Any solutions to Snow Leopard 10.6.1 R2880 total failure on iMac

Everything was fine on Snow Leopard 10.6, but now - on 10.6.1 - I can print nothing to the Epson R2880 from my main desktop machine. When I went to print, the Epson Printer software had been removed and I had a message that new printer drivers should be downloaded from the manufacturer.
Having done this, I had various error messages culminating in the one shown below.
Hours of searching the forums, and telephone help from first Epson then Apple, have not solved the issue. in spite of removing the printer, uninstalling Epson software, drivers and library folders, reinstalling current drivers, making sure Rosetta is loaded et cetera.
Strangely, the printer works OK from my laptop, which is running 10.6.1 and identical Epson drivers.
The problem is caused it seems by rastertoescp in /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/Filter/rastertoescp.app/Contents/MacOS/ra stertoescp
Epson blames Apple, and Apple tech support has tried all it knows or can think of. The case has been escalated, and I should hear back 'within the week'. In the meantime, can anyone help?
The error log file, which has gone to Apple, starts as follows:

Please try the following:
1.Uninstall Gutenprint.
You can download the uninstaller at the following URL:

Click on the file it downloads and uninstall Gutenprint.
2. Power off the printer
3. Remove the printer driver from Print and Fax
4. Delete the Epson Folder from the following location
Mac's Hard Drive\Library\Printers\Epson
5. Delete the following files.
Mac's Hard Drive\User\Library\Preferences\ com.apple.printer ....plist (remove all of the print.plist you find.
6. Restart your Mac
7. Delete the Epson folder in HD/Library/Caches
8. Delete the Epson…R2880.gz from the HD/Library/Printers/PPDs
Hope this helps, Syd

Does Logic on Lion offer any advantages over Snow Leopard? Which is more stable?

Thanks for your replies. I have a new Mac Pro and are about to make a brand new install of Logic. As this is a serious time commitiment, because of all my 3rd party plug-ins, software instruments, sample libraries and loops, I want to choose the right OS from the start so I don't have to re-do it again. I have 10.6.8 on my old machine and that has been working well.
My original plan was to wait for 10.8 and do it then. But now I've read a lot of posts saying people are having trouble on 10.7. For obvious reasons, I would prefer to be on the newest OS, but not at the expense of bugs and glitches. I'm also worried that some of my 3rd party stuff won't work on 10.8. Is there a compatibility list somewhere?
I've been with Logic for almost 20 years now, and my experience has always been that it's usually wise to stay behind at least one OS version, in order to get stability and full compatibility with 3rd party plug-ins and drivers.
Is there any advatage with 10.7 or 10.8 over 10.6 in the way assigning RAM to sample instruments is handled?

upgraded my macbook pro to mountain lion from snow leopard does this mean i can upgrade my imac as well for the same price? And will it mess it up?

You can upgrade the iMac for no extra charge - sign into the App Store there, download and install 10.8.
I recommend that you make a backup (Time Machine is probably the easiest method) before you install, and make sure that you are not using any applications that are incomptible with 10.8 (eg Office 2004) - other than that, it should go smoothly.

  • Just bought Snow leopard 10.6.3 and upgraded my 2008 iMAC; now want to use the free upgrade to Maverick... is that possible? I read compatibility requirement of 10.6.8 or later...

Hi! Just bought Snow leopard 10.6.3 and upgraded my 2008 iMAC; now want to use the free upgrade to Mavericks like I was advised in the Apple/Switch store... is that possible? I read compatibility requirement of 10.6.8 or later...???? Thanks for any guidance!

Before installation you should back up all your data.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes (you will need the latest version in order to synch with mobile devices).
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion

Probably. Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before installing it.

  • Is there any version of any operating system (Snow Leopard through Maverick) that will make my 2010 Macbook 7,1 run some-what efficiently again? Instead of just installing Maverick, should I consider re-installing any of the previous op systems?

