Any link having various Hit ratios and SQL's to calculate them

Hi
Can an ybody give me the link having various Hit ratios in Oacle9i and SQl's to calulate them????How about using advisors than calclating the Hit ratios??
Regards
Gagan

Please be aware that ratios are only helpful in tuning in a relatively small set of circumstances. For instance, if you have just set up a new database and need to montitor the effectiveness of certain init.ora parameters. Ratios can be useful in diagnosing system wide problems but only if you have sufficient understanding of your system to know what is a "good" value. A buffer cache hit ratio of 95% might be bad, a hit ratio of 70% might be great, it really depends on the nature of you application. There is a useful little piece by Jonathan Lewis on his site which compares the value of mining the underlying data for information about the system over looking at the headline ratios. Find out more.
The standard Oracle tools - such as OEM and Statspack - include ratios as part of their offering.

Why does mountain lion "bunch up" all my microsoft office documents that I have open when I hit f3? When I had snow leopard for example, if i had 4 or 5 different microsoft office documents open at the same time I could hit f3 and easily pick one of them.
Notice how in the photo, I can't identify which MS office document I would like to switch too. Perhaps since the Dashboard and Desktop windows are at the top of my screen now Apple doesn't let you have all the applications take up the full screen and be sized individually so that you can have a better idea on what to pick.
I like the idea of grouping to an extent... If you have a bunch of random things it was hard for me to decifer between what was safari, chrome, or word. But now that they grouped them like this, if you have multiple pages of one program running, you can't switch between those pages easily like before.

If I wanted to open any of my Applework documents I had to open them one at a time and resave them with pages. This could take weeks.I have 1000s of apple work documents.
You don't have to open and re-save every AppleWorks document you have right now. Just wait till you need one, then do it. The documents aren't going anywhere.
Am I dealing with Microsoft? This was a BIG surprise to me that Apple would release an OS without testing all programs.
Frankly, it is not Apple's responsibility to ensure compatibiltiy with every piece of software available for OS X. That is the responsibility of the software vendor. Lion has been available to developers for several months before it's release, so Microtek had plenty of time to update their software. Yet they did not. How is that Apple's fault? I think Apple was very generous to give you a refund for Lion.
I'm not trying to belittle your frustration but I do think your ire is misplaced.

  • Cache hit ratio - index sql statement

I am reading the note 33833.1 on Metalink web site. I have diffult to understand the part in the last page of the note. In the last page author talk of a situation where the cache hit ratio is near 100% but the system is not good because. the author talk of a bad sql statement using a non selective index.
Anyone can explain me this situation ?
    thanks for all

Because it can be spoofed easily, cache hit ration should never be used as an indicator of system performance. I could not find the article you refered to I can explain it this way:
Repeatedly hitting the same large amount of datablocks to return a small amount of data will show an artificially high buffer cache hit ratio because the same block get hit over and over, even though most of the data in them is irrelavent.
Another example would be using subquries instead of joins or joins on inline views.
All that being said, a low buffer cache hit ratio over an extended period of time is an indicator that the cache is too small, however a high buffer cache hit ration does not mean that is the right size.

  • Idoc Hit ratio and Idoc Table

    Hi
We would like to monitor the idoc hit ratio (No of idocs posted successfully in the first instance/Total No of Idocs) to see the success rate of our interfaces.
What is the best way to get this data?
Is there any table which gives all the statuses of the idocs. For eg If a idoc had initially failed (status 51) and then it was reprocessed and was successfully posted (status 53), is there any table which gives us this data?
    Thanks in advance.
    Mick

    Thanks Sergey.
I checked one idoc, which was created on 29.01.2010 (29th January 2010). However when I use table EDIDS, with field CREDAT as 10.02.2010 (10th Feb, 2010), it shows me 2 entries for the above mentioned idoc. This is because it was reprocessed on 10th of Feb.
Is there any way to get the idocs created on say for eg 0n the 1st of Feb, 2010 along with the entire history of statuses on the 1st of Feb (all the statuses that the idoc went through on the 1st of Feb)?

  • Image Links "Page" is OV or and I can't delete them

I'm using InDesign CS4 on Windows XP Pro. We have several documents within a book file in which some of the image links have page numbers OV and < >. I know the OV means overset text, but I'm not sure what the < > means. I know it has something to do with XML. That's not the problem.
The problem is: How do I delete these links (images)? Obviously, the images are no longer in the document but I can't figure out how to delete them from the links palette and, therefore, from the document. I've looked in the Structure panel, but I can't see a corelation. The document still prints fine, and I can create a PDF without a problem, but I'd like to clean-up the files.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd Lathrop

I find this is a problem often occurs when using xml (if the document has ever been populated using a data publishing tool such as XMPie/EasyCat/Stibo etc you can get residue xml lingering).
To get rid of it open the Structure View: View/Structure/Show Structure or Alt-Apple-1 (sometimes the menu option isn't there depending on which menu set you have selected).
You will see the xml panel open on the left with something akin to a folder structure. Open these up until you find a reference to the offending image link and delete it (it will give you an option to untag or delete - i think either will do in this instance).

  • I can't remember the answers to ANY of my security questions. And in order to reset them I apparently have to remember the answers to at least two, which doesn't really help me at all considering my dilemma. Anyone know what I should do??

Please help!! I can't remember any of the answers to my security questions (I made them approximately four years ago and don't know what I was thinking).
How can I change my questions without answering my security questions that I don't know?!??

