Any problems with safari after upgrade to 6.2.3
i upgraded to Mountain Lion and now Safari will not open. safari is version 6.2.3. I have installed all upgrades to Mountain Lion. Any suggestions for Safari?
The upgrade may have caused some kind of conflict with Safari.
Unfortunately, on a Mac running v10.8 Mountain Lion, there is no standalone Safari installer.
The only way to reinstall Safari is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery. -
Problem with Java after Software Update to 10.5.7
Hi,
I am facing problem with Java after having run Software upgrades.
Here is the whole story. I recently moved to iMac 10.5.6 from PowerPc 10.4. On this new machine I was having problem running a 3rd party application, which requires JVM. As this application worked well on Tiger, I decided to upgrade JVM on my iMAC using Software Upgrade(was I insane!!). As I like my systems to be updated (as with linux on my personal machine) I clicked "install all". As a result I have the following upgrades run on my machine:
2009-05-20 13:12:01 +0200: Installed "Mac OS X Update Combined" (10.5.7)

Is it possible to downgrade to mountain lion with the help of a time machine backup after having updated to Mavericks?
Just to be clear, if by downgrade you mean uninstall, then the answer is technically, no.
You can't uninstall an OS. You can erase and re-install the old OS, but if you don't have a prior backup of your data, you'll lose it during the erase procedure. -
Any Problems with Safari 4.1.3?
I've searched this forum for "Safari 4.1.3" and had only two hits, and I've already archived my current Safari (4.0.5) just in case I need to return to it.
Has anyone experienced any problems at all after updating to Safari 4.1.3 under OS 10.4.11 on a G4 MDD?
Thanks!exMacEmp wrote:
I was having zero problems with 4.1.3 on my ibook G4, OS X 10.4.11 UNTIL I took leave of my senses and installed a tool bar from TheFreeDictionary.com
That has corrupted something in Safari (still not fixed after removing the toolbar) so that I can't command-F search half the pages I visit, and URLS in new tabbed windows don't reflect their real location.
/sigh...
@exMacEmp
I totally understand the feeling of /sigh... when mucking up what was previously working.
You could probably just go to your home/user library and remove whatever that toolbar installed (look at their release notes, installation notes, etc and find where it installs stuff) probably in the InputManagers OR Internet Plug-Ins folders. SEE THE kb link below for the apple how-to
OR use Appzapper (find at macupdate.com, allows several uses in demo mode), drag safari onto it's little blank window, have it show all your safari app & safari installed stuff, (copy & save the safari folders/prefs on the desktop) BUT only zap/remove the actual safari APP, not the other files, prefs, folders, etc.
Then reinstall the safari or re-run the installer.
I recommend never to use those kind of toolbars, gizmos, etc from sites like that (so many issues, esp security).
If you need to install toolbars and any kind of browser gizmos, I think it's better try them on firefox for mac using their add-ons console. Much easier to try there, then disable, than mucking up safari in my experience. fwiw
also: you know that native OSX 10.4.x apps (& thus Safari) has this great dictionary shortcut: Ctrl-Cmd-D the capability of live look ups which displays a little *popup dictionary* right?

{quote:http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3230}
Symptoms
Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues.
Unsupported third-party add-ons may add features to Safari or change its appearance. If you use unsupported third-party add-ons you may encounter issues such as these:
* Safari quits unexpectedly
* Safari runs slowly
* Safari is unable to download files
* Other unexpected behavior
Resolution
Use the add-on's uninstaller, if possible
To resolve the issues: Quit Safari, then remove any unsupported third-party add-ons you've installed (see if the add-on's installer includes an uninstall feature).
Then, open Safari again. If this fixes the issue you were having, check the website of the software's developer to see if there is an updated version available, or avoid using the add-on.
Manually uninstall third-party add-ons
If the software doesn't have an uninstaller feature, quit Safari and try manually removing the third-party add-on files. These files are usually installed in one or more of the following locations:
* /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
* /Library/Input Methods/
* /Library/InputManagers/
* /Library/ScriptingAdditions
* ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
* ~/Library/Input Methods/
* ~/Library/InputManagers/
* ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions
The first four locations listed are in the root-level Library on your hard disk, not the user-level Library in your Home folder. The tilde (~) represents your Home folder (choose Home from the Go menu in the Finder).
If the issue is resolved by removing items from the above locations, return the items one at a time and test Safari. That way you can determine which of them is causing the issue. Once identified, remove the problematic item and put the others back. Check for updates to the items that are found to cause issues, or report the issue to the add-on developer.
Note: When removing items from the above locations, do not put them in the Trash and empty the Trash. If removing the items does not resolve the issue, you can put them back where they came from. In Mac OS X v10.6, you can use the Put Back feature of the Trash to automatically put them back where they came from.