My 13-inch, Mid-2010 Macbook has declined in performance with every operating system upgrade. Maverick functioned, unlike Yosemite, which I currently have every intention of deleting. Honestly, the last time my mac could run multiple applications at once without slowing to a crawl and then crashing was on Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion. Although I'm not quite sure at what point my Mac ran smoothest, but remained compatible with the new applications I've downloaded over the years. I know that it's been too long since I enjoyed using my 2010 Macbook. In fact, I thoroughly enjoy using my 2008 Macbook more, despite it's limited compatibility and obsolete features.
I own a Snow Leopard install disk, or could install any of the operating system on my desktop and reinstall using a USB method, or any other means to successfully wipe a disk clean of Yosemite that many of you might know that works similarly (I didn't have Time Machine on). With that being the case, what is my best option for deleting Yosemite, and recovering an older OS X operating system successfully?
The question I have for all of you with knowledge superior to my mediocre Mac mind, is what operating system can I reinstall on this Mac that will give it the best shot to function acceptably? Is any specific version compatible with all/most new software and such, but before Maverick and Yosemite raised my active memory usage through the run, along with constant lagging, and then a kernel panic. Through extensive googling, I've become more confused and frustrated. I could not get a concrete answer due to the questions phrasing, but hopefully someone can assist me here ASAP, please. How can I run Google Chrome and have a Celtx document open again without unavoidable crashing? I won't be greedy and dare ask for an additional, minimally energy draining application run in the background. Again, my 2008 runs beautifully, but is limited in compatibility. My newer 2010 Mac runs like it's struggling for memory (I've used 30 gb out of the 200, using my out-dated Macbook for most of my Mac tasks.
My minor question.... For deleting Yosemite, what method is the most effective and easy considering the options? My major question..... Will reinstalling an operating system on a fresh disk, is any operating system valuable enough to consider installing and avoiding re-updating to Maverick? Or is Maverick my best shot? And a Mac that is significantly newer and more compatible with current hardware and software, and has approx 100 gb less on it's drive than my 2008 Mac, yet the Yosemite Mac can't handle of a fraction of the 2008 Snow Leopard activity. This is my 5th physical Macbook in less than a decade, btw. Along with pads and phones. I refuse to give Apple more money to solve this, so that is not the answer I'm looking for. Thank you.

FIRSTLY, THANK YOU! I appreciate any help you can lend me here. Below is a Etrecheck from today.
Essentially, Google Chrome and ANY other program open will eventually freeze up. I deleted Chrome. Re-downloaded. Completely deleted. Used Safari. Absolutely NO BETTER.
If I'm writing a really long document in a word processor and using a thesaurus or dictionary application in the background.... That will eventually freeze my mac.
So ANY assistance here would be terrific because since Yosemite it's been impossible to tolerate.
    Problem description:
If 2 “major” programs are running at the same time, my Macbook is almost unusable due to lag, crashes, and freezes.

  • Are there any problems with Snow Leopard Server (Xserve) and PPC Clients

    Hi,
are there any problems identified yet with Snow Leopard Server, installed on a Xserve and PPC Clients running Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard?
Currently I have a Xserve Intel running Leopard Server and about 12 Mac Minis PPC running Mac OS X Tiger and Mac OS X Leopard. The Xserve serves services like DNS, OpenDirectory, Software Update Server, NetBoot, etc. All users have Home Directories stored on the Xserve.
Now I want to install Snow Leoaprd Server on the Xserve, but I wonder if there are any problems using the PPC Clients? I have read something like this on a german website.
    Thanks!

We've actually found that the Server 10.6.3 DVD does an amazingly smooth job of upgrading 10.5.8. We've been upgrading our production servers and nothing has gone wrong yet. Snow Leopard employs an archive and install method of upgrading which results in an install which is very close to a clean install. So it's been very convenient for us because our servers are used as Windows PDCs and it's a pain in the *** to have to re-join all PCs to the domain if we start from scratch.

  • Any "burps" with Snow Leopard?

Just touching base with the folks to see if there have been any problems installing and using Snow Leopard. I will be installing it next week.
    Thank you.

On the one side, there are always problems. On the other side, it depends on your hardware and add-ons, as well as 3rd party software - and your system's health.
I can't even keep up with the traffic on Snow Leopard:

This works for me using a Profire 610, Mac Pro and 10.6.1.

  • Found solution to Snow Leopard issues...

Got tired of Snow Leopard slowness/bugginess. Downgraded my Mac Mini to Leopard - whew! Movies work fine again in Front Row, and the system no longer freezes, and no more annoying like **** Quicktime X, which keeps popping up when opening movies, even after changing the application to open them to Quicktime 7...
Snow Leopard does seem a bit faster right after the system was rebooted, but as you use it more - it becomes slower and slower. With Leopard it's not happening.
Seems like "It just works" slowly, but surely, turns into "It just doesn't" with every new iteration of a big cat...

Mine is as fast as it ever was at installation. Not sure why you see a problem.
As a matter of fact, this is the best OS I've ever used.

  • Can´t seem to install any update on Snow Leopard. Why?

    Hello everyone. First post here.
I tried searching the forum but I couldn´t seem to find someone with the exact same problem as me.
Yesterday I bought Snow Leopard and tried installing it on my 13" Macbook Pro. Everything went fine and it´s running ok, except from the fact that I can´t update it. Software update will ask me to install pack 10.6.2 but I click install and it doesn´t run.
I´ve tried downloading the 10.6.1 from apple.com and installing it but the same thing seems to happen. It doesn´t run. I´ve tried everything, including repairing disk permissions... It won´t install.
Does anyone have a clue of what I should do?
    Thank you.

