Any recovery for track info lost in restoration?

My prayer is to gain back track info for my desecrated music collection. It was once quite respectable. While traveling in Asia, Macbook was caught in endless cycle of 'logging in' - brought him to nearest authorized dealer and backed up files. Thousands of tracks were lost when they (a) could not be backed up, or (b) would not transfer from backup. Hundreds more were stripped of their track information. ITunes spent hours "processing gapless playback information" (whereby it regained some of the lost labels) before it froze once more. The shop responded by restoring the system -again- at which point several more albums were lost. Since then, iTunes is no longer "processing --" and the tracks remain unnamed, all jumbled together. The iTunes store helpfully responded to my request to replace purchased items by recommending that I backup files (thanks, apple). Is there any hope ..?

Without an application that provides for this being installed on your iPhone, and without a MobileMe account being accessed on your iPhone which provides for this, the answer is no.
In the U.S. in the event of an emergency - someone dialing 911 but unable to provide their location, the police can request cell tower location services via the carrier for the iPhone, but a carrier in the U.S. will only do this in the event of an emergency when requested by a proper authority.

I downloaded two movies from itunes at the same time (both free digital copies from a dvd) and when they finished downloading... they disappeared. I've not been able to re-download them or find them.. anywhere. Any suggestions for tracking them down?

If you downloaded them on your computer's iTunes then they should have gone into the Movies part of your iTunes library, if on a device (iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch) then into the Videos app - they haven't appeared there ?
If you downloaded on your PC and they don't show in the Movies section then you could try searching for them by name (or part of their name) via windows explorer and see if that finds them. Or if you downloaded them on a device and they aren't in the Videos app then have you got a film age rating set in Settings > General > Restrictions that is hiding them, and if not can you find them via the device's spotlight search screen (swipe your first homescreen to the right) ?

  • Not automatically accessing  Gracenote for track info - but it WAS!

Hope that someone can help me. I have a new MB with Leopard 10.5.2
I have been ripping music and up to tonight it was automatically getting track names. I have not done anything or changed anything - I was in the middle of a ripping session and then for no reason, it was not accessing Gracenotes for the track info. Sure I can do it manually but that is a real pain - especially when it WAS working perfectly and no other app was in use, only iTunes.
Itunes prefs, says that it is checked to automatically get the track info, I have done restart, repair permissions, quit, restart - all to no avail.
Any suggestions please woul dbe most welcome!

    Hi All,
I was also experiencing this problem so I emailed the Gracenotes support ([email protected]) and advised them that myself and multiple others were experiencing this problem. Here is the reply:

As I am at work at the moment I haven't been able to check if it's working yet, but I will be checking as soon as I get home.

  • Total track info lost

When playing songs thru iTunes the total number of songs on the CD info disappears.
i.e. the track will initially say its track 6 or 12 but after playing it will just say its track 6
If you then look in the track "Info" box for the song the Comments box contains data like this....
    000009F7 00000210 00006135 00002AA1 000261E5 0003D44E 0000818E 000081DD 000287F5 00027D8D
    Any ideas?

Well, I hate to tell you this, but you're kinda screwed here.
If you initially ripped the songs from CD using iTunes, you can use the Get Track Names function to get the song infomation to some degree.
But if you ripped these elsewhere or something, then you're just going to have to put all that info back by hand, basically. You can make it faster by using a program called "Tag&Rename" or some other masstagger.
If these are MP3 files, you could also try the MusicBrainz tagger. It scans files and tries to figure out what song they are from the audio itself. It has about a 60-70% success rate, and makes a pretty good guess at 25-28% of the remainder. Easy to use, once you get the hang of it.

  • Recently my ipad and iphone 5S were stolen - is there any way to track them if İ had not yet installed find my iphone?

My ipad Air and ıiphone 5S were recentşy stolen from my apartment.  They are relaticely new and I had not had a chance to install the Find my iphone app.  HOwever it is in my cloud from my last iphone.  İs there any way to track these two devices?  İs there a standard GPS locator on the newer models?
    Thank you for your time!

If you did not activate Find my iPhone when you set up the iPad/iPhone, there is no way of tracking them. Having installed the Find my Phone app is not necessary and it is irrelevant as that app is for tracking other lost iDevices.
Log in to your iCloud account via the iCloud website. Do you see the stolen devices? Do the show up on the device list? If so, the Find my Phone is active and you will be able to track them if they connect to the internet. If not, they are gone.

  • TRACKING A LOST IPOD

Anybody know if there is any way to track a lost iPod touch? My daughter took hers to school (against our, and school's, rules) and promptly lost it. IS there any number or way to figure out if it is being used or logged in somehow?

If you had an active MobileMe account before it was lost, and the Find my iPod touch/iPhone feature was activated, and Location Services was on, and the iPod was connected to a WiFi network, and that WiFi network is in Skyhooks WifI location database, you might've been able to determine its very rough location (accurate to within 30m to 100m), and send the iPod a remote wipe command.
Without those things, there's nothing you can do.

  • Changing track info.

I recently purchased a macbook air. All my music files and mp3s are stored on my partners cloud drive (WD Mycloud if that helps) I have tried changing my permissions, but they are all read/write. my little padlocks are all unlocked and as far as I can tell none of my music files are protected.
So WHY can I not change any of my track infos that state the whole album/artist/track as the track name and everything else as unknown and i cannot change this!
Pulling my hair out. Please HELP!!!

Is the drive used with a Windows computer?  If so that could be the problem.  Macs cannot write to NTFS drives without special utilities.

Daughter lost all contacts and pictures. She is crushed...Any chance for recovery?

