Any problemes with App. ONYX and Mountain Lion ?

What could be the problems using Onyx ?

How to maintain a Mac
1. Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; make them independent of each other. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
2. Keep your software up to date. In the Software Update preference pane, you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis. This is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible.
3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this stuff is useless, or worse than useless.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
As a rule, the only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Use your computer; don't fuss with it.
Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it. Otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
The free anti-malware application ClamXav is not crap, and although it’s not routinely needed, it may be useful in some environments, such as a mixed Mac-Windows enterprise network.
4. Beware of trojans. A trojan is malicious software (“malware”) that the user is duped into installing voluntarily. Such attacks were rare on the Mac platform until sometime in 2011, but are now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous.
There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it — the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness — not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable.
Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be acquired directly from the developer. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from a web page without your having requested it should go straight into the Trash. A website that claims you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, is rogue.
In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications and Installer packages that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most users don't.
5. Don't fill up your boot volume. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a boot failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Macs that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem. While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage consumption and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
If storage space is running low, use a tool such as the free application OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move rarely-used large files to secondary storage.
6. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” "defragmenting the drive," “running periodic scripts,” “dumping logs,” "deleting temp files," “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," "checking for bad blocks," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems, not for prevention.
The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.

  • Mouse problems with Illustrator CS6 and Mountain Lion

The mouse in Illustrator selects and deselects as it moves over buttons and cells:
    1. In Graph data the cells the mouse passes over go dark grey if not already selected, then deselect if they are selected. This makes it very difficult to use the data cells.
    2. In Layers window, where I may have 100s of layers, I want to hide one layer or more which are not necessarily adjacent to each other. Illustrator hides all of the layers it passes. It is very difficult to click and unclick the show/hide button (and also the lock button). Ditto with show or unlock toggle layer. I had to start up in Lion in which Illustrator does not have this problem in order to get a job finished in time.
Seems there needs to be a fix for Illustrator to work properly in Mountain Lion.
Has anyone found such a fix?

No I don't have Right-Zoom (don't know what it is), but I have the same problem with Apple's Track Pad, which I don't use much and I only use the inbuilt software.
I use Kensington Slim Blade and before that LogiTech's marble mouse and both need their software to work properly.
All of them work fine in Lion and earlier. Could it be that Adobe has overlooked some new aspect that’s in Mountain Lion which, in my case, needs to be fixed for Illustrator?

  • Driver Problems with CanoScan 9000F and Mountain Lion?

I have recently taken delivery of a MacBookPro with Mountain Lion. I used Migration Assistant from an older MacBook and all seems to have gone well except for my CanoScan 9000F. This refused to load the MP Navigation software, even though I downloaded the latest drivers. I am a heavy user of the Scanner as I move towards a Paperless Office .
Does anyone have experience of this combination of Scanner and Lap Top? Thank you.

I am using Mountain Lion on a 2008 MBP and an Epson R3000 printer.  I can not get prints to size to my paper.  In aperture I am choosing custom since there is no option for 11.7X16.5.  I have set the print size to the same and still it does not work.  I tried both landscape and portrait but that did not work.

  • Anyone having printer problems with adobe cs5 and mountain lion

I can print one copy in adobe cs5 but if I hit the print button it shuts down the program.  Anyone having this problem besides me?

Are the drivers for your printer are up to date? You probably can print one copy cause it doesn't access the option window in your application.