    Hi!
I had the same problem with updating to 10.6.2 from Snow Leopard (brazilian custom language/keyboard). But instead of removing the file, I just changed to english setting, installed the update OK and returned to pt-br setting. Everything fine.
    Best regards!

  • Is it possible to use my snow leopard software for my macbook pro on an iMac or more iMacs?

Here is the reason why i'm asking this question that sounds silly to me in a way...... i got the 2011 15.4inches macbook pro 2 weeks ago ..... it came with the last snow leopard os x but since the lion was out and i was eligible for an upgrade i got it striaght away for free in the apple store and did not use the snow leopard.... now here is the situation.... i was talking to a friend last night and he told me to give him the CD for the OS x snow leopard that he wanted to upgrade his imac to that....but i told him that i did not think that would work because in most cases i know even in windows os these kind of CDs are protected and are made for that pc it is installed on but he kept on insisting it would work and telling me how experienced he is in using a mac for 7 years and what ever cd protection happened to only pc and not mac(the funny thing is that he said he has experience but has never tried it before) so to cut the long story short i told him that i would get back to him....... so here i am again today asking a question that might even prove my thoughts right.....
valuable community.....PLEASE IS IT POSSIBLE TO USE MY MACBOOK PRO OPERATING SYSTEM CD ON A FRIENDS IMAC?  because i dont believe it is possible because if it was, no one will ever upgrade to any os in a mac... they will just look for oppotunities to get it from a friend or family who has one.... hope im not the only one thinking that this question is a silly one lol....... please i really need your answers to show this experienced mac user of 7 years since he told me that i can install my os on more macs.... how possible it that...i dont know...
Thanks in Advance for your replies

    Hi Chris,
I'm guessing it's the "old" gray disc, which is usually hardware specific to your exact model. I'd keep it if I were you, you may want to install it.

  • Snow Leopard seems to have screwed my mid-2007 iMac...

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard my iMac has been experiencing many problems. First I have a slew of fonts that are not working in any Adobe program, the performance(speed) has dropped significantly and now one of my programs is not showing up as running even though it is.
I use Little Snapper (from RealMac Software) and when I open the app up it works, but it does not show up in the apple-tab browser and it doesn't have the dock light under it indicating that it's running. The only way I can get to it is by clicking on the icon on the dock.
Is anyone else experiencing similar problems as these? Should I talk to Apple about this or am I screwed?

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
I checked on Little Snapper (from RealMac Software) here http://www.realmacsoftware.com/littlesnapper/
Toward the bottom of the page it shows a download for 10.5 but not Snow Leopard 10.6.
Anytime you upgrade from one Mac OS X to the next, like Leopard to SL, you need to check first third party vendors first to make sure they have updated their software to meet the v10.6.x requirements.

  • Can't boot from snow leopard bootable hard drive on my new 27 imac

    Hey guys
I have just bought a new 27in Imac with all possible upgrades.
I have an old 2.2 MBP running snow leopard. I used carbon copy clone to make a bootable clone.
It will boot from the hard drive on my MBP ( the one I cloned it from) but it will not boot on my Imac.
I can select it from the boot screen ( holding down alt) but after I select it I just get the apple logo and nothing happens.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I have looked through tones of forums but can't seem to fine the answer.
Will the new mountain lion not boot snow leopard? If it can boot windows I don't see why it wouldn't boot my clone.
    Thanks in advance peeps

I don't think it is fixable. Your new Mac has come installed with Mountain Lion. My understanding, from what I've learned on these boards, is that a Mac cannot boot from an OS earlier than the one that was installed at point of manufacture. I believe it is to do with the firmware that is on later models.
It also means that you cannot install an OS earlier than the one the machine came with (apparently this can be worked around by installing an earlier OS in a Virtual Machine, like some people install Windows on their Macs. This is not something I've done, but a regualr poster on here MichaelLAX, I think, has described how it's possible).
If you're wanting to just erase and start afresh with the MBP surely you can do that with the clone? You don't need the iMac to do that.

  • Mail quit working in Snow Leopard 3 days ago on both of my iMacs. I can't find a solution.

    Greetings:
3 days ago my mac MAIL quit working. I get an (repeated popup) error message indicating that my password is invalid. Is thjere a solution to this issue?
    Thanks!

You should continue to dry it in rice for a week and change the rice daily.
All you can do is dry the iPod. Turning on the iPod before it is dry can can cause permanent damage.
