Any recommendations for A3 colour  printer for small studio?

Need a printer to do A3 or A3+ printouts for client mockups in small studio.
Can anyone recommend one? Needs to be networked with 3 people using it.

Formally, your question belongs on the Apple ColorSync Users list and not here, but Pages is the place where photography and typography come together, so here goes.
1. Stay away from toner-based printing devices. They tend to have a tiny gamut, too small for the RGB colour space in which you capture and correct your photographs, and too small for proofing.
2. Stay away from printing devices intended for the office imaging market. These devices tend to have a small hardwired RGB colour space, that is, sRGB.
You may not be able to work around the cap on the colour gamut in an ICC characterisation of the colour device, so you can't get at its full colour gamut.
3. For presentation printing and proof printing, a graphic arts CcMmYK inkjet with bright and neutral white substrate produces a colour gamut you can use in two ways.
a. For presentation printing you can address the whole gamut of the inks+substrate, reproducing as much as possible of the colour space within which you capture and correct photographs. Use the smart 3D gamut comparison in the ColorSync Utility to see what you could be loosing.
b. For proof printing you can clip the large gamut to the size and shape of the gamut of the intended printing condition, adding paper white simulation for D50 visual matching and matching by colour measuring instrument for contract proofing using a control strip.
There are contract quality presentation-printing and proof-printing RIPs for Mac OS X Server. BEST/EFI Colorproof by a group of people in Germany is one such. They have a forum where you can work out questions on configuring rendering intents, or you can ask on the Apple ColorSync list.

  • Setting up document for two-colour printing

I'm creating a document that will be printed using two colours: black and a Pantone ink. In the Swatches panel I have deleted all the swatches except for Black and my Pantone colour (and obviously None, Paper and Registration are still there). I have also created some mixed-ink swatches based on the black and Pantone colour.
I notice, however, that the Ink Manager still displays Cyan, Magenta and Yellow as well as the Black and Pantone. Acrobat's Ink Manager does the same, depsite the Preflight showing that it only produces two plates. (In the Output Preview, only the Black and Pantone channels show coverage, but the crop marks show on all five channels.)
Should I be concerned? Is there a way of setting up a document for two-colour printing that I've missed?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

The ink manager is not a problem, bu the mixed colors potentially are, depending on the press being used. Some small 2-color presses use a single blanket and mix the ink on the blanket for overprints (which is what mixed inks are), creating a path for cross-contamination of the inks that can muddy the colors all around. You might want to verify that this will not be a problem on your job.

  • Any recommendations for buying a printer for my Mac Book Pro

Looking to buy a printer for my Mac Book Pro!! Any recommendations???

Any will work. "AirPrint" compatible printers will work even better, since they require no setup whatsoever, and will even work with iOS devices  (and with some compatible android/windows phones) you might end up buying.

  • Making a file for spot colour printing.

Hi, so I'm at a print shop in Perth, our old graphic designer has left, and left us with a pickle.
We have a couple of digital printers here; we use a Fuji Xerox 5065 II for our main daily stuff.
We also print NCR books as a spot colour process on our Riso machine.
We are trying to print a hard copy of a client’s artwork on our 5065 that has a colour screen? (Sorry I’m not sure what the correct term is)
So that the colours show up as dots on the page and can be separated on our Riso?
I've looked into changing the DPI on an image, but this is an overall effect. Our old graphic designer somehow managed to have only the color sections of the page show up as dots and not the rest.
When I say dots, it's like the DPI on that part of the page is less than the rest so that it's clear to the naked eye that the image is made of larger dots?
Is there a way in Indesign, or any Adobe program or that matter on the 5065 if anyone knows the machine that I can adjust or create this setting?
I'm sorry for my naive wording on the matter, any help is appreciated.

    Ok,
sorry for the confusion, like I say, this is the first time I've had to deal with the situation.
    So......
if say you have a logo that has a text box, and the background of the text box is a solid colour.
if we put that logo through our Riso machine, it can't seperate the text from the background block, and so just prints it as a large coloured block.
Now, our old graphic artist, used to do this thing where he would take the  text box or solid shape and he would change it from being a solid colour to being dots. like he changed the dpi but the dots were large enough to see with the naked eye.
this way when we put it through the Riso machine, it could seperate the text from infront of the coloured box and would print them both. The box would still be dotty but on the Riso it would look fine.
Hope this makes more sense, if not I'll take some scans when i get back into work on Monday.
    Cheers in advance.

  • Any recommendations on external hard drives for Air?

The couple of external hard drives I used for time machine etc. are firewire based. (The alternatives for making them usb friendly do not work with the Air.) Any recommendations on a good, self powered external, about 500gb? Thanks.

I only buy 2.5" internal drives and place them in Macally enclosures. I've had store bought all-in-one externals and they have not been reliable, and many are installing all kinds of software on them, via firmware, and you can't do much about it. I've never had one problem over the years going this route, and drives are so cheap now, you can get the enclosure plus a 500GB drive for just over $100.00 at macsales.com
The Macally's have FW/USB interfaces. I have the new MBA, and use USB.

