Any Success with Cintiq + Two Monitor Config in CS5 or CS4

Hi,
I'm currently running two Eizo CG210 monitors and want to add a Contiq 21ux to the setup. I'm going to either try to match the video card already in the pc or buy two new video cards of the same type. A video card that supports three monitors sounds possible, but maybe more expensive than it needs to be.
Has anyone had success with this setup or something like it?

I have no experience with more than two video monitors, though I understand most of the modern ATI cards can support 3 with the right connective hardware.
I'd very much be interested in your (and others') experience in getting a three monitor configuration to work solidly.
A friend of mine put a 4 monitor system together using two nVidia cards. When asked why he answered, "Because I don't have room for six." I'd pass along info about his setup, but unfortunately he's still having stability problems with the system.

I was wondering if anyone has had any success with getting a refund for their over-14-day-old hi-res powerbooks by calling Apple Customer Relations? Between the audio looping, lines on display, loud hard drive, and warped case, I'm fed up.

IMac Intel with Parallels, Two Monitors and Screen Spanning

Hi,
Longtime Mac user forced into using Windows XP for my business. I have an iMac G5 2.1 (iSight) PowerPC. I need two monitors with screen spanning so I'm thinking of getting an iMac Intel, running Bootcamp or Parallels with XP Pro, and using a screen-spanning program.
1. Can I run Windows XP on the Intel Mac and use screen spanning with a PowerPC iMac?
2. Is it better to load the screen-spanning software on the XP or Mac system?

if nobody answers your questions it could also be that nobody has tried it yet.
I haven't tried this setup yet, so forgive me for fishing in muddy water.
Windows XP is capable of using two (or depending on the graphics card even more) monitors for duplicating or spanning.
My own two Intel Macs are showing me this opportunity in the preferences.
Since I never had the need to do so I have never attached a second monitor.
The Intel iMacs and MacPros are capable of attacing second monitors however with the iMacs you a adapter which you can get from Apple.
I would suggest (if possible) to go the nearest Apple Store and try to convince the guys there to do such a setup for you to verify that it works.

Convert EBS RDF to XMLP - anyone had any success with the converter

I have converted the ARXCAR rdf to XML Publisher which was surprising simple. However getting it to work seems to be a different matter. The PL/SQL contained multiple bugs which were easily fixed. The dataTemplate contains lexicals for KFF's which don't work and I have already posted a message here and raised a TAR. Working round the lexical issue I ran into a NULL POINTER EXCEPTION dead end.
The base report for this conversion is not overly complex in the EBS scheme of things and I am just wondering if anyone has had any success in converting EBS reports with this utility?

Has anyone had any success with an external antenna on a UMW190?

Although I am getting good service from my UMW190 without an external antenna, I am in a low signal area and would like to have rock solid coverage.
I have tried a 1900Mhz yagi, a blade antenna, an omni, and a grid antenna. I am not seeing any difference in signal strength at all regardless of whether or not an antenna is connected and which way it is pointed. I have also tried two different pigtails form two different sources, and even borrowed a second UMW190 and tried it, all with no success. I know exactly where the tower serving my house is located, but I did try each of the directional antennas in a full 360 degree circle, stopping every few degrees to see if the RSSI improved. I tried both polarities too, although I understand it should be vertical.
When I contacted Verizon customer support they had very little information about it. I contacted Pantech, and they told me that support for this device is now handled by UTstarcom. UTStarcom told me that support for this device is now handled by Personal Communication Devices. When I contacted them the response was (and I quote) "We don't have any information on any external antenna support of our devices".
So I throw myself on the mercy of the Gurus here in the forum.
Am I missing something obvious? Is there a command that "activates" the external antenna connector? Does the connector even have anything connected to it inside the modem?
Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated!

Usually the external antenna works best where service is obstructed by certain materials and the external antenna is placed in a different area . If the signal is steady for the external antenna and the UMW190 in the area where you are using the devices, that would be the general signal strength of that area.

Does anyone have any experiance with proactive log monitoring software?

I do not have much experience in this area but want to have something that monitors logs so I can be more proactive. In my company (like most) i wear many hats and do not get the opportunity to review system logs unless there is an issue.
I am looking for a tight budget solution.

The problem with watching logs is that you kind of need to know what you're looking for before you can implement any kind of worthwhile automated/proactive log analysis. You might find your server logs thousands of benign log messages a day but that doesn't mean you need to action (or even be aware) of any of them.
Even if there are messages you care about, you might only care once a threshold has been reached, and learning the thresholds (both count and duration) is a learning element in itself.
The ultimate tool for this is probably Splunk, and the price is right (free for limited use up to 50MB of log messages per day), but don't expect to install it and be done - it will take time to teach Splunk about which log files to read, what events in those logs to worry about, what thresholds to cross and what actions to take.

Devour owners...what's the latest news? Any success with customer service?

