Any reason why my mac suddenly stopped playing videos?
I have had the mac bk air for a year now. and it was doing fine, i could watch you-tube, and play videos.
now i cant play youtube or videos off of any site,
what can i do?
test same on a diff. browser such as Firefox or Chrome.
verify you have Adobe flash installed for video playback on youtube.
simplex process of elimination.

Any reason why dictation should suddenly stop working in Pages?
Been working on Pages today on my Mac. All going along swimmingly using the dictation function.
Then suddenly, it stops!
Haven't got it working since.
Running latest Mavericks, on a three year-old MacBook Pro 17 inch; Pages is the latest edition.
Any ideas?

Mark.I'm using spoken punctuation.
I think the problem is a combination of a few things perhaps: my MacBook Pro is just over three years old, runs only 8Gb RAM, perhaps struggles with an English accent, and maybe Pages sin't quite the old Pages any more.
I can get it to work for about twenty words max before I hit the beach ball.
Also working out about the same on my 18 month old iPad as well.
Will just work within the limitations.

My Mac suddenly stopped playing through my external speakers which are fine and working well with other devices.
Have a look in System Preferences -> Sound -> Output.
Plug the speakers out. Do you now see "Internal Speaker" as the name from the Built-in device? If you replug your speakers, is it now changing to "Headphone? -
Youtube suddenly stopped playing videos
My iMac OSX 10.6.8 suddenly stopped playing youtube videos.
I haven't installed any new software or changed anything that coincided with the loss.
The youtube screen says blocked plug in.
I read the existing discussions and:
I opted out of the HTML5 pilot, restarted Safari (5.1.8). Still won't play videos.
In the past, videos played on Quick Time Player so I'm reluctant to install Flash Player.

You cannot watch YouTube w/o flashplayer. You will need to install the latest version from Adobe's website. Also, regarding QT install Perian (AVI and FLV support)
After doing the above installations, make sure you repair permissions and restart your computer. -
Projct sequence suddenly stops playing video!

I use FCP 5.1.4 on a Mac Pro twin 2.66 with 3gb ram I have a short but complex sequence to edit. After adding an effect to a clip in the timeline and then continuing to play the sequence I was horrified to see that the sequence would not play any video in the canvas, only the audio. If I double click the individual clips on the timeline so they open in the viewer - they play.Now, if I play the sequence it is fine up until the point where the problem first manifested, but beyond that point, everything goes black!!I reverted the project just to get moving , it was a third party effect, but this has since happened again when doing some picture-in-picture stuff. I answer to the previous suggestion, it is nothing so basic, I even get wireframes displayed in the canvas and everything, but no image?!!! When I try to play it through external video, it displays the last frame that I paused on, until I pause again, but won't play the sequence.

Why has my phone stopped playing videos
Within the last week (believed linked to my update to iOS 8.2) I can no longer view any videos (other than ones already on my phone - in the camera roll or video section). This includes ones on youtube, app or via Safari, facebook, Instagram, even videos that pop up in adverts on games don't work. All I get is the circle in the middle of the video whirring round, and they never load. I notice that I get the data download circle whirring at the top of my screen too (next to 3G or wifi symbol) but nothing happens.
has anyone else experienced this?
apple, any ideas? And suggestions on a fix, it's driving me crazy, and my user experience is totally reduced from it!!Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.

Be sure to look at the Settings for Videos, on iPod. From the main iPod screen, select Videos. At the bottom of the Videos screen, select Settings. Make sure there is nothing unusual there, particularly in TV Out.

My Mac has suddenly stopped playing my DVDs including a DVD it played fine only 3 days ago. I insert the DVD and wait for the player to start automatically but after 10 minutes, nothing is happening and it sounds like the disk has stopped spinning. I've now tried with four different DVDs (all store bought and so perfectly normal disks). The Mac doesn't eject the disk or anything it just doesn't seem to respond to it being there at all.
My main confusion is why this suddenly happened today when it was perfectly fine last week.
Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong and how I could fix it? Thank you.

Hi i have avi files saved in iphoto that i used to be able to play through quicktime. However in the last few weeks i cannot play many of these files. I can see the videos and click on them but nothing happens (i have version 7.6.9 of quicktime). Does anyone know why this has happened and what i can do about this?

As previously stated, AVI is a file container. It is somewhat old and its originator, Microsoft, dropped official support of it over a decade ago. However, it remains popular with PC users since almost any valid audio and/or video compression format can be stuffed to the file which synchronizes the content by interleaving the individual audio and video frames. The compression format is the specific manner in which the audio and video data are encoded as it is placed in the AVI container. You can find the compression format by inspecting the file in the Finder "Info" window, or in the "Inspector" window of the QT player (or other media player) if the file can be opened.
For instance, one popular compression combination would be to place DivX encoded video and MP3 audio in an AVI file container. However, neither DivX nor MP3 is natively supported by the QT player. (Although iTunes will natively support the MP3 audio.) Therefore, people who wish to play such files in the QT 7 Player would normally install either the DivX component or Perian but not both. Either installation will independently play such files in the QT Player, but if both are installed, the file will usually stop working since these two codecs can create a playback conflict.
However, the AVI container could just as easily contain DV along with DV audio. In this case, the file should play correctly in QT since this compression format is natively supported by the basic component configuration that comes in every current OS installation. Therefore, if such files suddenly stopped playing, this could be an indication that a component has been moved or deleted or that your system or QT embedded structure has become corrupted. -

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 that suddenly stopped playing any kind of sound. That's with earphones plugged in or not. The microphone indicator in sound setup indicates that it is listening to external sound, and when I play system sounds, the speaker icon in the volume mixer indicates that the hardware thinks it is playing sounds, but nothing is coming out of the laptop at all. I thought if it were a speaker not working internally I could fix it with earphones or external speaker but that isn't working either.

Try the following.
Open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update, select 'View update history' in the left hand pane and then select 'Installed updates' link in the following window.
Locate update KB2962407, right click it and select Uninstall. When done, restart the notebook, open windows Control Panel, open Windows Update and select 'Check for updates'. You'll see the update you just uninstalled being offered again - right click and select 'Hide Update'.
After this you may or may not need to delete and reload the Audio driver - if you do, the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the relevant document on the link below.

Macbook air Wi Fi and sound stops every time it goes to sleep. i have to restart it every time to use wifi and sounds. this started happening just after the latest upgrade to OS X. any reasons why its doing that and how to fix it.
Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved.
2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
6. In some cases, the problem has been resolved by repairing permissions on the startup volume.
7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
8. Reinstall OS X. -
why does fcpx suddenly stops reading audio files? ever since i upgraded to Yosemite. Than when I check it on my hard drive it doesn't work as well. Only this file. Am in a trouble of delivering now. Any help?
Could be systems logs or some other system file growing.
Use OmniDiskSweeper or DaisyDisk to map what's being used.

For some reason my QuickTime player has stopped playing all my .avi movies, I can't seem to upgrade and it doesn't offer any solutions except that it may need additional software but not what or where to obtain it from? Help most of my movie are in .avi!!
Google 'Perian' and 'Flip4Mac' — these are the extensions that will make QT play other file formats.
However, a simpler solution is just to abandon QT in favour of the free, open-source player VLC, which plays just about everything natively without further downloads.
Download the free VLC Player from here:
