Any solution to iMac Lion install yet? Still getting S.M.A.R.T. error.

Warranty is up, so I'm not sure Apple will replace for free... though it seems to be a widespread issue. Thoughts?

Jeffrey is absolutely correct.  If you're not well backed-up (preferably two complete backups on two separate drives), do so immediately.
Then let Apple have a look.  If you're near an Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
Otherwise, an Authorized Apple Repair Station:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434?viewlocale=en_US

Any solution to DVD drive issue post Lion install yet?

Since installing Lion no DVDs are being read by the superdrive, this is a problem that has been highlighted by quite a lot of people.
    CDs are being read fine.
After inserting the DVD there is some noise, sounds like it is trying to pickup the DVD then spits it back out.

I have a Mac and even though Flash (11.something) says it's installed, I still get messages (FB, youtube, pandora) saying I need the latest version (10 something). I have it!

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 4.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    2. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    3. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    4. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    5. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    6. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

  • I have new iMac with Lion installed; can I get a free upgrade for my MacBook Pro?

    Hello
I recently bought a 27" iMac with Lion installed.  Should I be able to download the upgrade for my MacBook Pro without paying.  If so what should I do.  If I go to the App Store I'll end up paying £20.99
    Any help gratefully received
    margaret

    Margaret,
No you will need to purchase the upgrade. However if you own other Macs you want to upgrade once you have purchased Lion then you can upgrade the additional machines. Of course the additional machines must be using the same Apple ID. As long as the additional machine's meet the minimum system requirements listed below you are all set.
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • App is installed yet still downloading...

Yesterday I downloaded and intalled the Motion 5 update (version 5.0.2).  On the app store page for Motion 5 the little tab says that it is installed and when I open the app on my Mac it indicates that it is in fact version 5.0.2, yet under "Updates" in the App store it still shows "Update".  Any ideas on why this would be?

Delete the Motion 5 app then re download. Use AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily.
It's free and easy to use.
    Now re download the app.
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select Motion then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

  • I keep losing my wireless connection after periods of inactivity - any solution? I recently installed a new wireless router with improved range.

I recently installed a Netgear Wireless router for improved reception, but now my macbook loses connection through Airport after periods of inactivity.  We have another older Macbook in the house, and it never loses connection.  I never had this problem with the previous Linksys router, just limited range.  Any ideas what is causing this?  It's frustrating to have to frequently shout down and re-boot.  That so far is the only way I can re-connect.

Adjust the Wireless Settings on your linksys router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab on the Setup page- Here Wireless Network mode should be mixed- Provide any non linksys network name ....
Name (SSID) box- Set wireless channel to 11- And wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on "Save Settings" >>
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your
network key whenever you connect to your wireless network.
Do NOT give this key to anyone.
    Click on Advanced Wireless settings>>
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings" ...
Try to look for the Wireless Network on your laptop and attempt to connect...

  • Got latest version installed, however still getting stuttering when playing.  Really annoying. Any suggestions?

Downloaded the latest iTunes version a couple of days ago.  I noticed it mentioned bug fixes, one of which was experiencing stuttering with imatch, which was happening.  Unfortunately it is still happening and it is really annoying.  Any ideas please?...........thank you

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
At the time of writing iTunes 12.1.1.4 is supposed to address certain playback issues so try that first if you are on an earlier build. Also experiment with the Edit > Preferences > Playback > Play Audio Using control.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Downloaded Adobe Flash Player. 3 times. Yet I am still unable to watch certain videos on YouTube as the same message keeps appearing: "The Adobe Flash Player is required for video playback- Get the latest Adobe Flash Player"
I have installed it already 3 times and yet nothing has changed the same message keeps popping up. I shouldn't have even bothered downloading it.

  • If I upgrade my Snow Leopard to a Lion, would I still get to keep my old files?

Would I lose my old documents, apps, music, etc., when I upgrade? Or should I create a back-up of those before I upgrade?

You should ALWAYS back up your system before you make any significant changes to the system. For the most part, it should not be a problem, but things happen... power outages, bad disk space, glitches, etc. Performa a backup before you begin. If possible, a bootable clone, but a Time Machine backup is good to have as well. You may want to disconnect your time machine backup drive before you upgrade and wait a day or 2 before reconnecting it, just in case (Lion will back up to the Time Machine volume, and depending on space available, may overwrite some backed up files with the new backup, making them impossible to retrieve.)
The only big gotcha tha many people seem to have missed prior to upgrading is that PPC apps will NOT work under Lion. This includes things like Microsoft Office 2004.
I have not experienced any real problems since upgrading my early 2007 iMac. Performance is good with 3GB of RAM. Some adjustments to make and habits to un-learn, but I'm making the transition nicely and am very happy with it.

  • I'm trying an email address i know is mine yet still getting this message:"That Apple ID is already in use.If this Apple ID was created by you, simply sign in with your Apple ID and password. If it does not belong to you, try again using a different name."

I keep getting this message:  "That Apple ID is already in use.If this Apple ID was created by you, simply sign in with your Apple ID and password. If it does not belong to you, try again using a different name."
I'm trying to create a new id and e-mail using an e-mail address that is mine and has been mine for over a year - any ideas why this could be happening?

Trying where? What sort of email address? The following answer is based on a guess as to what you are talking about.
If you already have an @me.com address, perhaps as a result of having had a MobileMe account, and you are now setting up an iCloud account with an Apple ID you will find you will be asked to create a new @me.com address, and that you can't add your existing one because it is already an Apple ID.
You can do one of two things:
    1. Sign out at System Preferences; sign in with your existing @me.com address and enable Mail.
    2. Stay signed in with the present ID and add your @me.com address in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts & Calendars.
If you have further questions, or if your situation is different from what I've assumed, do please post back, but in a suitable forum - this one is specifically about using these Forums.
