Any talk of a SPAM filter?
Anyone heard about anyone developing a spam filter for the iPhone. It's really tedious deleting all this spam one at a time, when SpamSieve catches it all on my Macs...
Yes, and I don't need to be concerned about transferring my SpamSieve settings and learned settings from my computer to my iPhone. I access my .Mac account with the Mail application on my Mac as well as with the email client with my iPhone and this works for me. Not as easy with a POP account, but a POP account was not designed to be accessed with multiple email clients anyway.

No more anti-spam filter or block list updates?
Our Exchange Server 2007 (Enterprise) was receiving these updates rather frequently until February 2nd. There was a connection error but then nothing. I just looked in the Microsoft update catalog and the server
is has the latest updates (compared against the Exchange console).
What gives? Did support stop? Or, when will the spam and block list updates resume? Our spam has increased dramatically since that date... I've been searching a lot but everything I find only talks about having
that service enabled, which it is.
TIA
Here are the latest versions I have installed:
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Enterprise Block List Updates v3.3.14529.029 (2/2/2015)
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Enterprise Anti-spam Filter Updates v3.3.14528.472 (1/29/2015)Thank you for trying to help and offering that reply. I did try that originally. I've disabled and re-enabled both through the command line and through the management console. Everything shows that the updates
are off/on (as I make the change), indicating all the commands are working as they should.
Unfortunately, it seems there just aren't any updates. It doesn't make any sense. When I go to the link below, I don't see anything there beyond February
1st. And, I have all the updates through then (on the block/spam side) and I can receive manually and automatically all the updates for SBS 2008 in general since. It's just this one product feature not working/updating...
Is anybody getting updates for Exchange 2007 Enterprise?
Here's the link that's not showing any updates since February 1st, 2015:
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Rss.aspx?q=exchange+server+2007+anti-spam&lang=en -
when i try to set up my icloud account the system says it is sending me an email to verify. I never get the email and it is not in my spam filter. How can i get set up??
Make sure that your Apple ID is your email address and you do not have any other or old IDs associated with you. Go to www.appleid.apple.com and confirm this info. Make sure that the email address you are trying to sign up with is your primary one.

Amavisd not running, mails not delivered when spam filter is enabled
Hey everyone,
So I've got a slight problem here with a 10.4.11 server. Our spam filter was set to be too tolerant of spam, allowing a threshold 22.0 before bouncing it, so through the command line I edited /etc/amavisd.conf to $sa_kill_level_deflt = 6.0; tag2 is set to 3.0. Then I bounced amavisd via:
sudo /bin/launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.amavis.amavisd.plist
sudo /bin/launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.amavis.amavisd.plist
Well that caused all sorts of whacky issues with the queue. The server couldn't connect to itself and wouldn't deliver any mail, only queue it up. So I went back in to amavisd.conf and changed the parameters back to default, then bounced amavisd again. To no avail. Then I restored from a backup file I had created and bounced amavisd again to no avail.
Finally I removed the junkmail and virus filters via SA, saved, then reenabled them to no avail. Then I just disabled them and mail is flowing again, but I still have 187 messages in my queue that wont get delivered no matter how many times I flush it.
After more research, I issued a ps -U clamav to see if amavisd is running, below are the only results I get:
PID TT STAT TIME COMMAND
1291 ?? Ss 0:00.01 freshclam -d -D -pfreshclam.pid -c 1
I would assume it is NOT running...? I next issued amavisd to see if it throws any errors, and get the following:
ERROR: MISSING REQUIRED BASIC MODULES:
MIME::Parser
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/bin/amavisd line 139.
So my next question is how do I repair amavisd so I can get it to run so I can reenable the content filter. Here are the results of postconf in case you need them:

