Any 'Power On' button for the Apple keyboard?
It is possible to boot the Mac G5 without pressing its rear power button? There is a handy 'Power On' button for the Apple Keyboard named 'i-Cue' (see below), but it no longer works with the newer Macs (G5 and Mactel).
A shame that Apple removed the power button of their keyboards years ago. So, what I am looking for is something similar to this, but working with the new Macs:

You can have your Mac under the desk, yet it can be easily turned on from the keyboard position. Simply clips on to the Apple Pro Keyboard

You can't do it via USB because USB doesn't provide that function. When the computer is off, there is no power on the USB, so nothing connected to the USB can do anything when the computer is off. Earlier Macs that had this function used a modified USB. Newer Macs use standards USB, probably starting with the introduction of USB 2.0 to the Mac.
Why not put the Mac to sleep, instead of shutting it down? The power consumption is about the same, and you can wake it from the keyboard.

switch off the power to the Mac rather than going
through it's shutdown procedure. Pulling the power on
a running computer may cause all sorts of problems
and should be avoided unless it's absolutely
necessary to do it.
I'd agree with that most certainly - though the old G4 would allow itself to be shut down and then have the remote power switch thrown. I've not had reason to test whether a mini would, or would simply immediately attempt a restart.

Installing a driver for the Apple Keyboard in Boot camp windows
I recently installed Boot Camp, VMware and Vista on my Mac so that I could move all of my computing on to one computer (I use a few programs that aren't available for the iMac). In Windows I cannot use the number pad for input - I can only use the numbers just above the letters. This is a major inconvenience because I input numbers often. I have tried to search for the driver for the Apple Keyboard that is compatible with windows, but have been unsuccessful.
Anyone know of a fix for this?
Thanks!I tried putting in the Leopard disk and running setup.exe and that went through the motions of installing all of the drivers, but after I restarted the windows machine it still doesn't recognize my keyboard. This may be a system wide issue, because when I work in Windows it also tells me that I do not have a camera installed for video chat. At first I thought this was just part of the price I had to pay to have a Mac and use windows on it, but now I'm thinking that my drivers were not installed properly because I know a camera is installed internally (obviously - its a less than one year old iMac all-in-one).
Can anyone think of something that I'm not doing? I have gone into the control panel in the Windows machine and tried to update my driver, but it keeps telling me that the driver is correct (it has windows driver for a standard ps/2 keyboard). -
my ipad froze during a upgrade. it might have run out of battery. i brought it with me to work and i'm charging it but it keeps displaying a black screen. it wont even let me power it off.
If it is totally black, all the time, and you can never see anything on the screen, I agree with stef7 - it needs replacing. Is it still under the manufacturer's warranty?
Is the proximity sensor (dot(s) on top of the phone) covered by a case or screen protector? That would make the phone "think" you are holding the phone at your ear to talk, and will turn off the screen to save battery.. -
Apple makes it easy to switch keyboard layouts, but not when it comes to the physical layout. 'Bout the only way to do that is by finding stickers with the letters and symbols on them to stick on the keys. And that's where I'm running into difficulties. Where do you find the **** things? I remember sheets of rub-on letters and symbols people like wargame designers would use for mock ups, but I haven't seen them around recently. Would anybody know what I'm talking about, and where I might find something like that?
Nothing like a keycap please. Such things are over produced and over priced. Not only that, for the Apple Keyboard they're also over sized. It gets confusing typing dvorak when the layout is qwerty.

The skins you found links to I aint gonna touch. I'm not about to pay $35.00 to fugly my keyboard. There are bonafide keyboard stickers out there however. I did find keyboard stickers at Amazon. I'll be checking out some of the local computer stores where I live to see if they have anything. to see if they have anything. My thanks for the assist. -
I want to buy a new apple tv but it used hdmi cables and my house is only wired for analog. Is there any way I can use the apple tv on analog cables?

It's do-able, but I don't think it's a great idea.
DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)

I have the app "viPlay" on my iPad and iPhone. Is there any way that it could be available for the Apple TV? I'd like to access my personal videos from my hard drive using the Apple TV through the 'viPlay' app.

