Any screen problems or kernel panics on the new 2011 mac air? Help!
I want to buy a macbook air but i now that the old one (2010 late) has some problems - screen flickering, kernel panics and eventually death. I want the new ait but also i want a computer to work fine, not with problems. Thanks guys.
reinstalled the OS from the original CD with the wireless USB adapter attached and got a kernel panic, while booted from the original Mac install CD...
Apple states that no external devices are can be attached to the Macbook when doing an install. I suggest an SMC reset and then reinstall your system exactly according to Apple guidelines. When you get to the point of wanting to attach your wireless USB device - don't. It's entirely possible there are issues with the system and this USB product that have not been documented.

Endless Boot loop on the new 2011 MacBook Air
Has anyone experienced the Endless Boot loop syndrome on the new 2011 MacBook Air?
Mine is the 13" 4/128 model.
Tried the SMC reset but to no avail!
Am I the first one on earth?
Please help, Apple world! It's not a hard core gaming rig, but it plays all the FPS games I like, quite well. It handles hi-def video, just fine. I use it for Photoshop, and it is quite fast. For web browsing, it has no equal. The 2010 maxed out 11" would do it all, except for some hi-def video (1080P), which it would stutter. But my new 2011 maxed 13", is perfect for video (1080P=no problem).
I really don't think a MBP will give you as much, on a daily basis. It (the MBP) has only a few advantages, and except for the built in optical drive (which you can still go external, if need be), none of the advantages you will miss even slightly.
I think the MBP would only serve me, if it spent most of the time deskbound, but I would still need an SSD. Once you have had an SSD, you can't go back. Then, you would have a really pricey MBP. -
Is the new (2011) macbook air better than the mac book pro?
Hi,
I am a university student and Im thinking of going from my macbook pro 13" (2008) to the new macbook air i7 notebook but i'm not sure if I should get the new air, it appeals to me alot because of the fact that its so light and portable but im not sure if it will be enough for the programs I may run on it as I am a multimedia computing student I will be running software such as Photoshop, After Effects, Premier pro as well as flash and I dont know if the air will be as good as my pro has been.
Before I take the leap I wanted to know if it was really worth me getting the new air, I love it because its portable, when i take my pro to uni it weighs a ton and the fact that the air is so light makes me want to get it, but if it wont be able to handle the work I need to do on it theres no point in me getting the air .
I was thinking of getting the top of the range air:
1.8GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
256GB flash storage
the spec for my current pro is:
2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Is it really worth getting the air or would i be better off getting the new pros? Would really appreciate some advice.

Constant kernel panic on my Late-2011 MacBook Pro, help!
Hi all,
Okay, so whenever I'm running heavy tasks on my computer (rendering in Premiere, gaming etc.), after awhile my computer panics . By awhile, it ranges from 2 minutes up to about 2 hours. I'm not entirely sure what's causing it, but looking at the log, it apparently has something to do with "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement".
Please let me know what sections of the panic log I should post, I'm not exactly sure whether or not it gives away personal information or anything, haha. Oh, and I'm running 10.8.4.
Cheers!

Major Problem with kernel panic on new iMac: HELP!
My housemates 24" core 2 duo imac kernel panicked when playing Call of duty 2 (side question: if anyone has any reason why it keeps freezing and the screen getting full of horizontal lines would love to hear from you)
Now I can not start the computer. Whenever I restart, it plays the chime, but then has another kernel panic. Spoke to apple.. i reset the pram.. and then it came back.. ive zero data deleted my hardrive then re-installed osx.. and it is still doing it!! (i ran hardware tests and said everything was working fine..)
The graphics card is nvidia 7600GT
Also.. When starting up the imac, just after the apple logo white screen turns to the desktop, the screen flashes a lime green for a split second.. i know that shouldnt happen!
It wont let me send a report to apple wen i get a window saying "imac shut down unexpectantly".. when the button clicks.. no report comes up.
The operating is a 24" 2.16 Ghz iMac intel 2 core duo, 1GB RAM!
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
Cheers.I had the same problems. New iMac 24" arrived last week (a replacement because the first one had a faulty screen and keyboard). Set it up at the weekend and it seemed fine for 48 hours until I started watching a DVD on Christmas Day. About 2 minutes into the DVD I got a kernel panic, then the computer would not restart. I left it about an hour and tried again. It started successfully, but had another kernel panic when I opened the Dashboard. Again, it failed to restart. I think that something is overheating whenever the computer tries to do any 'work' and then it crashes. I too got panics when trying to boot from the installation disc. Spoke to customer support over the phone and nothing we tried worked, so I've had to send back for another replacement system.

