Any internal SuperDrive will work on MacBook Pro?

If I will change the internal SuperDrive of my MacBook Pro 15", can I put any DVD internal superdrive of the right size? Is there a firmware restriction to do that?

Here is an option for the MacBook Pro although I would think twice before applying the upgrade. If you have tapped out your current drive, then maybe an external drive may fit your needs without the inherent risks, etc. Either way, I aim to please, so here is one that reportedly, fits and works.

  • Internal mic not working on macbook pro

    Hello,
A few days ago I was trying to use my macspeech dictate software on my new macbook pro for the first time, I had to plug in the mic it came with and it would not work. Now my internal mic will not work at all in any other programs. I made sure it was selected under system preferences but for some reason it does not pick up on any sounds. I have my computer all up to date with version 10.6.8. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
    Thank you

I doubt that the update did it, My daughter Macbook has it too and it is a general update of Yosemite. But, if you can backup your files you could go to the restore partition and reinstall Yosemite. The reinstall only installs the operating system and usually does not alter any of the other files. But having a backup is always a good idea. You can start by holding down Option or Option R at startup to do the reinstall.I cannot tell you that this will fix the internal mic problem as it could be that it is defective.

  • Superdrive not working on MacBook Pro when using Parallels in Leopard

Just wanted to mention this. I don't know if it's been reported before but I just recently discovered this when attempting to use my drive to read some DVDs. I installed Leopard a couple of weeks ago and haven't used the drive since, so yesterday when I couldn't read any discs I got worried that the drive might be malfunctioning. By accident I closed Parallells in the dock and a while later when giving the drive a last try I was surprised to see that it was fully working again
Just a tip so you don't unnecessarily go and turn in your MacBook (and have to wait like 3-4 weeks before getting it back...).
There are certainly a lot of bugs in Leopard...

When you configured your Parallels host OS you told it to grab the CD drive. Once it has done that it is no longer available to OS X. Go to the lower right corner of the Parallels window and find the CD drive icon. You can release the drive back to OS X there.

  • Will Pages work with MacBook Pro OS Snow Leopard 10.6.8?

I am wondering if the Pages App will work with MacBook Pro OS Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  I am getting conflicting information from people, and I don't want to purchase and download the App if I am not able to use it.  Thanks for your help.

Thanks so much for your help, Michael. Glad to hear it works for you.  This gives me enough confidence to go ahead and order the App.  Thanks again.

  • MacBook Air Superdrive?? Does it work with MacBook Pro

    Hello,
I need an external Superdrive. Does the MacBook Air Superdrive work with MacBook Pro??

No, it does not (at least, not without opening the drive and modifying the internal components).
External optical drives from Sony and LaCie work well with the MBP. Here's ONE EXAMPLE, here's ANOTHER EXAMPLE, both from Amazon.

Generally signing out and signing in (signing out and back into the Creative Cloud application ) will fix this. If it isn't resolving the issue for you, let us know what you see and we can try something else.

  • HT204370 I have changed my internal hard drive on my macbook pro. I have put old hard drive into a capsule and have this plugged into my laptop. I can't find the movies on my old hard drive now? Any idea how I can move them to iTunes again? cloud taking H

I have just changed my internal Hard drive on my MacBook pro. I had recently downloaded some movies on iTunes which I want to put into my iTunes library on my new internal hard drive. I have put my old internal hard drive into an external capsule but when I open the icon of the hard drive from the desktop I can't find my movies.
At the moment I have the new movies downloading again from the cloud but it is literally taking hours for even one movie to load.
When I changed the internal hard drive I restored my info from my old external hard drive which hadn't been backed up in a month and hence does not have my latest movies...
I am concerned that I might go over my internet usage limit (flatmate is refusing to change to unlimited package!!!!) by downloading all the movies again from the cloud never mind how long it is taking...
Is there any way to restore all my info and media from the old internal Hard drive in the capsule as well as from the external hard drive?

It means there is no bootable system on the drive. If you still have access to the old drive, then I suggest you boot from it then clone it to the new internal drive. Use OPTION boot to boot from the Recovery HD on the old drive:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Source means the external old drive. Destination means the new internal drive.

  • 10.6 broke my intern DVD/CD Drive in Macbook Pro

    Hello,
Today I installed SnowLeopard Retail Version on a third intern partition of my Titanum MacBook Pro (intel) with an intern SAMSUNG HM250JI CD/DVD Drive. (On the first partition i have installed and in perfect use OS 10.4.11 for a while now, and the second is a data partition for me).
Since after the installation and the Software Actualisation to 10.6.1 today evening, my Mac ejects all CD's and DVD's and does not accept any one anymore. (only with my extern CD-Writer i'm still able, to read CD's).
The most crazyest thing is, that this behaviour isn't only when i started from 10.6.1, no, it also happens when i start from my long stable 10.4.11!
I tried everything: 1. Repairing the permissions (on both systems), 2. Resetting PR-Ram, 3. Tryed out a new User...
nothing helps. The facts tells me, it must definitively had something like a firmware-update with 10.6 or 10.6.1, that does not work. (Explains, why it does not work on 10.4.11 anymore too)
My Mac is not so old, that i could buy just quick a new one. Localisation is Swiss/German
Do you guys have an update or a fix for this? Have to do some important work and would like to burn backup-DVD's today evening.
    Cheers,
    Tazmandevil