AndrewTo get the queue going, issue:
sudo postsuper -r ALL
That said, I would think you initially introduced a typo in amavisd.conf. Next you probably restored amavisd and amavisd.conf files which were incompatible with each other and/or amavis incompatible with the updated perl modules of the latest security update.
To fix things, I would re-apply the latest combo updater and security updates (assuming you are running stock versions and have not installed your own versions of amavisd, etc).
If things still do not work, please post the output of:
amavisd -V -
Email SPAM filter doesn't work
Is the webmail SPAM filter supposed to ... like ... prevent SPAM? I get the same SPAM every day. The SPAM button does nothing,
I have been marking about 30 per day as spam and forwarding all of them to the address that Verizon says is for undetected spam. The spam I get is all from the same outfit, I believe, based on the uniformity of how they package their notes and the fact that all of the links are spoofed. One would think that after 30 a day for several months, somebody in Verizon would wake up to the fact that Verizon users are getting killed with spam. One would think that if they truly cared about our email experience they would have an army of folks jumping on the spam we forward to them, aggressively pursuing it and working to reduce it. The fact is that they show no evidence of putting forth ANY effort at making our experience better.
The fact seems to be that they have little concern for their email users. The more of us that stick with Verizon for our home internet service, paying them their monthly fee, but jump to other, better email providers merely means less work for them. Not a bad model for making maximum profit, but a sucky way to treat customers.
My Verizon Wireless service has been fantastic. But my Verizon phone/internet service sucks. I'm just waiting until another provider is available in my area so I can leave Verizon forever. Lousy support, uncaring employees. I send in notes to them and get zero response. Look at the complaints in these forums that continue to rack up. Almost no response from the company. We're all left to try to deal with our problems ourselves with only minimal support. Probably some intern that spends his/her shift playing Angry Birds. -
Messages released from spam filter do not appear in mailbox IF released more than once.
PLEASE HELP!! We use the Mailfoundry 2100 spam filter appliance in our organization. We are looking at alternatives for how we handle messages that this unit classifies as spam. We are running Exchange 2010 SP3 next inline to the Mailfoundry.
Here is the issue. When a message is quarantined on the spam filter, the recipient is notified and given the option to release the message so that it comes into their mailbox. That works fine... THE FIRST TIME they do it.
If the same user, for any reason needs to go back and release the same message again, it DOES NOT make it to their mailbox.
Here is the catch. Every time the message is released, it is making it to the Journaling Mailbox.
So to clarify what's happening, if I release a message from our spam filter for the second time, the message shows up again in the journaling mailbox, but it DOES NOT show up in my mailbox. It works the first time, but after that, it does not.
I have used all of the Exchange Toolbox options to try to find the issue, but to this point nothing has helped. I hoping some of you Exchange Guru's can help me out here.
Chris VI have looked at the logs and here is the only difference I see. I must add that you should read each entry from the bottom to the top. If reading it this way, you will see that the second line is missing the name of the server on the failed (2nd) message
release. Any ideas?
Here is another one I released 3 times. -
Barracuda spam filter not downloading mail to xserve - smtp problem?
Hi-
We just had to upgrade from 10.3 to 10.5 last week (a nightmare that seems to be continuing). We seem to be up and running but there is a weeks accumulation of mail on our barracuda spam filter thzt is not coming through plus any new e-amil from outside the network. Mail seems to be working okay from within the doman. I did a serveradmin check on mail and it is running. In looking through other posts I tried to telnet into the smtp port. I get a timeout when I try to connect from another machine. When I try through localhost I get:
sh-3.2# telnet localhost smtp
Trying ::1...
telnet: connect to address ::1: Connection refused
Trying ::1...
telnet: connect to address ::1: Can't assign requested address
Trying ::1...
telnet: connect to address ::1: Connection refused
Trying ::1...
telnet: connect to address ::1: Can't assign requested address
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 xserve.testeq.com ESMTP Postfix
quit
221 2.0.0 Bye
The mail.log file does show that the Barracuda is connecting but possibly intermitently?
Of course there could be another problem involved but does anyone have an idea of what may be happening?
Thanks,
Alan Husby
Test Equipment Corporation
Any ideas as to why this should be happening?Okay - I found a problem with /private/anvil, added anvil line to master.cf and then ran the /etc/postfix/post-install script - Are there any other post install scripts that no one saw fit to put in the documentation that need to run?
I can now connect to the smtp port from another machine. I still get the above errors when I connect to localhost (but it does connect, I forgot to mention above). Still no sign of the weeks worth of mail backed up on the barracuda... -
Can I setup a spam filter on my ipad2 email?
How do I setup a spam filter on my ipad2 email?
You have to set up any spam filters in your webmail email using a browser. The Mail app on the iPad does not have a spam filter function. Go to your webmail and set it up in the account preferences.

