Any suggestions on how to set all ringtones at once?
I want to know when a call comes in if it is from one of my contacts (and therefore someone that I know), or if it is not (and therefore probably a sales call). I only have 5 contact that currently have unique ringtones and would halve no problem resetting those after I did a full change. Again, just changing the default does not accomplish this distinction, all incomming calls ring with the default ringtone, unless the contact is has a different ringtone.
that is correct. That is the action that you are describing. The default ringtone is just that, default. Unless you set a unique tone for other contacts. The only way to set a unique ringtone for someone is to manually set it, and there is no way to set a default for contacts and then a default for unknown callers.

my iPad was stolen in brazil. i cannot get the manufacturer id number from my iPhone or my macbook air....they are all linked together though. any suggestions on how and if i can possibly retrieve this and thus locate the device? thanks julie
Launch iTunes, go to the Preferences, select Devices, and hover your cursor over the backup file for the iPod. That should show you the serial number, IMEI, and possibly the MEID.
The manufacturer ID will not help you locate the iPad, though. If you set up the Find My iPad service in the Settings prior to the iPad going missing, then there is a chance that can be tracked, though it depends on a number of factors (the iPad is turned on, connected to a WiFi or 3G network, and has not had the Find My iPad service disabled or the iPad been completely restored).
If you did not set up Find My iPad, then there is no way to track it. Contact the police and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPad (the iTunes Store, for instance).

Hi! I have a library of around 1000 songs on my iTunes, I recently synced my phone and all was lost, my partner has the same songs on hers with a different sign in, but not backed up anywhere, any suggestion on how I can store her tunes in my account ??? Then sync them to mine? When I sign her phone into her account I get a message warning that if I sync the dogs on her phone will be replaced by the ones in the library! But as there are no songs there I'm reluctant to continue!!! Please help this non techi guy.!!!!!

Thank you so much for providing the details about the duplicate song issue you are experiencing. It sounds like you would like to remove the duplicate songs that will not play on your iPhone, but when you connect it to iTunes, iTunes only shows you one copy of the song on your iPhone.
In this situation, I recommend deleting the individual songs that do not play directly from your iPhone. I found the steps to do this on page 61 of the iPhone User Guide (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf):
Delete a song from iPhone: In Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete.

Hi all, my external hardrive is no longer being recognized on my Macbook pro after I tried to transfer some documents from another Macbook( that used the Lion operating system) to mine. i'm currently using the Mac OS X 10.6.8. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
I suspect the drive got disconnected, somehow, on that other system and corrupted the drive because of the Disconnection.
Connect it to your system and open Disk Utility and see if the drive is even being seen. If it is all the data on is more then likely lost and it will need to be repartitioned and or just erased and reformatted. -
I have an eight year old IMAC with the Intel dual core. Today for the first time a fine white vertical line appeared on screen in all applications. I do not know if I did something or if this is a larger problem. Everything else seems to be working alright. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.
Eight-year old iMacs did not have Intel processors. Please do "About this Mac" from you Apple menu to see something like this:

The iphoto on my macbook isn't responding. I click on the app but once it opens it starts to load and thats all it does. The wheel continues to spins. any one have any suggestion on how to fix the problem? i'd appreciate the help =]
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

iTunes sometimes splits songs from the same album into several albums, all sort fields appear to match. Any suggestions on how to return them to the proper album?
Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.
N.B. Giving different things the same sort value (or indeed vice versa) tends to lead to trouble.

Go to settings>messages>send and receive at>you can be reached by iMessages at> Uncheck your phone number and you can select your Apple ID emal address if you want to use that for messages.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Any suggestions on how you can transfer photos (including location description etc) from iphoto's on a Mac air book to a Mac? Whenever I export the pictures the additional information is lost
Two ways:
1. File -> Export. Set the Kind to Jpeg or Tiff
Check the boxes at 'Location Information' and 'Titles and Keyword'
The information is written to the iptc and Exif metadata on the file.
2. Use iPhoto Library Manager This will get all of the information plus faces and edit history

Also try settings>general>reset>reset all settings
If you have followed that article and restored your phone and set it up as new and you're still having that issue you may call and explain you followed the article and are still having the problem. Most likely they will either set up a replacement for you. If they ask you to set up the one time phone support agreement, and they assist you with a restore again, they won't bill you if they end up having to repair it.
