Any issues with apple tv/airplay with a first generation MacBook pro (1,1)?
I think I'd like to get an apple tv, but fear my macbook pro is too dated. I saw some limitations with mirroring my iphone 4 (not 4s), so I wonder if there are other surprises in store.

If you want to use AirPlay Mirroring with your Mac, you won't be able because it's not compatible with your Mac > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
However, although Apple says you can't, you can mirror your computer onto the Apple TV using a third-party app as AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com

i have a problem with my apple tv. after i bought and instaled mountain lion on my mac book pro i have trouble with apple tv and my laptop. when my laptop conects with apple tv most of the time my wifi doesnt work on my macbook but on my apple tv it stil does work. when it does work and i play a movie of my own by using itunes the first second the video and audio is synchrone but after that audio is at normal speed but the video gets behind. and i am getting sick of it. does sumbody reconize the problem and can help me with this problem?????
Same issue here- I can airplay my amazon prime library just fine from my iphone 5 but on my macbook- (mavericks, 15 inch 2013 retina with quad core i7, nvidia 650 M and SSD) it just sputters and lags.
I have noticed web video is considerably worse than local content, giving me pauses of up to 2 or 3 seconds in which video stops but audio continues in the amazon player. Youku video, however, seems relatively stable. Our subscription speed is 25 mbps, so that should be plenty to stream SD video from Amazon and doesn't account for why it would be nice and stable from the iphone, but not the mbp.
Playing light, locally hosted steam sidescrollers like Limbo is better but gives periodic drops in framerate on the Tv. when mirroring the framerate remains steady on the MBP screen.
Games airplayed from my iphone seem relatively stable, though with a noticably lower framerate on the TV than on the phone.
It seems these issues have abated considerably since yesterday's Apple TV update, but are still curious nonetheless and I'm not sure that the update yesterday was specifically meant to address those issues or if I'm just getting a time with less network interference now.
Comcast recently installed a new router/modem/phone combo, replacing our old separate modem and router setup. I'm going to test if putting the network on a different channel helps. -
Major heat issues with first gen Macbook Pro
It sure seems like I should be able to find an easy answer for this, but I can't.
I have (I believe) a first generation Macbook Pro. 2ghz processor, 2gb of RAM (maxed), running 10.5.8.
When running streaming videos on it, the temperature gets absolutely out of control. 194-200 degrees (F) for the CPU, and over 120 degrees on the bottom case. This is WITH the fans going at almost 6,000 RPM, and the computer is elevated at the corners in order to allow for airflow underneath.
There's a lot of separation between the top and bottom pieces near the bottom left of the computer (the corner near the Z key), if that means anything. What the heck is happening here, and can I do anything to fix this without spending hundreds of dollars at a repair shop?can I do anything to fix this without spending hundreds of dollars at a repair shop?

Few months back I have upgraded my OS to latest Mountain Lion version.
I am facing a unique problem for last1 month. I am not able to open any of the apple website starting with the name "Apple" such as apple.com, http://www.apple.com/mac/, http://www.apple.com/ipod/ etc but I am successfuly able to open http://store.apple.com/ (as you can see this is not starting with apple but starting with store).
I have reseted my safari, tried different browser such Opera, but not successful.
Can you please provide a solution for this?

@diHi I have same prob on a client's Macbook Pro and iMac both on 10.5.8 (but problem there before update). Have deleted all cookies (and preferences and cookie database etc), history etc but problem reappears after 3 or links are clicked on www.apple.com site. If I clear cookies problem goes away again only to come back. Have tried creating a new user account - same problem! tried archive and install of OS X, same problem still. tried two different internet connections - same problem. problem not limited to web browsers either - iTunes has issues and client had his iPhone lock itself because he could not connect to apple to verify the device when he installed a software update. Major headache. Any ideas would be great!

I am getting frustrated with Apple not working with Flash Player on some of my favorite web sites! Is there another alternative to watching these site options on my I-pad?
Flash is not, and probably never will be, supported on the iPad : http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ . Plus it would be up to Adobe to make a version of their flash player that works on iOS devices - something which they have never managed to do and which they have now given up on trying to do.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter and Puffin 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store, so your could try checking there for your sites (and there is the built-in YouTube app). -

I've encountered this error myself upon occasion. If I remember correctly, it was a permissions/ownership issue with the some of the files I was copying. -

I repaired the hard drive with Disk Utility, but the problem still happens. The temp gague shows a max of 51C. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

In my own opinion it didn't work well enough and I don't use it, I have fairly high standards when it comes to stuff like this. But from what I can gather it seems like it's the best of the rest! many here have said they like it.

