  • U400 has over clocked itself to max turbo boost at all times.

    Hi all,
    I have a U400 099329U with processor i5 2430M @ 2.4 GHz with turbo boost up to 3.0GHz.
Recently I noticed the unit getting quite hot with very slow charge times/high power drain on battery and noticed the Intel turbo boost monitor was always at the maximum of 3.0 GHz and would never drop. I lowered the max processor state to 99% in power management, now it stays at 2.4GHz with no turbo boost or energy saver modes. I have also returned the system to initial state and the problem still persists.
Any ideas as to why it started over clocking itself in the first place and how do I get things back to normal?
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Anyone?

  • How damaging is it to over clock a device

How damaging is it to over clock a device? I know over clocking is damaging. But is it the extra heat produced, or trying to use the capacitors to fast or something technical. If it is only heat, I can keep my MSI VGA card cool enough to over clock it.
Does a chip start to become damaged or work less effeciantly if you raise the temperature. The card may work better at 5 degrees more temperatur, but does this damage it, or is there a certian temperature range. (I'm guessing temperature damages it only)
I also thought most comanies disapproved of over clocking. Why does MSI seem to encourage it? Is this a bad or good thing?

Why not have the best video card for an extra 6months until the next best one comes out.  Or run new games on an older video card.  That's what makes it worth the effort and the small amount of risk.
If the overclocking/mod is done by someone who has a clue, and the reason to do so is to provide functionality to play games that require a higher frame rate or performance then one could say it may be justified. If one is not experienced in these areas and/or saved forever to obtain a card, overclocking may not be in the best interest to the user. Part of the problem is often many users lack the judgement or are driven to beat the latest benchmarks and end up with a keychain in the process. I can see overclocking towards the end of the lifespan of a high end card, but with todays latest and greatest..I don't see the point.
Heat is the determining factor and the killer to all components, not just higher voltage wich I believe increases heat. Heat causes faster deterioration and shortens the life of any component on a molecular level.

  • Over clocking an amd 2100XP

I’m just wondering if anyone out there has had any success over clocking an amd 2100XP tbird?

I have built a few systems with the Tbred B core, and all will overclock to 2.2ghz at default Voltage. The MSI board is the best, and make sure you get a TBred B revision of the 2100. Last time I checked http://www.newegg.com had it for $87 or so. Pretty dirt cheap if you ask me, considering you are basically buying a 2700+ or 2800+ for ~$90. I am running mine at [email protected] (166x13) and it's rock solid now. Like the previous post stated, make sure you have good memory, I'd recommend Muskin. Your PSU has to be good as well...and a good heat sink/fan combo. the SLK800 I think is pretty good.

  • Over clocking using core center

    over clocking using core center
ok rather a noob at this and thought I would try a safer way of overclocking.
The program ticked away up til 300mhz on the left hand monitor at which point I turned it off as a 50% increase in the FSB seemed rather too much.
Has anyne used this prog or can point me to any documents about what it does!

    thanks for the info.
the page below.... seems to show that you can over clock from core center on the desk top   do I have to change bios setting to manua to alow it to work or is the review a bit

Hello, I want to overclock my PC for better Graphics while playing games ..
Firstly I need to know is it safe to overclock a PC ?
what are the things involved in it ??
Kindly provide me a guide how to over clock my board
It is 'extremely' important to follow xmad's request for more information about your complete system.
Question #1, yes, it is 'reasonably' safe if guidelines & adherence to voltage and temperature limits are heeded.
Question #2, of primary importance is having hardware that 'is' OC'able to begin with. In addition to the hardware, it is normally just a matter of setting up the correct settings in the UEFI/BIOS. You will need some utilities such as CPU-Z, H/W Monitor, etc. Also, a digital multimeter is highly recommended.
Question #3, there are some 'basics', but every system is different and reacts different to tweaks and adjustments. When we know your components, it will make it easier to make suggestions and recommendations.

I don't know where the chipset has been manufactured (or who actually made the chips), but there's no reason to believe it'd be overclocked (rather, the usual thing to do to preserve battery life is to run the processors at lower clock speeds than what the hardware is really capable of).
In addition, there's no practical way to replace individual chips on phone circuit boards. You'd need the whole board replaced.

  • Aperture 3 report card - any feedback on over all performance so far?

Looking to shift from iPhoto 11 to Aperture 3.
I use iMac (just bought a few months ago).
I have over 40,000 photos in current iPhoto.
Looking to get feedback on what you feel are the greatest benefis and drawbacks from moving.
    Thanks all!

