Any known software conflicts with Leopard

I am really frustrated. I've been an exclusive mac user since 87. I have had major problems with leopard that remind me of the pre-OSX days. Apps hanging, crashing, not shutting down (and I'm talking Apple apps like Safari). My computer hangs on shut down while Updating Boot Caches (I've let the thing run over night hoping I was just being impatient.). I have even had some kernel panics. I've run disk utility, TechTool Pro, and DiskWarrior. When I run these apps, some times they find problems and sometimes they don't. The hardware checks are okay. I have done a clean install of Leopard. And of course, everything is up to date. I have even had trouble syncing with dotmac with the syncs getting out of sync and constantly asking me which one I want to keep.
I never, ever had these problems with Tiger.
My final guess is that maybe there is some rouge piece of software that doesn't work well with Tiger.
Is there a list.
Any help?
Ever so frustrated,
Paul

What you did was an erase and install.
Check with each application vendor for software compatibility. The way you can tell if an application is compatible is if the actual update is said to be compatible.
I.e, when it says:
10.4.x and above means 10.4.0 and 10.4.1 compatible.
10.4.x and 10.5.x and above it means 10.4.0 - 10.4.11, and 10.5.0, and 10.5.1 compatible. No assurance though exists for Intel compatibility, unless it says Application Universal in the Finder menu -> Get Info information about the application. Rosetta applications are typically PowerPC compatible, with dependence on PowerPC drivers and may not always work with Intel Macs.
10.4.x and 10.5.0 to 10.5.2 it means it is compatible with the most recent release. The Intel Mac disclaimer applies here as well.
10.4.x and 10.5.0 to 10.5.2 PowerPC and Universal means it will work with PowerPC and Intel Macs running Tiger and Leopard to present day.
10.3.x and above does not mean 10.4.x compatible, nor does it mean 10.5.x compatible. There are some exceptions if the software was developed within the framework of Rosetta.
Visit http://www.macupdate.com/ and http://www.versiontracker.com/ for the most current info on application compatibility. If there are any applications you are uncertain about their compatibility and want to make sure you remove them entirely, use http://www.appzapper.com/

  • Any known GB conflicts with "Sound Studio" 3  ?

I have ordered a new iMac desktop with latest OSX 10.8.x and iLife suite.
I currently use Sound Studio 2.2.4 on this PPC, and plan to buy latest SS 4.x for the new desktop.
I've never played with GarageBand yet.
Are there any known conflicts having GarageBand and Sound Studio on the same platform?
    Thank you in advance.

What conclicts are you thinking of? Sound Studio produces audio files that you can import into GB as long as they are in a supported format. That's independent of the OS. I am using both programs and am happy with it.

  • FCP 5.03 won't launch/software conflicts with Avid?

    Hi,
I just purchased FCP Studio and a new dual 2.3 G5. Installation ran fine. All other apps open (ie: soundtrack, dvd studio, motion, compressor, etc.).
When I try to open FCP 5.03, it starts to open - anotherwords the rectangular box with FCP and my name and the serial number comes up like it's going to launch, but then the box goes away and no application. The finder then becomes active.
I'm running on and OS 10.4.2 and QT 7.0.1 and would rather not go to 10.4.3 or a higher version of QT as I need this OS and QT for my Avid Xpress application. Plus I do not suspect that the OS or QT version is the problem, as we know FCP has launched on OS 10.4.2 and QT 7.0.1. All other software is up to date.
Possibly there are software conflicts with Avid? The only other software I have installed on this machine is that which was packaged with Avid Xpress Pro v.4.8.1 which is as follows:
Avid Xpress Pro v4.8.1 (which includes)
    Avid ALE
    Avid EDL Manager
    Avid FilmScribe
    Avid MetaSync Manager
    Avid MetaSync Publisher
    ...and also:
    Boris FX 6.1 LTD
    Bors Graffitt 2.1 LTD
    ATTO ExpressStripe
    Factory Floor
    Sonic Fire Pro v.3
    Sorenson Squeeze
Any insight on how to launch FCP would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I've run 4.5 and Avid Express on the same system. And 5.0.3 (haven't cranked up the Avid software since installing 5.0.3). My first suspect would be some kind of Audio plugin.
Use the Console program to inspect the logs. You might learn something that way. (/Applications/Utilities/Console).

  • Any known compatibility issues with Norton Antivirus for Mac v.11

I sometimes work freelance for a company that requires freelancers to have an antivirus program on their computers regardless if they are macs.
Anybody know if there are any known compatibility issues with mac Norton Antivirus v.11 and snow leopard?
    thanks

Big time. Do not, do not install anything Norton. Your system will be mucked. Comply with the company request and use ClamXav.

  • Any known compatibility issues with snow leopard and cs3 creative suite

have leopard and want to upgrade to snow leopard..but am worried about any conflicts with photoshop cs3 and  fireworks cs3?  Does anyone use this version and have problems?

