Any resolution with Xfi cards and Win 7 64bit with over 4gb??

I recently went from 2gb to 4gb and found that my xtremegamer will not work unless I set the GB below 4gb. I have all updated drivers. I don't want to decrease my ram or buy a new card/use onboard sound. I see that this issue has been ongoing for quite awhile now. Is there REALLY no resolution for this? Is there an outside driver that works and has decent quality sound? Anything?

@I'm using an old Xtrememusic card on a Win 7 / 64 bit machine with 8 gb RAM and no issues. I installed the beta driver a few days ago, but, as of yesterday, it appears Creative made it the uni'versal driver for it's X-Fi cards. You may want to try the newest driver (.04).

OK I got it!!
I put in a Price Alert at the egg and got it for 09.00/with FREE shipping so I'm stoked!! it DOES have a yellow sticker on the box that says "works with Windows 7" so I guess this is all I need.
Are there ANY suggestions on how to go about installing this in Windows 7 64bit, I want the front panel to work and will use it for movies music and mostly gaming.
what about Windows 7 installing the card as a standard sound device at boot, is there a way to prevent this if not how is this fixed?

VMware error on Qosmio x500-110 and Win 7 64bit

I am having problems running Vmware player on this notebook. It allways gives this error:
Operation on file "D:\VM\WinXP - VS 2008 - Blanco\XPSP3VMwTEMP-s003.vmdk" failed.
If the file resides on a remote file system, please make sure your network connection and the server where this disk resides are functioning properly. If the file resides on removable media, reattach the media.
Choose Retry to attempt the operation again.

Choose Continue to forward the error to the guest operating system.
D is local, secondary drive, not remote one. I have trying same with C primary drive, and allways getting this error. I have tried:
Vmware Player 3.0, 3.1
Vmware player 2.5.3
Vmware workstation 7.01
on original BIOS versions, then on 1.9, and latest 2.2...
I am running Windows 7 Enterprise N, 64 bit. Everything is updated, I don't have any issues or problems except this. It is not occasional error, it is rule! Every time i start any version of vmware i get this error. Vmware support told me to try several BIOS versions to see if there is problems with motherboard but I did that and no luck. I have tried all of their products and got exactly the same behavior. I have tried all combination of vmware player options and got allways same error...
Please can someone confirm that VmWare Player or Workstation is working on their laptop? Am I missing something? Virtualization is enabled in BIOS. I don't have idea what is going on... Vmware image is working flawlessly in other notebooks (HP 8510w, Toshiba Tecra2, Dell Latitude etc..), and on all tried desktops/servers. Definitely it has something to do with this notebook.

Thats nonsense you cannot try different BIOS versions because there is only one version (at this time BIOS v2.20)

Why should not run the software on this notebook??

So it should not be a problem with the hardware
I think its software issue maybe the Win 7 64bit version makes some troubles with the Win XP 32bit OS which you try to run via VM.
At the other hand the error says something about network connection and the server and disk resides
The notebook supports 2 HDDs and SATA drivers are needed in order to recognize the HDD. Maybe this is the issue what do you think???

Garbled sound NF4/Sound Blaster XFi Gamer with over 4GB memory

Sound is garbled, some people say it is popping, scratchy. System is: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum/SLI, Opteron 185, 4 GB DDR 500 Memory, Sound Blaster XFi Extreme Gamer Sound Card and ATI HD 4850. This is a clean install of Windows 7 64 Home. Latest Creative drivers for Win7 cause sound to sound broken up or garbled. The work around is to lower the amount of memory windows can use below 4 GB, through msconfig. This work around gets the sound working, but windows now shows I have 3.25 GB of memory. The drivers seem to be the problem and I would like to know it anyone else has had this problem and what they did about it?

Question: Updating T61 with SSD and Win 7 64bit?

First, my apologies for giving up so quickly and posting after my initial searching. The support pages and forums have changed considerably since I've been here last and drivers/updates don't seem as easy to find as they were before.
I have a 2008-2009 era T61 / Nvidia 140M currently running XP. It's still in good shape running well so I've decided to add memory, a Crucial SSD drive (listed as compatible on their site advisor tool) and Windows 7 64 bit.
My plan is to:
(1) Update BIOS which is currently on 2.25 to latest (good idea or bad?) and consider middleton later if things are stable
(2) Install SSD drive making sure BIOS is set to AHCI (and I've checked to see there are no firmware updates for the drive from manufacturer)
(3) Install Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
(4) Install Lenovo System Update application and run
(5) Run Windows update
Will this give me all I need or do I need to download some things, e.g. drivers, separately before starting the Windows install?
I see the Thinkvantage tools of the past (Prodcutivity center, Tool Box, etc) are gone and apparently replaced by Lenovo Solutions Center. The T61 is not listed as supported. Is there an alternative I missed?
(6) Install other apps, utilities, etc.

