Any remedy for eye strain using macbook pro retina?

since purchasing a macbook pro retina display around 33 weeks ago I'm getting major eye strain from using it and I'm not talking excessively, only an hour or two at a time, trying reducing the brightness but still no better, anybody else had success with this problem?as i know others have had same issue

I can only tell you my experience after having used the anti-glare screen for over 5 years.  I can sit in front of my laptop for hours without any adverse effects.  I passed on the retina Macbook Pro because it seems like an abomination not to offer such a beautiful screen in anti-glare format.  The retina is less glossy than the regular screen, but nowhere close to the anti-glare in comfort (for me, at least).
I would check with her doctor, too.  It may actually be that a screen with a smaller native resolution is better for her.

  • IMovie and iPhoto won't update on Used Macbook Pro Retina

I purchased a used macbook pro retina and did the usually initial setup for the laptop. My issue is that these two stock apps won't update in the app store. I recieve a message asking me to login using the ID that was used to purchase the app. I am assuming this is the ID of the previous owner , which of course I do not have. Any Ideas ???

The MBP needs to be disassociated from the original owners Apple ID. The original owner needs to call Apple Care to request that. Or if you have a sales receipt that proves you legally have purchased the MBP they may do it for you.
Then the MBP needs to be wiped clean and the most recent version of OS X that shipped with the Mac installed using OS X Recovery. You can also reinstall the iLife apps, which you should accept into your Apple ID in the Mac App Store on the Purchaes pane.

  • HT201380 I AM USING MACBOOK PRO RETINA. DO I NEED TO INSTALL REMOTE DESKTOP 3.7.1 ?

    Hi,
i am using MacBook Pro Retina 15 , 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7.
Can anyone tell me about Remote Desktop Client Update 3.7.1 neccessary to install in my MacBook pro Please

    Hi
Apple Remote Desktop is part of your OS and just as other system updates you should install it as it fixes some issues as listed here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1710
Apple Remote Desktop is not a virus, malware or anything else that might be seen as 'nastyware'. As with any update you should follow Apple's advice prior to running the update and make sure you have a full and complete backup of any data you can't do without.
    HTH?

i am using MacBook Pro retina display with mountain lion but it is not updating to 10.8.2 either this updation is available and also had downloded and working on my friends Macbook Air...why not working on my machine can anybody help me out plzz

An Apple Tech person told me (I have the same problem) that this is a problem that the OSX 10.8.2 update has with solid-state storage devices.  They are working on a fix, he said, and will push it out via Software Update when it's ready.  He had no idea when that would be.

  • Mac os x yosemite 10.10.1 still lags and bugs while using macbook pro retina 13inch i5 mid 2014

i just got macbook pro retina and i upgraded to yosemite 10.10.1 its still have bugs and lags a lot , does anybody feel the same ,
its not smooth at all ..

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • HCL for BD writer on macbook pro retina

Where can I find hardware compatibility list for BD friter on my macbook pro retina ?

Given that the Retina has a HDMI native port, that should be the first to try. No adapters, no dongles, just a plain old straight cable. Only reason to go different would be that the display and the Mac couldn't reach an agreement for optimal viewing.
That is, provided the display has an HDMI input.

  • Eye Strain from Macbook Pro (2012) Anti-Glare?

    Hi everyone,
I am thinking about buying my mother a macbook pro. She has been using macbook (2007) until today, so it will be a great gift.
Her eyes are not that good and can get motion sick easily (if that matters...), so I would like to know if any one had noticed eye strains, headach, etc from anti-glare version of macbook pro. I heard regular and glossy displays have possibility of causing such symptoms so those are out of options. So anti-glare or retina? Retina version is more than what she needs but I heard retina display could be better than anti-glare for someone. I am willing to pay retina version if anti-glare display causes eye strains while retina display does not. I would like to hear some experiences, thoughts, and advices. Taking her to store and test those displays would be best, but I would like to avoid it, since I want this to be a surprise gift. However, If I had to take her to store, how should I test which display is good for her?
    Thank you very much!

  • Anyone using Macbook Pro retina 13"?

