Any Rev. A 17PB upgrader to MBP 2.16?

I have the Rev. A of the 17 PB for almost three years. Wondering whether I should be an early adopter of the MBP and update the CPU to 2.16GHz and HD to 100GB/7200rpm? The Rev. A 17PB has served me well. Never had any problem with it.
Played around with a 1.83 stock MBP. iApps work fine. But Photoshop CS2 was three to four times as slow on it as compared to my 17PB. Maybe, I wasn't fair with the RAM and HD. My all core software are not Universal ready yet. Sigh...
Not worry about modem, PCMCIA, S-Video and FW800. Then I realised that I have to buy more accessories to compensate the loss. Ouch! Then again, I think it's okay. Wish more ExpressCard peripherals are available soon.
One more than, have to figure out how to boot an external hard disk. It's either I reformat my current startup ext. HD with the Intel Mac and reinstall everything or buy a new ext. HD and start everything from scratch. Kinda headache exercise.
Still struggling whether to change or not.

I had a rev A 17pb and upgraded to the 2.0 ghz MBP with 7200 rpm 100gb drive and upgraded the ram to 2gb (OWC ram). I love the machine. I will say that the few programs I've run under rosetta, run much better with alot of ram installed.
I don't own Photoshop, but I've tried out the Photoshop CS2 demo....startup took about 20-25 seconds. Opening a fairly large picture (3072x2048), took about 5-6 seconds. I tried the liquefy filter....moving the cursor around quickly...takes about a second for the filter to catch up. Using some other filters (stained glass, mosaic tiles, emboss) only took 2-3 seconds at the most.
I would definitely say that if you maximize your ram, I don't think you will notice much difference. Unless you are doing extremely large format work with lots of filters, then I would guess that your 17 may be quicker on the more intensive filters

im planning to upgrade my MBP late 2011's ram from 4gb to 8gb. Is there any specific brand of ram that i should buy or i can buy any brand that suits my MBP? im aware of all the details that i need to consider pc3 - 10600 1333MHz 4gb. i just want to know is there any specific brand or i can use any brand,
    Thank you.

The most reliable sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.  Macs seem to be selective with RAM so some brands will not work. Make certain that you get RAM with the exact specifications that apply to your MBP.
    Ciao.
If you have a need, be advised that you MBP can actually support 16 GB RAM.

  • After upgrade my MBP from snow leopard to mountain lion all my smb connections stop to work.

After upgrade my MBP from snow leopard to mountain lion all my smb connections stop to work.
Now iám using mac os 10.8.2
I can see the server, I can choose the drive, but when try to open a folder the message on Finder is: You don't have permissions to see the content.
I already delete the key and try to connect again, but the problem persist. Already try change the ip from file server. Already try differents users. (admin, guest, etc...)
I have a windows server 2008 and a NAS working with SMB protocol. Both with the same problem.
That problem occurs only on Finder, if I try see the folder by Terminal, is possible to see my files.
    Any Solution ?
    Any Tip ?
    Any Question ?

Not knowing how much RAM is installed in your iMac, your iMac can take a total of 8 GBs of RAM.
Before upgrading to Mountain Lion, I would strongly suggest installing the maximum 8 GBs of RAM.
Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
Here is OWC's link to your model iMac and the RAM modules you will need.macsales

You can purchase and download OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store in the OS X dock.
Before installing, it would be prudent to make a backup copy of all of your important data or your entire current system. Either using, optical discs, USB flash drives or external hard drives.
This is too insure protection of your data in case something goes wrong with the install of OS X Mountain Lion.
    Good Luck!

After an update or installation, your MBP may take some time to index its files. Give it some time - but if you don't see any improvement, post here - you'll get an answer!

  • How do I downgrade from Lion to Snow Leopard without losing iWork 09?  I upgraded my MBP from 10.5 (originally 10.4) to 10.6, then again to 10.7.  Should I go back to 10.4, 10.5 or just to 10.6?

Thanks for the information!  My sister gave me the MBP for my daughter with Leopard installed.  I purchased Snow Leopard and installed it, then my daughter purchased Lion.  So I do have all the installers.  If iWork wasn't included with any of those, I guess my sister purchased it while running Leopard.  I'll have to contact her.  Thanks again.

  • Mountain Lion OS upgrade on MBP 2008?

Would you suggest upgrading a MBP 2008 with the Mountain Lion OS? My computer runs like the day I bought it but im concerned with all the chit chat about compatibility that I may get myslf into trouble here.... I do have Lion on it currently and have no issues......

