Any static routing experts here?

Have a setup involving 3 routers and various workstations as follows
Ont Cat5 -> Actiontec wan port.  Actiontec subnet 192.168.1
Actiontec lan port -> Netgear wndr3200 wan port (192.168.1.253).  Netgear seubnet 192.168.0
Actiontec lan port -> Dlink dir655             wan port (192.168.1.254). Dlink subnet 192.168.3
Have user devices on all 3 subnets and the can all talk to the internet fine.  In addition can access the Actiontec admin from any device on the Netgear or Dlink subnets.
Would like to be able to access the Netgear and Dlink subnets from devices on Actiontec subnet.  I know this involes building static routes on all the routers and have done this but still can't access so presume either my static routes are incorrect or more likely there is something I have to in the router firewalls.  I lean more to the router firewalls as I am guessing they are blocking the inbound traffic.
Anybody have any hints as to how this is done?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

You'd generally have a static route pointed to the (WAN) address of the next router in the chain.
Your outside router (Actiontec) would have
static route 192.168.0.0/24 with the nexthop 192.168.1.253.
static route 192.168.3.0/24 with the nexthop 192.168.1.254.
Your Dlink and netgear shouldn't need any static routes needed (since they are, generally speaking, default routing to the wan port). The problem you're running into is that they're also NATing the address.
So when you receive a packet from 192.168.3.2 (connected to the DLINK) on 192.168.1.2 (connected to the ACTIONTEC) the receiving device sees src:192.168.1.254 dst:192.168.1.2 most likely. When you're sending a packet to 192.168.3.2, with a nexthop of 192.168.1.254, that natting part isn't going to work like you expect (it's expecting a packet to 192.168.1.254 with a specific port, which it will then port-forward to 192.168.3.2 on the port you tell it to, whether it's the same port or not, based on port forwarding rules built on the dlink).
Does that help at all? Unless you can turn natting off, you need to be doing port-based stuff with port forwarding, in the setup you're describing, IMO.

  • Any website builder / experts here?

I have exhausted the limited "experience and experts" on the  Adobe Muse Forum so I thought I would see if there is a broader base of general web build knowledge  here.
I have some basic questions about metadata and meta tags and page titles that are generic to all Web "design'. builds
If anyone is keen to engage...stand up and identify your self.
    Question 1:
Site Pages are standard named  :  Home , About, Gallery, Show Reels, Contact  ....and they form the Page Link Menu Bar.  ( Changing these automatically changes the Menu Bar Content)
How does one achieve   ... "mycompanyname - Home" , "mycompanyname - About" , "mycompanyname - Gallery", etc..... when some one bookmarks the page from the website.
No value to me or them if they bookmark a page that only says "Home".

No. I could have, but I just took the three parts of the frame they gave me and filled them all black.
It was your suggestion to eliminate the arrows. I left the two pieces on the sides to help me center the videos, and if I was going to add more videos, I might do this to make it obvious. Note that I added a red stroke of one pixel. You have to look closely.
If I wanted to, I could have simply taken out the border and replaced it with a Photoshop image where the single pixel width lines were to be exactly covered by the 1280X780 embedded video. Now that I think about it, a simple black box with guides that are to be covered exactly by the video makes a lot of sense. Hmmm... I think I will try that before finishing this post.
    OK, I did it.
So, now the image looks like this. In Photoshop, I blew it up to around 400% to that I could place the red lines at exactly 31 pixels in from the edge. So they would be exactly covered. And then all of a sudden I realized that while the HTML said 1280X750, it was actually getting placed in at 1280X754, and I have no idea why that is.
So, back to Photoshop to bring the red markers in from the edge. I have to say this has been frustrating. I first tried using math to place the markers, then I gave up and just moved them around as needed to get it right. But even though the left and right side are even, when I use them as markers in Muse, the lower right protrudes farther than the top right, which makes absolutely no sense at all. However, it looks pretty decent if I just cover the markers. But it might be one or two pixels off from video to video. Quite annoying.
Anyway, check out the site now. It is now just a simple black box with guides to help place the video. Which means, it could be any image. Like theater curtains, or whatever.I thought I could just place it behind the lightbox, but that didn't work out because it kept becoming part of the lightbox.
So I created a new master page and put it there. You might have to mess with it a bit, but here is the PSD file. I exported it to JPG but if you are going to change it, you need the original.
    http://www.stevengotz.com/files/Border-for-Muse.psd
Just to keep things neat, I created a copy of the page. You will find it here: lightbox-test-2
Testing shows the red markers when the videos change, so you will want to create a second master, one without the red markers. It is easy enough to change the master, add new videos, and then change the master back.