Kernel panics all the time - what is the reason?
during the past few month (must be 3 or 4) I've get kernel panics all the time. there are no specimen programs open. sometimes I've get the kernel right after the start. it is very frustrating because apple couldn't help me so I hope someone know what these panic log means (these are only the three last one):

Darwin Kernel Version 8.2.0: Fri Jun 24 17:46:54 PDT 2005; root:xnu-792.2.4.obj~3/RELEASE_PPCI have had the same issue since I got my Powerbook (1.5GHz). I'll tell you what I have tried, but it looks like Apple is going to just have to either replace the logic board or the whole computer itself.
Since the very beginning I suspected the graphics card. I really don't know how to decipher the panic.log, but I see NVDA and Graphics repeated a lot in the log. Regardless, I tried every troubleshoot out there, but nothing worked. I reset PRAM, did both hardware tests, fixed permissions, I even erased my hard drive and reinstalled both from the install disk, then from a different OS 10.4 disk. I did an archive and install, a journaled erase, and a complete erase of my hard drive. I even reset the Airport card. I called Apple care and they basically wanted me to do the same things I had already done, so I just took it into the Apple store for repairs. The company they contract their work out to (Flextronics International) did not do any extensive diagnostics, they simply replaced a flex cable between the hard drive and the logic board. I got it back and within a week the kernel panics started again. I took it back in and this time they (Flextronics) reset the Airport card, which made absolutley no sense. I know a loose Airport card causes kernel panics, but by this point they should have done much much more than that. I have been struggling with this for over a month and Apple wants to try one more repair before replacing the computer. It has been extremely frustrating dealing with Apple technical support and customer relations. I haved been extremely patient with them, but at this point I just feel like they have wasted too much of my time on this issue that could have been resolved if they contracted their work out to competant companies.
So like I said. Good luck on getting it fixed. You may be having a different problem, but I tried all the troubleshooting that is recomended to consumers and more, yet my Powerbook is still getting kernel panics. At this point I am just trying to get Apple to fix the problem once and for all. And I think that will involve a new logic board or a new computer. -
HELP! Problem with KERNEL PANICS!
Hi everyone!
I have a serious problem with kernel panics - it doesn't seem to be connected with a certain type of program, but seems to be completely random. I have reinstalled my OS X and updated it, but the kernel panics just keep on coming and if possible it actually seemed to make matters worse! Now it doesn't always show the bar at the top of the screen when I turn it on, and sometimes programs like iTunes and Safari, just won't work until I restart the mac. I've also done a harware test - no faults detected. I had an idea that it might be AutoCad causing it, as it started sometime after I installed it - it was also the first program I reinstalled after OS X reinstallation - but I haven't used the AutoCad a whole lot and the panics happen way more often.
I am completely at a loss now as I'm not exactly a computer expert. If anyone can deduce something from my most recent panic log which could help me find out what's causing all this, I would greatly appreciate it!