The extracts below are from http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
I couldn't see any mention of a CS3 version of Fireworks.
Anecdotal information is variable; some seem to have no problems, others found CS3 unusable, so it's difficult to be categorical for you. Certainly Adobe only consider CS4 and above to be fully compatible.

  • Routers known to work with Leopard

I've been spending a ton of time trying to solve my wireless problems since upgrading to Leopard. One thing I've heard said is that third party routers might be the culprit.
If you have consistently reliable wireless with a third party (non-Apple) router, could you please post the model # here?
Does Apple recommend any third party routers for Leopard?
I bought a 2Wire 2700HG-B because Apple listed it as compatible with BTMM, but it has since been removed from that list.

Hi Jimtron, just to answer your question, I am using Linksys WRT54GS, 'cause that's what I had before this wireless laptop. Connected to both a wired base PC, and second wired base iMac, a Windows wireless laptop and this Mac wireless. Its also been connected first to a Verizon DSL modem and now a Comcast cable modem. I have zero issues with the router, although I have not yet gone to a wireless printer (that's next). The only times I had to spend more energy beyond plugging in the ethernet is the initial 4 minutes to configure the router to the modem itself.
This is not a plug for Linksys, just answering your question and stating I have not yet had any particular issues in my particular configuration. My girlfriend once changed the modem password one day without either knowing or telling me she did something, and that drove me nuts for a while, but that's another matter, eh?
    Good luck!

  • Are there any known compatibility issues with iMac and Google Chrome?

Does anyone know of any compatibility issues with iMac and Google chrome. A Facebook friend who is a photographer posted recently that Chrome had ruined his iMac. He stead that it ran an update on itself that made safari and chrome unusable - slow running overall. In the end he had to reinstall his OS.
Is anyone aware of this and should I un-install Chrome off my Mac?
    Thanks,
    S.

There is nothing official but your post will attract a variety of personal experiences.   I once loaded Chrome and found myself with the dreaded MacKeeper malware, loads of pop ups and conflicts with my system.   Part of the problem is the huge range of add ons you are tempted to  take on, many of which are not as strictly tested as Apple extensions.   I would say, unless you have a specific reason, leave it alone.   The best browser is Firefox and for Macs, Safari is OK.

  • Is there any database software for Snow Leopard?

  • QuarkXPress 7.5 Crashes on Opening- Software Conflict with OS 10.6.3? HELP

    Hi All,
I'm a graphic designer who knows her way around a Mac fairly well but I'm having problems with running my version of QuarkXPress (7.5) on my new MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.3). I installed everything correctly- when it asked for all my serial numbers and validation codes- they seemed to go through no problem. When all was said and done, I went to launch Quark and it crashed right after the first little splash page comes up. I can't get it to work. I read a thread on Quark's site where a guy tried everything and ended up having to return his brand new MacBook Pro he ordered online (like me- fully loaded) in return for a MacBook Pro at the Apple store and then when he reinstalled, Quark worked. I'd hate to do that- I love my new customized MBP and have all my stuff on it already. Yeah, I use InDesign, but I need Quark as well.
Is there a fix? An update? Could this be more of a Mac problem than a Quark problem? I'm hoping it's Quark and not my new Mac.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I need this software to work soon!
    Thanks!!!

We have 2 computers in the studio running Snow Leopard (the remaining 3 still on Leopard) and neither of them will run QuarkXPress 7.
    - MacBook Pro appeared to install and register okay about a year ago, but the boss who uses the machine only complained to me this week that it won't let him save, and it crashes immediately after printing. I'm thinking the registration never completed properly and it's running in demo mode.
    - iMac (latest generation) has the issue others have mentioned that is crashes after displaying the splash screen. I've tried the "fix" of removing the preferences folder, but then get the message that the application needs to be re-installed. Tried re-installation, and it went smoothly, but got exactly the same crash on launch.
Is there anyone out there who is actually running QuarkXPress 7 successfully on Snow Leopard? If yes, how did you get it to work?!!

  • Any known compatibility issues with disabling onboard sound and using

I have the K7 N2 board and disabled on board sound in the bios to use my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. Sound seems to work fine in Windows Xp and the few games I have installed so far. My problem is with UT2003. When I try to launch the game I get the splash screen then it simply goes away. When I checked the system folder and looked at the debug log it shows the following.

I am able to run UT in safe mode without sound. I yanked my Santa Cruz card and uninstalled the drivers and tried with on board but still had the same problem. Since disabling the sound allows me to play, it has to do something with either the on board or my card or some sort of incompatibility between the two. Anyone know of any issues? On a side note. If I was to wipe my drive and use the on board is the quality of the sound as good as using a separate card? Any help would be appreciated.