Your plan sounds good, I personally would do first 5) instead of 4) but that's just me. I would also do the middleton update first (or better said, after the BIOS update).

PREL 4 and Win 7 64bit

I'm using Premiere Elements 4 (and Photoshop Elements6) with Vista. I'm doing a clean install of Windows 7 (hopefully 64 bit). Will these programs work with Win 7-64? 32? If not, what version(s) will? Thanks much. (I couldn't find an answer by searching).

In general, I would think that they would. I believe that many users got those to run under Vista (not sure about 64-bit though), and Win7 seems even better with legacy software compatibility, than Vista ever was.
One concern that I would have would be the Win7-64 drivers, which seem to be somewhat problematic, even with contemporary software. There is hope that SP1 will fix some of those issues.
Unfortunately, the above is pure speculation, as I have not attempted to run PrE 4 on anything but my XP Pro SP3. Maybe others will be able to confirm, or deny my speculation.

I've just picked up an old Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatalty FPS from a friend, and I cant get it to work under Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Last driver doesnt work, and i'm seraching everywhere in the net but i can only find other peoples with the same problems - and no solution.
Is there a way to use this board or is better to use it as a freesbee?

hey trikat, i did some further research on this forum...and it seems like you need to download this program to FORCE the drivers to stay with the line 2 mic 2 jack (aka front mic plug)
I went into audio properties...and I noticed that by default, my line 2 mic 2 was not "selected" so thats why windows never picks it up....all I did was select it...then went to sound recorder to test my voice...windows picks it up now...problem is, everytime I join a game or whatever, it keeps switching it back to default mic instead of line 2 mic 2... I guess you need to download that program
right now I just have my headphones connected directly to the sound card...and my 2. speakers connected to the front panel...this is just a temporary fix.. I wanna do more research on this subject

X-Fi Platinum Win 7 64bit

I am still having issues with the SB software/drivers not detecting a card in my computer. I have the latest BIOS for my motherboard, which resolved the issue of IRQ conflicts between my X-Fi and video card, and Win 7 64bit is detecting my card, but with the triangle exclamation error. When I attempt to install the latest software/drivers from Creative it tells me that it does not detect any hardware in my system. I have also tried the method of using Windows update, but that also fails, is anyone else having issues with this yet? Update about my sistuation. I have installed the card in another computer I have, and am still having same problems. I tried it in both PCI slots, Windows XP detects card, but when attempting to install drivers/software it informs me that there is no supported product in my computer. Wondering if I should give up on trying to use this card, unless anyone has any suggestions, cheers.

Outputting Lossy Dolby Digital & Lossy DTS 5.1 audio via HDMI - Dv7-4074 Win 7 64bit ATI HD 5650

I'm trying to output lossy DD & DTS 5.1 soundtracks via HDMI to my HDTV then to my AV receiver via optical. Two channel LPCM works fine. I checked for updated drivers for both the ATI HD 5650 AV Card and Win 7; says both are current versions. I'm using the HP MediaSmart program for blu-ray/dvd playback with Windows 7 64bit. Any help would be appreciated.

In Win-Control Panel-Hardware & Sound It says ATI-HDMI output limited to 2 Channel only no compressed formats available.
Is there a driver/setting for Win 7 or ATI or Mediasmart to work through this issue. I know there is some small change i need
to make for this computer to be setup.

for lossy multichannel sound; i know you need hdmi to the recevier for lossless multichannel lpcm/dts master etc.

The dv6700z And dv9700z WILL Support Over 4gb of RAM

I've asked on these and other forums if my dv6700z and dv9700z laptops would support over 4gb of RAM and I was told absolutely not. The hard limit on these motherboards is set at 4gb. Period. Even the memory manufacturers told me the 4gb limit was cast in stone. I could forget about squeezing a few more years from my laptops with life-giving RAM upgrades.
Well, I pleased to announce that these laptops absolutely WILL support over 4gb when running under a 64-bit operating system. I have just installed a Patriot 4gb PC2-6400 memory module carrying p/n PSD24G8002S from NewEgg, along with one existing 2gb module. The machines all booted and addressed 6gb quite nicely, thank you. Now, I barely even notice hard drive activity since the upgrade. 64-bit Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 Linux all work flawlessly with over 4gb.
Now that my little experiment has worked, I am going back to NewEgg to slug a full 8gb (4gb x 2) of PC2-6400 memory in all my dv6000 and dv9000 laptops. I can highly recommend this life-extending feature to anyone running 64-bit operating systems.
By the way, NewEgg pictures these modules with 4 chips per side, but they have 8 chips per side. $70 each and free shipping. 200 pin DDR2 RAM is expensive, but probably not getting any cheaper.