  • Canon 860 Series (Pixma) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips

After spending several hours sorting out Canon Pixma OSX problems here are my thoughts:
Canon 860 Series (Pixma 868) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips
    Problem:
    - New imac and MacBook Pro 2012 (OSX 10.8.2) had a problem using Canon Pixma 868 printer on network and would not scan or print using Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print), which has advanced scanning and photo printing functions.
    - When I connected the canon printer to my imac, OSX 10.8.2 automatically downloaded and installed drivers for Canon 860 series printer. I could then add the new printer (select ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”) and printer would work while connected via USB but could not get to print or scan over network wifi.
    - The original Canon 860 Series CD does not work with 10.8 and the manual / online instructions did not make sense (as based on CD install).
    Solution:
    1) Install Canon Printer Drivers and Software (from official Canon site)
Go to canon support site, review FAQ, then download and install following Pixma 860 Series software & drivers for OSX 10.8 (links see below). The version I downloaded is in brackets but check for updated version. Full instructions are below.
Canon 860 Series Drivers & Software  for OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion:
The base software and drivers needed for using Canon 860 Series on Mac OS X 10.8 (USB) are
    1 Printer Driver
(Canon MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (03-Aug-2012))
    2 Scanner Driver
(Canon MX860 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (03-Aug-2012))
    3 Network Tool
(Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac (27-Dec-2012)
Canon Software for using advanced printing and scanning functions (while connected to network)
    4 Solution Menu
    (Canon Solution Menu Ver. 1.4.1 (27-Jul-2012 ))
    5 MP Navigator EX
(Canon MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 (02-Auf-2012))

    4. Choose type of document
    Downloads or FAQ
If you have problems installing the software under 10.8, see the FAQ on Canon site. You will need to allow software installs from “unidentified developers by using “Control” Key or by changing your system preferences)
    2) Check Canon Printer and Software Working while connected via USB
Once you have downloaded and installed drivers and software and restarted computer, check that the printer and Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print) are working via USB.  Open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App) and make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it shows the correct SSID Wifi settings (under the Canon IJ Network Tool App ‘Setup menu’).  This is normally done as part of the automatic install but worth double checking
    3) Add new network printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”).
After you have checked USB printing turn off printer, unplug the USB cable and shutdown the Canon IJ Network Tool App.
Then turn the printer back on and wait 30s. Then add a new printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”). Once you select “+” (add new printer), wait 10-30s for the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer to appear in the new window eg Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) (Kind: “Canon IJ Network”)
DO NOT ADD THE MX 860 SERIES BONJOUR SCANNER (the Bonjour Scanner is the built-in software, is not needed and often appears first on the add printer list).  The Canon scanner can be accessed used through the MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 software (which has much better functions)
You will now have two Printer Canon MX860 (USB) and Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network). Set the Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network) as default and test print and scan
If the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer does not appear, check the printer and make sure that the printer can see the wifi network. On the printer select Menu / Settings / Device Settings / Lan Settings / WLAN Setting List.  It should say WLAN Active, identify the SSID and have an IP address
If the printer can not see the Wifi Network, plug the USB cable back in, then open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App). Make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it has your SSID settings (under setup), if it has this info, restart the computer and the printer and try again

  • Problems with connection to the Mountain Lion

Someone is having problems with connection on Mac Mountain Lion? I did a clean install and the connection is unstable.

  • Isolated dual boot with OS mavericks and mountain lion

I just created a dual boot between mavericks and mountain lion (1 physical drive with two partitions) but I'm having troubles where they each see each other.  Bin/ lib/ etc are fine (i think) as they are added via environment vars but it seems as though the spotlight privacy directories are shared.  For instance, I thought I could simply add the other partition to the Spotlight Privacy list, ie while using mountain lion add /Volumes/Mavericks to the privacy list.  However, when I added the volume in one, it also appears in the other.  Another issue I've encountered is that while compiling on ML, I was getting errors complaining about the 10.9 sdk.
So, can anyone advise on the proper way to isolate these two operating systems with a dual boot scenario?
    Thanks
    Adam

Create two partitions on the hard drive. Install each OS on its own partition. This will only work if the computer can be booted from either version.

Is anyone else having trouble after thy downloaded Mountain lion x with iMessages mine isnt linking to my computer because it keeps saying i have a  registration error. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it

    HI,
People who have had computer that has had the Logic/motherboard replaced during repair or refurbishment that has not has the Mac Serial Number Flashed to the board have found that iMessage in particular have not been able to "register".
A current purchase of Mountain Lion will tend to give you the latest version which as of Thursday (12 th Mar) is OS X 10.8.3
You can use System Information to find if the Serial Number is there as it appears under the Hardware section.
If it is missing you need to get to an Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider who can flash the info to the board.

  • Hanging problem with Adobe CS6 in Mountain Lion

I recently upgraded my retina Macbook pro to Mountain Lion and was having some trouble with Adobe CS6 apps hanging on startup among other things (including iCal crashing on startup)
I did a clean install of Mountain Lion and Manually rebuilt my applications folder so that Adobe MAster COllection was installed freshly on a clean install of ML.
Now it is still sporadically hanging when I try to open Photoshop, Bridge or other Adobe apps. The only thing that seems to fix it is a restart which is inconvenient when you're in the middle of work.
    ANy ideas?

Thanks for this. I had heard of the fonts problem some people have had. All my fonts were freshly installed by either the system or Adobe when I installed Master Collection. Following your advice, I just verified every font and the only problem that showed up (as you had predicted) was a minor duplication which I corrected. So, it seems unlikely to be the fonts.
As for your other point, I have been using Final Cut Pro X and that has worked fine. The only other app that has given me trouble has been Calendar which seems to get strangely stuck sometimes while it is updating. Makes me wonder if there's something going on with the network I'm using.
One thing I hadn't thought of was that it could be a problem with gfx card switcher. This seems unlikely but I'll try disabling it and see if that helps.
Weirdly, today when I had this issue, Photoshop loaded up ok but then hung when I tried to load any file into it. Bridge wouldn't start at all. I didn't try the others. Yesterday I was having problems with Illustrator.
Anyway, I see what you mean about it not being a widespread problem - which is why I started this thread. It seems no one else is having any issues. If anyone else knows what I should look for in my configuration please let me know.

  • Problem with unpacking files in Mountain Lion (Error 2)

When I try to pack or unpack files there only come up errors since I updated to ML.
"Error 2 - no file or folder existing". Seems to be a sandbox issue, I tried "The Unarchiever.app" and there it said the OS-sandbox doesn't allow this action. I'm getting kind of annoyed by all the ML-bugs, more problems in the last 7 days since updating than in the 2 years before using Snow Leopard and Lion...
Can anyone help me with this one?
    Thanks!

If you are using any system utilities that empty system cache, stop, as they may corrupt files in your operating system.  If you are using any system add ons, make doubly sure they are Mountain Lion compatible.

Re: Is anyone having issues with Pages 09 or Keynote 09 after updating to Mountain Lion?
    Aug 6, 2012 3:04 PM (in response to Sara167)
This is what FINALLY worked for me after reinstalling and uninstalling and doing everything else mention above, and with a call to Apple's Support.
Move the applications into the trash (of course) and then make sure you remove the folder called "iWork '09" in your Hard Drive Library (not your User Library) under Application Support. You can throw away your preferences too if you want, but I didn't. Then do a clean install. And THEN open the Mac App store and run the auto update (or just select Software Update from the apple menu).
At first I thought it was too simple of a fix, but it indeed fixed everything. All iWork apps opened, opened files (they were saying they couldn't be opened) and Keynote finally worked (it was crashing and erroring out). I can now use all iCloud features, and everything, no problem.
I am pretty tech savvy and felt silly for not even thinking of this and how easy it was to fix. I even used an app uninstaller to make sure it removed all of iWork's little bits, but it didn't do that last folder.  It has been causing problems for a week and am so glad I contacted customer support. You can contact them if you just got Mountain Lion. Just sign up to have them call you or give them a call if this doesn't work for you.
Would love to hear if this worked for other people.
This worked perfectly, I've been fighting with Numbers and Pages for a couple of weeks trying to get them to update, because each time I would open any of my documents/files it would pop a window saying there was an update available, bring me to the Mac App Store then do nothing, no update would show.  After following the procedure in the post you linked it worked.  I'm finally updating.  Whew, saved me money, I really didn't want to have to purchase all those again from the App Store.