Just a follow up...I figured I could spend countless hours trying to figure out why UT wouldn'l load or spend 3 hours wiping the disk and reinstalling software. The latter proved to be worth it. My preference would have been not to install any of the audio drivers at all, but since they are bundled with the system drivers there is really no choice.  The one thing I did differently was not to install the live drivers from the disk that came with my board  but rather update to the newer Nforce 2 system driver dated 2/25/2003.
So the install went Xp Pro, Sp1, Video drivers,  newest system drivers, disable on board sound in bios, Santa Cruz drivers then UT2003 and the game loads fine. I still get the message about the game port not having enough resources but that can be ironed out.
Hopefully this information can help someone else out who might experience conflicts going forward.
A side note..I find that with two network cards (3Com and on board) that Xp will spend about  three mintues after it loads non responsive as it looks for the other network connection. Running the network wizard on box 1 connected to the internet and creating the network disk and running it on the other machine allowing the on board card to see the network and eliminates the painful lull after Xp load to the time I can do anything.
Thanks for the timely responses. I'm really enjoying this board. So many options, so little time.

  • EMET GPO Default Protects for Recommended Software conflicting with Application Configuration GPO

    Hello,
I am trying to have Excel15 launch with the -EAF mitigation removed, but also have the "Default Protections for Recommended Software" policy Enabled. This is to allow the Microsoft Power Query Ad--In to function using Excel 365 Pro Plus x64.
It seems that the "Default Protections for Recommended Software" is taking precedent over the manually configured  "Application Configuration" Enabled policy.
I have the  Application Configuration Enabled and looks like:
    - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\excel.exe -EAF
    - *\Microsoft Office\OFFICE15\EXCEL.EXE -EAF
    - *\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\excel.exe -EAF
Any help would be greatly appreciated to get Excel launching without the -EAF mitigation.
    Thanks,

if I understood correctly from talking to EMET feedback team last time, they said  App Config settings don't actually override any the default app or popular or IE protection profiles. (it really seems like App config settings override the other profiles
from the manual, hey? I thought so as well)
Sooo, it sounded like we'd need to extract the recommended or popular app list, convert it to the path + mitigation not included format for the app config GPO and then just use app config to manage it.
Needless to say it sounded surprising and laborious and not management by exception at all.
Rinse repeat for new versions of emet and XML policy files .
p.s what would be really helpful in the admin guide is some real world examples of contoso.local where they apply the recommended apps + a few exceptions for all + custom exceptions for a separate class of  machines or groups of users. hmeh.

  • Desktop Software Conflict with Webroot Security

Anybody having issues with Webroot Internet Security Essentials causing the new v6.0.0.11 of BB Desktop Software to CRASH and freeze the darn computer???  I can only run the update with Webroot turned off, despite telling the Firewall in Webroot that the RIM software is allowed.
Of course, contacting RIM on this is impossible so does anybody have a solution???
    Thanks!!
    Dave

    Naney,
I'm a big fan of AVG and I also use the Desktop Manager, however, I haven't experienced your specific issue. Ensure that you are using the newest version of the AVG and BB DM software and see if it resolved the issue.
Also do you get any errors that you can provide to us?
    Hope this helps,

  • Does any extra software come with new iMAC?

My other Macs all came with bundled software (Omni Outliner, Stuff it Expander, Backgammon, and bunch of other neat things). This new one has chess-and that's it! Seems there should be-at least-some free software. Do I actually have to PAY for a zip file expander? and little extras like backgammon? Just wondering if my computer is missing something or...is that's just the way they come now. Bare bones. No bells and whistles?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    This is the list from the Apple website;
    Software
Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard (includes Time Machine, Quick Look, Spaces, Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat AV, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Xcode, Developer Tools)
iLife ’08 (includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, GarageBand)
    iWork ’08 (30-day trial)
    Front Row
    Photo Booth
The basic Stuffit Expander is always free. Plus many folks use Unarchiver.
Apple Downloads has lots of stuff to download, much of it freeware.
My favorite card game is freeware; Solitare XL.

  • TS4123 LSP vendor software conflicts with iTunes

The suggestion is for me to call these LSP vendors to resolve conflicts between their software and itunes? I want listen to music not become a software engineer. This is not helpful. Please wave the magic wand and make it all better.
I'm using a network attached hard drive, attached to Airport Extreme. Works fine with Macbook Pro. Seconds go by just clicking on the next tune to play.

Sorry, I meant to add that it works fine with MBP but not in Surface Pro 2 Windows 8.1. Wellk, it works but it is very slow.

  • Do QuarkXPress7 and other professional software work with Leopard?

Somebody knows if installing Leopard on my iMac QuarkXPress7, Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0. Adobe Acrobat still work correctly or there are problems of compatibility?
    Thanks

OK - got Appleworks Save As working sort of normally after a second re-install and upgrade to v6.2.9. There is still a quirk regarding the file extension. If you don't enter a name before choosing a format, the default name will be "untitled..". Notice the two dots. If you enter a name first, then choose the format, you will get "Yourname." with a single dot. If you try to enter an extension in the naming box as you could under 10.4 and earlier, AW doesn't like it and will tell you the required extension is "'.". What you want to do is make sure the name in the box has no dots and no extension.
The file will now be saved just as it was when running AW under 10.4. It will be in the proper format, except that there will be no extension to the file name. The default application to open it will be AppleWorks. If you want it to open with a different application you can add the appropriate extension and/or choose a different default application by doing a Get Info on the file and making the changes there.
