Any MB or MBP BootCampers experiencing keyboard freezes in other OSes?

Wondering if there are readers who are experiencing their keyboards going dead for intermittent periods when in OSes other than MacOS? Obviously, when booted via BootCamp?
Trying to get anecdotal info on the keyboard freezing phenomenon - if it's happening under BootCamp in non-Apple OSes, then it would seem to indicate a hardware or firmware issue, since the MacOS would be effectively out of the loop.
Curious...

yes my wireless keyboard keeps unpairing and I cannot pair without a keyboard.

  • 10.8.3 rendered my MBP to lag and freeze (and other issues)

Okay. I have a Macbook Pro 9,1 (non-retina, Mid-2012).  After installing 10.8.3 through App Store, my computer begins to lag, and it would completely freeze in about 2 hours or so.  It starts with one application 'not responding' and it would spread to other applications.  When I try to Force Quit, that Force Quit window would freeze as well.  None of my keyboard, track pad etc would work. I had to force shut down by holding the Power button.
    I have done the following:
    Restart
Restart with 'Reopen Windows when logging back in' off
    SMC Reset
    PRAM Reset
    Hardware Test
    Disk Permission Repair
    Repair Disk
    Reinstall OS
    Reinstall using COMBO Update
fsck -fy in Single User Mode
I also checked the ~Library/Logs/Diagnostic Log and Uninstalled (with official uninstaller) EyeConnect (who crashed in the background for about 8 times during my 24hrs use of 10.8.3.)
While going through that list, I found issues in kernel_task taking up a lot of RAM (1+ GB in normal mode) (~400 GB in safe mode). The free RAM would also be miniscule just before the multiple freezes I had.
Booting through Safe mode, after about 2 minutes or so after boot, My RAM looks like this:
(No Free Space, Wired taking up 6GB...) The Animation would be very choppy  and I would be using Nvidia Graphics Card (GT-650M) instead of Intel Graphics 4000, when nothing graphic intensive is up.  Some Post floating in the Support Communities also mentioned how the VRAM for Intel Graphics 4000 shrunk from 512MB to 384MB. I think I have the same problem as well.
I've been to Apple Store/Genius Bar Twice: They basically said I should wipe the computer and hope for the best.  They also checked my Hardware, and it seems alright.
I thought of rolling back to 10.8.2 through Time Machine, but for some reasons, my HDD (through Thunderbolt) would not mount when booted from the recovery partition. It's there in Disk Utility, just won't mount. When accessing the HDD through USB 3.0, my most recent back-ups are not present, with the most recent update from March 2nd.  (March 3rd ~ March 18th Missing.)This shouldn't be the case, as I back up multiple times every day. I am also able to view the recent dates through Time Machine ('Enter Time Machine' from the menu bar).
I think the only thing left I could do would be Rolling back to March 2nd or Wiping my computer to factory settings.  Both I'm quite reluctant to do so, for obvious reasons.
Hypothesis on the issue: I think it's the RAM management gone wrong, causing the computer to lag+freeze so much.  I predict the wipe won't help much.  But we won't know what will happen unless we do it, I guess...
Did I mention about the sleep problems I had before 10.8.3? I'll skip those since it's not fatal, but they're not resolved in 10.8.3 as well. I installed 10.8.3 hoping to solve those problems, only to get even more problems Help Please? Thanks!

  • Keyboard freezes in email!

this is my replacement phone I replaced my first phone due to incredibly low volume! The phone volume seemed alittle better for about ten hours then got just as bad! But now, on this phone, I have a keyboard problem! When I'm using mail, it freezes numerouse times while I'm typing! Its like it has to catch up and I'm definatly no speed types yet in iphones keyboard, athough I am getting better as the days go on! Anyone else with freezing keyboard?

Have any of you noticed this correlation, keyboard freezes frequently under these circumstances:
    1. You are replying to an e-mail thread that is very long. i.e. you have exchanged several e-mails with the same person and the trail has gotten long (say, over a page).
    or
    2. You are replying to a message with alot of HTML graphics in it. i.e. you're replying to an e-mail sent by someone from E-bay, that has all the pictures, and logos in it.
I'm getting a high correlation between stalling and one of these circumstances.
    Anybody else?

  • Keyboard freezing when forwarding a seached mail

I am on OS 10.1.0.273, device Q10. My email is linked with my enterprise mail (exchange).
Whenever I do a search, then forward one of the searched emails and start typing a message in the forwarded email, my keyboard freezes and no longer responds. Even after closing the email and trying other applications, the keyboard remains frozen and inactive. I have to restart the device to get the keyboard to work again.
Is anyone else having this issue?

Hello DarynThompson and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
To clarify, your keyboard is freezing when you attempt to search for an email as well or does your keyboard freeze in other applications?
What is the software version of your device under Settings>About>OS?