  • Any case-fan experts here?

This is it!!!!! I have 3 80x80 Coolmaster (DAF-B81)-(28-32dB)(they have these thermal sensors which control the RPM), two at the back blowing in, one on the left side(next to the VGA card) blowing out, and now recently I got two 90x90 Coolmaster fans (TF9-25IM-7)-(37dB!!!!! )-both on the right side next to the drive, the lower one blowing in and the upper one blowing out.
I still have one free fan-hole( ) on the left side (upper one), and two in the front cover....
Heres some pictures of the case: http://www.chieftec.com/products/Workcolor/NewBX.htm
So I ask you, this is not a good setup is it?, but im new to the overcloking buisness.
I can always buy more fans if you know a better setup...
Im trying to find a Aquarius III water cooling set for the LGA775, but its almost impossible to find one where im living.....
Because the 90x90 fans are so damn loud I really need a fan controller for 4 fans,
So all I wanted to know is Which controller is the best one? and can I use the thermal sensor fans (80x80) with a controler????
    Thanks.....

Ok, I just rotated my fans at the back so they are blowing out, And I bought powerful fans (loud but with a controller pin) at the right side blowing straight at the CPU-fan and the VGA.... And one fan blowing in at the harddrive.....
And I was able to lower CPU temp from 59°C IDLE to 55°C which I think is pretty good for a couple of fans....
But now the Hardrive is at 30°C but was at 23°C but thats ok... as long the temp doesnt go to 55°C...
But what do you think about having a equal amount of air going into the case and going out???? Is that very important???? (ps. no I dont got any filters on my fans....)
And maybe any comments on the type of fans you like the most????
(I know this post does NOT fit into this motherboard forum, but its to late.....)

  • Any clever itunes experts here?

So here are two things I want to be able to do:
    1) Switch from party shuffle to "music" mode mid-song. For instance I'm shuffling it up, and suddenly I'm like "whoa, this song rules, and so does the next one on the album!" So how can I easily switch to the album?
    2) Stop playback after the current song. Say I'm listening to an album, and I'm like "after this song I gotta go pee". So how do I tell iTunes to pause after this song?

I like the "show in playlist" trick, but it doesn't transfer the playback mode to the playlist, it keeps playing the shuffle mode. I have to double-click the song in the playlist, which starts it over, which I'm trying to avoid. I guess what I can do is use your trick to find the next few songs, and then drag those songs into party shuffle.
And yeah, the peeing is a bad example, I can't come up with a better one right now though -- I just wish iTunes was better about letting me make mid-song choices about what to do next, without forcing me to stop the song or start it over.
    Diane Wordsmith wrote:
For the first question...Control click on the song and select Show in Playlist. You should have an option there of Music, which is your library at large. Select that and it will take you to the album.
To the second question....why not just hit the space bar and go pee???

  • Any adobe acrobat expert here? any idea what font fd1067 is and where to download it? urgent!!

i have a file that has a font that says FD1067 when i highlight it and see its properties, i wanna do some editing on the fonts but i cant seem to find or download the font file anywhere as i have no idea what it is.Pls help and feel free to send an email to [email address removed by host]! thank you in advance!

You might be able to highlight the text and see if you can find an equivalent font to use as a substitute in the properties. However, the fonts need to have the same structure for a replacement and that is often a problem. What you may be looking at might simply be an outline font created at the time of the PDF creation. You might have a bit of a clue if you look at the document properties and check for what the PDF was made from.

  • Static Routing vs. Access Point

I need helping in setting up my media center. I have the Dlink 520 in wireless mode. I have the linksys WRT300N. And I'd like to set up a static route to my wired network's resources. This device is hardcoded with 192.168.1.X and I need a static route to the 192.168.0.X network. Is there a way to do so, so that my media server will be seen by the server on that network.  Please help..  I've looked at port forwarding and DMZ and they all have a hardcoded 192.168.1.X.  Should I just set this device up as a access point,  even though I have other wireless devices that benefit from DHCP.   Please advise.
    Thank you
    Mr V.

