Any info on CRC, checksum, or other file integity VIs for large binary files?

Working on send rather large binary files (U16 stream to file) via internet. Would like to check for file integity via CRC or comparable checksum. Would appreciate any comments/suggestions

Hi Brian,
You said;
"Would appreciate any comments/suggestions".
You did not mention what transport mechanism you plan on using.
As I understand ALL of the standard mechanism use CRC of some form to ensure the validity of the packet BEFORE it is ever passed up the OSI 7-Layer model.
TCP/IP based protocols will see to it that all of the segments of a transfer are completed and in order.
UDP on the other hand is a broadcast type protocol and does not ensure any packets are recieved.
So,
At the very worst you should be able to handle your "sanity checks" by simply using a sequence value that is included in your out-going message. The reciever should just have to check if the current seq value is equal to the previous +1.
I co-developed an app that ut
ilized this technique to transfer status messages from a RT platform to a Windows machine. The status messages in this app where concidered FYI, so the sequence counter served as a way of determining if anything was missed.
I am insterested in others thoughts on this subject.

are there any ways to get sequence number other than getting it for each record

CACHE is the number of values Oracle stores in memory. So the first call to NEXTVAL Oracle grabs x numbers; subsequent calls to NEXTVAL are served from memory until they're all gone and them another bunch is grabbed. The attached sql*plus output demonstrates this behaviour.
Note that normally unused numbers in the cache are returned to the data dictionary but in exceptional circumstances (DB crash) they may be lost.

  • Any info on future R1 RAW (SR2) file suport.

I am hoping that someone has heard or knows something about future support in Aperture for the Sony DCS R1. I posted a week ago and I hope I don't come off as complaining too much but as it turns out, I only have till the end of the month to decide if I want to switch to another product that does support the R1 RAW (SR2) format before the price goes up by a significant amount. Honestly, I really don't want to do that.
I love Aperture, it has been a enormous help to me but since the adjustment data will likely never be shared as a common format between these types of apps I feel compelled to choose one and stick with it. I have organizational problems and having my data split between to systems makes me highly uncomfortable. The Sony R1 is the camera I intend to use for the foreseeable future until an affordable SLR shows up on the market with the features I require. So I feel stuck.
I am just looking for ANY information... even unofficial, that would give me hope that Aperture would soon have support for my camera of choice. I have made a pretty large investment of time in adjusting and organizing my photography with Aperture and I really dont want to start that all over with something different. But I also can't stand still and not create.
I have sent feedback to Apple and received no response. My guess is that no one reading these boards will really have inside information but maybe they will and if nothing else perhaps I will help someone else not get stuck in the trap I got myself into.

Here is the whole process detailed for other R1 users...
    Download Adobe DNG Converter here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?
    Download PlistEdit Pro here:
    http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/plisteditpro/
Use PlistEdit Pro to open this file:
    System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/ Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Raw.plist
Find the line that contains "DSLR-A100" and change just that text to "DSC-R1"
Use the Adobe DNG Converter to convert your SR2 files to DNG.
(As Kari mentioned above you may want to keep the Original Sony RAW file. I have not yet determined if there is any downside to the conversion process. I suspect there isn't but I plan to play it safe.)
Import these DNG files into Aperture as you normally would.
So far everything seems to be working pretty well. The images look good and I have been comparing them directly to the other software that supports Sony R1 raw directly and I can see little difference. It would seem that the converted files contain all the information of the originals.
I am still not sure I want to adopt this convoluted workflow. As I mentioned I have organizational issues and relying on a piece of software to catalogue and sort my images when you have to hack it and convert every file seems like a really bad idea to be honest. Other people who dont have my issues may not see this as a big deal, but to me, it sorta defeats the main purpose of an application like Aperture... too give you non destructive adjustment of the detail rich files that come out of your camera and give you one organized place that you know contains all your images.
I can see myself down the road getting "locked-up" because I get the feeling that I haven't converted and imported everything or finding out that I could do something with the SR2 file thats not supported in the DNG and having to go back to the original files and recreate all the adjustments. Or worst case scenario, the hack stops working down the line and Aperture stops seeing the SR2/DNG files that I will have put enormous amounts of time and effort into sorting and adjusting.
This of course is exactly the sort of thing I am trying to avoid by using a application like Aperture.
So I have a lot of thinking to do... Good luck to any other R1 owners that are in the same boat. I have read the opinions of some people that think Apple will never directly support the R1's RAW, but at least as long as this hack works we have an option.

Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.

  • Anyone have any info on settings.sxx files?

    Hi everyone:
I thought I'd additionally post this inquiry on the OSX technologies forum--not finding solutions elsewhere.
I've turned up with a "settings.sxx" file on every network Mac I've turned on today. Following an equally puzzled Panther forum user's link to http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=SXX, it's supposedly a "SAS Stat Studio Executable Module". Yikes. I went to the SAS site and turned up this article: http://www.sas.com/success/dmdc.html.
What is scary here is that it looks like some sort of tracking software (more than your average cookie) that can read ANY type of file. It also keeps returning after trashing and restart. I have not loaded any new software or subscribed anywhere new online. Does Apple security or anyone else know how this all of a sudden pops up, how to irradicate it, and how to block this kind of "cookie monster" from planting in the first place??
    Any info is greatly appreciated!

What's the path to these files? I have a bunch of "settings.sol" files on my PowerBook, but they're connected to the Macromedia Flash Player as they're all stored in the preferences folder for that. Perhaps the file extension changes depending on the version of the Flash player...
Here's the path to one of mine:
    ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys/#www.jdpower.com/settings.sol

Not delete your old admin account, just make a new admin account & try that one.
I read on a different thread to try an Archive and Install. Is this a good option for me?
10.5.x does an Atchive automatically by itself, in theory you won't loode anything, but without a backup, as well as a problem, there's no guarantee.
    Try this if you haven't...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

As usual this question has documented answers, and you are asking this question, because you consistently refuse to read any documentation. So in your case the answer could have been 'Yes, there is. See the docs'.
You could actually say you are in gross violation of the forums etiquette post, and are abusing this forum.
If you would have read the docs, you wouldn't have used dbms_support (which was never supported for end-users), but you would have looked at

  • Data Recover From Formatted Drive? What is the best program to use to get back Logic Projects and any other file type?

I was in the process of reorganising my hard drives so I could RAID them however I managed to corrupt one drive and had to format it which meant I lost all my Logic Files and some other files. I managed to save a lot of files (mainly video files) before I had to format the drive but I need a Data Recovery service that will not alter anything on the hard drive and will put all the formatted files (regardless of the type) back for me so I can get the rest of the ones I need.
    Thanks in advance.

    What about folders and such?
No. FS doesn't reconstruct folders. However, Data Rescue does, depending on how you use it. About the only thing in Data Rescue a Quick Scan ever seems to show you are files that are already live.
So that leaves you with a Deep Scan, or a Deleted Files scan. The first pass of a Deep Scan will attempt to retrieve folders and files, along with their original names. The second pass only looks for file patterns. Like recognizing a Photoshop .psd file. It will recover it, but give it a nonsense name. A Deleted Files scan only results in nonsense names of recognized file types; no folders.
What were you using File Salvage on? A hard drive?
Yes, though you can use it on a flash drive, or any other mounted drive.
At the moment it is estimating 289 hours remaining on a 1TB drive. Can it not go faster?
No, both of the software mentioned are slower than molasses in January. When you delete anything in Windows, its file table entry simply tagged as deleted. So to unerase them, the tag is removed. That's why it works to quickly and easily (assuming you haven't already overwritten the data to be recovered).
In OS X though, the whole idea of the underlying UNIX structure is all about security. It's not supposed to be easy to retrieve deleted items. When you delete items, their file table entries are erased. So the only way to find deleted items is to scour the entire drive for BOF (Beginning Of File) markers that don't have a matching starting block to anything that is in the file table.
Another question, half the drive was empty. Will it fly over that empty space or will it sieve through it incase there was some files stored on it?
If you use the Expert mode is FS, you can choose to do that:

HDD is a Toshiba 1TB, partitioned into two 500GB partitions.
    OS X version 10.9.2

Yes, sharing a TM disk is a bad idea, and disks are cheap enough so that you don't need to.
    Now
Have you tried to repair the disk yet

I too have the same problem.  The audio drop out of sync in about 5 sec in not uncommon for the audio to be 30+ sec behind video.  Apple needs to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   its a joke,  my iphone is all messed up after the last update as well.  at one time not to long ago apple products and software were top rated, not so much any more, more and more problems are showing up and apple is unwilling or unalbe to fix the many issues.  Apple needs to fix the audio sync problem, it not the computer hardware or other software it ITUNES!!!!,  there is no workaround other then hitting pause and hitting pause and hitting pause to temp fix the problem.
