Presently you can password protect the whole i pad by having to put in a 4 digit code to open it, but once it's open whoever is using it has access to everything you have on it.

It's a tray loading drive, there should be a little hole next to it, just large enough for a paper clip. Stick the end of the paper clip in it and the tray should open.

There seems to be a problem, just now, with the USB 3 ports on the new MBP's supporting eternal USB 3 drives. Some people have no luck at all - can't even recognize the drive - and some are reporting USB 2 speeds (those who drives are recognized). I'd call a dealer such as LaCie or OWC to see if they have USB 3 drives that actually work with MBP's with USB 3 ports. You may have to wait for a software/firmware update.

Hi All,
I had this problem today myself, and was frustrated repeatedly by the '4002' error.
I have literally just fixed the issue by doing the following steps:
1: Go to the 'Store' tab and select 'Turn Off iTunes Match'
2: Return to the 'Store' tab and select 'Update Genius'
3: Wait for this to complete succesfully, the return to the 'Store' tab once more and select 'Turn On iTunes Match'.
4: iTunes Match will now go through the motions and should succeed!

Was just looking for the answer to this exact question and I just found something that worked for me so don't know if it might be of use to you or you might have already solved your problem! Basically when I was in iMovie and I clicked to import movies from the computer into iMovie and I found the clip I wanted to import, there are a few options. I think it asked which Event I wanted to add it to but most importantly it asked me what file size I wanted...I had originally been clicking Large because it advised me to because it reduces the file size...but just on a chance there I selected 'Full - Original' for size and it imported perfectly into iMovie in it's original vertical form!

Then you are best to get a Macbook Pro. Your real aim should be the graphics card.
You won't be doing really good gaming on a discrete graphics card sharing RAM.
Depending of coarse what games you play.
eg. card games / COD games.

The MTS files will always be grayed out. Do not drill down into the folder structure. Select the top level of the AVCHD folder structure. If this is a hard drive it may take a very long time to load. People have reported 20 minutes to half an hour.
Other possible problems, conflicts with other software like Perian. Also if there is mixed media on the drive; media in different formats can make the directory unreadable. What are the exact specifications of your media? What settings are you using in FCE?

i updated the phone through itunes but got the message above. I am trying to recover my contact information, which is most important to me (all business contacts are on this phone). The phone will not turn on. I have tried resetting the phone with the home/power button, the phone is fully charged as well. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

The 3194 update/restore error usually means the computer can't connect to gs.apple.com.
See this Apple doc -> iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting

Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
If you just want to get the contacts back, and they are on the computer, you can just sync them from iTunes again.

Charged for a phone that I returned

I normally don't post online but this problem has me so irate that I filed a complaint to BBB and now I'm posting here. I'm sure someone has experienced this problem before and can offer some suggestion I haven't thought of. Here it goes...
I took the leap and upgraded to an iPhone 4S from a basic phone back in February because there was an online promotion (FREE phone). Well, I tried it for a few days and decided to exchange it for an Android phone. I called within the 14 day trial period and was told to go online to print out the shipping label to return the phone. I followed the instructions to return the phone and kept a copy of the tracking number from USPS. I even checked to make sure that the package was delivered, which it was on 02/25/14. Okay, everything was good so far, until I got a bill last month charging me $449.99 for the device I returned. What?! I immediately contacted VZW customer service and talked to someone who told me this would be resolved in 24 hrs. She took down the tracking number and said she'd follow up by the end of the day. She sent me a text saying she was still waiting to hear back about the ticket. Then nothing. I didn't get any more texts. So I optimistically thought it would be resolved by the time my bill was due. WRONG! I got an email from Verizon thanking me for paying in full. Now, I've been on the phone for hours, talking to different reps, repeating my story and finally, someone called me back with the bad news. The warehouse couldn't confirm I returned the device, therefore, he couldn't manually credit back the charge for the phone. I don't understand why I'm being held responsible for a phone that the warehouse couldn't keep track of. I even have a document from Verizon showing a refund of the upgrade fee and taxes I paid on the phone. IF THIS DOESN'T PROVE THAT I RETURNED THE PHONE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT DOES.
A quick search on this forum shows that this is not an isolated incident. There's a problem with the Fort Worth, TX facility. Verizon management should take steps to investigate this facility and find out why so many customers have the same issue with their returns! I cannot believe they allow this to continue and make customers pay for missing phones.
I'm ready to leave VZW once I'm refunded the charge on the iPhone 4S.

The basic premise here is when using Verizon's return to vendor program they have to do all the claims and inquiries and not you.
Unfortunately you will need to go to small claims court to get relief.
Send a certified letter return receipt requested to Verizon and dispute the charge. Enclose a copy of your USPS tracking and the dollar amount in dispute.
Then go to the court and file for that same amount as well as the cost of the certified letter and the court filing fee. Many times the court has the address for the court summons to be sent to. If there is a corporate store near you I would just serve them the summons.
Another thing I would do is call your bank and have that amount returned to you. A form you fill out can have a copy of the tracking results show it was returned. If done via credit card I would have the amount charged back.
http://www.BBB.org is another place to file a online complaint.
Verizon will call you back to settle. In any case if Verizon wants you to arbitrate don't do it. Small claims involves no lawyers and is very easy and relaxed court. You show your proof, you go home a winner.
In my state if they don't pay you can place a lien on their business license at the Department of State Corporations Bureau. They don't like acts like that so they will settle quickly.
Additionally once the package return was signed for as received you are not responsible for them losing the package.
If using auto pay I would stop it so you don't get zinged in the future.

     I'm getting a lot of pop up ads. mostly while using Facebook. I'm running Safari on a Macbook Pro running Yosemite. Does anyone have any suggestions for an Ad blocker. I don't see anything in the App store.
      I can't swear to it but I don't recall this being a problem pre-Yosemite. I could be wrong. I haven't been real active on Facebook until recently. I see some third party apps out there but am alway wary of non approved software.

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:

Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
