Any recomendation to a good Converter Software? .MOV to .M4P .WMP?
I have a .mov file of 2.44GB... and I need to reduce that by converting it to other format... So I was looking for a good software free for Mac.
Thanks'

You'll need additional for .wmv conversion. Flip4Mac isn't free (the player is free, but not the upgrade to convert).

  • Help! what are some good free converting softwares for 5th g

I need some good converting softwares for my 5th gen ipod. i cant find anything to convert my mpegs to mp4 for my gen 5 ipod

I have a Windows machine and I bought Quicktime Pro and it works for the short .mov files my digital cameras create. I tried a bunch of "free" DVD conversion programs, including Videora for iPod with mixed results (I couldn't get Videora to work). Finally, I bought PQDVD for iPod (http://www.pqdvd.com). It was expensive when you compare it to free software ($39.95) BUT you can stick a DVD (that you own of course) in and press a couple of buttons and it makes a video file. The nicest part is it makes very small files (275MB average). It also does it twice to three times as fast as anything else I tried. The movies look and play great on the iPod (except you have to go all the way to the end to stop them, hmmm). So if I pay myself $10 an hour, I'll get my money back pretty quickly. In one night, I got 4 movies moved over to my iPod, no hassles.

  • What is a good video converter - from .mov to .avi

I've tried researching this topic and I've seen a lot of partially helpful info.  I'll try to be specific.  I'm using a MBP with OS X, and iMovie '09 (version 8.0.6).  I'm trying to convert my edited .mov files to either .avi or .wmv files so i can embed them into a powerpoint presentation for PC.  I am not trying to rip DVDs.  These are interview I filmed myself.  I need a decent (free or inexpensive) converter to do this.  I have tried Handbrake and i only get .mp4 as an format option.  I've also tried MPEG StreamClip but when it converts there is no audio.  I don't mind paying a few bucks to have a good converter, but i want one that will do the job.  Any help or opinions are greatly appreciated!

For .wmv, you can use Flip4Mac. http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm
A potentially free solution is to use regular iMovie h.264 files (.m4v) and be sure to install QuickTime for Windows on the Windows PC.
If you need to distribute the PPT to multiple PCs, I would go for Flip4Mac.
To the best of my knowledge, purchasing Flip4Mac gives you the components and codec you would need. Then you do the actual conversion in QuickTime Pro. MPEG Streacmlip might work, but I'm not certain. Worth trying since it is free.

  • Any way to convert HD mov clip taken from iphone4?

HD clips taken from iPhone4 is taking quite a lot of space in my computer.
Is there any program out there good for converting these mov clips to smaller size but SAME resolution movie? Maybe to other video format? Like those full bluray videos get converted to smaller size e.g. 4GB 720p video?
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH..

I use QuickTime Player 7 (Pro) for all these re-encoding tasks.
QuickTime Player X is sometimes not yet up to doing this.
You can have both versions on the same Mac.
Cannot give you advice if you are on Windows, Linux, etc...

  • Does anyone know a good converter from quicktime movies to dvd format?

Does anyone know a good converter from quicktime movies to dvd format?

I'm guessing that your using One Step DVD . This will only work with one movie at a time.
Create a new project and all you should have to do is drag your movies from your movie folder onto your iDVD project. You can add as many movies as you like but obviously you can't exceed the maximum total DVD size.
Encoding can take a long time depending on the original file format, but you should be able to use pretty much any file format you can play with Quicktime.

  • Anyone know of a good way to move finalcut pro X to an external HD without loosing any of the project files?

Anyone know of a good way to move finalcut pro X to an external HD without loosing any of the project files?

If you're looking for improved performance, you should move your events and projects to an external FW800 or faster drive.
The FCP X application itself should reside in your Applications folder on your system drive.
If you're talking about backing up to another drive, I use a cloning application (SuperDuper) to clone my working drive to my backup drive two or three times a day.
If you want to install FCP X on another computer, simply download it again from the App Store (using the same Apple ID you used to purchase the app).

Check how many applications are starting when you log in, I found that if there was a lot of activity at login Finder did not display the icons on the desktop correctly, again like you it did not occur at every login, just occasionally.
For Safari have you tried resetting Safari, if that does not help you could disable plugins and extensions one at a time. You may find one of those is causing the problem.

  • I keep reading that i need converter software to import Canon DSLR (Mark II or D6) H.264 MOV file to iMovie? True? I'm confused.