  • Problem with my Mac running mountain lion not connecting to server

    Hi there,
I have a problem connecting to the HDD shared on my local network. As far as I understand this might be a Mountain Lion (10.8.4) problem, because all my other devices can connect to it (even my iphone throught an app called FileExplorer).
I read that it might be related to a Samba problem, but I tried to install SMBUp and I still cannot connect to my HDD. Whenever I try to connect to it via the Cmd+K it says "The version of this server is not supported". Please help me this is blowing my mind. Also, it's a shame that everything but my main machine can connect to my HDD (PCs, Android, iOS are all fine).
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delay, but I've been quite busy in the recent period. Unfortunately, the solution you linked me doesn't seem to be working. Any other idea?
    BTW: I've upgraded to Mavericks

  • Problem with different calendars under Mountain Lion

I upgraded recently from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and experiencing an annoying problem with the calendars "On My Mac" (I am using a MacBook Pro from mid 2009). With iCal under Snow Leopard I had seven calendars - Meetings, Performances, Family, etc. with different colors. After the switch to Mountain Lion these categories aren't maintained properly. Four of them have been seemingly merged into two, so that for example an event can't be categorized as "Family" but gets shifted automatically to "Meetings" (both calendars stay checked in the editing panel, but only one "sticks"). So I have three  calendars I can use and a four I can't.
If I try to add a new calendar it appears in the list, but no event can be assigned to it.
Is there a limit to the number of calendars one can have?
I don't use iCloud, so there is no issue there.
I have one Google calendar (a work schedule I have subscribed to ) which also works with no problems.
    Any ideas?

Same problem when reseted  the PRAM.

  • Canon iR7105, iR-ADV9065 with GX300 server, and Mountain Lion

I am having no luck setting up two relatively recent, large and expensive Canon printers in Mountain Lion. The situations are different so there are two chapters to this wall of text.
This is a fresh Mac, so it didn't have any 'old' Canon driver trash on it. I have installed UFRII 2.43 and PS 3.60 from Canon and restarted.
    The iR7105
The iR7105 doesn't show up automatically in the Print & Scan add-printer menus. No problem; I go to IP, using LPD, and set it up there. (LPD access is enabled in the printer.) After that, I have tried setting it up with each of three drivers: a nondescript Canon iR7086-7105, Canon iR7086-7105 PS (US), and Canon iR7086-7105 UFR II (US).
The nondescript driver results in no setup options for the printer, so I know there's  a problem. This is, however, the closest to a successful setup I have so far. In the print dialog I get finishing options that seem promising, including for our saddle finisher. However, the saddle finisher doesn't engage when I send the print job -- I have to assume this is because the print driver doesn't have a setup where I can tell it what model of  finisher it needs to talk to? Further, there are no options for printing to the printer's Mail Boxes, so I can't just send a file there and fix up the saddle stitch on the printer directly (a workaround we've used with various jobs in the past). However, after the job has run, I CAN go into Command Workstation 5.4.1.25 and adjust the settings on the job there, and then get it to run through the saddle finisher (or to the Mail Boxes). This is the best I have so far, but it's not very good.
So I try to set up the PS driver. Now I get setup options and I can select the saddle finisher model. I also get a popup asking about unidirectional or bidirectional; I choose bidirectional because the printer is on a network. Also, setting it to unidirectional doesn't change what happens next:  when I do send the print job, the printer cheerfully spits out a dozen or more pages of single-line garbage instead of what I sent to print.
On to the UFR II driver. Again I get setup options as expected when I set up the printer. Again, the print options are exactly what I expect as well. Unfortunately, the print job doesn't go through: I get an error that says, "Canon UFR II Printer Driver / Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again, then start Printer Utility to get the printer information." Well, the printer is pretty certainly connected, based on the performances above. It's also supported, if Canon's suggesting I should download and use this driver is any indication. Finally, Printer Utility gets printer information that looks quite accurate. Nevertheless, after all of that, actual attempts to print still get the UFR II Printer Driver error message, and no prints.
The iR-ADV9065 and its GX300V2.0US server
After installing all the Canon drivers mentioned above, the print server (Canon iR-ADV C9000s GX300V2.0US) shows up in the '+' drop-down in Print & Scan. Great, right?! I can configure the server directly and control the printer that way! Yay!
Nope. I get a warning: "Some of the software for the printer is missing. You may have to reinstall the software to be able to successfully print." I click Continue, since that's an option, and then I get "Setting up 'Canon iR-ADV C9000s GX300V2.0US...' The software for the printer was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the software from the manufacturer." This time there is no option except Cancel.
What would be awesome now would be to know what software I need to reinstall. Since I just installed the UFRII and the PS software on a fresh Mac, I'm not sure what's missing.
So, back to manually installing with the IP address. From this point forward the results mimic those above, with variations for the printer's specific capabilities. The best driver option is still the non-PS, non-UFR version, and that 'best' option still won't control the finishing units. I must go through Command WorkStation to accomplish that.
    Bottom Line
Because I am so close to having these set up properly, but not quite, I feel like I must be doing something wrong. Something small and subtle, probably, but hey, maybe it's something big and glaring! Can anyone help?

