Any scanning software suggestions?

Have HP G4010 Scanner and would like to try software other than IMage Capture or the preferences option. Do you have any suggestions. The old HP sw was quite nice but stopped operating several operating systems ago and HP is no help.

VueScan is very well reviewed, as is SilverFast.

  • Any scan software crashes while starting it..?!

    Hello!
I have a Canon scanner connected to my iMac G5 PowerPC with OS X 10.4.11 and the "CanoScan" software worked all fine. But then, one day, it always crashed when trying to start it - couldn't start it since then, it always crashes while starting.
Now I also have an HP multi-function printer/scanner and the same thing happens when trying to start "HP Scan". (Printing works fine.)
Any idea how I could make scan software work again with my Mac?
    Thanks!

"10-07 15:44:26.890: WARN/ActivityManager(71): Launch timeout has expired, giving up wake lock!"
Ive seen that error before. :-) It looks like it is bombing out trying to initialize the "WAKE_LOCK" permission. Make sure that you have all the permissions included in your AIR app. If you download the latest Extension for Flash CS5, the App & Installer settings will have a new "Permissions" tab and then you can select the permissions that you would like to include. In your case "WAKE_LOCK". Then publish
In previous CS5 extensions you would have to open up the release notes and then copy and paste, then edit the permissions in your app.xml file. This makes life much easier.
    Hope this helps-

  • My Epson Scan software running my Epson Perfection v500 Photo will not run after upgrading to mavericks. Any suggestions?

After upgrading to Mavericks I find that the Epson Scan software will no longer run so I cannot now use my Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner. Is there a solution to this? If not can I delete Mavericks and go back to Mountain Lion?

    Hi...
Epson is working on new drivers / software for this scanner.
Until then, you can perform basic scanning from Image Capture.
Or go for 3rd party app. like vuescan.

I assume you're referring to the Add-On Compatibility Checker disabling your extensions when you update?
To disable Add-On Compatibility Checking you can follow the following steps:
    1) Enter "about:config" into the URL bar (no quotes)
    2) Right click and create a New Boolean
    3) Name it: extensions.checkCompatibility
    4) Set it to: False
You can now restart Firefox and it will no longer disable your addons.
Keep in mind that without the Compatibility Checker Firefox can't guarantee that your extensions will work with the latest versions.

  • Document scanning software that allows for custom search fields, attaching a thumbnail to the scanned document file, and works with any scanner?

I am a professional photographer, with years of paper model releases. I would like to find a document scanning software that works with my exisiting flatbed scanner (Canon MP250) that I can customize the seach fields for (ie. name, agency, job, etc.) and also attach a thumbnail image to as a job reference. I would like the document to be searchable as well. I've looked at a few different document scanning software companies, but I haven't found one that allows me to attach a jpeg file to a scanned PDF. Does anyone know if software like this exists?

You can't do better than to use VueScan:

  • Scan Software missing buttons all of a sudden

My scan software used to have a + and a - button to add or delete pages from a scan session. Yesterday They weren't there. I restarted and that didn't work, so I updated (restarted) and uninstalled the driver (restarted) and reinstalled the printer driver. Opened the scan utility again and no setting I messed with would give me the buttons I was looking for.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Accila,
I read about how you do not have the options in the printer software to add or remove pages from scans any longer and I am hoping to help you!
Here are the steps I suggest for you:
    1. Run the Print and Scan Doctor
    2. If the tool did not correct the issue, run the installation - HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers
I hope that helps, have a wonderful day!

  • Small scanning software?

    Hi everyone,
I have the LaserJet M1132 MFP All-in-one system but I never used it for scanning, just for printing and copying, because i had another compact scanner. So I only had the driver installed on my computer so that they could communicate while printing. But I'm now getting rid of that scanner and I need a small, compatible scanning software that I could use for scanning with my 1132. And I don't want to use the huge 212 MB MFP full solution. I'm not a fan of these fancy looking, slow programs for users who don't know how to use computers. I want a small, simple program with all the scanning settings (like the resolution, save directory, size etc.) on one screen.. any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Lukas

Welcome to the HP Forums luky,
I see by your post that you would like to be able to scan with small compatible scanning software.
I can help you with this.
As long as the scanning drivers are already installed on the computer through the setup, you can use the Windows scanning software on the computer or a third party software.
Here is a document for how to Scan.
Select your operating system and How to scan without HP software.
If you want to be able to edit the scans and save them as PDF files, you will need to use the HP software for these features.
    Have a nice day!