I keep reading that i need converter software to import Canon DSLR (Mark II or D6) H.264 MOV file to iMovie? True? I'm confused.

iMovie 9.0.9 is the latest version you can run unless you upgrade to the Mavericks operating system (OS 10.9).
Your profile (at the bottom of your post) mentions OS 10.4.11 (Tiger) which is why I mentioned that.
The list of supported cameras is not comprehensive  but articles such as:
    https://getsatisfaction.com/apple/topics/make_canon_eos_6d_h_264_1080p_footage_e ditable_in_fcp_imovie
do indicate that conversion is needed before import, at least for iMovie 9.  Although it's a recent article it doesn't specifically mention  iMovie 10.
iMovie 10 has a very much changed interface and a different folder structure so upgrading is not trivial so I would not advise rushing into upgrading.
Maybe someone with knowledge of this camera can help.
    Geoff.

consider usage of a diff. editor.. iMovieHD6, you're entitled for a free downlaod at apple.com:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
but IF you're relaxed, opened your mind, follow the bright light, ommmm.. for Events & Stuff:
your intended workflow will add another step of quality-degradition (8mm>>avi>>mp4>>iM08) ..
consider the free tool Mpeg Streamclip www.squared5.com for 'chopping' that 90min beast into pieces..
rename these new chunks, follow advice given on my site:
    http://karsten.schluter.googlepages.com/im08changeeventdate
    there's the manual..

  • Any suggestions on a good video editing software for MacBook Pro

I have just joined the MacBook Pro community would like an idea for good video software options

Also, compare the hardware specification (not just minimums) needed to actually
use the video editing software; plus consider external storage options of huge
capacity since most portable computers don't really have all that much storage.
A few years ago some suggested Avid Media Composer as professional software
but then in the same discussion, said the MacBook Pro may not be able to handle
the demands of the application; and went on to suggest an Apple Mac Pro tower.
Some software needs require further study prior to committing resources & funds
to discover perhaps the product may/may not be adequate. Avid likely is still costly.
Hopefully you can get a great editor with a few creative options, for a decent price.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • What apps is good to converter the movies for the format of IPAD

What is most popular apps to converter the movies CD and DVD to all format or to play in my IPAD.

I use DVD Catalyst......not really an "app". You're going to convert your movie on your computer first and then sync it to your iPad.....unless there's some other way to do it that I am unfamiliar with.

  • Is there any way to disable the "converting" process in QT Player?

Every time I open a movie file in Quicktime Player, it goes through a process of "converting" the movie I opened.
    WHY???
Apple seems to be on a mission to alienate their creative professional user base.
By forcing a conversion to Apple Pro Res, I've set my preferences to open any files of type "Movie" in Quicktime 7 Pro, rather than the ever use the new version in Mavericks.  If anybody else works with video assets and deliverables as part of their job, I recommend you do the same.
Upon opening a movie file with the Mavericks Quicktime Player, it will "conveniently" convert your file to some form of Apple Pro Res.  So, if you need to deliver something in ANY other codec, you can no longer use Quicktime to accurately check your work.
So, do what you can, I'd even recommend downloading a third party movie player that doesn't tamper with the gamma settings on playback (another bone to pick with the team behind Quicktime Player).
Anyway, I'd erase that stain of an "improvement" off my harddrive if I didn't suspect some of my other applications might make use of its libraries and resources.
Is there a way to turn off this conversion process?
    Thanks!

You have to change the set up on the harmony remote.
in the harmony software go the activity you have set for the mini
    click the setting button
    then change options
    the option Play on Enter
set to DO NOT SEND PLAY
    the option Stop On Exit
set to DON'T SEND STOP COMMAND
    I feel your pain.
I'm having trouble getting my harmony to work properly.  It seems to be sending multiple commands for one button push.  When I push menu it sends the command twice.  So in front row it moves back to menu's and often exits the program.  Does yours work perfectly except for the itunes issue?

Haven't really used any of them including VLC - actually use netflix on the ipad more than anything. I was able to drop an mp4 into imovie on my ipad and see it there. This was something I had shot as avhcd and converted with turbo.264. Played fine. Probably not what you want for a movie player though.
Well, turbo.264 is indeed very nice to have - even for converting full-sized movies. (Nevertheless, TechRadar's latest roundup (see http://www.techradar.com/news/software/applications/6-of-the-best-video-converte rs-for-mac-1074303 ; also linked from another roundup at http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/benchmark-excellent-multimedia-converter-handb rake-vs-commercial-apps ) has shown it's still worse than HandBrake in most respects.)
All H.264 files (assuming they are H.264 level 4.1 or lower) are compatible with the built-in Videos app.

Those of you who use other players, what do you reccomend? Just curious.
It entirely depends on your needs. The top players (AVPlayerHD / ProPlayer, It's Playing, GoodPlayer) all have different strengths and weaknesses. I myself use It's Playing the most as I convert everything into MP4 and simply love the DSP's (brightness / volume / saturation boosting). (Its software decoders are definitely worse than those of AVPlayerHD / ProPlayer; however, MP4's are played back from hardware.)

    Hi
I need to find a video converter for .Mov to .Flv(or maybe Mp4 or mpeg).
I found out that you cant create a playlist in .mov...so i need to convert. Youtube's conversion seems to suck though...can i get a better quality .flv conversion?
I have a lot of videos +around 70+ that need to convert to a format with playlist functionality for mac and windows.
Whats a good software to convert to flv.or the other format? currently my videos are 960x540.
    Help is appreciated.

MPEG Streamclip with the Perian plug in should work.
    Both are free.
