I used to enjoy learning from this forum and the web forum.... but lately the posts are dwindling and I'm wondering if there is another set of forums that anyone knows about??? I'd like to pop in to some of the others to see what activity is going on. Anyone know of other forums, design based?

It was no different when I was in college in the '60s! I never learned anything about running a design shop or agency. Our portfolios were often pie-in-the-sky exercises without any consideration of the practicality or cost of producing a piece the way it was presented. But, today, I have a strong sense that additionally, a lot of the production detail has gone by the boards.
Too many people today know zip about type, printing, paper, ink and other production details.
Too many people think "computer" first, and it doesn't even occur to them that maybe it's easier (and more realistic) to photograph and scan a particular kind of detail than to try and create it in Photoshop or Illustrator.
Too many people are more concerned by how many different applications they can figure out how to launch and use (even if remedially), than to understand basic design principles.
This forum, the Web design forum, and typography forum can be valuable in those areas glossed over in school.

It's unfortunate (or maybe it's designed that way) but the link from the main Discussions page takes you directly to the "approved" tips forum, bypassing the "User Tips" Category.

Couldn't find the answer to this in any other forum about the MacProtector Malware. Please HELP!!!

I clicked on a link while reading a story about vegetarian athletes today and the MacProtector malware downloaded to my computer. I DID NOT install the application when the installer opened. I immediately started searching for support on what to do. I exited the installer and rebooted in safe mode. I found the program in the downloads menu and put it in the trash. I emptied my trash. I have looked through all of the possible places the program could be hiding and I did not see anything. Am I safe? Should I still change my password? Also, will the virus be able to find my credit card information linked to iTunes or any other shopping websites? Should I start using Foxfire permanently instead of safari?
I would appreciate any help- even though I know this has been discussed quite a bit!

What is does.
Depending on the version it just creates a bunch of random fake notification and claims your infected. If you keep getting it then most likely you have Allow popups and "Open Safe files" in safari on. The only damage is if you give the criminals that created it your Credit Card.
It is changing so it depend on the version but these two links should help.

Any of the below accounting tables can be used.
1.BSAD

3.BSAS
4.BSID
5.BSIK
6.BSIS
These are normal database tables, not clusters. Normally every record from BSEG can be found in one of these 6 tables. The program which selects data
From these tables runs faster than from BSEG.

Is there a way i can delete an element from an form (such as a text area) at run time??
In my current situation i need the text area but i don't want it to be displayed in the output html and i can not use a hidden element.
I have tried using pop() and delete() methods of form.elements array but i get the error that these can not be appiled to elements object.

You might be able to do it only under IE...
but you can get it around it by hiding it using DHTML, set display to hidden or z index to some huge number...

You should take a look at [https://support.mozilla.org/kb/latest-firefox-issues#os=mac&browser=fx9 this article] that discusses some of the issues with the latest build of Firefox.
There is some information in there that should help you to resolve your issue. Luckily, it is a very easy fix.

IMac monitor (my parents), the greys are so light and faint, they are almost impossible to see. especially in icalendar. i've gone into system preferences and i think i've tried everything there and checked the forums. no luck. any other suggestions?

Thank you. I didn't know about the universal access adjustment. All the way left is a little better, but still much fainter than on my own imac. I'm not sure why apple uses grey typeface, but it's so faint on this imac monitor that it was difficult to find the "reply" option on this post. Are there any other suggestions? thank you

I can no longer change my song names like i used to. i use to be able to right click and go to "get info" and then change the song name, artist and album, now i can't is there any other way to change the songs name and info

When I get songs and put them on my itunes accout on my computer I used to be able to rename them right clicking, going to "get info" and then renaming everything I wanted like song name, album and artwork. I also use to be able to click on the song then click and hold on it and be able to rename it. But all the songs I have gotten after the last update have not been able to be renamed in any of the old ways I use to be able to. Is there any other way to rename songs because I know I can't undo updates and that seems to be whats causing it.

You are describing an iTunes problem, not an iPod touch problem. Try posing in the iTunes forum.

TS3899 I upgraded my iphone 4 to ios 6 and now I can't get my work e-mail anymore. I've tried deleting the account and re-adding, per other forum suggestions, and still no luck. Also, there is no longer an "Advanced" section to enter information.

Help! I upgraded my iphone 4 to ios 6 and now one of my two emai accounts - my work account - no longer receives/sends emails. I checked my e-mail settings and they were correct. I then deleted the account and tried to re-add it, per discussions in other forums, and it won't verify the account. In addi tion, there was previously an Advanced section in the e-mail account setting, and now there isn't - don't know if that is part of the probem and the phone needs additional information that it's not asking for anymore . . . I'm beyond frustated. Many hours of lost productivity. Any suggestions? Can I got back to the previous version? I was thinking of buying new phone in next few months, but if this is resolved I'm leaving Apple.

In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

No sound on youtube or any other webpage

When I go to a website such as youtube.com or any other site that plays sound, it only plays through the speakers on my monitor. The speakers in my monitor do not work very well, so i bought a Edifier Surround Sound System. The surround sound works with
my Windows Media Player but not with webpages that play music or videos. I've already went through my Internet Options and the multimedia settings are checked, nothing is muted. Im so frustrated! Help!

Did it work before? When did this issue begin to occur? If it works before, system restore can be under consideration.
Please go into Internet Options>Advanced tab scroll down to Multimedia and make sure that "Play sounds in web pages" is check, click Apply/OK.
If it is already checked, uncheck it, click Apply/OK then go back and recheck it, click Apply/OK.
Meanwhile, does the sound work in the following website?

Meanwhile, it seems you have two output devices, please go to control panel-> sound->under playback tab, set the other device as default to test
the issue.

Thanks to this forum, I've found the redeye tool in iPhoto to be quite useful, but this wasn't the case before I found out about the Caps-Ctrl-9 trick that was posted in this forum.
Are there any other tricks that anyone has discovered in iPhoto that isn't mentioned in the help list?
And any speculation as to why these tools aren't mentioned in the help file? I mean, at first I was ready to give up on iPhoto because of the weak redeye. Why wouldn't they show us how to do this?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There is a hidden feature for changing the Redeye and Retouch tool size:
How to Change the Size of the Retouch and Red-Eye Removal Tool
Type Caps lockControl9
Undo caps lock
Click on the Retouch or Red-Eye Removal tool
The tab key will toggle between cursor types, a cross or a circle
The "[" and "]" keys decrease or increase the size accordingly.
NOTE: Using the "{" "}" keys will will change the value next to the circle and that represents the degree of change or intensity that the tool imparts on each pass.
Also check out the tip at the end of my signature for backing up the library database file on a frequent basis.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