About 10 kernel panics in the past 3 months - looking for cause
Hello,
I have tried searching extensively in the discussions.apple.com and in Google but cannot answer the question myself. I've had quite a number of kernel panics in the past 3 months on a MacBook Pro 13" purchased new in July 2010.
I'll post two reports below but the cause looks to be the following, which I cannot interpret:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0x226b57): "thread_invoke: preemption_level -1, possible cause: unlocking an unlocked mutex or spinlock"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.9.37/osfmk/kern/sched_prim.c:1471
Can anyone explain that?
Unfortunately I cannot say anything about what was happening at the time of the kernel panic. There appears to be nothing systematic from my end. It doesn't happen all the time but frequently enough now that it is frustrating if a lot of work / apps are open.
I have read the following http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html but it did not help me out. I did perform a hardware test at boot up by holding down D. Hardware test passed twice without problems.
Thanks
TT Mac
Here are the details of two kernel panics:

Big problem. Kernel panics
My PowerBook G4 started freezing today for no apparent reason. I ran fsck -fy, reset PRAM, boot from installer and use disk utility. None of this helped. I decided to restore from TM and I got a Kernel Panic. Tried a clean installation and got a kernel Panic. I believe now after all this trouble shooting it could be hardware. The laptop has two ram chips, took one out , kernel panic, took the other one, kernel panic. I don't know what else I could try before calling Apple, of course does not have warranty, but since is a school computer I will get technical support. I'm trying one more time. This time I'm allowing the DVD to be check before the installation. I don't think the DVD is bad, I've used several times. Not the perfect timing, finals are next week and a new semester in two weeks. Any suggestion, please?
You might try an Apple Authorized Service Provider - you can find one at http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
Or, if the inside of a computer is familiar territory, use the hard drive replacement directions at http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/PowerBook-G4-Al-17-Inch/55 . As mentioned, there are lots of screws, so have cups or the like available to keep them in. Use the right size screwdriver or hex tools too. You can buy any 2.5" parallel ATA (not Serial ATA or SATA) hard drive. Http://www.newegg.com is usually where I buy mine and another source is OWC at http://www.macsales.com . -
What is CIJScannerRegist? I've gotten two Kernel panics in the past 2 hrs
My Mac Pro has been stable for over 2 years now. I've just gotten two kernel panics in the last 2 hours, both related to a process called CIJScannerRegist. Who owns this process and what does it do? I did a ps aux on it and at least found where it is located:
$ ps aux | grep CIJScannerRegist

I still don't know what it does. Any help would be appreciated.

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: CIJScannerRegist
Message was edited by: rimcrazyOk.. I have one question answered but it brings up another. For anyone else that is having this issue, CIJScannerRegist is some daemon that is getting kicked off on boot. At the moment I don't know WHY it is getting started but I have found this. The application is located at: /Library/Image Capture/Support/LegacyDeviceDiscoveryHelpers/CIJScannerRegister . This is an app related to Canon All-In-One printers. I have a Canon Pixima MP800R Scanner/Printer. For some strange reason that escapes me all of the sudden this is causing Kernel Panics. I have a New MBP and an older Mac Pro. Both have SL 10.6.2 installed. Both have the Canon Driver installed. I found that both had an earlier version so I downloaded the latest driver from the Canon website. The one you want is the 45.3Mb file named mp800rosxns10ea7-3.dmg. This has the printer/scanner/network all rolled into one.
What is very curious is on boot my laptop (which does not kernel panic) boots but the process CIJScannerRegist does NOT start. On my desktop however I get the following two additional processes that are running:
$ ps aux | grep Image