The Canon print controllers do not support Bonjour, so using IP > LPD as you have done is the correct procedure.

The nondescript driver results in no setup options for the printer, so I know there's  a problem.
There's no problem. This is how the PPD works on 10.8. For older versions of PPD it was necessary to configure the options. But with the latest versions of PPD, it is assumed that all options are available, even when the machine may not have them or supports them.

It is not a lack of being able to set what finisher you have installed. You just cannot saddle-finish with the PPD. This is only supported with the full driver, such as the UFR2 or PS, because you need the additional plugins that are included with these full drivers to get the additional functions.

Further, there are no options for printing to the printer's Mail Boxes, so I can't just send a file there and fix up the saddle stitch on the printer directly (a workaround we've used with various jobs in the past).
Again, this is due to the lack of a plugin to support the submission to the mailbox. So it is another limitation of the PPD.
And with you sending the print job to the mailbox in the past, you would have been using a full driver - not the PPD - to achieve this.

However, after the job has run, I CAN go into Command Workstation 5.4.1.25 and adjust the settings on the job there, and then get it to run through the saddle finisher (or to the Mail Boxes). This is the best I have so far, but it's not very good.
If you can connect to the iR7105 with Command Workstation, then you must have a Fiery connected to it, such as the imagePASS-S2. So this would explain why the UFR2 and Canon PS v3.60 driver did not work. The Fiery does not support either driver. They are for the iR7105 that is using its internal Canon controller. Not the optional imagePASS (Fiery).
Now the issue for you with the imagePASS-S2 is that no 10.8 driver exists - the iR7105 was released in mid 2006. So you will have to use the Fiery Express driver, which has limited functions but it is better than using the Generic Postscript driver.

Like the iR7105 with the Fiery attached, the GX300 connected to the ADV C9065 does not support the UFR2 or PS v3.60 driver. But at least there is a 10.8 driver available for this model. Here is a link to the GX300 page from Canon USA.
Now with this driver installed you can add it by selecting the "Canon iR-ADV C9000s GX300V2.0US" that appears in the Default Add Printer view (and the Nearby Printers window). The driver should be automatically found by the Mac, meaning the Use menu will be set to the correct driver. This will let you print and use most finishing features of the iR ADV C9065.
Hope the above helps you. Reply if you need more info.