  • Virus scanning software conflicts

We have had a problem in the past when we have had one of our Dynamic Vehicle Test computers running a labview executable program. The computer was connected to a network, and we would have problems with the program locking up when the virus scan software was active. Altruis virus scan software is what we used, but we had to deactivate the virus software, and disconnect the computer from the network.
We are now using Trend Micro Office scan virus software, and I was wondering if you have had any problems with executables locking up or freezing while this virus scannig software is active. We are (Autocartruck) currently upgrading our computers, and we would like to be able to recconect the computer to the network, and have the virus software active.
I am a Labview consultant here at Autocar, and I am trying to upgrade the computers they are using, and be able to run the Labview DVT program while the computer is connected to the network and the Virus software is active. In the past, they have experienced a problem with the program locking up, because of some system level commands being executed while the executable program is running. I have tried running a non executable version of the same program, and got the same results. However, I have not tried running either version with the Trend micro Office scan software. I would like to know if there have been any reported problems, or conflicts before I do

I have seen all kinds of problems occur with virus software...I'd suggest suspending any scans while running ANY program, and do scans when users/programs are inactive. I can't comment on the specific software you are using though.
Use the rating system, otherwise its useless; and please don't forget to tip your waiters!

  • Is virus scanning software worth getting?

I've owned many Macs for many years. In the past (long past, circa OS 9 days), I used virus scanning software such Norton. But for many years now I just haven't bothered. Didn't seem necessary, and I was suspicious that anti-virus software caused more issues than it fixed. Not long ago, my WOW account was compromised, and though it's been fixed, and I've had no more problems since then, they claimed I could have a "key-logger" or some such other trojan/virus/worm that might have stolen my password. I'd appreciate any opinions on whether or not virus scanning software is a good thing, and if it is, what would you suggest for best programs out there. I don't mind paying for the software (i.e., it doesn't have to be free), but I'm more concerned about it being reputable and not mucking up my system, which other than that one incident, seems to be fine. Thanks.

In my opinion, not yet. One day it will be worth it, but that day is not now.
There are no viruses for Leopard. There is malware, there are the usual DNS-changer and other malware but no viruses.
If you are using the firewall, and don't usually run the computer as an administrator and don't use limewire or other bit-torrent stuff and are careful about your email, then you don't have anything to be concerned with.
An occasional online scan using MacScan or some other tool might alleviate any uneasiness you might have, but I don't think that on a well maintained and used Mac anyone will have an issue.
If you have Windows on the same machine, or on your network, you might consider one of the free A/V tools, but don't consider Norton or McAfee at all. They cause more problems then they don't solve.

  • Hp 8600 scan software issue

I installed the recent security update to OSX and also installed a firmware update a couple of weeks ago to the HP 8600 Officejet Pro all-in-ine printer, scanner, fax machine.  Now the scan software does not work.  Any suggestions?

Similar problem.  I reinstall the software and it works for a single job then everything else fails.  The HP diagnostic print form within the HP however.
    Ideas anyone?
Is there a way to contact HP other than for $100?  The web site community is not much help it seems.

  • Virus scan software free

    experiencing difficulty w/ laptop
attempting to back up and update os software.
checked permissions and now feel the computer is running sluggish ?
any free virus scan software recommmended?

Regarding anti-virus software, and how to protect yourself against malware, see my Mac Malware Guide.
However, your problems are undoubtedly not related to any kind of malware. You'll need to provide more details about what's going on for us to suggest anything specific, but you can start with my Mac Performance Guide.
Note that if you're having performance issues, you should under no circumstances add any anti-virus software until the problem is resolved, as having anti-virus software running will probably just make the problems worse.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus - Scan software doesn't have 8.5x11 letter size option

Just bought a new Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.
The included HP Scan software will only let me choose A4 or A5 paper sizes (as well as 6x4, 7x5, 8x6, 10x8).  No 8.5x11 option, which is what I want to use most often.  (this is from the dropdown options after clicking the "Scan..." button)
Is there something I'm missing?  I'm generally pretty good at figuring this stuff out, but I haven't even seen this issue mentioned on forums, so I'm confused.
Also, when using the Scan To Computer function directly from the printer, I get the same result - it will scan my 8.5x11 document and output an A4 size file.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8.  I have installed all software and firmware updates I could find.  I have my printer's region set to Canada, and bought the machine from a Staples in Canada.  Wondering why I can't use any North American size formats?