Ive repaired 1000s of laptops over the years (translate: diagnose and replace parts).
Its not that old, Ive owned 100s of laptops (most were free) ....some I still have are nearly 13 years old and still perfect, ....some extremely expensive ones died in under a year.
other than becoming obsolete at some point, there isnt really any "will spoil on" data like Milk for solid state computer parts, ....alas.
You can have a $5000 laptop die in 4 months, and a junker one keep kicking after 10 years.... Ive seen that firsthand countless times.
Common logic dictates that "very expensive = long life" in computers,..... but all the repair people will tell you just the opposite.
I know you have a gripe, I get that all too well honestly .

  • New Macbook doesn't sleep and keyboard freezes

I bought my mom a Macbook on Jan 21st and I've experienced these problems several times. Last night, I tried to sleep the Macbook but it wouldn't go to sleep, I eventually had to shut it down to turn it off. I closed the lid, the white light on the front came on, and then after about 20-30 seconds, it made a noise and the apple on the back of the screen lit up and it came back to life. I tried to sleep from the menu bar and it wouldn't go to sleep either.
There wasn't anything plugged into the laptop like a mouse or anything else, so I don't know what would be causing it to do this. I have a MBP and have never had a problem like this.
Another problem I have that has been widely discussed here is that the keyboard freezes every so often and it gets to the point where it's annoying. It happened at least 3 times yesterday alone when my mom was trying to work on her thesis. I saw that there was a firmware update that supposedly fixed this, but my Macbook is new enough that it doesn't need that update.
Is this Macbook defective? I'm thinking I may have to bring it into a Mac store sometime this weekend and have it looked at if I can't get these problems solved. Any suggestions/ideas?

Here is the link to the keyboard problem. I was having the same problem with mine, and decided to find out what was going on. So I finally found on the Apple site, where they have a update to install and fix the problem.

  • [SOLVED] Laptop keyboard freezes randomly.

I have Arch dual booted with Windows 8.1 on an Asus K53SM laptop.
    Laptop specs are:
    * Intel i5 2nd Gen @ 2.5 GHz
    * 8GB RAM
    * 750 GB Hard disk
    * nvidia GT630M 2GB
Right after installing Arch, I installed GNOME as the DE and everything was working fine. Recently, I uninstalled GNOME and installed KDE. I'm experiencing random keyboard freezes. I've tested it with a USB keyboard, so it is not a hardware issue I guess.
    * The [<Super> + S] combination to display all workspaces works fine.
    * So does the <Alt> + F2, to write commands, but the keys don't work (so can't type anything there).
These freezes are totally random, and the keyboard works fine after 1-2 minutes. Here is the output for Xorg.0.log ->

Please help me to resolve this.

I haven't been experiencing the issue for some hours.
The issue occurred more frequently when I was compiling something. When I tried to reproduce the issue, it didn't occur.
The interesting thing to note is that I updated the system twice in the past 2 days. I checked the pacman log and saw that xorg-server-common, xorg-server, xorg-server-devel were among the upgraded packages. I guess they were causing the problem.
I'll need to test for a couple of days though before I consider the issue to be resolved. I'll update if the issue persists.

  • I have a 24" imac model 9,1 running OS 10.6.8 and I am experiencing frequent freezes and crashes.   How can I solve this problem?

As old as your iMac is, have you cleaned out the dust? Dust buildup can lead to over heating issues. Remove any and all things plugged into it including the power cord, Remove the RAM access grille. Vacuum all openings starting with the RAM access area (air intake). Vacuum all ports and plugs, DVD slot and the opening across the top of the rear of the body. Blow compressed air through all your openings and vacuum again to remove any dust you loosend. Reinstall the RAM grille. Plug in the keyboard and mouse if not blue tooth. Insert power cord...
You are now in a perfect position to do a
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
It is the 5 second timing that initiates the reset.
Here is a link to a Widget to monitor your temps and other operations:

since you are running 10.6.8 did you install the combo update?
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
It is more stable than the regular version.
You could use your original install disc and boot from the disc, run Disc Utility and do a repair disk.

  • TS1717 I can't open iTunes. I'd been experiencing frequent freezes when I was using the iTunes store the past few days. What can I do to open iTunes?

? I can't open iTunes at all. When I hit the icon, it lights up but doesn't engage to open the program. The past few days I'd been experiencing frequent freezes when using the iTunes Store. Any ideas for how to open iTunes?

I would copy over the entire thing if you have room.  With iTunes 10.4 though, you can download any previous iTunes purchases you have made in the past with your current iTunes account.  While in iTunes, look at the left hand side of your screen and select "Purchases" and look at the bottom right corner of the screen and select "Download Previous Purchases".  If you have an iPhone, iPod and/or iPad...you can do the same thing from each device.  Nice new feature...just remember that those ripped CDs need a back-up!!!  Enjoy...