Well, all of us know these phones don't work properly. I was just wondering if anyone has had success swapping these for a functional phone...or if everyone is still being told that the problems are rare, even though most of us are on at least our second, if not third or fourth.
I was also wondering if there was maybe (fingers crossed) any kind of recall for these, since I pay $200 per month for a paperweight.
My fellow devour users....Please share your latest experiences.

The only recall I can think of is the KIN One/KIN Two phones, which got retooled as feature phones six months later in an attempt to salvage otherwise useless hardware.
I highly doubt that the Devour will be recalled, it sucks but I doubt it "malfunctions" enough to qualify for the large expenses of a recall, versus the relatively small expense of sending out warranty replacements for those vocal minority until they either replace the phone themselves (use an upgrade, buy full retail, buy third-party such as ebay) or leave VzW.
Gotta love business decisions that don't care about the customers -_-

It's been a couple of days since I made a new apple id. And since then I have added iTunes credit to my acc. But unable to use it as the following error appears: "your purchase could not be completed, contact itunes store support to complete this transaction"
Anyone have any luck. I've emailed the relevant support team several times and still no luck, they haven't found or provided me with a solution.

AppleCare off of eBay? Anyone have any success with this?

I am looking into purchasing AppleCare for my 4 month old Macbook Pro. I am a student so I can get it for $249, but I have seen on eBay where it will sometimes go for less than that. Has anyone purchased AppleCare off of eBay before? If so, how was your experience with it?

To follow up on Traildawg, you can get a feel for the merchants on e-Bay, mostly from the feedback. You can get some good deals if you are careful and read the ads. You can get an intuative feeling on what is more risky and what is not. About the Applecare I ordered, I felt that if I registered it immediately, as I did, and if Apple accepted the registration, which they did, then later on, down the pike, if they (Apple) tried to back out on it, I would have a good argument in small claims court, I could assert that they are estopped from not honoring the deal.
I, too, would never buy a computer from them, you know it's abused. I once, for the **** of it, bought a Tangerine Clamshell knowing I was taking a chance, and sure 'nuf. I don't really know if the computer was bad or whether it was that I changed memory, hard drive, and my 10 thumbs just failed me.

Anyone had any success with rapid install of NW14 on SQL2005?

I installed NW14 on a clean machine. However, I still cannot get SAP to communicate with SQL 2005 correctly. I would appreciate it if someone could help me.
Here is what I did:
1. Created a new virtual machine with enough RAM and hard disk.
2. Installed Windows 2003 (with the latest service pack)
3. Installed SQL 2005 (with the latest service pack). Picked the right collation order required for SAP.
4. Installed JDK 1.4.2.17
5. Went through SAP rapid install for Windows and SQL Server.
The installation went through fine. I did not have even one error. After the install, I could see that instance 0 and instance 1 are both running. Green indicator under MMC.
I could also logon to the portal from the local machine.
The problem is that I could not connect using SAP GUI. The error I get is port sapdp00 is not found.
Services file does contain this entry.
When I run netstat, I can see that sapdp01 is available. However, sapdp00 is not present at all.
On someone's suggestion, I ran r3trans -d. The error I got was that dbms/type is not defined.
I set the environmental variable DBMS_TYPE to mss and ran r3trans once again. This time, the error I get is that it is not able to load dbmsslib.dll.
I shouldn't be running into such problems. I am wondering if I missed some major step after the rapid install. Is there a post-install configuration I need to run?

Did you try a Reset while it is connected to the wall charger? Hold down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the OFF slider if it appears, wait for the Apple logo. Should take about 10 seconds, leave it on the charger for about 30 minutes before trying this.
If that doesn't work get it serviced/replaced.

Any success with DVD playback?

Has anyone gotten a java application or applet to playback a dvd? I mean a commercial dvd, not a data dvd with video burned on it. If so, how did you do it? What libraries? libdvdread/libdvdcss/libdvdplay?

Did you find out anything usefull in the last 2 months? I'll be looking to develop DVD playback (on Linux) for a product towards the end of the summer - for what it's worth, I'll be looking at using SWIG to wrap libdvdread as the first step.

Hi all, did anybody succeed in building a JSF-based application which uses HTML frames ? If yes, could be an example (jsp pages) posted here ?
I read that JSF navigation should not work with frames. If true, what about alternatives ? Facelets ?

Any success with iTunes 8.2 resolving the CD burning issues 8.1 has had?

Just wondering whether I should attempt to install the 8.2 version if it still isn't allowing CD burning capabilities. I upgraded to 8.1 a couple of weeks ago and now I'm wondering if I should downgrade back to 8.0 until this major issue has been resolved. If I've read the various posts here correctly, the CD burning problems started with version 8.1 and not 8.0? I haven't attempted to burn with either version yet, so I'm trying to avoid the problems most other iTunes users have been having with it.

I have had the problems described here and after an exhaustive search, I did the following and it fixed the problem.
The issue is related to GEAR. Go to:

and download the driver. I did this and *no longer* get the error about not being able to burn a disc or disk drives not found. I have Vista and this is with iTunes 8.2. Hope this works for you as well!