SpamAssassin Rating high but Mail-Spam-Filter doesn't catch it
I have SpamAssassin running on my Mail-Server and Mail set to trust the server-side-spam-filter (And as Apple states SpamAssassin is compatible (even used in OS X Server)).
Most Spam gets crunched but I have some that I get over and over again although the SpamAssassin rating is set and often even above 9.
Can I somehow make Mail more sensitive to the rating?
(I don't want to use a custom rule to sort it because then the new mail sound will play for any spam as well.)No, it doesn’t make sense. You may want to read Mail Help’s “Automatically processing email” article to better understand how rules work in Mail.
the rules operate before the messages are placed in any mailbox
Rules are fully applied to each message, one at a time, in the order they appear in the list. How could it be otherwise? What you say doesn’t make sense to me...
What I should have also suggested is 'stop evaluating rules' on the first rule
That would be redundant and useless. Mail stops evaluating rules for messages moved to another mailbox by a preceding rule.
Rule 2 exists only to make the sound
Problem is, it would also play the sound for junk messages not caught by the first rule.
I suggested 'To includes @' to catch all mail not filtered out by rule 1
Not sure what you mean. If you want the second rule to be applied to every message not caught by the first rule, there is an Every message condition for that.
perhaps move to inbox isn't necessary?
Not only is it unnecessary. As I said, it might cause an infinite loop that Mail cannot handle properly.
This way the spam won't trigger the sound but everything else will.
And that’s precisely part of the problem, that everything else, including junk mail caught by the built-in junk filter (which is applied after all the other rules), will trigger the sound... -
spam filter works fine BUT: it marks my outgoing mails as spams. What can I do, I´m afraid on other servers my mails will be rejected. All settings in my mail preferences concern incoming mails, I didn´t find a way do change behaviour for outgoing mails.
Anyone knows about this?
ThanksThis is my problem as well. I was noticing some problems with Mail not picking up some junk and so I reset and went back to Train. Now I've been training for about a week and every mail I send gets marked as junk, eventhough I continually remark it. Any suggestions? Thank!

Problem with spam filter on my macbook air mail app
My spam filter just stopped working one day- lots of messages getting through. I tried monkeying around with the preferences but have not seen any results. I don't actually know what all the setting s mean so I have probably messed it up good. Please- which settings should I have it set on to block obvious spam and "learn" what else I consider spam. Thanks.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful. -
No mail arrived to 10.6.6 Mail Server after enabling "zen.spamhaus.org" spam filter. I can send to any, but receive only from local domain. And after disabling the filter, I can receive smoothly from all domain. My server is not blacklisted and it's firewall working correctly.

Can you find a solution to this.Hi Dave,
Following are the detailed steps to uninstall Anti-Spam:
Close the EMC (Exchange Management Console).
Open the PowerShell and navigate using the following path: "Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Scripts".
Run the "uninstall-AntispamAgents.ps1" script as shown in window (with ./ before the script name) below:
Note: You will be prompt to disable and then uninstall each agent of the Anti-spam system like the Connection filtering, content filter, Sender filtering etc.
Restart the "Microsoft Exchange Transport" service in order to apply configuration changes.
Open the Exchange Management Console, and on the Organization configuration list, select
Hub Transport. You will see that the "Anti-Spam" tab has been removed from the Hub Transport properties.
I suggest double check whether you have re-start the Transport service.