    FWIW:
Aperture vs. iPhoto (listing pros and cons of Aperture based on my experience only):
    Pros:
    More advanced organization capabilities
Better and more extensive metadata functions (both reading and adding)
Better image adjustment tools (including brushes for local adjustments)
    Greater control over export settings
RAW processing has some settings that can be adjusted in the RAW Fine Tuning brick
    Cons:
    Steeper learning curve
Can use a lot of disk space if you use the external editor function due to creation of TIFF or PSD files for sending to editor (especially true if your Master files are originally JPEG files)
Slow performance may be exhibited with images that need a lot of brushed adjustments applied
    Other thoughts:
When Aperture is performing well, it really can't be beat for convenience and control in workflow. If it becomes sluggish, it can be frustrating for some users. As TD commented, the free trial is a great way to see if it both meets your needs and performs well on your hardware.
Since one of my lenses is a kit lense with significant distortion and chromatic abberation on a Nikon D80, I also use a program called DxO Optics Pro when I shoot with that lense. That program is basically designed to be a 'batch' program where you run the images through it and it processes the images for defects automatically (based on lab specs they include in a 'module' which you download for your specific camera body / lense combination) and outputs either JPEG or TIFF (depending on user settings). I really like the results from this process when used for that lense. A huge time saver for lense defect issues in post processing.
If you are looking for speed, that may be of interest if you like the results of the batch processing (which can be modified in pretty much any way). That one also has a free trial and they offer good discounts now and then on the program (which might fit with iPhoto for you if you find Aperture not a good fit).
Hope that helps in some way.

  • Z10 won't send any emails; shows red clock. Server settings match those of my PC.

All of a sudden, my Z10 has started refusing to send emails. It goes through the motions, showing a 'transmit' icon for a second, and then just shows the Red Clock [of Doom]. I've checked my server settings many times, but they're the same as those on my PC, and in any case nothing changed in that respect between the time when all was well and now.
The emails have no attachments. They are short messages which shouldn't (and haven't been known to) cause any problems to the carrier.  I have done numerous battery pulls and power-offs; I have (since the problem started) updated to 10.2.0.424; none of these actions has helped.
The email providers seem to think there's nothing wrong at their end, so I need to establish before I get back to them that it definitely isn't a BB10 problem.  I would deeply welcome any advice.

It is not recomended for OS 10 to remove the battery to correct issues.
Try a reset: when powered on hold down the power button for 10 seconds.
You can also remove your email account, power off, power on  then reinstall it.
You can reset your phone to factory settings if you wish to see if it corrects your issue. Resetting to factory settings will wipe out all your data so you should save it first. To save all your stuff download and install BlackBerry Link on your computer from the link below. Resetting will not back-up the OS on your phone. Once you have downloaded and installed BlackBerry Link connect your phone to your computer and save your stuff. Once saved disconnect your phone from the computer.
To reset your phone: tap the Settings App, scroll down and tap Security and Privacy, tap Security Wipe, tap the blank box and enter blackberry.
Once Wiped reconnect your phone to your computer and install your stuff.

  • Is there any way to remove clock app from ipad

Help I need to remove the new clock application that comes with ios6 from my ipad.
I am a special education teacher and I have a student who is fixated on the clock and timer and always finds it no matter where I hide it.
I cannot block it with the controls. Any ideas???

    hehe
No the clock is now a pre-installed app. You cannot remove pre-installed apps.
Apps- I dont think there are any to block pre-installed apps(95% sure). Someone else might know a work around, but removing is a no. Sorry

  • Over Clocking Question

Hello this is just more of a question since I have never tried to overclock but have grown more curious about squeezing a few extra MHZ out of my processor, memory and video. I have all the latest drivers and software for my Nvidia 9600GT which are in SLI mode at normal settings but I also have MSI Core Center which is installed but never adjusted. The Bios settings are set to automatic I was not sure it to set to manual for Core Center or not. My question is more over if using the settings in Nvida control panel will be better or use the Core Center or if one will mess with the other? Im not looking for hardcore overclocking just enough to gain a bit of a performance boost is all

I would advise you to remove Core Center and do whatever OC'ing you do in BIOS. With the unlocked multiplier (which is the reason for the BE's existence) in the BE CPU's you can get easy OC by just upping the multiplier some. Your biggest performance gain would be the CPU OC, the smallest gain and probably not noticeable would be memory OC. As for any OC on VGA's I've never done any so I know very little about that and don't have anything to say on that subject.
Google and do some reading on overclocking the Black Edition CPU you have. There are a lot of OC forums on the web. A little bit of typing and a few mouse clicks opens up a world of information.

  • PSE8 - Any Real Improvement over PSE3?

I have been using PSE3 for several years but my new scanner came with PSE8 which I installed. But now regretting it cos it looks so different and I will have to waste time learning the new user interface. Before I uninstall PSE8, does anyone know how I can find out the IMPORTANT improvements that PSE8 made over PSE3?
I use Adobe Lightroom 3.6 so dont need to do any photo developing work in PSE. I also have Adobe Illustrator so dont need PSE for text etc.

Why not set-up the PSE8 Editor as your external editing app in Lightroom preferences. Most of the tools are the same as PSE3 and you don't need to use quick fix or guided edits.
You can then work right from the Lightroom Library.
You normally make the round trip from Lightroom as follows:
    1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings
    2) Edit in Elements; then Ctrl+S to overwrite Lightroom export copy
    3) Ctrl+W to close in Elements and update Lightroom thumbnail.