Trouble with slow Macbook Air. I have first generation MacBook Air and have a hard time keeping hard drive from being full. After trashing many docs, I have almost 5 gigs available, but mac is slow and I keep getting color wheel when I use Mail. At the beginning of week, we have spoken about the unpleasant beeps made by the 7200 rpm hard drive proposed as an option in the MacBook Pro 2009.
A solution has been found, the details are given by Rémy.
These tedious beeps occur when the disc is inactive and are caused by a system
to reposition the play-back head carried out in a repetitive way.
In addition to the beeps of the hard drive, Mac OS X displays the pretty multicoloured wheel during some seconds while waiting for hard drive to finish these loadings and unloadings of the play-back head.
The solution comes with a utility of the name hdapm (for Hard Disk Advanced Power Management) which makes it possible to change the level of energy management (APM) of the hard drive.
Hdapm can be downloaded from : http://mckinlay.net.nz/hdapm; hdapm being a command line utility, it is thus necessary to use the Terminal (which is in /Applications/Utilitaires).
After copying hdapm into your user file, the command to enter is:
sudo ~/hdapm disk0 max
disk0 corresponds to the disc to regulate knowing that hdapm should function with any ATA disk supporting APM
max is the level of APM which is a number ranging between 1 and 254 included
the word following are preset and can used in the place a number for the level of APM
max (maximum performance) is the parameter to use to eliminate the “beeps”.
min (maximum economy of energy)
default (returns to the default setting)
The level of APM is a temporary adjustment in the firmware of the hard drive, this adjustment is lost when the disk is powered down and it is thus necessary to redo this at each for each start up.
To install hdapm so it is launched at each start-up, it is necessary to copy hdapm to the hard drive (/usr/local/bin is advised) and to copy the file hdapm.plist in /Library/LaunchDaemons.
It will be can be necessary to you to edit hdapm.plist with the desired parameters; the default settings are: the repertory where hdapm is /usr/local/bin, the hard drive is regulated on the first (disk0) and the level of APM is the maximum.
You can simply copy the file hdapm into /usr/local/bin file if you want to avoid modifying Plist.
Simplest way to reach these files is to use the Go/go to the file and to copy/paste this address before validating.Yeah, I don't buy that. I spoke with Seagate a couple of months ago when I was looking for the impossible to find 500 GB 7200 RPM HD and asked them that very thing. They told me it would work fine, but I should disable SMS. Apple told me the same thing. I ultimately waited and got a non G-Force model, but Seagate told me it would work.
I also don't believe that they'd OEM the drive to Apple knowing it wouldn't work. That makes absolutely no sense. If Seagate knew the G-Force drive would not function properly in an Apple MacBook/MacBook Pro, and they OEM'd it to Apple for that purpose anyway, what does that say about Seagate?
I admit it's odd that the used the G-Force model given the presence of SMS, but apparently Seagate has prioritized the manufacturing of the G-Force drives and probably offered it to Apple. -
I ordered the disk to update to Snow Leopard. Did that so I could get the App Store. Did that so I could download Lion. After I installed Lion my MacBook is super sluggish. Takes like 6 seconds just to open a drop-down menu in Finder.
I have been backing up. Will LaCie D2 QUADRA with firewire restore my apps back onto my MacBook Pro if wipe my drive using the USB Lion OS stick (which I think I'll have to buy even though I downloaded the new OS online)? I have been plugging my laptop into the Lacie drive set on "auto" and it's been working great.
One Genius said yes "you will get everything back" but my Mac buddy says "say goodbye to most of your apps". Then a guy at the university I asked "do you have a disk image". And I said "what the **** is a disk image?".
Is the problem that I installed an OS on top of new OS without wiping the drive? Or, is my MacBook Pro too old? Do I need to buy a new one?

Any help?SA will indeed transfer accounts, files and apps at first start. Can do so even faster if you clone the internal HDD onto the external (just split into a partition large enough to contain it) and then use it as the source. Probably faster than Time Machine too. The safest and quickest way to do a disk image or clone is using CarbonCopyCloner (free), and it will preserve the Lion Recovery Partition too.
Since you'll have to re--download the Lion installer again, note that you can concoct your very own Lion Installer USB Stick with it prior to reinstalling and not have to pay for the Apple-branded version. See Kappy's tutorial: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3786371?tstart=0
As for the sluggishness, I believe that a great part of the cause is that you only have 2GB RAM. Don't know if your Mac can take more but try at least to get to 4GB, if not 8GB. Should attempt this before messing with the reinstall, as this may get you what you want. -

Running the new and improved 6.0.2 with Mac OS 10.6.8 on a Macbook Pro and Firefox keeps crashing. When I have Yahoo on my screen with MY FAVORITES on the left side I can't click on ANY of my favorites without a crash. I can hardly navigate anywhere without a crash. Have a MacBook Air running same OS and same Firefox with no problems. So what gives? What is happening and what should I do to fix this?
something similar has been happening to me for a a couple weeks (even before the most recent update, but now is definitely worse) on my 2010 MacBook Air. Firefox freezes upon startup, and then freezes maybe every twenty minutes or so when I'm actively using it, staying frozen for at least a minute or two. it drives me crazy.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" and my warranty just ran out! I partitioned my harddrive into two partitions, one with Snow Leopard and the other with microsoft.This morning I turned on my Macbook Pro and it will not boot into Snow Leopard. I shut it off took out the battery, reinstalled the battery. Then I put in the Snow Leopard CD and booted up to disk utility and The Snow Leopard partion would not show up?? I do see the microsoft partion.
I also rebooted holding down the shift key and still no Snow Leopard
Could you please tell me what I can do, what keys do I press on restart any advice to get Snow leopard back.
thank you.Have you restarted holding down the Opt key? That procedure should give you a gray screen with all of the partitions that exist. Then select the SL partition for boot. Also go to System Preferences and Startup Disk, unlock the lock and select the SL partition as the default boot partition, then relock.

The certificate on my applications install DVD for bundled software has expired. I am unable to reinstall with this dvd on my snow leopard on macbook pro. Pl help. If I use Lion, it works fine with the expired certificate. But doesnt work with snowleopard.