If you connect the WRT in gateway mode through its internet port to the dlink, you don't have to define any static route on the WRT. The LAN behind the WRT is inaccessible then unless you define port forwardings on the WRT.
If you connect the WRT in router mode through its internet port to the netgear you also don't have to define a static route on the WRT. You must define a static route for the WRT subnet on the dlink. The WRT will just work correctly as it is. You may also have to define a static route on the dlink to forward packets for the WRT subnet to the WRT instead of the netgear.
If you setup the WRT as I have suggested you don't need static routes on the WRT either because the internet port is not used and thus there is no routing on the WRT.
So, whatever you want to do I cannot see any reason in your setup why you think you would have to set a static route on the WRT. You only need routing if the packets have to go one more hop. But the WRT has only two sides and those two sides are your complete LAN. There is nothing else there...
You cannot define a static route for the traffic from inside the WRT LAN to the outside simply because this is implicitly defined with the configuration of the internet and LAN interfaces.
I don't have another suggestion. I think I have listed the major reason why it is beneficial to set up the WRT as access point, mostly because you'll only have a single LAN subnet instead of two. Two subnets complicate many things. One of those things is file sharing across the router which may be related to your problems.
I suggest you try to set it up as I have suggested and we see how it goes...

  • "Invalid Static Route" - WRT320N

    Hello,
I can't add any static routes on my WRT320N (Updated to latest firmware), it immediately gives me the "Invalid Static Route" message.
The route am trying to add has work WRT160N.
    Any ideas
    Thanks
    Khalil

No it's not on the same subnet.
as I said the route I'm trying to add already worked on WRT160N with the same config.
Firmware 1.0.03 build 10 (Release Date: August 13, 2009)  release notes includes the following:
       1. Windows 7 support
       2. FIxed issue with Radius server settings
       3. Fixed Static route where some entry can not be added.
       4. Fixed configuration via Network Magic
       5. FIxed PPTP internet connection type not working correctly with Connect on demand.
       6. Fixed issue with blocking NMH remote access from working
       7. Fixed some HND services that may break connect on Demand option.
       8. Fixed various HND issues.
       9. Fixed some failed case with UPnP.
The strange thing is my router status page lists the firmware as:
    Firmware Version: v1.0.03 build 010 Jul 24, 2009
    notice the difference in dates.
I did upgrade to latest firmware my self, so it shouldn't be an issue may the time between testing the build internally and releasing it publicly.
But as you can see number 3 is about static routes.

  • Nexus 5548 and Define static route to forward traffic to Catalyst 4500

    Dear Experts,
Need your technical assistance for the Static routing in between Nexus 5548 and Catalyst 4500.
Further I connected both Nexus 5548 with Catalyst 4500 as individual trunk ports because there is HSRP on Catalyst 4500. So I just took 1 port from each nexus 5548, make it trunk with the Core Switch (Also make trunk from each Switch each port). Change the speed on Nexus to 1000 because other side on Catalyst 4500 line card is 1G RJ45.
*Here is the Config on Nexus 5548 to make port a Trunk:*
    N5548-A/ N5548-B
    Interface Ethernet1/3
    Switchport mode trunk
    Speed 1000
Added the static route on both nexus for Core HSRP IP: *ip route 0.0.0.0/0 10.10.150.39 (Virtual HSRP IP )*
But I could not able to ping from N5548 Console to core Switch IP of HSRP? Is there any further configuration to enable routing or ping?
    Pleas suggest

    Hello,
Please see attached config for both Nexus 5548. I dont have Catalyst 4500 but below is simple config what I applied:
    Both Catalyst 4500
    interface gig 3/48
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk encap dot1q
On Nexus 5548 Port 1/3 is trunk
    Thanks,

  • Cannot add static routes wrt350n

Router has latest firmware and was just set to default values. I cannot add a static route, says "static route invalid" no matter what address I input (keeping it simple, trying 192.168.1.XXX)
I have never had this problem with any other router and I'm thinking it's broken. Thought I'd ask here to make sure I wasn't missing a setting before I throw this thing out the window.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks, Nick.

Thanks for the help, it is appreciated...
I would like to use a static IP address for my LAN multimedia server, MythTV reccommends a static address for the backend server. I have also always used Static IP addresses for my LAN.
I am a little confused, and my networking is very rusty so please bear with me. Perhaps I have not provided enough information, because I do not fully understand your response. I don't understand how subnetting is relevant.
My network is a simple home network, with one router separating my LAN from the cloud. I have one LAN, no subnetting, 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0.
Every home router I have used before I have set up the LAN portion like this... And it has always worked in the past...
    gateway: 192.168.1.1/24.
static routes 192.168.1.(2-5)/24 for my stationary hosts.
dhcp range 192.168.1.(10-15)/24 for laptops and guests.
    In response:
    1) Yes it is LAN traffic, but the hosts still need addresses, right? Not sure what you're getting at here.
    2) Not sure what you mean... example host 192.168.1.20/24, and the router 192.168.1.1/24are both within the 192.168.1.0/24 network, right? So requests from the cloud are broadcast to all in my LAN, right? How is this relevant?
    3) I thought the gateway (on my only router) has to be part of the LAN addressing. By Linksys/Cisco default, the router LAN side gateway is 192.168.1.1/24 and it sends out dhcp addresses to 192.168.1.(100-149)/24.
Am I severly confused or are we just on the wrong page?