I bough a Mac Pro 2010 second hand and deleted all the files without backing up now is asking me for the Apple ID of the person who installed maverick,any ideas
If the Mac's firmware was updated, you can try this Internet Recovery:
Hold down Command + Option + R during restart or bootup; hold until you see a spinning globe (takes up to 10 minutes). Once in the Utilities window, use Disk utility to wipe the drive, then return to the window and choose to reinstall OS X. If that works, the OS will be installed without being tied to an Apple ID.
FWIW, if the firmware was updated, you will not be able to use the Snow leopard disk to install - I just did several tests and it does not work. You can, however, possibly install the SL onto an external drive and then clone it to the internal or (if you have a clone), boot from that and clone it back - I just tested that as well.
If the firmware was not updated, then you can use the SL install disk. -
Why do Orange and EE blame Apple for the delays in unlocking my iPhone. 10 months now. What is the exact process that these companies have to go through to unlock an iPhone and is Apple in any way to blame for the delays.
Indeed how long does Apple take to carry out its part of the process.
It seems to me that Orange are just trying to stall me despite the fact that I am out of contract with them now. I originally paid to have the phone unlocked back last November. This was never done.
I have phoned them numerous times over the last two months but still they haven't done it. Can anyone advise me and has anyone had similar problems with them.
ThanksI certainly understand that only Orange can unlock my phone. My annoyance is that they blame Apple so I am keen to know what exactly is Apple's involvement.
I presume that Orange have to tell Apple that the phone has been authorised for unlocking by Orange and that Apple then notes that in some way on iTunes so that the user can then complete the process on iTunes.
What I would like to know is how much time Apples part in this process takes.
I would also like to make contact with others who have had similar problems.

I started to have connectivity issues with a linksys router. The linksys rep suggested ...Check from Apple if they have some particular ports for the Apple TV that we might need to open on the router, anyone have any suggestions for this?

My iPhone will not respond even once it is hooked to iTunes nor will it respond when I hit the power (reset) button. The screen mentions that the system is checking for "borrowed blocks" (small writing in the top right corner).
Are you using the charger and cable that came with the phone?
Are you using an unauthorized third party charger? -

Why is the gift package not available for the Apple Wireless Keyboard?
It's available for the Apple Magic Mouse. Is it the size of the box? Or perhaps the shape of it?

How about Hot Keys for the Wireless Keyboard?
Hello all.
Been using the iPad 2 for about 2 weeks since I got it. Had to "ditch" the iPad Keyboard Dock and use a regular Apple Wireless Keyboard. The good thing is now using the TwelveSouth iPad Stand, I can orientate the iPad to any of the two positions I want.
But I miss the special hot keys on Keyboard Dock, namely the Home and Lock keys. Kind of inconvenient pushing the Home button on the iPad 2, especially having to double-press for multitasking.
If only the iPad's iOS allows some sort of configuration for hot keys on the wireless keyboard. I do notice that the F5 and F6 are empty.
CheersI would only hope that the keyboard would turn off, not just when it isn't pairing with the computer, but for the keyboard that is paired (mine is) it would be best if it turned off after a period of no use. Here is what one man, not an Apple tech, said about the A1314 keyboard he was selling on ebay:
"The keyboard automatically powers down when you're not using it and turns on instantly as soon as you start typing. This intelligent power management means you'll get up to nine months of battery life based on average usage patterns. It also has an on/off switch for when you're away from your computer for a long time."
This doesn't indicate how many minutes of no use it needs before it 'powers down' (doesn't sound as good as really being turned off) and it also doesn't address the issue of knowing if your keyboard is on or off via the power button.
Even my dog electric training collar blinks twice when it is turned on and blinks three times when it is turned off. The Apple keyboard needs two indicator lights, one to tell you if it is searching for pairing and the other strictly as an on off indicator. I'm not going to loose any sleep over this, but it does seem like somebody was sleeping in the design department as this keyboard is really cool, but it doesn't convey the basic on/off information to the user. -

Yeah yeah...I know..I could lift screen on my Macbook and push the power button as usual.My MacBook wakes up by itself. I haven't been able to determine anything that might be triggering it. I've tried all the fixes I've been able to find in previous discussions, but it still wakes up randomly.