@Simple1234 - I have reinstalled the software from HP's website, and no change. (it's actually the same version that came on the installation CD - 12.23).
@Sethaniel - I have definitely tried every combination of settings in those drop down lists, so that's not it.
Ruling out OS issues, my girlfriend is running 10.8, and the HP software is doing the same thing on her computer.
Using the System Preferences scanning method, I can choose paper sizes if set to scan from document feeder.  If I change to flatbed, I have the option to manually type in the dimensions I want, but then I'm forced to manually drag the crop area to which 8.5x11 portion of the flatbed it will scan.  Again, there's no way to just have the flatbed scan a letter size document automatically when placing the page at the top corner of the flatbed, where it shows you to place the page for letter size.
This seems like the most basic function of a scanner!  I'm really perplexed by this.  I would imagine most people in north america would just want to place an 8.5x11 sheet of paper on the flatbed and have an easy way to scan the correct size with no added fuss.
Printing works fine, and I can choose letter size, and many adjustable settings, so I think this is just a problem with HP's scanning software.  I have tried all the usual basic steps, like restarting my computer & the printer, reinstalling software, running software update, looking through all the settings in the HP Scan software, any global settings I could change in System Preferences, tried using a different computer and OS X version, googling the issue, and posting on this forum.
    Any other ideas?

  • I bought a new imac running Loin and Office 2011. The server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software.

I bought a new imac running Loin with Office 2011. I am the only mac in the office and the Server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software other than webmail access through our website. It looks as though 2011 is not compatible with 2003 per some searches online, but what are some options I have to gain full access again? I purchased parallels in hopes that this my help and I am able to use remote desktop connection to log on to server but can not drag and drop files I need. There is a shared drive on that Server we all use to exchange files.
The two main issues are gaining access to my email again and ability to drag and drop files from mac to pc. I hope this is enough info to get some solutions.
PS - IT person says my iMac's IP is what his server does not understand so that is why I can not login.

Office 2011 is not compatbile with Exchange 2003.
I suggest you post further Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software:

  • Yesterday I downloaded Lion. It looked really nice. I then noticed several of my programs that worked flawlessly in Snow Leopard STOPPED working. One of them was my SilverFast scanning software.A new version would cost $450.00. I am going back to Snow Le

I downloaded Lion yesterday. What a nightmare.
Before even using it, I noticed several of my programs would not work with Lion.
My Appleworks 6 program was dead as well as some other programs that I had been using for yrs. I have a dual core iMac.
If I wanted to open any of my Applework documents I had to open them one at a time and resave them with pages. This could take weeks.I have 1000s of apple work documents.
This was only the tip of the iceberg.
I needed to do some scanning for a client. Well, low and behold my Silverfast scanning software for my Microtek 9800XL would not work.
I went to the SilverFast web page looking for a download to fix this. No such luck. If I wanted to use my scanner with Lion, I would have to purchase a newer version for $450.00.
Then I went to the Microtek web page, nothing there. I called Microtek and they said they were working on the problem but couldn't tell me it would be available.
I called Apple customer support. The person I spoke with, Scott, was able to help me. The solution. I will get a refund doe Lion and for $16.00 they are going to send me Snow Leopard on a disk. Problem here is I have to reformat my drive. I have a full back up with Time MAchine, but he wasn't sure if I would lose some of my programs when this was done.
Am I dealing with Microsoft? This was a BIG surprise to me that Apple would release an OS without testing all programs.
Given my love of Apple products, I own a lot of Apple stock bought it when it was $45.00,This new OS is a real disaster.
If you are going to use Lion, I would be careful and call Apple first before downloading.
I also asked Scot what would happen if my computer crashed and I had no disk to reinstall. He said some Apple stores are selling Lion on a flash drive.
I believe this is one way for Apple to make ore profits at the cost of the consumer. Apple has more cash on hand then the US government.
I never expected Apple to do something like this. This is something Microsoft would do as they alwasy seem to rush their new OS without fully testing it.

If I wanted to open any of my Applework documents I had to open them one at a time and resave them with pages. This could take weeks.I have 1000s of apple work documents.
You don't have to open and re-save every AppleWorks document you have right now. Just wait till you need one, then do it. The documents aren't going anywhere.
Am I dealing with Microsoft? This was a BIG surprise to me that Apple would release an OS without testing all programs.
Frankly, it is not Apple's responsibility to ensure compatibiltiy with every piece of software available for OS X. That is the responsibility of the software vendor. Lion has been available to developers for several months before it's release, so Microtek had plenty of time to update their software. Yet they did not. How is that Apple's fault? I think Apple was very generous to give you a refund for Lion.
I'm not trying to belittle your frustration but I do think your ire is misplaced.