Ground Hog Day redux with recurrent overly aggressive spam filter on Verizon outbound email
Each day I send out two emails. Each is to one addressee. Each contains as an attachment a jobs newsletter my two friends have asked me to forward. About every two weeks since this summer the Verizon spam filter identifies my emails as "spam." This then requires contacting the Verizon spam site and within a day or so I can send my two daily emails until the spam filter blocks them again.
Has anyone had any success with a more permanent fix? Is there anyone at Verizon who cares that their customers are being inconvenienced by their war against spam? I don't like being collateral damage in that war.
Thanks,
BillVerizon does care that legitimate emails are being blocked. That is why they have the [email protected] address available in the first place. It actually causes fewer problems than allowing spam to continue unabated, which leads to situations where entire DOMAINS block ALL Verizon mail for days, even weeks at a time. The outbound spam filter isn't perfect, but it IS a step forward.
Sending false positives to the [email protected] EVERY time is the best way to help the filter improve.
Some other troubleshooting steps you can try:
If you have a signature, try removing one line at a time from it and attempting to send the message again. Some signatures look like "ads" to the filters, apparently.
If you are using a pop3 client (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) try sending your message from the verizon.net website. If this resolves the issue, then it is something that your client is adding to the message that is causing it to be blocked.
If the Subject line of your message has a whole bunch of "Fwd: Fwd: Re: Fwd:" try removing some of them.
If a forum member gives an answer you like, give them the Kudos they deserve. If a member gives you the answer to your question, mark the answer as Accepted Solution so others can see the solution to the problem.

Not happy w/ built in spam filter--recommendations?
Hi.
I have a client w/ 50 mail users who are not happy with the built-in spam filter on OS X server 10.4.8. It does catch a lot, but not enough for them. (I have flagged it at 3, and they still aren't happy).
So, is there either a software spam filter you recommend that runs on another machine (pc or mac, I don't really care, but client would prefer it run on a mac) or a hardware filter?
The two that came to my mind were (hardware) Barracuda or (software) ProxMox running on an old pc. I don't seem to be able to find a good software product running on OS X.
Thanks again. The software built in to Mac OS X Server is actually very good, you just need to tweak it a little. You'll have to give up on the "Apple Server Admin" interface though and learn about configuring postfix, spamassassin and amavisd by hand.
First, tighten up postfix to not accept so much bad mail. http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/articles/focusspampostfix/ has good (but not perfect) tutorial, keep in mind that some of this is already in place already (like the amavisd stuff he talks about near the end). Make changes one at a time and monitor the results for a few days, if you do something that is too strict you may block real mail (from terminal, "grep reject /var/log/mail.log" will show what's getting blocked).
Next, fix Spamassassin's bayesian learning which is misconfigured - see the posting by "pterobyte" at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=258593 - and set up the "junkmail" and "notjunkmail" accounts so you can forward spam and not-spam messages to train the bayesian filter (that's in the Apple documentation, except that it doesn't actually work if you don't fix the problem that pterobyte addresses).
Then do what everyone else suggested for installing SARE rules and rulesdujour, you should also follow the instructions at spamassassin.apache.org to set your own scores for different rules. -
Hi,
I am new to the forum though I have been with BT for a number of years now. I use BT Yahoo for my emails, the spam filter has been great until about 3 weeks ago, when I started to a number of spam mail coming straight ito my inbox. It's not causing any breach of my security (at least I hope it hasn't) but it is very irritating. I make a mail as spam and get the same mail a few hours later. I am not sure why suddenly this has started happening and how to filter it out as previously.
ThanksSame here. Since start of January a significant number of spam emails are getting through which is very frustrating. All spam filter settings are on, I've tried everything and am getting fed up with it.