  • Need Urgent Help in PM8M-V H problem - keyboard freeze

    Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie in this forum and I really need urgent help with my motherboard.
    My PC specification:
    Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz
    MSI PM8M-V H W7104VMS v3.4 022206 14:32:17
    1GB(512MB x 2) Kingston PC3200 400MHz
Seagate SATA II 320GB ST3320620SV (set with jumper to support SATA I)
Power Color ATI Radeon 9550 256MB
    Lite-On DVDRW SHM-165P6S
    USB mouse, PS/2 Keyboard
I really appreciate if anyone can help to guide me in solving my problem. My keyboard tends to freeze at the part where it says "Press any key to boot from CD". This limits me to do anything until I'm totally loaded into Windows.  Thus, disable me to perform any formating and fresh installation of OS. However, the keyboards works fine at the begining of the POST and in BIOS. Is there any settings in BIOS that i should perform?.....
However, I realise in order to get through the foresaid message without the the keyboard freeze up is by keep on trying to boot up and shut down until it works (but only work once, then hv to try again), but this is not a solution as if what if I wanted to have 2 OS?... I cant use the keyboard to choose either of the OS installed. I have tried to change the RAM, change keyboard, use the build in VGA, or even remove the motherboard from the ATX casing - result: still have the same problem. What should I do??.. I have look around the forum for answers but there isnt any (I hope I didnt miss any). Is there any problem with my motherboard, or its BIOS, or any of the harware compatibility or etc..... what actually can I do?
I do not dare to perform any BIOS update Unnecessary (it seems that many have problems with BIOS problem in this forum) and moreover i think my BIOS is the most up-to-date. I cant find any new version in the net. Anyway I will check this topic frequently as possible to hope for any solution. What is the best solutions?
    Thanks.

But the thing that makes me wonder is, my BIOS version is the latest but why this type of problem occurs??
What version of BIOS should I use?? Any recommendation ??
    Thanks.

    Thanks C,
(Sorry I don;t know your full name.
I followed your instructions and reset my preferences.
    Crossing my fingers.

  • Keyboard freezes when I try to switch users

Hi, I've run into a vey interesting/perplexing problem.  My PC has two users on it, one is local with no password and the other not local and password protected.  When I try to switch between users my wired USB keyboard becomes unresponsive - if I'm switching to the account that requires a password, I can't type it in.  This problem occurs regardless of which account I'm switching to.
I've tried uninstalling all the keyboards through device manager and rebooting.  Keyboard works until I try to switch users.
Interesting development that I stumbled across - if I just unplug the keyboard and plug it back in everything is fine until I try to switch users.
During my research, I found an article that referenced disabling the XHCI and enabling legacy USB support.  Problem with that, is that I haven't been able to find that setting in the BIOS anywhere.
    Very bizarre!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, RG

    Hello @Goose1961,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I have read your post on how your keyboard freezes when you try to switch users on you desktop computer, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To ensure your system is able to recognize the keyboard when switching accounts, I recommend following the steps in this document on How to Add or Remove "USB selective suspend setting" in Power Options in Windows. This should help to disable USB selective suspend on both accounts after restarting your computer.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Mouse and keyboard freeze

Hello to the community, I've a newest iMac 27 with pre installed Yosemite system, bought four weeks ago...
On today OSX is started to make me freeze the keyboard and the mouse during normal use.
The only way to save unsaved works is connect via TeamViewer from onother machine and save files, but if I try to restart or logout (as a tips on another thread instead to hit restart) the imac doesn't go to login and stay with a grey screen...so the only way is to shout down with pressed button.
Never happen before got it, right now my imac works fine but today I've this problem with yosemite...and more other minor problems...
    Anyone experienced this issue?
ps: I've a wired mouse and logitech mouse, no wireless stuff
    Alex

mmmm I don't think Apple phone experts can help me about because Yosemite has a tons of bugs and it's very frustrating.
I have another Mac pro with others bugs.
I Would like so say if others got this issue.
I Noticed there are others topics on crashes and freezes.

Should I check the memory cards themselves? Reseat them?
    Yes.
Memtest X or Rember to test the RAM.
    Reseat is also good.
The iPhone 4 doesn't like USB 1.1 much.
after the update the computer was working well, except for this freeze when ever I connect iPhone.
I'd try USB 2.0 PCI. That's how I connect my iPhone 4s, and have connected all iPhones and iPods, to my G4.
    Never an issue.
Can't say the same for USB 1.1.......
The above (previous post) linked PCI card is cheap enough.
    Want cheaper, try this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Protronix®-5-Port-Controller-Card-Chipset/dp/B005JE2U82/re f=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1337472141&sr=8-2
The NEC chipset is the desired chipset, regardless of what OS the maker says is compatible.
OS X has native NEC chipset USB support.