    Before upgrading consider:
Don't upgrade if you are in the midst of important work. Wait until you have finished.
If you are having problems with your computer get them sorted out before you upgrade.
Verify that any mission critical software will be compatible with the upgrade.
    Do you need the upgrade?
Make a bootable backup of your current system before upgrading. This will make returning to your previous system easier should you decide to do so.

  • Hi all, I upgraded my MBP to Lion , but on the screen where i need to type my password, click  on my photo and it does not appear the place for me to type my password and it stay stuck there. Can anyone solve this problem for me?

Reboot the machine holding Command and r keys down, you'll boot into Lion Recovery Partition
In there will be Disk Utility, use that to select your Lion OS X Partition and Repair Permissions.
After that is done reboot the machine and see if you can log in.
If not repeat the above steps to get into Lion Recovery, get online and reinstall Lion again, it will overwrite the installed version and hopefully after that it wil work.
    Reboot and try again.
If not follow my steps to create a Snow Leopard Data Recovery drive, then option boot from it and grab a copy of your files off the machine.
Then reinstall all your programs onto the external drive like setting up a new machine, then use Disk Utility to erase the entire internal boot drive (select the drive media on the far left, not the partiton slightly indented) format Option: GUID , 1 partition OS X Extended and then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the external to the newly formatted internal drive. Once that is finished reboot and disconnect the external drive.
Once you go that, boot into Snow Leopard and update to 10.6.8, use the AppStore and option click on Purchases and download Lion again and install.
Lots of work, but there is no Lion disks.

  • Not able to sort any grid after Tools upgrade from 8.49.10 to 8.50.07

Not able to sort any grid after Tools upgrade from 8.49.10 to 8.50.07, also when I click on any prompt button the prompt values are displaying in a separate screen rather than displaying in a model window.

I have resolved it by applying stylesheets and clearing the cache.

  • I have a 3GS phone that can no longer be upgraded on my Powerbook because it is ancient and can only run 10.4.11, consequently itunes will only upgrade to 9.2.1(4). Is there any way i can upgrade the phone so hereafter i will not need a computer to do it.

I have a 3GS phone that can no longer be upgraded on my Powerbook because it is ancient and the os will only run 10.4.11, consequently iTunes will only upgrade to 9.2.1(4). Please don't answer that i need to upgrade the computer os because that has been a past nightmare i have been through too many times.
Is there any way i can upgrade the phone w/o going to an apple store so hereafter w/ the upgrade to the new os (whenever that gets squared away), i will not need a computer to do it?
    Thanks in advance,

Solved my issue by setting up a new account on my daughter's computer. Not 100% solved, but i was able to get the update on my 3GS.

  • How to upgrade my MBP glossy screen to antiglare??

I already purchased the MBP 15 however I want to change the screen to antiglare. I know I can install an antiglare film but this hits the image.
How to upgrade my MBP glossy screen to antiglare after I already purchased the MBP? Is it possible to do it through apple?

That would mean replacing the top cover of hte MBP, something on the order of $500...and would have to be done by Apple or an authorized Apple repair or it will void the warranty.  You could try talking to an Apple store genius bar person and see if they would do that but it will not be cheap.

  • Is there any way I can upgrade to version 6 rather than IOS7?

Is there any way I can upgrade to version 6 rather than IOS7?

No.  iTunes and over the air updates work by detecting your hardware, and then only offer the latest available version of iOS compatible with that hardware.  Older releases will simply not be available for hardware.

  • I have an iPod touch 4th gen 8 gb and ever since I got the iOS 6 update it has been slower and there appears to be less space and I am getting really frustrated any chance I can upgrade to the new 5 gen?

Ever since i got ios 6 it has been a slower and it says i only have 2 gb left when i have10 app and 0 songs. I got this iPod a few years ago so the warranty has already expired. Please if there is any way I can upgrade let me know.

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. Sometimes when you update and do other things files will be corrupted and make the "other" category large. Restoring from backup usually reduce the other .
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

When you complete your current contract, Verizon has options on which incentives you would like to take.
You can sign a new 2 yr service contract by purchasing a new phone at a considerable discount(~$400+).
You can also choose to purchase a new smartphone on Edge at full retail cost for which Verizon will give you either a 37.5% or a 62.5% discount(depending on your data allowance) on your monthly line access fee when on the More Everything plan.
If you choose to simply continue using your current phone on the More Everything plan, Verizon ALSO offers the same 37.5%/62.5% discount(depending on your data allowance) on your monthly line access fee.
Of course, as with anything else, there are some which always want more of a discount than what is offered.
Hopefully, after you get used to the rates with your new provider, you won't then want MORE which they likely won't be willing to give you.
Good luck with the new provider.