  • Best current ideas for wireless AIO printer for MBP? Prefer not HP or Canon(my MX 850's bad match)*

Would appreciate best current ideas for wireless AIO printer to pair with MBP (bought late 2011). Prefer not HP or Canon.  Got my MX 850 to print -- with lots of work -- but would not scan.  Tried to fix that, now won't print or scan. Time to move forward, leaving Canon along with Dell notebook in recycle bin.  Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Looking for portable wireless printer for new iPad mini

I am looking to purchase a portable printer for a new ipad mini.  I am on the road alot, and need a printer that I can plug into the car, hotel, airport, etc..  I looked at the Canon ip100, which  is portable, but does not support AirPrint, but it has bluetooth.  The printer looks nice, portable, even battery operated, but does not work with ipad.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thank you in advance.

You maybe able to see if there is a Canon app that will allow you to print to the printer even though its not compatible.
If not here is a list of compatible air print printers http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356

  • Looking for a mobile printer for my car/ on the road work for my IPAD2

Looking for a printer I can use in my car and where ever necessary.

I've been happily printing for a while from my iPad to my battery-operated HP H470 with absolutely no wires (and no router / pre-existing WiFi connection - it operates in AdHoc mode). Literally just the iPad and the H470 - in fact, one time in a marquee in the middle of a muddy field with no power and a long way from the nearest WiFi connection, so it can be done from literally anywhere.
Once I'd sorted it all out, I wrote down the solution and the steps to get it to work in the hope of helping others:

It doesn't appear to be listed as a dependency in the developer docs, but would you try putting the ReportPrinter.jar in your RAS app?

  • Are there any recommended group policies to consider for users consuming SharePoint?

Hi - we are close to going live with a  new SharePoint 2013 farm and the question of GPOs has come up. Havn't seen any best practice or recommendations about this so was wondering if anyone in the community has any views?
    Cheers
    J

The major group policy settings that you should engage with your NOS managers involve security settings: service account security settings, network storage security settings and local security settings.  if you do not build your knowledge of these interactions,
you may encounter highly arcane and deeply perplexing performance issues and even failures that appear to have no immediate cause that you can quickly point to and resolve.
    Service Account Security Settings
All service accounts used in your farm should be domain service accounts.
Some of these accounts must have read permission to read the properties of all other service accounts.  Such accounts include: farm service account, user profile service account, SQL server agent account (the account you assign to run your SQL server),
and the workflow manager 1.0 service account.
For example, if you will be creating SQL Server backup maintenance plans, you must give the the SQL Server service account the permission to read the domain account that you logged in as to create these maintenance plans.  I discuss this more
    here.
    Network Storage Security Settings
The search service account needs RW permission to the network folder you use to store farm backups (the backups created either through CA or via PowerShell).  If it does not have this, a backup performed through CA or via PowerShell will succeed in
everything except the Search portion.  This was not the case for 2010.  Why the search service account now needs to touch a backup folder is completely beyond me.  But there you have it. I discuss this more
    here.
    Local Security Policy
The Search Service accounts must have these local security policy user rights assignments or your search service performance will deteriorate markedly: Adjust memory quotas for a process, Impersonate a client after authentication and Replace a process
    level token.
Likewise, be sure to assign these user rights assignments to the farm service account: Allow log on locally, Adjust memory quotas for a process, Impersonate a client after authentication, Log on as a batch job, Log on as a service and Replace a
    process level token.
More of these assignments are discussed
    here.
Your GPO is likely pushed out on a regular basis (eg, every half hour), so, it may overwrite any settings changes implemented by an installer or configuration wizard.  Not configuring these settings correctly can lead to highly arcane and perplexing
problems, manifested in error messages that do not provide real troubleshooting assistance.  The problem is that Microsoft has not documented these various security settings needed by SharePoint service accounts and processes down to the level discussed
here and as noted above.  This is also one of the reasons I believe why Microsoft strongly recommends that you perform all installation and subsequent configuration using the SharePoint Setup User Administrator account (eg, spAdmin): this account
is used to configure a wide variety of registry entries and folders and is granted the permission to edit these as necessary.  Your administrator account may not be.
Another area for GPO attention involves firewalls.  For example, you need to make sure that the Windows Firewall on your SQL Server instance(s) has appropriate rules configured to allow inbound and outbound traffic.

    Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone can recommend a solid SATA 3 SSD with the height of 7mm or any new ones that are coming soon that are also 7 mm in height?
    Sincerely,
    John

Good choice. Unfortunately, you can lost the warranty as you should remove the bezel (spacer). Look at this:
    http://imgur.com/a/PNHQ8
As to my first post - you are right, of course, it was my typo , sorry. I meant 510 series, but it has 9,5 mm in height.
Note, I know some guys who have inserted 9,5 mm ssd in x220 w/o problems. The only one point - you should remove the special side rubber rails and replace them by something else more thin.