        MeAndCoke,
So sorry to hear she has lost all her contacts like that. Sounds like you are saying the device completed a factory reset on it's own. Is that right? I'm afraid unless the contacts and media were backed up somewhere prior to this happening they would be gone. Let's prevent that from occurring in the future and protect your contacts and media! You can set up backup Assistant Plus Contacts to back up your contacts: http://vz.to/1s5IAzj . Use our cloud service to back up your media: http://vz.to/1s5IDv5 .

  • Why doesn't my iTunes Library list any  track info.  for the CDs I burn?

I've bought a new PC and after setting up iTunes i began to copy my CD library back into my new iTunes library on my new computer.
But when I copy a CD now the only album information that copies is "track 1" "track 2" "track 3" etc. No song titles, no artist names, no album names. No album covers. All of this information was automatically copied from the same CDs on my old computer with a slightly older version of iTunes.
What's wrong? How can I fix this?

Are you reimporting the CDs themselves or are you copying over the files from the old computer? I assume the latter.
If you are copying over the old files from the old computer, what format where they imported as? My guess is that you used AIFF or WAV files? If so, that is the problem. WAV and AIFF files can not store info like artist, track title, etc. like you can with MP3 and AAC files. Instead the iTunes database file (the .itl file on a Windows machine) keeps track of that stuff. If you move the WAV or AIFF files, that information is lost/disconnected.
Try this and see if it works. Pick all the tracks from an album and then use the Get Track Info command. Since they were originally imported by iTunes, it may work and fetch the proper information.

  • I accidentally formatted my portable hard drive when setting it up for time machine. Is there any way for me to get back my lost files?

I have an external hard drive of the brand Western Digital.
Before I got my iMac I moved a lot of my important files from my PC to the hard drive and today I went on and connected it to my iMac to move my files over to it.
When it had connected a window popped up that asked if I wanted to use this hard drive with the program Time Machine and create backups. Without thinking it trough enough and reading the warning properly (I'm stupid I know) I clicked "yes". I then realised how stupid it was and cancelled the formatting of the hard drive. But somehow the program still managed to delete all my important files and can't find any way to get them back. Neither can I connect the hard drive to my PC anymore so I can't check if the files are still there (which I doubt they are since I can't see them on my iMac either).
And now I wonder: is there any way for me to get back my lost files or are they lost forever?
    Thank you in advance!
    //Gina

A data recovery specialist or some data recovery programs should be able to help.  Most format simply rewrite the directory tree saying no files are on this disk.  The bits that represent the files are still flipped appropreiately so they still exists, you just don't have the location info to get at them.  Secure formats and erases rewrite each bit to a zero or 1 or random so the data is then truely gone.  This type of format takes a long time to complete.
I'm not making a recomendation of a particular program but here is one company that does what you ask:
http://www.remosoftware.com/mac-recovery  The cost is pretty high but I'm sure they don't sell many copies and need to cover their development costs.
Good luck and don't write anything on the freshly formatted disk until you decide what to do.

  • TS4006 Is there any way to find a lost/stolen iPhone's most recent location, or to track if the iPhone has been activated with another Apple ID?

The iPhone 5 was either lost or stolen, and it does not appear as online in the Find iPhone app. Can i access the last place it was online? And if i can't, is there any way to track my phone to see if the data was cleared and someone is using it with another Apple ID?

The last known location is displayed for up to 24 hours, then it is cleared until it goes back online, if ever.  If the phone has been restored and reactived as a new device, or erased and set up with a different ID, it can no longer be tracked.

  • Is there any way to track or find my lost ipod touch 5G without using Find My Iphone?

Imlost my ipod about a week and a half ago, and the last place i remeber using it was ina friends car, but i looked in my friends car and it was no where to be found!! Kinda weird, but anyway I want to know if there is any way for me to track or find it without the Find my Iphone app.

Only the old fashioned way like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    No app is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    iCloud: Find My iPhone
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order
Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product

  • Lost My Iphone 4. Is there any way to track it ?

    Hello Team,
I had bought and unlocked version of Iphone 4 from Hong kong. I was using it here in India. In my recent visit to Hong kong (2 weeks before) I lost my Iphone. I have the IMEI code with me. Is there any way to track it?
    Regards
    NN

Posting your phone number in a public forum is not smart.
If you had enabled "Find My iPhone" prior to the device being lost, you may be able to track it via iCloud.com.  This assumes the device is powered on, the SIM has not been removed or replaced, and the device has not been restored.
APPLE DOES NOT TRACK DEVICES FOR ANY REASON!

  • Is there any way to keep persistent ID's for tracks the same when migrating to a new computer?

    Hi There,
I've been using iTunes to maintain a music database for several years now. When I need to send somone tracks I use the persistent ID to identify the tracks since any of the other info can be in flux at any given point in time.
This has worked fine for many years, but now I'd like to upgrade my machine but I'm noticing after importing my library to the new computer that the persistent ID's were changed. I need to figure out if I can get them to be the same as they were or I won't be able to upgrade without resending any and all tracks that have already been sent to other DB's (Which would not go over well with my clients. . . so I'll be stuck on this ancient machine. . . )
Any help here would be greatly apreciated!
    Thanks
    Andrew

See my post Make a split library portable. The library persistent IDs are stored in the .itl database and assigned as tracks are added to the library. The .xml files is a subset of the .itl data written out for use by third party programs. A new library with the same media imported to it will have different IDs assigned to each track. You should be able to connect the drive to the original computer and manipulate the files and folders to gain the portable status, then move the library to the new machine where everything should then work as before.
As Limnos says the IDs are meant to be used internally by iTunes. They are how it records which tracks are in a playlist for example, or what is synced to a device, so that ratings, play counts etc. can be synced across even after changes in metadata.
