN1 supports fan control; it doesn't mention this capacity for the other connectors, which is a good indicator that only CPUFAN1 has it.
NF4 fan is connected to NBFAN1 connector; I have another fan connected to SFAN1 connector, which also has a speed sensor according to the manual; but again, no impact on fan speed using speedfan... and none promised, if one reads the manual: only the CPU fan is actually said to be speed controllable.
    Quote
Do you have Cool & Quiet activated?
CnQ is CPU centered, at least reading from the manual. I don't know about the Neo2 that you have, maybe you have more options on this, but the manual for 7125 is explicit on this (p. 3-26, for those who have the manual).
I also would like others' views/experiences on this.

  • Neo4 Platinum (7125) Northbridge fan options.

My MSI Neo4 Platinum (7125) is a fantastic board except for one irritating issue, the northbridge fan makes way too much noise. It's now the loudest fan in my system. Problem is it sits right below the video card so whatever I get to replace it has to be low profile. I'm looking for a reliable, good performing and quiet replacement for this 7000rpm squeeler. It should have the same or better cooling performance as the original while being and staying quiet.
I looked at the Zalman passive models but they won't fit due to the proximity of the video card. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

  • BSOD's on my x64 K8N Neo4 Platinum based PC, Any ideas what's wrong? Help!

Over the past few month I've been getting BSOD's. There is no real pattern to their occurence and it's not something which is constantly happening (It happened around 5 times in the past 2 months), but I've really grown to hate them. You see, after getting one what has happened in the past is that when I go to restart my pc after getting a BSOD, I find I need to re-install my whole OS! What happens is that after booting (which oddly enough doesn't work well after a BSOD, It freezes on the boot screen and I need to restart several times), a black screen appears telling me that certain files in the C:Windows\ direcotory are corrupt or missing.
So the real problem is that the BSOD's cause me to re-install my whole OS. One will happen, then it will be ok, I turn the system on, log into windows, then it might happen again, after which I'll need to re-install. The files that go missing are always different too, and when I run scan-disk (after plugging in my main drive into another computer) it finds corrupt files and deletes them.
At first I thought it was Azureus (p2p client) which was causing the problems because it seemed to happen when I was runing that. I stopped using it, and the BSOD's still occured...sometimes randomly when browsing...etc. I figured that since files got deleted and corrpupted, it must be a problem withthe Hard Drive....So I bought a new one, and I've still had the BSOD error (although files haven't been deleted yet).
So yeah, I really need to solve this problem as it is taking away from my productivity and causing me to re-install far too often. I will post the BSOD info as well as my system info below (and a screen shot):

I looked that up on the net, and it seems the first part seems to indicate, or at least COULD indicate overheating. I checked CPU and System temps and they seem acceptable.
I am running Windows XP x64 Edition with the following hardware (please note that all of the hardware drivers I'm using are written for x64, MSI is so good:)). I have had this PC before it started having these problems, it could be related to using x64 I guess, but the error doesn't show that does it?

My OS and drivers are fully updated. As for my BIOS I've been running the version I'm using now forquite some time and I believe it is version 1.5. Also in another bad turn of events, my northbridge fan seems to be on its way out of this world (this just happned so I don't think its related to the BSOD). I haven't been able to find a replacement, and since its not spinning very fast, and sometimes stops...It's causing the heatsink to get quite hot. I need to get a new one, and I can't find them anywhere...I wonder if thats covered under warranty... I looked into getting a different heatsink, but my Graphics card is so colse to this heatsink, that theres no room for a bigger one at all.
Do you think this problem is motherboard related, I cannot understand what the technical info the BSOD gives me means, can anybody understand it? I don't think its my HD's, or Ram, or CPU...could it be a motherboard problem? And if so, its under 1 year old, can I get an RMA?
Thanks for the help in advance.

At one time I had a weak 450w psu that had only 18a on the 12v rail.  When I overclocked my cpu and gpu, I was getting bsod's every once in a while and couldnt figure it out until I read a similar post like yours on this forum.  I decided to upgrade my psu and havent had that problem since.
Power supplies can be deceiving.  I now have a 480w psu but its has 30a on the 12v rail.  So what we need to know is the ratings of your psu (see my sig) just to see if your psu is the culprit.  Just my 2 cents.

