This is a common issue and a solution could have been quickly found by doing a search.
Disable any Anti-Virus and Firewall software on the computer, then run the update.

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”
Here is my original post explaining what I had already tried:
    “Hi all,
I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
    Can anyone help? Please?!
    Thank you!!!
P.S. We have a PC, with Windows XP Home.”
Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!

P.S. The post by Sparkhi is a link to his blog going into a long story about how he wanted Apple to pay him for “solving” the issue….the one that apparently has been solved by multiple solutions. I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.

Upgrading to iOS 7 will provide everything that your device supports. Not all devices support all features. Check these forums for posts on problems.

  • Is anyone having a problem downloading ios 7

Is anyone having a problem downloading ios 7

Yes. If you'd bothered to read a few posts here before making your own, you would see other people are having problems.
You'd also see dozens of identical replies telling why. The servers are busy due to millions of people all trying to download at the same time.

Okay . . . thanks. . . I'm going to let it charge overnight and then see what happens in the morning.   Then I will try resetting the network settings.

nothing works.  Once I agree to the terms, etc, it just stops processing.
    Any recommendations?

  • Problems downloading iOS 8?

Well first, I was having an issue with the time the download was taking using iTunes. I plugged in my iPhone 5s and asked iTunes to download the new software only. It would connect to my phone and begin to download and I disconnected my phone. The download time would continue to climb until it was about 45-50 hours. I have Verizon FiOS 50/35 and a speed test reveals that I'm at 58.48 Mbps connected to the router through ethernet. So I really don't understand why it should take that long to download 1.9 GB. Then I encountered an error in iTunes that stopped the download altogether. It stated: "There was a problem downloading the software for the iphone 'my iPhone.' The network connection failed." But like I said, I'm connected to the internet through an ethernet cable and I don't have any network problems otherwise. So I tried working around iTunes and downloading iOS 8 through a direct link from this website: http://www.iphonehacks.com/2014/09/ios-8-download.html and clicked on the link for the model of my phone and that is telling me it will take 3 days to download, sometimes jumping up to 7 DAYS. Is this just an Apple server problem? Are the download times I'm experiencing normal for other users? If it's just a matter of traffic then I guess I could wait to complete my download, but I've seen some people on other forums who said it took them 5 minutes to download it and a total of 10 minutes when you add in the install time. So I'm just wondering if these are common problems that others are also experiencing or if the problem is on my end and I can do something to fix it. Thank you.
P.S. Sorry if this is posted in an incorrect location, I just haven't been able to find the answers to my questions.

    Hi everybody,
I made my way over to the Verizon forums, and found my answer here http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/All-Apple-updates-time-out-But-throug h-a-VPN-it-s-fine/td-p/744887/page/3. There's some speculation that it is a problem with Verizon FiOS although I guess their reps are claiming its Apple. Either way, I got my download time down to 8 minutes by changing my DNS, you'll find instructions on how to do the same at the link above. You might have to try changing it to a few different ones, I found the best for me was the Level3 primary DNS server from this website http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/a/free-public-dns-servers.htm. The Verizon forum users stated that not all DNS servers will work for everyone or for all downloads, meaning that if one works to download iOS 8 for your iPhone but then you can't get it on your iPad, try a different one. So the trick is trial and error until you find one that works for you. Good luck!

  • I have not had any problems with iOS 4

I don't know about you guys, but I have not had any problems yet for the new iOS 4 update on my iPhone 3g. I followed the instructions provided on apple's website on how to download the new update and also downloaded from apple's website the new version of iTunes (9.2). From there I proceeded to update my iPhone the way you normally update. iTunes then backed up my iPhone, restored the original iOS software, installed the new iOS 4 software, reloaded my iPhone with all apps (in their proper spots), no music (i forgot to check sync all for my music tab), all contacts, all calendar updates, all settings, all photos, everything went perfectly fine for me. I do not know why so many people are having problems, but though if I posted up exactly what I did maybe we could compare the methods that did not work and determine the problematic issue at hand.
The computer i used was a Power Mac G4 with Mac OS X Server V. 10.5.8
The iPhone that I am using is an iPhone 3G update from 3.1.3 to 4.0
The iTunes store was the updated 9.2
I hope we can figure all this out for everyone

I wouldn't surprise me either, particularly since in my direct experience I know personally of one person who had problems because they thought that the update process had finished when it definitely had not.
We're left again with mixed emotions:
    1) Delight that the updates to all of our devices worked flawlessly;
    2) Guilt that some others had problems, particularly when some of that 'some' seem to think that everyone has the same problems as themselves;
    3) Isolated because we feel sort of left out having no problems to fix for ourselves and too many of those we try to help only want to blame Apple rather than 'fess up' to their own errors.
    Ho hum....
Perhaps telling enough people to be patient with all updates might help for the future?

  • Hi everyone, I've downloaded IOS 5, icloud is rubbish compared to mobileme. Does anyone agree?

Hi all, just downloaded IOS 5 onto mt iphone 4. Its all fantastic apart from "icloud". Bring back mobile me, is there anyway I can stay with mobile me or should I give icloud a chance?
    regards P.K.

I have wasted over 20 hours trying to recover from this mess.  After MobileMe, I expected Apple to be on top of iCloud.  This is an even bigger slap in the face of Apple customers.  Duplicate contacts and calendar entries. Mail doesn't work at all.  Multiple calls to support.  Nobody seem to understand how screwed up this is.  I suspect that non-MobileMe customers are doing much better. They failed with the Mobile Me introduction and didn't learn a thing.

  • I'm having a problem downloading iOS 6....

I'm having a problem downloading ios6. I've tried numerous times and the same error comes up. It says "Software Update Failed, An error occurred downloading iOS 6." If anyone has a solution please share! Thanks

I've tried OTA and on iTunes and even in DFU mode and the same error shows. I'm sure it's just an overload of download requests.

  • Problems downloading IOS 5 to Ipad

Is it normal to take hours to download IOS 5 to my Ipad?  It seems to freeze or slow down midway through download, so I cancel. I have yet to succeed downloading IOS 5.  Could it possibly be my personal computer (which is old) or the downloading proccess?  I managed to upgrade itunes to 10.5.

Th iOS 5.0.1 update is about 700 meg, so if you are on a slow network it can take quite a long time to download, especially if you are doing other things online at the same time on your computer.

  • Problem downloading IOS 5

I am unable to download IOS 5 for ITunes.  I get a message saying the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.  Tried manually downloading but doesn't work.  I thought about uninstalling ITunes and then re-installing but don't want to do that in case it doesn't download and I am left without an ITunes application.  Anyone help?

I assume you are on a PC. Definitely DO NOT uninstall iTunes, because in order to reinstall it you would need to uninstall all Apple components, and it is very difficult to tell if they are completely uninstalled, so you would indeed most likely end up without an iTunes.
You will need to go to Start Menu > open Run > services.msc > find and restart the iTunes service. This exact "Network Resource" error has come up on my clients' computers before.

  • HT1222 I am having problems downloading iOS 7.0.6 on my iPad. Can anyone help?

I come up with an error message when I try to down load iOS 706 on my iPad. Can anyone help please?

After 2 mins it goes to "preparing update". Struggles with this and then after a long while just stops! Message is - software update failed. An error occurred downloading iOS 7.0.6. - that's all no other message or error number.