  • Static routes

Hi all, if I had 4 ip subnets with 4 dsl routes on those subnets, and a router in the middle of them all which has interfaces in each subnet, If I point a route say 10/8 to each dsl router, will it load balance by the same ip source address it came from ?

    1. A router always has at least two IP addresses. Otherwise it cannot route traffic. Your E2000 has LAN IP address 10.10.100.1/255.255.255.0 and has a 192.168.0.*/255.255.255.0 address from your main router on the WAN port. Each IP address results in an automatic route entry for the corresponding network, thus you see the 10.10.100.0/255.255.255.0 route for the LAN side and the 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 route for the WAN side. The default gateway is the IP address of your main router, i.e. all other IP addresses are sent to the default gateway IP address on the WAN side.
    2. I don't understand why you want to add a static route here. Your E2000 has all the routes it needs.
    3. 192.168.0.1 is an IP address not a network. A network always consists of a network (IP) address and a subnet mask. 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 is a network.
    4. A static route for 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 with gateway 10.10.100.1 doesn't make any sense on your E2000. 10.10.100.1 is the LAN IP address of the E2000. That means you tell the E2000 to route packets for the network 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 to itself. The gateway IP address must always be the IP address of the next hop on the way to the destination. It can never be itself.
(Sidenote: Technically, some operating systems show the own IP address as gateway when the network is directly connected, i.e. the packet is not routed but delivered directly to the recipient. In that case you would see the own IP address instead of 0.0.0.0 in the gateway column. But that's another representation in the routing table to tell the system that this network is delivered by other means than IP routing, i.e. usually delivered directly through the ethernet LAN network).

  • Persistent static routes on OS Yosemite

    Hi there ,
I have 2 Macs ( MacBook Pro 15 inch, Retina - Yosemite OS ) in a big network
These MACs have installed Outlook. Our Exchange Server is completely in another network as the MACs .
Now I have added a route yesterday.
    sudo route add -n xx.xx.xx.xx / 16 gw xx.xx.xx.xx
After a restart , these routes are unfortunately gone and the Outlook can not connect to the server again .
I have found that the MAC can not save static routes via terminal. Just as in Windows via route add -p
Unfortunately, I am not a professional in this area , but  then i tried it this way:
    sudo vi /etc/rc.local
route add -net 192.168.192.6 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 10.1.106.209
then with esc out and then with : w! stored
After a restart , these routes are unfortunately gone (according to the route table )
    Have you any tips?
P.S sorry for my bad english

For example, here's a launch daemon plist file = "com.your_username.routes.plist"
which is placed in /Library/LaunchDaemons so that launchd runs it once at boot.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
            <key>Label</key>
            <string>com.your_username.routes</string>
            <key>ProgramArguments</key>
            <array>
                    <string>/Users/your_username/Documents/add_routes</string>
            </array>
            <key>RunAtLoad</key>
            <true/>
    </dict>
    </plist>
You can place the shell script file in your Documents folder with name = "add_routes".
This shell script contains the commands to actually add the routes.
Each time your machine is booted, launchd will execute the plist file.

  • RV042 Static Routing Question

I am currently using RV042 in the two-WAN backup mode. However, I tried the redundant option and am finding it to give me more bandwidth and better performance than only one of the WANs.
My problem is that in the redundant mode, I am unable to use a few websites that I use on a regular basis. One of the sites is our internet hosted time sheet service and their site just goes crazy when I try to access it through the router set up in redundant mode. I am not even able to login to their site, and it is important for my daily work.
My question is - can I set up static routes for certain sites so that the router knows to access them through only one of my WANs? For example, if my timesheet software site is 123.123.123.123, and my prefered WAN gateway is 68.68.68.68, can I tell the router to only access this site through the given gateway, even if the router is configured to use either WAN?
I have tried static routes and it does not seem to work at all.
    For example:
    Site: 123.123.123.123
    SM: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway 68.68.68.68
When I save this and run the tracert to 123.123.123.123, it goes through the other gateway, and not the one I specified here.
    Any hints are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alex P.

If your using this in load balance mode, go to system management and scroll down to protocol binding.  Chances are your going to a secure site with both wans working and the site sees one connection with two ip addresses coming at it and breaks the connection.  You can do a protocol bind for all your https traffic to go out one wan for all the ip addresses in your network and this should fix the issue.  You can do this for mail and other protocols that would get messed up by the dual wan.  Hope this helps.