  • K8N NEO4 Platinum (MS-7125) DIMM Memory Setup

im planning to install two Kingston value ram KVR400X64C3A/512 on my K8N NEO4 Platinum board, this two modules although identical feature double side chip arrangement, i an also well aware from reading the board manual that dual channel installation of these modules will actually slow down the performance of the memory,
what would be the best setup for these to modules?
im planning on installing one module in DIMM1 and the other in DIMM2, is that the best recommendable arrangement for this type of DIMMS?
also this DIMMS use 2.6v, and the board default setup is 2.5v, should i leave the default settings or do i need to make any changes in the bios configuration for these to work properly?

I would go with a dualchannel config.
Confirm dualchannel mode on boot screen or with cpu-z software

To compare differant memory configs, you can get a rough performance idea by running sisoft sandra mem.benchmark.

Never go below RAM voltage recommendation.
I rather upper the voltage to 2.7 for best stability.

  • No Post - K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI - any help would be awesome

Ok here it goes. I recently bought a K8N neo4 SLI and set everything up, hit the power button, and nothing happened. So i figured it was DOA and i sent it back. got another one, hooked it up and nothing happened. Tested the PSU and power switch on a different machine and they work fine. But with the K8N i have nothing, no fans, no lights, nada. I am a relatively experienced computer builder and haven't had this one happen to me yet. I've read every troubleshooting guide on the MSI site and i think everyone in the forums but the dang thing still won't turn on. Here the specs:
    K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI
    Athlon 64 3200+ 90nm
    512 x 2 Geil Ultra Platinum DDR 533
Seagate SATA HD 7200 RPM 160 GB
    Chaintech 6600GT
    Ultra X-connect 500W with the 24-pin adapter
Got a bunch of other junk too but thats all thats hooked up now. just going for the bare minumums so i could at least get some response. Please give me some ideas of what could be causing this are maybe something dumb i forgot. I know my power suppply blows but i've seen others get it going with that and since i only have barebones hooked to it, i'd think it would go. Thanks in advance.

I had an interesting thing happen to me yesterday, that sounds exactly like your problem.
I'm looking for ways to reduce my gpu temps, so I'm playing around with case fans, round wiring, etc...  One of the cables I replaced ran to one of my PCI-E cards.  aparently it had a short or something in it.  I spent hours trying to get my computer to start up again, I was afraid I had fryed the board....no power, no fans, tried a different power supply, etc.....    One wire, well two, because it's one of those that takes two molex plugs and turns them into a Pci-e plug.
    What a pain....
Chack your wires, check for a short.  If you're having the same issue with a second mobo chances are it's not board related.  Could be you have the srews attaching it to your case to tight and have shorted it out there.
    Hope this helps.
    Good luck!

ivangelion, I have this board and it's a good choice.
    So to answer your questions:
    1. yes
    2. No you can upgrade to newest right away [ver1.D]
    3. 939. Most people/ forums are saying to wait awhile on the AM2
    4. The Silicone Image RAID supports RAID 5 as it is now on this board.
    5. That's a good starting point and you can amp it up from there as $$$ permits.
Good Luck and let us know if you need help along the way.

  • K8N NEO4 Platinum (MS-7125) PINOUTS

I really do apologize to everyone if im sounding a little tiring on this matter, but im near the end of this journey and im just checking the last and final details before final assembly....
I was just going thru the K8N NEO4 Platinum manual and i started wondering what exactly do they mean when they label a pin "RES" or "Reserved" what does this mean? whats the difference between "RES: RESERVED" and "NC: NOT CONNECTED"?
the ATX1 main connector for the board sports the "NC" label on pin 12 while on my PSU that pin has a +3.3V line, and pin 20 has the "Res" label and again in my PSU that pin carries the -5V line, the manual has no notes on that,
so is it safe to assume that nothing will happen if i connect my PSU to the board?
I have a KMEPC PH Series 500W dual fan PSU, ATX 1.3 compliant and has both the 12V 4pin connector and the 20+4 main ATX power connector, it was the best bang for the buck down here and has 25 amps in the 12V rail which should be more than enough for my system.

RES/ RESERVED means that the pins are not in use and reserved for future needs.
NC/ NOT CONNECTED means that the pins have no connection, can be used in the future as needed.
The -5 volt line is a relic of the old ISA days, most newer MB and many P/S no longer use this.
The P/S connector has a few more 3.3v pins, with newer MB the 3.3v is not so much needed as the 12v rail is being used for more work, in the old days (really not all that long ago) like the KT133 era the 3.3v was used Extensively.
You are safe to connect your P/S up to your MB, Happy computing
