Any suggestions of a more reliable program than Premiere CS6? Too many issues that I spend more time trying to resolve than using the program creatively?

CS6 is completely solid and error free for me... what is your problem?

How much of a hurry are you in, and are you considering upgrading to Lion?
File Vault on Snow Leopard only encrypts home folders you select, and doesn't work well with Time Machine.
But Lion will have "full disk encryption" of local or external disks.  See File Vault 2 here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/whats-new/features.html

The use of terminology like "handcuffs," "theft-rates," "bondage," "greed" strikes me as hostile. Courtesy Webster online: "a: of or relating to an enemy; b:  marked by malevolence: having or showing unfriendly feelings; c: openly opposed or resisting."
I'm a bit stumped by the link you provide. I have not posted to that thread, and the quote you cite is instead from this very thread. Post 12, to be precise. Proceeding on the assumption that the link was simply a mistake on your part but the quote was what you intended to paste, I'd say "the easy way out" would have been to do nothing: let users continue to struggle with the problems caused by the disparity in effects and transitions across platforms. Instead, we opted to address the issue--in the manner we deemed best for the majority of our customers given the realities of deadlines, finite resources, and competing priorities. As it happens, I was directly involved in these decisions. In light of the small number of complaints I've seen in the 7 months since the release of CC2014, I'm comfortable with the choices we made.
But more to the point in light of the point you were attempting to make, I'm utterly baffled at how you think my statement substantiates your hyperbolic assertion that the CC releases of Premiere Pro are untested.
And now back to Oferez307's previously scheduled thread...

  • I have deleted so many pictures, and I only have about 6 apps but i still don't have storage. Whenever i try to take picture it won't let me because there is no room. I just bought more iCloud storage but it didn't help. Any suggestions?

I need advice on getting more storage for my iPhone 6. I have just bought more iCloud storage, but it didn't help. I only have about 100 picture and 6 apps. I also recently purchased music and it won't let me download it to my phone because there is no storage. Any suggestions on getting more storage for my iPhone?

iCloud storage has nothing to do with the memory available on your iPhone.
    Have you tried a reset?
    Also, see this article:

Since downloading iOS on my new iPad, I cannot downlaod more than one pdf from mail into iBooks.  I have to shut down my iPad and restart it to save a second pdf. Wasn't a problem with the old operating system.  Any suggestions?

It seems that I have solved my issue by performing a full factory reset (erasing all content, something which I had hoped to avoid) restoring from an iCloud backup did not alleviate the issue, I had to set up as a new iPad.
Hopefully anyone else else who has this issue in the future will be able to find this.

The only available, signed, iOS, for your iPod, is iOS 7.1. That's why you can't install iOS 6.1.6.

  • It doesn't seem to be as sharp as it is in the "Develop" mode.  This seems to occur more with wide angle than macro.  Any suggestions would be extremely welcome...Norm

Here's my problem: (Lightroom 4)  I will edit a photo in "Develop" to the point where it looks great and I'm satisfied with the results.  Then I click back to "Library" and the photo seems to go a little out of focus.  When I export the photo, it doesn't seem to be as sharp as it is in "Develop" mode.  This seems to occur more with wide angle than macro.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  Norm

    Okay guys, some good news!
First of all, thanks again to Sean for his suggestion to look inside the transaction log!
Indeed that specific table that I noticed was filling the transaction log, is the largest table in my database. Its size stands at about ~65GB. Like I said earlier, it has no LOB or Overflow columns. But one interesting fact about it is - it had absolutely
no indexes! It was a heap, but it was also partitioned. I didn't know a case like this could cause such problems with shrink? It's weird but it also kinda makes sense in a way.
Anyways, I ran a script to create a partitioned clustered index on that table. That took pretty much all day long due to the table size (almost 7 hours). But once that was finished, shrinking the data file was a breeze!
At least... Until the shrink started "hanging" again because now it started dealing with my
second largest table (~55GB). Like the first one, this one is also a partitioned
heap without any indexes. So I expected this to happen. I guess the solution this time will be the same: Create a clustered index.
Does this make sense to you? A partitioned heap table causing such heavy workload to SHRINK, but when it's moved to a clustered index, suddenly it flies?