    Hello,
It's 02:17 o'clock now here, i've backuped my files on my friends computer. And in between I've found out, that apple is investigating the SUPERDRIVE-Problem with the MATSUSHTA-Drive since the 14.September 2009 now, after the 10.6 came out.
Then I've found several SUPERDRIVE Firmwareupdates on Apples own websites, dated since then. They also tryed to avoid noise (that i never had) with this drive in between. But these FU's only runs on System 10.5. (I only have 10.4 and since 'yesterday' 10.6). I've also read on several places, that there can also be a problem, that the Firmwareupdate from the install-DVD can fail, and one then should be able to correct this, by removing the FU inside the Account/Startup Items. But there is nothing on my system)
Now, if there really should be a FU, that only runs on System 10.5, and I only have 10.4 and 10.6 (which caused this problem, 'yesterday evening')... I'm wonder, why this Update only runs on 10.5. Isn't there a version that runs on 10.4 or 10.6 ? U can't really expect me to buy 10.5 now, just for having a running Firmwareupdate-Environment.
How is the progress with the "Investigations" or are they finished now? If so, can you help me to get a Firmwareupdate for the Superdrive on my machine, without a 10.5?
Or do you know a way back to my old firmware, that worked? (don't ask me now, which one it was, the one with 10.4.11, so, probably older than Boot-ROM-Version: MBP12.0061.B03 and SMC Version: 1.5f10?)
(actually i have access to an old powerbook Superdrive (MATSUSHTA too)... would it help, if I would replace the MacBook Pro's SD by this older one? Would the Firmware be on this drives hardware and would get useless again, when i would try to install 10.6 on this machine? I can reject 10.6. Thats no problem. I like 10.4.11 what is stable. But I need to know if there's another solution or not.
    Cheers,

  • Managing two internal hard drives in a Macbook Pro

Upon reaching the storage limit of my internal 7200RPM 750GB SSHD, I replaced the optical drive with a 5400RPM 1TB SSHD.
The Macbook Pro in question is the top end early 2011 15" model running Yosemite.
The 750GB drive is where the user folder, applications, etc are stored.
The 1TB is where I store my music, photos and movies along with some other miscellaneous things.
I have noticed a significant decrease in battery performance since installing the second drive. I was expecting some decrease but not to the extent that I have experienced.
Itunes, Lightroom and FCPX all seem to work well with the second SSHD.
What are your experiences with two internal hard drives in your Macbook Pro?
How do you manage two internal hard drives?
Aside from replacing the SSHDs with SSDs, what are your thoughts and experiences with running RAID arrays?
Any performance tips that you can share for getting the most out of my setup (circumstantial and installing SSDs are out of the question for now)?

Start over. Partition the new drive and install Lion. Activate FileVault. Then restore from your backup.

  • Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro

Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro when plugged in with a dvi to mini dvi cable. Any ideas what to do to make it work? I lugged the 23" 2500 miles into the wilderness and I need help

Okay, here's an update: the DVI to ADC adapter does work with the Apple displays that I have tried, but it won't work with the Formac. I have tried multiple time to contact them, but to no avail... they don't even respond to threats of posting my opinion of them, which is this:
DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM FORMAC! They make quality products, but their customer service is a big time joke! They won't take care of you.

  • I've lost the use of Appleworks in 10.9.2. Is it possible to partition the internal hard drive of my MacBook Pro and install an older Mac OS (10.6.8) on the second partition with OS 10.9.2 on the other?

I've lost the use of Appleworks by upgrading to 10.9.2.
Is it possible to partition the internal hard drive of my MacBook Pro and install an older Mac OS (10.6.8) on the second partition with OS 10.9.2 on the other? I'd like to be able to boot to the older OS when I need Appleworks and  few other applications that aren't available on OS 10.9.2.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello again, WZZZ,
Here's an update. I was successful in creating two partitions on my internal drive, and in installing OS 10.6.6 on the second partition, as per your guidence. I now have it up to 10.6.8 with all the security updates and AppleWorks. A great thing.
    Some thoughts:
    • The partitioning had one hitch; it failed at first. But once I "repaired" the disc with Disc Utility the partitioning went thru.
    • The partitioning took a long time in 'resizing the partition.' A few hours I think it was. Lots of progress bar watching.
    • If I had it to do again, I'd size the two partitions differently. My original data was occupying about 230 Gb of the 320 Gb disc. I made the new partitions share the space, about 230 and 75Gb. That left very little available space for the main disc. I ought to have put some breathing room in there. As it is, it's an incentive to clean up all those files, especially all those iTunes files. I now have about 10% of available space there and mean to continue deleting.
So, all in all a good project that got me where I wanted to go. Thank you for your help.
    Appreciatively,
    wallah

  • Does Adobe Photoshop Elements work with MacBook Pro with Retina display?

Does Adobe Photoshop Elements work with MacBook Pro with Retina display, please?
Have searched Adobe website for answer - most recent is 2013 answer, saying no.
Contradicted by a staff ember who only referred to Photoshop, not Elements.
Reason I need it is that iPhoto does not support very high resolution photos - which I have now scanned onto my MacBook and do not want to re-scan!! After 90 minutes at my local Genius bar (lovely folk, very conscientiously searching for an answer...), re-scanning was their final piece of advice.

    Hello Smis,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I understand you are having issues with your HP Monitor on your MAC. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Updating a Monitor Driver, where it states under the sub-heading Using HP monitors on a Mac "HP monitors are not supported in a Mac environment. However, newer Macs use graphics with VESA modes and can display to most HP LCD monitors. To do this, connect the monitor to the Mac while the Mac is off, and then turn on the MAC. The monitor should operate at 60Hz. The INF and software for the HP monitor are for Microsoft Windows and cannot be run in a standard MAC OS environment."
This being said all I can advise is that you check to see that the monitor is set to operat at 60Hz and contact Apple for assistance if that does not get your monitor displaying correctly.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
