Any reason to upgrade my E51 from 200.34.36?

The phone is working fine for me, except for a few minor annoyances.  About the only reason I'd consider upgrading is if it would fix any of these.
1.  My previous phone, a Nokia 6133, had timed profiles, where I could select a profile for some length of time, and the phone would automatically return to the default profile.  Really useful for meetings and the like. My E51 currently can't do this.
2.  I formatted a memory card in the phone, and now it's totally inaccessible from a PC.  I put it in a USB memory card reader, plug it into my system, and nothing.  It doesn't even recognise the memory card, no drive letter appears in explorer like it does when I use a valid memory card. I've checked for a password on the phone, there isn't one.  Itd be nice if there was a way to format a memory card so I can remove it from the phone and access it in a USB reader on a PC.
3.  Going back to the 6133 again, it had the ability to show both the phone contacts and the SIM contacts in one list.  I can get to the contacts in the SIM card on the 6133, but it'd be a useful feature if I didn't have to drill through two or three levels of menus to get to them.  Just hit the contacts button, and there they are.
If none of these are fixed, I can't see any benefit to upgrading - other than these, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I've imported a couple of iMovie '11 projects to Final Cut Pro X. The process works quite seamlessly. The associated Events are also imported to FCP X Events Library. However, in a couple of areas, some items weren't always kept in the correct position - such as Titles. So you may have to play around a bit in order to re-sync some media. Certainly, you will need to check through the whole project to ensure the integrity of the project.
Whilst FCP X can render in the background, I'm finding that things are much quicker in iMovie - each title, transition and effect appears virtually in an instant (no rendering at all during editing). In FCP X, there is a lag - items don't appear to play smoothly until the render is complete. So, when checking how a title or transition looks on playback, to see a smooth result it's best to wait for the render to finish. Of course, this is probably dependent on your system - perhaps I need to upgrade to 8 GB of RAM and a quad core i7.

I have a 2007 13" Macbook White. Is there any way to upgrade my OS from 10.6.8 to anything above 10.7? I keep getting an error message when I try to download 10.8.3 because Apple didn't make it compatible with my machine, but I really only need 10.7. So is there ANY possible way to do this with my current Macbook? Thanks for the help guys.

According to these system requirements, no, there is no way to go higher than Lion (10.7), as Mountain Lion (10.8) will not be compatible.

Also note that both Lion and Mountain Lion are memory hogs and the realistic minimum RAM should be 4 GB; you can run it with 2 GB, but depending on how you use your machine, you may not be happy with its performance.

  • Any reason to upgrade from iMovie to FPCX?

I'm reading all these rants about FPCX, but they seem to come from the pro community.  I'm an amateur who has never fallen in love with the "new" (post HD) version of iMovie.  I don't like the workflow, and I can't seem to get my Shuttle Pro to do anything useful. I know this is an open-ended question, but is FPCX more a prosumer product?  I'd like more functionality than I can get from iMovie.  Will it import iMovie files?

  • Can't start any program after upgrading to Mavericks from Mountain Lion.

After upgrading my Macbook Pro from Mountain Lion to Mavericks, I can't start any program from the dock or finder.  The screen flashes briefly gray, then returns to the desktop.  I repairded permissions from the recovery partition.

No need to repair permissions from the recovery partition. You can do that using the Disk Utility app located in HD > Applications > Utilities.
As for the issues with your Mac. Check to see if the startup disk needs reparing. (not the same as permissions)
The startup disk may need repairing ...
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to acces the built in utilities in  OS X Recovery
Make sure to back up all important files first before using OS X Recovery.

  • Any known issues upgrading a Mac from 10.6.8 to 10.8.x

I am using Creative Cloud on my Mac running 10.6.8 and there have not been any real problems except it is running a bit slower. I am considering upgrading my Mac to the latest OS X 10.8.1 and wonder if anyone using Creative Cloud has upgraded or is using it on 10.8.1? Are there any known issues, or could you just give a bit of feedback. Thanks, Jay

All Cloud apps run just fine here on OSX 10.8.1 (upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion) on MacBook Air.

  • Upgrading to e51 - from N6300

Hey - I like the 6300 - small slick phone - only problem seems to be the low battery time - have seen the e51 - looks great - feature set is perfect - i am not sure if its worth upgrading from the 6300 - whats the view ?

I think it is VERY VERY worth it ... E51 has many advantages over 6300, first of all it is Symbian so You can use / install wider set of applications that will suit Your need. battery life is great as far as I can see ... E51 really looks like a classy business phone ... I just wish screen is 2.4" ... thats all

  • Any luck getting upgraded to unlimited from brick and morter store?

I'm going to be near a brick and morter AT&T store on Friday, and I hope I can just walk in with my receipt in hand and ask them to switch me to the 3G unlimited from the 2 GB plan. Has anyone had luck doing this, or is this 1-866-640-5125 the only option? The iPad was purchased on June 6th.

I was lucky with the (866) 640-5125 number. I called at 9:10 PM, EST and got someone on the line in 5 minutes. It seems they finally have their customer service staff up to speed because she knew what to do right away. She cancelled the 2GB plan I signed up for and put me in the Unlimited Plan. What they are doing is placing everyone in the Unlimited Plan and then verifying with Apple when you purchased your iPad. If everything checks out then you stay on the Unlimited Plan; if not, then you get bumped back down to the 2GB plan. It's unfortunate that the database isn't readily available to these front-line folks to see when the product was ordered just by simplying plugging in your IMEI. Ah technology, sometimes you wonder why people have it when it's not put to good use.