Interested to find out the response times when editing RAW photos on Aperture with the new MacBook Pro 13" retina.  (USe canon 7D)
I was about to buy when was told that the graphics card is not the same as the 15" - love the smaller size but don't want to end up watching the wheel while Aperture processes the changes made to the RAW photos..
    Thanks for your input

There are too many variables to provide any useful guidance.  In general, Aperture is well-engineered to take full advantage of whatever hardware you have, and will use whatever you can provide.  If you can afford faster hardware, it will likely make Aperture faster.  Whether that is worth the cost depends very much on things such as:
    - what you think of "normal", as "fast", and as "slow".
    - the size of your RAW files
    - what kinds of adjustments, and how many of them, you apply
    - the number of Imaes you adjust at one time
    - what else is currently running on your computer
If you provide complete specs of, say, two machines you are considering, some of the knowledgeable folks here might jump in with some specific suggestions.  My _hunch_: a 13" with an SSD with 100 GB free space, 8 GB RAM for OS X and Aperture alone (get more if you want to multitask), and whatever GPU it comes with should run Aperture well for almost all users.  If the size difference between 13" and 15" is important to you, I wouldn't recommend against the 13".  The 15" will -- at additional cost -- run faster, perform better, and give you much more screen real-estate.
Imho no one running Aperture should select a laptop that doesn't have the Retina screen.

  • Apeture for RAW photos on Macbook Pro retina?

My Macbook Pro 15" 2011 was stolen and I planned to replace it with the MacBook Pro 13" retina simply because liked the smaller size - but then discovered that the graphics card was not the same.  I edit my RAW photos on Aperture.
Will I be doing the waiting game with a 13" or should I stick to the 15"?  I was going to buy the top of the range 13" but will only be able to afford the mid range retina 15".  (older versions of the macbook pro i.e. non retina macbook are no longer available new in South Africa)
Currently I am using my old 2008 iMac (which I upgraded as much as possible) and find that I spend lots of time 'watching the wheel' when I process several photos one after the other.

Given that the Retina has a HDMI native port, that should be the first to try. No adapters, no dongles, just a plain old straight cable. Only reason to go different would be that the display and the Mac couldn't reach an agreement for optimal viewing.
That is, provided the display has an HDMI input.

Do you know what is on the left side without opening the old working MBP up? It can't be the battery since it is warm and removed right now. Also, is there a free iStat one since it is only a two weeks trial?
If it's a unibody Mac from late 2008, then the left hand side towards the top is where the primary fan is for the CPU/Video Card/Main Chipset is.  This part can get hot if you are running something that's pegging your CPU or is graphic intensive (game, video encoding, etc.)
On the bottom towards the left hand side where your wrist is, is the connection for the battery.  If it's getting hot at this lower left hand side, maybe it could be a failing battery.
Take a look at this page for the teardown of the late 2008 MBP 15".  http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Unibody+Teardown/590/1
If your MBP is an early 2008 model, look at this page.  http://www.ifixit.com/Device/MacBook_Pro_15%22_Core_2_Duo_Models_A1226_and_A1260
According to http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .4-15-early-2008-penryn-specs.html on the model, it is the early one. If so, then it seems like it is the video card that is getting hot as shown in http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/CRBYPZtYRqpWYY4O.large and
http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/WjeLRQjL3niKFSjB.huge ... Where does the fan blow hot air out of from this MBP though?

  • HT3231 Trouble transferring Office for Mac onto new Macbook Pro Retina

I just transferred Office 2011 from my old MacBookPro to a new MacBookPro w/ Retina but it says "The Office for Mac installation did not complete successfully because there was a problem with the installer.  To fix the issue please reinstall Office for Mac."  My original installation of Office was via a disk with an enclosed Product Key.  The new MacBook doesn't have a DVD drive.  Can I just download a new copy of Office and use the old Product Key or is there another solution??

Yes as Kappy points out or you could make a DMG of the Office DVD and copy that over to your new MBPr. Or you could buy an external DVD drive and it does not have to be an Apple brand DVD drive. Any USB external DVD drive will work. Best to get one that is Tray Load instead of the Slot load that Apple uses.