  • Have windows 7, newest update for itunes, why does it take more than one attempt to listen to a preview of song, sometimes it neve lets me listen to the whole preview, any suggestions? please help.

    any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Okay.
    Warning in advance: experimental advice.
The way that some of these have been responding to cache resets, but some haven't, has been making me wonder if we've got some form of trouble in the cache.db file. If the trouble is minor, a cache reset can fix it. But if the trouble is of the right/wrong sort, it might also prevent a cache reset from going through properly. (Similar things can happen with Safari for Windows preferences/settings/database files.) If that's what is afoot with you, then we might be able to get past this by manually removing the cache.db.
    Quit iTunes before proceeding.
To get at the cache.db, first we'd need to change some view settings on the PC.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now, in Computer, open your C:\, drive.
    Open the "Users" folder.
Open the folder with the name of your Windows user account.
    Open the "AppData" folder.
    Open the "Local" folder.
    Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
    Open the "iTunes" folder.
Drag the Cache.db file out of the folder and onto your desktop.
Launch iTunes and visit the Store again. Can you get full previews now?

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Archiving iMovie (DV files) to data DVD-R? Any suggested program?

I have over 200 Digital8 tapes dating back to 1999 that I know will eventually go bad. I am in the process of importing all of them in to iMovie project files, and I'd like to back up the data to DVD-Rs (so I have the pure DV video; NOT exporting them to MPEG-2 DVD video).
It should take three DVD-Rs (4.7GB) to hold 13GB of DV data (about an hour project) but Apple's BACKUP wants 4 DVDs, so maybe it's not using the discs as well as it could be.
Does anyone know of a program designed for this purpose? Itwould be nice to have some kind of solution to archive these files (three DVD-Rs at less than .50 each is still cheaper than a $5 DV tape). It would be very cool to have a way to keep small scaled down preview vids online and then reference the backup when I want to use them.
For what it's worth, I just added ANOTHER 2 terrabyte drive (four 500GB drives) to my existing 2.6 terrabytes. I don't trust hard drives since I've had three Western Digitals goes bad on me (so now I am using Seagates, Maxtors and Hitachis, with each drive cloned to another in case of failure). I just want to get my data backed up.
    Any suggestions?

I had too many DVDs going bad after short time - I
don't trust them at all for long time storage.
I'd trust optical media over tape any day of the week. Once a tape gets eaten in a camcorder... And it's far easier and quicker to make a .50 backup of a DVD-R (or set of 3 or 4 of them) than dub off another hour-long Digital8/DV tape at much higher cost.
What I do is, that I double the number of hard
drives. I archive my Videos on one and make a copy to
That's what I've been doing ever since I had my first drive die on me a few years ago. So, I currently have 5.6 terrabytes, but that's not enough to have all my video handy. What i'm trying to do is get my video in a safe place that can't be destroyed by a magnet or eaten by an ancient player, and then have it in a way I can easily make backups. I can send a box of DVD-Rs to someone for safekeeping, but I don't plan on cloning 200 tapes (at a cost of a few bucks each) to send to someone. It's alot of stuff.
disconnect it). I figured that chances of both drives
going bad at the same time is slim.
True. I'll not talk about the 10 days I just spent recovering files when a redundant disk system I had of photos got screwed up and both drives were scrambled (Lesson learned; no more RAID arrays, just remember to sync the drives often.)
external RAID and use it in a configuration that can
recover from single disk failures. This is probably
That's what I am working towards but, as I alluded to, a file system can get screwed up and really hose you. I lost all my podcast master files and all kinds of stuff when a file system error on the RAID I was using took out all copies D'oh.
have to double the number of disks. Advantage of
harddrive is also that you have easy access to all
    the movies.
Yes, if you just have a few movies. I'm hoping the 4 500GB drives I have will be enough for this project.