I just bought the same module for my HP Elitebook 6930p. I only bought one to make sure it would work (I have always bought Crucial memory in the past) but when I saw the price of a Crucial module compared to the Patriot module, I couldn't resist. I bought the Patriot module based on the many excellent reviews.
My module came yesterday and works great! So, I ordered another one last night and can't wait to max out the memory in this notebook to 8 gigs!.
Even at 6 GB, this thing flies! My WEI dropped .2 of a point from 5.9 to 5.7 but I am sure this is due to not having matched pairs as this notebook supports DDR mode.
I will run the WEI tool again after installing the matching 4 GB module and expect the index to go up again to at least where it was.

"A How-To" on the steps to FIX the Problem of NO Sound Card DETECTION with AUDIGY 2 and Win XP

Note#: When restarting the PC each time, shut off the main power switch on the Power Supply then back on.
Note#2: You will need the Windows XP CD WITH the SP2 on it or have the download SP2 Install file from MS on your PC. I have it on CD.
. Remove the sound Card
2. Use the Removal/Un-installation Procedures for the drivers in Knowledge Base Under Windows XP Step by step. Restart to get all the files deleted in the Creative folder if necessary.
Here is the (Solution ID#) for the Uninstallaion found in the Creative.com Knowledge Base: SID72 "How to uninstall Sound Blaster drivers and applications?"
Alternati'vely, Click on the Sound Blaster Picture Box under the Knowledge Base Main Search Page and the article should be in the resulting list.
3. Use the DCProSetup_.exe from http://files.trunetworks.com/utilities/
Use it carefully Selecting [Creative] then Check the box for Muntiple Cleaning Filters, and remove the Creative Audio Drivers by Clicking on Start.
4. Go into the Registry by Typing Regedit in the Start>Run.. Menu
Navigate and remove the Entry for CTCMSGo.exe, it is running in the back ground otherwise and i believe it interrupts the re-installation of MediaSource Files.
HKEY_CURRENT USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
The file link/tag, it will be on the right half of the screen, Delete it. CTCMSGo.exe=(Creative Technologies Media Source Go)
5. Restart the PC, dont forget to switch Power Supply to off while powered down and on before powering back up.
6.Go to the Win XP SP2 CD or the file downloaded, select re-install but choose UPDATE, not New Installation. Let the Install run and update your pc, this procedure has no data loss or settings changes in Windows.
7. Restart PC
8. Turn off PC and install the Audigy 2 Card. Then turn on the PC. At this point you might get a plxcore.plx Error of file missing. Not to worry.. copy the file from within the Creative Drivers CD and paste it into the Creative Folder In C:\Program Files\Creative
The Knowledge base Article on the steps is: SID287 "Error: Program could not load because Plxcore.plx cannot be found"
9. Power up and see if you get PCI Device, and Audio Controller Detetion. If you dont then do the following:
A) Remove the Sound Card and Re-install the Win XP SP2 Update a number of times ( I did this about 5 times until detection) Each time restart and install the Sound Card into any of the empty PCI Ports until detection.
If that does not work after a number of times try the following:
B)Power off and switch the PCI slot of the Sound Card (to all the PCI slots if necessary with complete power off each time) Without Re-installing XP SP2 Update.
0. After you get Detection, The Windows Auto Installer for Drivers will pop up..select Find Drivers Automatically, then Install then install the drivers it finds. It will put in some basic Audigy Drivers from the CD or online i'm not sure where it gets them from. Keep your Driver CD in the CD Dri've.
.Restart the PC, then install the Drivers and Media Source Files from the CD (it may not all get installed and may give an error and you have to shut down and re-install the drivers and Media Source over again and over again so it fills in the gap of missing files/drivers until it all works without deleting the previously installed parts).
2. Only install this update from the File/ Downloads Section on the Creative website: EAX4DRV_AUDIGY2__84_50.exe Dated 29 July 04. The new beta one that was released is what started all my troubles, so plz i urge you to wait for it to be official.. unless you really want to test it out at your risk.
And there you have it.. in 8 Hours and some ideas from friends and relati'ves concerning detection problems of other hard ware they have had i decided to play Roulette all night and this combo works. I had to play Roulette switching the PCI slots (5 of them), and then towards the end play Roulette with the Creative Driver CD install... until they all work perfectly. WHEW!!!
Notice: I hope if you are really ticked off at having no sounds and want to try this at your own risk and responsiblity go ahead, and I wish you luck. None of the proedures are too out of the ordinary. I dont know if it will work for you but it worked for me and maybe it will possibly for other similar Sound Cards as well.. like ZS or Li've! etc. with similar problems. Happy Sound Blasting!!!
