Any opinions on Flip4Mac Studio Pro HD ?

I'm think of getting Flip4Mac Studio Pro HD. Anybody have bad experiences with it?
I'm going to be shooting HDV with the Sony Z1U
Will WMV Studio Pro do the job. Besides the cost, whats the main difference?

Yeah...it's pretty nice....adds the ability to create HD and two-pass encoding profiles. I think it's worth it completely.

Guys, thanks for the replies! I really want it for my portable setup, so know that it won't be the best out there... I'm still quite stuck on whether I want too use its preamp, as I really do like to PreSonus ones. To be honest, it's the compressor that I guess I'm most interested in. I understand that it's a channel strip, so won't have things like sidechaining, but I've been hearing some pretty good reviews about it, and so would also like to hear if anyone has anything negative to say about it. What about it set to squash?

Sharing a dvd studio pro project

I have a co-worker that recently move to the United States. He works independent for the same company that I am working. We both use Final Cut Studio for our work and it is easy if we both have the same projects with the same raw video so he can do a part and I do other. Now we have complicated because he can't send any project from dvd studio pro so I can open and work with it. DVD Studio Pro is different from final cut pro that you can send the project through e-mail and if the person that try to open it has the same raw video in the same folders that you have it (THE PROJECT CAN BE OPENED) this does not work wit DVD Studio Pro.

It does work, but if you have any assets in DVDSP then the person receiving may have to re-link them when they open your file. I know it works because just about every example project I (and others) create is offered for download and you can open them and see how I have set things up. If they couldn't be opened then there would certainly be an issue in sending them around.
You need to make sure that the folder where you save the project file also contains the various folders of assets. If you do this, and save the project file from inside DVDSP to the correct place, then the links to the assets are saved as well and the project file will open without a fuss.
When sending DVDSP projects around the world it is also sensible to use 'dummy' assets and get the structure right using those before replacing them with full quality assets. I tend to use .pict images in tracks to represent footage, leave out the audio (unless it is small and important to the example) and send like that.

DVD Studio Pro Broken since 10.5.5 installation

Every I play any video in DVD Studio Pro the image turns green. Ever since 10.5.5 was installed. I have an ATI X1900 for G5.
Anyone know what's going on?

Also Quicktime Player, Final Cut Pro and Aperture are affected. The only "fix" at the time being seems to go back to 10.5.4 until Apple provides a solution.

Best DVD Studio Pro "CD or DVD Training"?

Has anyone purchase any of the DVD Studio Pro training CD's or DVD's in the market? For instance: The VTC or DMTS training DVD's.
If yes, what's a good training CD or DVD training set?

The only thing with Rippletraining.com is that the training is very sectional. They don't seem to have DVD's that cover full training on DVD Studio Pro.
What do you folks think?

DVD studio pro trouble

Mac friends: Any one use DVD Studio Pro? I want to tear my hair out. I have my menu and assets all ready to go and when played on the simulator things work perfectly... Then when I burn the DVD - nothing. Nada. Suggestions??? I'm on a deadline.

I haven't seen any bugs at all, but for final conversions I tend to export out a self contained, close fcp and convert from QT pro. It seems to encode a little faster that way. For finals, I always use 2pass vbr.
I export right out of fcp for quickie content approvals, they tend to be low bit-rate one-off's to e-mail to my clients.

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

Dvd studio pro aspect ratio, any help would be awesome!!!

Hey mate, I have a quick question with finishing off my DVD.
What are the best settings for creating a normal dvd.
I have created a long film using my Canon DSLR, I have exported my film through compressor in 16:9 and imported it in DVD studio pro. I have used the 16:9 letterbox settings in DVD studio pro and burnt a disk, and when I play it back some DVD players make it look like it is squished horizontally so that everything looks fat, some dvd players automatically adjust and some you have to change some settings to make it look normal. What is the best way to make it look standard widescreen and not require any adjustments on the DVD players.
Am I correct in saying that by exporting it as 16:9 in compressor it makes it widescreen and then by selecting 16:9 in DVD studio pro it doubles the letterbox format and then looks squished, hence I should select 4:3 in DVD studio pro? Not sure here.
I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me, my film is stuck as a result of this problem. PLEASE help me.