Any problems with Adobe CS5.5 and the Maverick system?
Has anyone had any problems with Adobe CS5.5 and the new Maverick OS? I don't want to install if there are issues. Thanks!
First thing I would suggest is to upgrade your server OS to a newer version if possible. Secondly try removing the apps out of the allowable apps list and instead change it so that you allow the apps that are within the specific application folder, ex: Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5
I had similar problems with CS5 apps and by adding the apps by allowable folder instead it corrected my problem. Granted, if you have savvy users, there is the potential to open a can of worms here but it was the only way I could get it to work for "standard" non-admin user types. -
Great problems with Safari after update to IOS 5
Hallo,
for a few days I have updatet my iPad 2 from IOS 4 to IOS 5. Now after the update the navigation under Safari on websites with DHTML-navigation doesn´t works. Take a look for example on wepages like this:
http://www.firstlex.de or http://www.ischeidung.de .
You will see, that the horizontal-navigation opens only for fewer as a second and it is not possible to open the navigation-submenus!
With Safari under IOS 4 it works perfectly! The navigation-submenus stands still and it was possible to open the navigation-submenu that you want with to klicks on it. Allthough it is possible to open the sub-submenus under IOS 4, but now not more under IOS 5 !
Did anybody have a solution for this problem???
Thank you for replys!
Greetings Mikeam13For Safari crashing then you could try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
Some people have also suggested turning off iCloud on the iPad
In terms of the thumbnails, then Safari on iOS 5 uses tabbed browsing and you can't go back to thumbnails. You can try leaving feedback and maybe in a future update we'll get the option : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html -

[Enlightenment E17] Problems with EFM after last Update [solved]
Hello Folks!
I'm having some very ugly problems with my Enlightenment E17 Desktop after the last full system upgrade. This problem has already been reported to the German Arch Linux community, but no response yet, but I can't figure out that nobody else troubles the same probs.
This is the following what I get when running pacman -Ss e17-svn
community/e-svn 42849-1 (e17-svn)
Enlightenment window manager DR17 (aka e17)
community/e_dbus-svn 42682-1 (e17-libs-svn e17-svn)

community/evas-svn 42855-1 (e17-libs-svn e17-svn)
A hardware-accelerated canvas API for X-Windows
The problems that occur to me are following: I'm using EFM as file manager. It's not the best one, but it fits into the E17 concept - simple, lightweight, fast - and thats what I like. But, after the latest update, when I click a folder on my desktop, EFM now comes up in a stupid very tiny window. The window is so small, that I need to resize it every time to see any content. Before the update, everything worked fine, the EFM windows came up as they should.
Another problem I'm having with some applications, e.g. the Okular-Viewer, is that I'm not able to size down the window - it is always in full screen, and there's no chance to move it up (even not on the desktop preview widget) to move it down. Okular is always 100% filling my screen (over the height, only), and I'm not able to size it down. In the previous version, I didn't got this problems.
My question is now: is there any way to install the previous Enlightenment E17 packages? They where much better that this one... or will another update come out soon??
Thanks in advance for any help, any help is appreciated!

If that doesn't help...

If you find some mirror which keeps outdated packages that should not be a problem. Be sure to downgrade all of e17 packages (also some packages were deprecated and thus removed from the server during the last upgrade so you'd need to have those as well. You may still have those on your system though)
About a quick update, depends if Ican replicate it and if there is an easy fix. These things happen now and then with pre-alpha software when they do make major code changes. I try to test every update locally before putting it live but I of course can't test every single feature.