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, or clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed in either article, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

    * In Firefox 3.6 versions on Windows and Firefox 4 on Windows and Linux it's possible to hide the "Menu Bar" via "View > Toolbars" or via the right-click context menu of a toolbar.
    * Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

  • Buffer cache hit ratio query

    Hi,
I would appreciate some advice please.
My Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 database starts off in the day with a buffer cache hit ratio of almost 100% but this drops gradually in the course of the day as the system gets busier. Is this something I need to be concerned about if no performance problem has been reported by the users?
I would have thought this should be a normal situation, i.e. as the system gets busier, I would expect that less number of calls to the buffer cache will be satisfied because many more calls are using up the memory?
Please note that I've done some reading up on this but would like some suggestions from more experienced people than myself on what I should normally expect and what should or should not be a concern.
    thanks

    - What i am doing and how - it is the backend database r our Finance application, many users with various transactions.Okay , that sounds like a "normal" database with normal workload.
    - configuring buffer cache size - I haven't done anything manually yet, it's all been as installed, this is what I'm trying to figure out whether it is something I should be looking into doing simply because of the dropping hit ratio and not because of any reported performance problem. If you don't have much of the knowledge, its the best to take use of the advisories which would tell you in a better and in a graphical way that whether you should or shouldn't be worries. Look at the view v$db_cache_advice which can suggest to you that whether you would need to tweak the buffer cache or not.

    - looking at the queries - What is the easiest way of doing this in an environment where many users are running different queries? What's the easiest way to identify queries that we may need to have a closer look at?Easiest way? Well, let the users come back to you ;-) .
    >
    - Basically, I'm just trying to ascertain whether or not I need to be concerned that my hit ratio drops below 89% even though no performance problem has been reported. If it is something that I should look into, then what is the best way to go about it?
I believe that's answered by couple of us already, nope.

  • Buffer, library, dictionary, shared pool, redo log buffer chache hit ratios

Can please one provide information and sql queries to calculate Buffer, library, dictionary, shared pool, redo log buffer chache hit ratios and if any other ratio for investigation of performance issues in oracle 10g database (10g.1 and 10g.2 both). thanks in advance.

In and by themselves most of the standard ratio calculations are useless to misleading. All the ratios should always be considered in relation to other data such as total requests for a resource, existence of any outlying values in the associated events, etc ....
The proper warning being given then you can find most of the standard ratios mentioned with SQL for their calculation in the Performance and Tuning manual for your version of Oracle.

Please advise me to rectify the error. We've been working for the last couple of weeks.
    Regards,
    Sunil

    Sunil,
You don't need an Oracle ODBC driver.
The way it works is that in the gateway init<sid>.ora file, in your case initTelemetryDB1.ora, the parameter HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO points to a system DSN. This DSN should then be configured to use an ODBC driver to connect to the non-Oracle database. So, in your setup when you want to access the SQL*Server 2008 database then the DSN should use an ODBC driver that can connect to a SQL*Server 2008 database. If you still use the initTelemetryDB1.ora file for the connection then the TelemetryDB1 DSN should be configured to access the SQL*Server 2008 database.
However, there are a couple of problems with your actual setup -
    - the configuration you have - 10.2 RDBMS on a Sun machine and HSODBC on Windows - is not supported. HSODBC should only be used from a RDBMS that is in the same ORACLE_HOME as HSODBC.
    - 10.2 HSODBC is now desupported and has been replaced by the 11g Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) and the configuration you want is supported. That is because unlike HSODBC the DG4ODBC gateway can be installed standalone with a RDBMS being installed.
I recommend that you download and install 11.20.2 DG4ODBC on your Windows machine in a new Oracle_home and access that from the 10.2 RDBMS on Sun - which is a supported configuration. But to do this, you will need to apply either the 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 patchset to your RDBMS.
There is more information in the following note available on My Oracle Support (MOS) -
Note.1083703.1 Master Note for Oracle Gateway Products
The 11.2.0.2 DG4ODBC can be downloaded from MOS as patch and for the gateways on Windows 32-bit you just need to download -
    p10098816_112020_platform_4of6.zip
However, to check the HSODBC ou need to confirm that the DSN used by HSODBC points to a System DSN configured to access SQL*Server 2008.
    Have a look at -
Note 109730.1 How to setup generic connectivity (HSODBC) for Windows NT
But remember this is not a supported version or configuration and you should be using Dg4ODBC.

    Mike

Buffer Cache Hit Ratio .83Quite weird value. It seems your system is doing all physical reads, which seems unrealistic.
I had a 10.2.0.1 database where i saw this kind of result for cache hit ratio and after patching it to 10.2.0.4, it started showing results correctly.
Probably it could be some Oracle 10g bug which made this odd display of hit ratio information in data dictionary. Can you try patching your database to latest 10g PSU, or contact Oracle support for a one-off patch for this problem

  • Calculate cache hit ratio

    Hi,
How to calculate cache hit ratio and execution time for the below query

Fnord. Cache hit ratio is meaningless in the context of a single query. Come to that, it's meaningless in any context. Check out this handy utility from Connor McDonald which allows us to set the cache hit ratio to any value that pleases us.
So what is the actual problem that is troubling you?

    Asif,
Too bad we couldn't meet when I happened to come to Bdesh coz if we could , we would had talked about the same topic for hours. If you are using this hit ratio as the tuning technique than you are not alone. There are so many dbas who are using hit ratio and loose sleep seeing not to a particular %. It was a method that was given years ago by Oracle reason being that at that time, databases , their loads, they were not too much. But now things have changed so should be the troubleshooting techniques. Search over this forum for the same topic and you would see some "cool" threads where some top-notch experts are talking about the same issue.