  • Is DVD Studio Pro More Reliable Than iDVD?

Is DVD Studio Pro more reliable than iDVD?
Because my needs are simple, I thought I'd just use iDVD to burn DVDs. I created a movie in Final Cut Express, exported it as a Quicktime movie with chapter markers, and created an iDVD project around it. The iDVD project recognizes the chapter markers and it all plays just fine from within iDVD, but I haven't been able to successfully burn a DVD of the project.
The video is a little over an hour long. When I start the burn process a box tells me that it will take something like 3 hours and 45 minutes, and the clock starts ticking down. Fine. Then somewhere around two hours later, iDVD quits and I get a message saying only that iDVD "quit unexpectedly." (As if I didn't know that.) The same thing happens when I try to save as a disc image instead of burning directly to a DVD. I've got plenty of hard disk space, have repaired permissions, etc.
This leaves me wondering whether DVD Studio Pro might be a more robust program. This is a very simple project -- one video, 13 chapters -- so it's very disappointing that iDVD can't seem to deal with it.
So -- is there any general consensus about how DVD Studio Pro compares to iDVD in terms of stability and reliability?

I do not think there is a clear answer on that one. I use both and find iDVD has less issues than DVD SP (not that DVD SP has a ton of issues, but enough that eventually you will probably run into something that will throw things off and will need to know the workaround.)
If you look at the boards you will see people that have problems with both applications. Not that either one is bad, but since boards are designed to help with issues, it is rare that you get someone saying "Wow this has been rock solid for a year" so it is always a grain of salt.
DVD SP does give you more control over things, but by the same token it may not be the application you need. In other words since it is now part of the Final Cut Studio you would need to take a look at the Studio and see if it is something you want. The iApps overall, IMHO, do quite alot for many things and I use them often depending on what I am trying to do. Your project should work it sounds like and there may be something going on (well yes there is of course) You may want to take a quick look at these threads where people have quit issues with iDVD and see if any of the details in th workflow, computer etc are similar and if there are solutions.

  • Is the current MacBook more reliable running Windows than a MacBook Pro?

I have a newish Santa Rosa/Penryn based MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, I have to run some apps under Windows and am running XP most of the time. However, the MacBook Pro has proven to be a poor choice for this. I get a Windows Blue Screens of Death on a frequent basis (more frequent than I ever seen on any non-Apple notebook). Burning DVDs take almost 30 minutes now (it used to take 10 minutes). The wifi drops constantly. Audio glitches most of the time. It is really frustrating and has only gotten worse with time and updated drivers.
I have a MacBook for work that I run MacOS (and the OS from my employer) on and it seems to work more nicely that my MacBook Pro.
Does the MacBook run Windows XP more reliably that the MacBook Pro?

In this context, I think Kappy was suggesting that "defective" meant that your
XP had either not installed correctly or the installation had become corrupted.
I know it's a complete pain and would waste at least a day, but I'd be tempted
to reformat the Boot Camp partition and try installing again from the Win XP CD.
The BSOD issue with the MBP has been present since early on and reported by others as well. The problem is with the Apple supplied driver(s). (I have run diagnostic tools that point to the wifi driver being part of the problem, but not the entire problem. I suspect that there might also be an issue with the touchpad driver, but I haven't run any tests to verify that.) I just don't get the sense that Apple has much motivation to fix the problem(s). The nature of the BSOD problem (as reported by the BSOD) is something that could lead to the other problems that I have observed.
I have had my MBP for a few months with no sign from Apple that the issue is being addressed. The MBP is a great machine, but unless someone ports all of the apps that I need to MacOS X, I need to run Windows better than it does.
So, any more reports on how well XP runs on a MacBook?