Problems with Macbook after Software Update
I haven't updated my Macbook in a long time, so I decided it was time I probably did. Software Update had updates for iTunes, Quicktime, and a 2009-Security Update. Everything seemed to be going okay. After the downloading and installing finished, it said the Security Update couldn't be installed and moved it to the trash. Then it prompted me to restart my computer because the other two installed okay.
After restart, when my computer started back up, my Macbook is messed up. The doc is missing. I open a finder window, and it shows the main folders, but all the things on the right (where it shows the drive, applications, and such) is missing. I tried to back up my files, but it can't even read there is a blank disc inserted (keeps asking me to insert a blank disc). And it wont let me shut down my computer, or restart it. I click restart, and it seems like it accepts it, but it just doesn't do anything. The dashboard wont show up when you hit F12. This mac is all messed up.
I don't know what happened here, all I installed was iTunes and Quicktime from the Software Update (security update didn't install), and all this happened. Any idea what happened and how I can fix this?
I'm using Mac OSX Tiger 10.4.11.Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There's a variety of things you could try, but first as to why it is doing this. Probably your drive was slightly corrupted. If it was minor you might not have noticed it, but when the updates tried to install, the whole thing compounded and led to a whole bunch of things missing.
First, try to repair your drive. Boot from the System installer disc that came with your computer or is the one for the version you currently have on there, select language if applicable, choose utilities, run Disk Utility and verify (and repair if necessary) the drive. You can verify a drive from DU on your main drive while booted but I have found this can result in incorrect reporting of errors. To repair your drive you have to run it from a drive other than the boot drive anyway.
Next, boot from your drive in [Safe Mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393] and repair permissions. You can repair permissions while booted from the installer disc but this uses the permissions configuration on the installer disc which may be out of date if you have run any updates on your computer. Booting your computer to Safe Mode restricts the number of things running on your computer while permissions are being run and does a bit of spring cleaning at the same time.

+Summary of above from BDaqua+ (couldn't have said it better):
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer (Edit: Do not use this disc if it is not the same general version as what you have currently on your computer, e.g. use a Tiger disc for a Tiger drive, not a Panther disc), then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes."
Report back after you have done this. It may be that you have to use a more powerful utility such as Diskwarrior.
Once the drive is repaired you can try re-applying the two updates, though often it takes a full archive and install, plus re-application of all updates, to get everything working again.

*In most cases _make sure_ you select "Preserve Users & Settings"*
Finally, on updating:
Updating
Certain steps appear to minimize the risk of an update producing problems.
Number one is to make sure you have a bootable clone backup of your computer in case you do need to back out of it again. This is the only guaranteed way of not having to worry about the results of an update.
Some like to boot from their installer discs or an external backup and verify (and if necessary repair) their internal drives as well as drive permissions. This is done with Disk Utility. You can verify a drive while booted from the same drive but sometimes this produces spurious errors. Repairing a drive (if necessary) has to be done while booted from another disk.

You can also go to the step of booting into safe mode to do the install.

I like to download the update onto my computer and install it from there rather than let Software Update do it. I know a few people who had problems with doing the update via software updater found a manual install to work.
Repair permissions again afterward.
It helps to only install one update at a time and to run the computer for a while to make sure it is behaving well.
The more cautious even like to unplug third party peripherals (see [comment by BDaqua|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9040746#9040746]).
Almost all of the above steps (except backup) have been questioned (e.g., [Permissons repair|http://www.macworld.com/article/52220-3/2006/08/repairpermissions.html] as to necessity. Probably many people have done successful updates without doing them. I say they can't hurt, they can very likely do good (especially if your computer isn't regularly maintained), so why not do them to be safe?