Are there any Mac alternatives to DVD Studio PRO 4.
Well, besides iDVD. It seems like many are switching to Windows to author DVDs and Blu-ray's. I'd rather not do that. Any suggestions?

The only Mac alternative at that level is Adobe Encore. It is no longer being developed but continues to be supported, To get it you need to subscribe to the Premiere Creative Cloud product. Encore is a separate download.

HD DVD Authored in DVD Studio Pro does not play - any suggestions?

so i've built a hd dvd in dvd studio pro. here's the odd thing. once built, the hd dvd files sitting on a folder on my hard drive can be played by dvd player. but when i burn these files onto a disk using toast, the apple dvd player can't play them. and they don't play on any of my dvd players either. anyone ever run into this problem?

HD DVD required UDF 2.5. Not sure if Toast supports that. Burn with DVDSP instead. HD DVD required an HD DVD player as well.

I first import all my assets, build my DVD, which may include one or more menus, pictures, music, etc. I use the simulator to test all aspects of video before burning. Making sure that the end jump works, if I add chapters, going to each chapter making sure buttons and end jumps for the chapters work. When I am satisfied I then go to burn/format function and delete or reuse any folders that the computer advises. The resolution is SD, display mode 16.9, Lossless linking, red laser, single, one side 12 cm. Thats about it. Haven't had a problem in the past just wondering what I could be doing wrong now. I am workingo on an imac, MAC OS X, 10.7.4, 2.93 GHz, Intel Core 17, Memory 8GB, 133mHz,DDR3.

DVD Studio Pro 1.5 Won't Recognize Any Video Files

Hello, everyone! I guess this might be a little prehistoric, but I really need help. I have the dinosaur, DVD Studio Pro 1.5, and for some reason it won't recognize any .m2v's, .mpeg's, or anything else. As I understand it, DVD Studio Pro 1.5 will only take MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files, but whenever I use them, it says, "Error: Unknown File Type," in the Log.
Can someone help me? Perhaps there is a way to make it accept more than just MPEG-1 & 2?

Well, I used the requirements for Widescreen NTSC in BitVice. The requirements are given in the DVD Studio Pro 1.5 manual. However, when I went to drag the file into DVD Studio Pro 1.5, the log came up and said: ERROR: 480 is not the proper height for a PAL file.
So, I knew that it must only want PAL files.
Another problem:
To apply videos for a Motion Menu, I am supposed to click on the menu in the Graphical View, and go to "Asset" under "Picture," and select the video I want. The problem is, it won't show ANY .m2v's in the Asset drop box. It will show my Photoshop files, though. And, I'm sorry to say that those files you offered me didn't work either. (They didn't show up under the Asset drop box.)

Compression quality: iDVD vs DVD Studio Pro vs others?

I am merrily editing along in FCE, and looking to eventually compress and burn onto DVD. Since I can use all the quality I can get, and don't have spare money (so what else is new?), I am wondering about the differences in compressing software. Is there a visible difference in the final product using DVD Studio Pro vs iDVD? Is there something else out there that is better than iDVD but doesn't cost as much as DVDSP? Any opinions or experience welcomed!

If your project is under an hour, iDVD will give you very satisfactory results (use the Best Performance settings).
You can create an up to 2 hour movie with iDVD but personally (with Best Quality), I think the quality begins to slide off a bit over an hour
DVD Studio Pro, with Compressor, gives you many more compression options. Compressor has lots more compression pre-sets and you can go in and tweak bit rates, single or double passes, etc. You can do that inside DVD Studio Pro as well. Overall, Studio Pro just gives you a lot more options and control.
Roxio Toast is a relatively cheap (around 80 bucks Cdn) piece of software that will compress your FC movies. You are way limited in terms of things like menus and chapters but compression wise it does a fairly nice job ... again, you don't have the versatility of iDVD. With Popcorn, it will allow you to cram a big movie onto a single layer DVD but the quality begins to hurt
Personally, no matter what you use, two hours is the reasonable quality limit for a single layer DVD