phoppes 717 0.0 0.0 2435032 484 s000 R+ 8:50PM 0:00.00 grep Image
You can see process 257 and 254 were started on boot. If I kill both process, I don't get a kernel panic. What I would like to know is what in blue blazes is starting the processes? If I go under System Pref's on BOTH machines, under Login Items there is the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility but only on my Mac Pro am I getting these additional two processes. I did a ps aux | grep Scan and I see the network Scan utility. That is a different process. Something is starting this CIJScannerRegist process. What I would like to do is simply fix that this process is getting started but I'm not sure where in the boot process that this is getting kicked in.
So for anyone else with this issue, the hack fix is do a ps aux | grep Image in a terminal window. Get the process ID of CIJScannerRegist and then do a kill -9 ID# where ID# is the process id you got from the first command. That will stop the kernel panics but still doesn't explain why they are getting started.
I will stop this thread and make a new post on the process as that is really a different question. -
Kernel Panics - Ready to Toss My Mac Pro
I am using a Mac Pro 2.66 with 5GB ram. A couple months ago I had a kernel panic issue when I upgraded to 10.4.9. I took it in to the apple store and they reinstalled OS X and I was up and running. Now it is happening again. Pretty much all I do with the computer is run Logic Pro and related plugins and applications. Well, last night I had another kernel panic. I did a hardware test and it showed a problem with the processor (as it did the first time a couple months ago). I did an archive and install. It got me up and running again, but lost all my user settings and 3rd party software (like plugins). Once it booted up, I upgraded to 10.4.9 (I think my install CD is 10.4.7). Then I was resintalling the plugins when I got another kernel panic.
I switched to mac because I thought it was more stable and trouble free than a PC. But now I am getting fed up. Is there something simple I might be missing? Right now, I can't even boot up with the the kernel panic "you must restart" screen. Any ideas on what I can do??? Thanks. The most important is to find the cause(s) of the kernel panics and fix it. Not sure why, if you ran Apple Hardware Test originally, that all that was done was a fresh install of the OS. Most of the time that is probably "try this first" - reinstall and see.
The first thing I do with a new computer was to run AHT. And with new RAM to run it again, and to run Memtest as well. Memory errors, being we use ECC will show in System Profile -> Memory and in the system.log and if there were kernel panics, in the panic.log.
Computers are just computers, in the end, and this one runs Vista or XP as well - very well.
OS updates should not be a problem, but sometimes it takes time for 3rd party hardware and software to "catch up" with it. And it often stresses the hardware further (and can result in 20% improvement as 10.4.8 did for CS2). 10.4.7 came in three different builds, not really "built for that OS" at all, but was / is the minimum that can boot the Mac Pro.
The trouble with even one kernel panic is that they can cause and lead to a corrupt filesystem, directory, and files. You could have been writing garbage, so a fresh OS install can make sense, and is absolutely essential after the cause has been resolved.
Apple has put more troubleshooting tips online, a "Mac 101 Help" section, and there are lots of people and sites with help and advice on how to deal with a problem like kernel panic. I'd like to see a kernel panic screen put up instructions "PLEASE RUN INSTALL DISK #1 and HOLD DOWN "D" to RUN APPLE HARDWARE TEST" followed by a way to submit the results to AppleCare if there are any errors. -
Kernel Panics with Macbook Pro 2011 on Lion 10.7.1
Ok so I've been getting a lot of kernel panics since I installed Lion, sometimes up to twice a day.
First, I did an Apple hardware check, which didn't show anything. Then I did a clean reinstall of Lion, but I'm still getting the kernel panic.
They are quite random, the only pattern I see is that I will get a kernel panic half the time I start up Parallels. But I also got a kernel panic when I was just browsing the web before I reinstalled Parallels after the clean install.
Here is one of them below. All three that I've had since the clean install mention com.apple.filesystems.smbfs as the last loaded kext. Does anybody know what the problem may be?

You might now create a new temporary user account. Log into the new account. Do the panics still occur?
I would also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. Sometimes they can be difficult to track down. Looking at each new panic log would help determine if it's cause is associated with the same extensions. -
I can not install new update in Photoshop CC, does any one know, how I can install the new update?
Photoshop CC show me, if I look on "Help" -> Update, there is no update. But my actual license is very old....
I tried it, to do it manual. But there is also some problem.totally agree. at this point i could care less if "apple" supports it. i'm not renting my ipod touch, it's mine. i paid for it. and i'm not asking to do anything illegal with it, all i want is to get rid of this POS ios6 and get back to being able to use my ipod touch the way it was before...working.