Is there any problem with 10.4.9 update?
After running software update to 10.4.9 my G4 powerbook hung on startup - after login seemed normal enough only to freeze with no dock, no menubar... I forced it to restart and it seemed ok for a while. Then when trying to wake it from sleep the screen went black and I had to force it to power down. Seemed fine after a safe boot.
G5 powermac - screen froze, on restart 3 beeps (ran AHT and it says the RAM's fine). Forced it to power down, on restart got POST after a delay of about 5 seconds longer than normal, but no video. Then the fan ramped up to full speed Forced it to shut down again before starting up in a safe boot. After fsck and permissions check,it now seems ok.
All this occurred after using software update to 10.4.9.
I've had some pretty nasty problems with the G5 since the powersupply had to be replaced, and the AASP sent the machine back to me with a test logic board left inside. I won't be taking my machine back to that particular central London AASP any time soon. They eventually took the machine back to fit a brand new logic board. I'm guessing these latest problems could be down to the update since both machines are having problems. Does any of this sound familiar?
ThanksI have been experiencing very poor performance from my imac and as a result i have decided to wipe everything after two pain staking nights of backing things up. After which I proceeded to update it and guess what? errors popped up while updating a few of them. so i decided to instead update it one at a time and found out that quicktime and 10.4.9 were the problems. After my 10.4.9 update I found that I was having the same issues as before:
1.0 my seagate external 400gb hard drive cannot be recognised although both my western digital(s) and maxtor external drive had no problems
2.0 when unmounting any external drive (including flash drives and ipod) it will take a good few minutes and sometimes even longer. While it is unmounting I am not able to use my mac at all
3.0 slower overall performance in dashboard, finder, etc... the list goes on
I am very sure that the 10.4.9 update is not for everyone as for now I wiped my hard drive again and revert to my safe 10.4.8. I really hope that apple can do something about this as I have been to the genius bar (apple store) and it seems that I am the only one complaining about these issues.
Really disappointing after spending nearly 2grand pounds for this....

Has anyone had trouble with safari after having their hard drive replaced?
I received an email about the recall on hard drives for the iMacs and took it to my local apple store to have it replaced. I brought it home today and started it up to find safari will not open. Whenever I try to use safari it brings up a prompt saying safari quit unexpectedly and I can either click "ok" or "reopen". When I click "reopen" it only brings back the same prompt.
I called the apple store and they redirected me to the apple phone support number. Apple phone support would not let me speak with someone without paying twenty dollars. I am not about to pay for problems caused by apple's faulty parts. I called the store back and I am currently waiting to hear back from a manager.
Any trouble shooting ideas would be much appreciated!!!I had my HD replaced under the recall program. I am running 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.7 on a 2.8GHz iMac.
I haven't noticed any significantly different behavior of Safari since having my HD replaced and using Time Machine to restore my data. The only thing I've run across in about 2 weeks is that Safari's Preferences panel takes a bit longer to load than I remember.
One thing you can try is launching Safari from your computer's main Applications folder. If it still crashes, you can also try downloadng a fresh copy here: http://www.apple.com/support/safari/
Have you ever checked out Firefox? I personally like it better than Safari because it offers more security options, such as greater control over cookies, and supports many useful privacy and security plugins. -
Problems with waking after firmware update ...
Hi ya'll - quick question.
Did the latest firmware update last night and have noticed that waking the computer from sleep has become a problem, maybe once every three times I try to wake it? The backlight visibly turns on and illuminates the black screen, but the password box dosen't ever pop up, leaving me with a plain cursor. I'll try to hit random buttons (not that I think it'll help, but you know) and the 'Funk' sound plays, so I know the computer is working and is on. I have to hold the power button and restart it everytime. Any reason this might be happening now, after the update? It used to every now and then, and had sllooow wake times before the update, the latter of which has been fixed. The update was performed right and completed itself, etc.
Thanks for any help!i also have problems waking it up since the efi firmware update! i primarily use the macbook only with an exernal display and wake it up by plugging in the power, lan, display and usb connectors, i.e. quite often, i don't even open the lid. since the firmware update, i regularly get a light blue screen and nothing happens. i then have to restart it through the power button as well.

Tecra S1 - problems with touchpad after BIOS-update to 2.50
Hi,
after the BIOS-update to version 2.5, the touchpad doesn't do anything. Starting in the docking station, the optional PS2 mouse works without any problem. Starting undocked, the touchpad doesn't work anymore. Normally - before update - the touchpad started it's work immediately after undocked booting.
What can I do to reactivate the touchpad???
WankyHi Jeffrey,
thank you for your tips!
First I tried the hotkeys. All hotkey combinations work successful - except for the touchpad key F9...
After reinstallation of the touchpad driver, undocking the Tecra and disconnecting the USB-mouse I started with the Toshiba HWSetup tool to switch the functionality of the pointing devices to simultaneously. After installing the touchpad driver and repeated booting of the Tecra -> no progress.
After all examinations, no step further... I'm tired...
If you have another ideas, please let me know.
Kind regards,
Uwe