  • E51 fw 200.34.36 not working #

    Hi,
I have just upgraded my e51 to 200.34.36 and i realised that # is not working properly as in fw 100.xx.xx
In the ld fw key # was used to switch to silent profile and back when the key was pressed and hold. But after the instalation the key # is not switching to silent and when i hold this key, it asks me to change the line (line 1 vs. line 2).
Why it was changed? - is it a bug or a feature? - understand - the fast switching using # is much better than pressing the power button and choosing a profile...(and the printed note on the button is missleading as well).
Can you please suggest me any solution or way how tu remap the button on user level if possible?
    thanks

reset your phone by pressing *#7370# in standby mode(after make a back up)
    if your problem didnt solved.
it is normal for your new firmware!

ACtually I really really don't want to use it anymore. I'm so disappointed.

Some friends have told me that their phone can last up to 2 days without charging??
If they are getting 2 days without charging, it's unlikely they use their device very much.
A full day is pretty good....and if I'm careful, I can easily get a full day of usage.
For me, normal is charging the iPhone mid afternoon at work, but I use it a lot.
My typical usage is 35 mins of listening to podcasts, checking email, checking my RSS feed, and checking a few apps while I ride my bike when I first get up.  Then listening to several podcasts at work.
I typically stream music while working out during my lunch hour and use the Men's Health Fitness app to track my progress.
By about 2pm I'm ready to charge the device as it's getting low (somewhere between 20% and 50%).
I leave bluetooth, Wi-FI, and location services turned on all the time.
Personally, I just do not see the point in going into settings to turn on the feature when I need it... just too much hassle.  All of my listening to podcasts and music is via Bluetooth.
I know I'm not the heaviest user, but I just do not see how anyone can realistically make it two days on a single charge, it makes me think they simply do not use the features of the device and would be just as well served with a basic or feature phone.

  • Any Reason NOT to Upgrade?

I immediately upgraded my mini to Leopard the moment Leopard was released, and am enjoying it. But my primary computer is my 17" 2.16 Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro. I chose NOT to upgrade it to Leopard immediately: I needed it to be "stable" and I give Keynote presentations weekly, and just didn't want to upset my routine. Also, some of my favorite utilities weren't immediately Leopard-capable...
I just upgraded the 100GB drive to a 200GB drive, and I can "feel" a performance improvement...boot-up time is reduced, and things just feel quicker.
ANYWAY - Is there any reason for me now NOT to upgrade to create a complete bootable backup and ARCHIVE & INSTALL Leopard onto my MBP?
    Thanks for your advice.

Put the old drive into an external Firewire enclosure. Install Leopard on it. Update Leopard to 10.5.2 and update your third-party software. Run your MBP from the external drive for a week or so doing your typical stuff. If you have any problems it's simple enough to boot from your old system on the internal drive. If all works out OK then you can safely upgrade your old system or clone the external one to the internal drive.
This is precisely how I do all my system upgrades. Saves a lot of time and headaches.

Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. In some cases, the problem has been resolved by repairing permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reinstall OS X.

  • 3G iphone - version 2.0 - any reason at all to upgrade to 2.0.1?

I honestly know nothing about these updates. All I know is my phone is the same software as when I picked it up at AT&T about 10 days ago. I checked and its on version 2.0
Is there any reason at all for me to risk the 2.0.1 upgrade and what it this upgrade supposed to be for? From what I read on here, its destroying about 50% of the phones out there...

The 250 MB update completely replaces the entire software image running the phone. All iPhone3G updates are likely to be 250 MB (or more, depending on how many cool new things are added). All 1st generation updates were around 170 MB, regardless of the nature of the upgrade. Apple does not release patches or incremental updates for the iPhone.
The process goes kinda like this...
Download the new image (the 250 MB download)
Backup the phone (all the user specific stuff, music, videos, apps, settings, logs)
Wipe the phone (preparing the iPhone for upgrade)
    Install the new image
Boot the phone on the new image
Replace all the user specific stuff from the backup above.
    Reboot the phone again.
It can easily take several hours to do this, depending upon how fast your Internet connection is and how much stuff is on your phone. I have a 15 Mbps internet connection at home so it only took about 5 minutes for me to get the download. But It took over 45 minutes just to do the backup on my phone, then probably another hour or so, before I had my phone back on 2.0.1. Just to find out the update did not fix my bluetooth issue. (release notes would have been nice) Oh well... The phone seems to work somewhat better in general, but I was not really having any problems other than the no bluetooth for voicemail with Plantronics problem. (my wife's Jawbone works fine, btw)
That is why I say "get used to it." Every update will involve the same process... at least.

I upgraded to Mavericks from 10.6.8 and I no longer have any of my mail folders in macmail. If I look up an email via spotlight, I can find it, so it's in there. How do I restore my folders?

As an update: I was able to find my archived boxes and emails on my hard drive by doing this:
    Open a Finder window.
Select Go | Go to Folder… from the menu.
    Type "~/Library/Mail/V2".
Once I was able to get my macmail working properly, most of my mailboxes appeared, however not all and only a few recent emails are in a few of the boxes.
I really need to move the emails from the archive back into my macmail. When I try to import using the mbox method, it doesn't recognize the .mbox even though they are .mbox. Other than re-emailing each individually to myself, I don't know what to do. Does anyone out there have any suggestions as to some easier solution?
