Any Temperature Monitor apps working on MBP yet?

I've got a hot MBP like a lot of people here.
Before I call Apple, I wanted to quantify just "how hot" it is, but Temperature Monitor 3.3 "can't find a sensor" when it launches. Their product page states that they don't "fully support" MBP yet but will soon.
So. Any other way to get the internal temp reading until Temperature Monitor gets updated?
Thanks

Hardware monitor 3.4 (Marcel Bresnik Software
Systeme) is a Universal Binary. It gives me pretty
accurate temperatures. At the hottest, my MBP
records temperatures at about 117 degree Fahrenheit.
It is pretty hot to the touch, but since I survived
summer temperatures that hot as a kid, it isn't
extreme. Don't know how this compares to a PB; my
other machines are iBooks.
Do you consider this very hot or normal operations. After about 2 hours of continuous use (mostly web surfing) my wife's 12" PB is showing 113degF processor topside and 133degF graphics processor temps. It does not appear to be running any more than normal temps to me. Just trying to get a benchmark for my comtemplated MBP purchase.

  • Do any iPod Touch apps work on the iPad?

I have an iPod Touch and am getting an iPad soon and was wondering if any of the apps I have purchased for my iPod touch will work on the iPad.
I have some specific ones in mind if the answer is "it depends." I will post them out if that's the case. Thanks in advance for your help!

Virtually all current iPhone/iPod touch apps work. However, they're not going to take advantage of the larger screen or any new-to-iPad features. By default, they run in a centered rectangle that's iPod touch-sized. You can pixel-double that to fill the screen, though you may see the "fat pixels" (they're there, but more noticeable in some settings than others - graphics, rough-edged letters, etc.)

  • Best temperature monitoring app.? Freeware or Shareware.

    Hi,
I really need to know my G4's components' temperature, so if you know which temperature app. is the best and why, I'd really appreciate if you shared!
I looked last night on the Version Tracker site, but it was kinda difficult to choose an app. Any favs out there? Freeware or Shareware, I'll take either.
    Thanks_

    I use Temerature Monitor: http://www.bresink.com/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html
I can't say whether or not it's the best, but it seems to work very well on both my G4 and G5.

  • Lightweight temperature monitoring app or command ?

    Hello everyone,
I game with my Macbook Pro and therefore I like to keep an eye on my temperature.
I use to have the iStat Nano widget but it was discontinued and not available on the Apple site anymore. However I can find it on others but I wonder why it was discontinued, maybe it's not supported on Mavericks or something, or simply a choice of the author ?
Anyway I am looking for a lightweight app or command to check the temperatures. If possible free.
Any input on this would be really nice. Thanks a lot ! Cheers !

Look at iStats.  It is a free, actively developed, Ruby gem, and can be run from the Terminal.
You install it into OS X from the Terminal. It will whine about hex characters not converted. Ignore these messages.
    sudo gem install iStats
Should you decide that you want to uninstall it:
    sudo gem uninstall iStats
You run it from the Terminal as:
    iStats --help
    iStats
The following output is from a 2014 MacBook Air that was just powered on. On your MBP, it will probably show two fans and their speed.

  • Why Won't Any Of My Apps Work !?

Kso, I Followed All Of The Youtube Videos, All Of The Entries, Even The Help FAQS Here, And Still, Nothing.
No Matter What I Do, My Apps Won't Work.
Each Time I Go To Download A New App, It Says I Have To Log In, So I Do, Then It Tells Me I Have To Re-Enter My Payment Information.
So I Re-Enter It, And It Tells Me My Security Code Isn't Right! (I Should Mention I'm Using A Prepaid Vanilla Mastercard, That Still Has $5.00 Left On It).
So No Matter What I Do, Nothing Works. Help?

Can I suggest two things (actually, I'm not asking...).
Stop using a capital letter for every single word. It makes your post very difficult to read and despite reading it twice I still find it difficult to work out where exactly the problem is.
Confirm that you have followed the advice Illaass gave; i.e. check the link page about your card's code "isn't right."
Actually - I am going to suggest something else; modify your attitude.
I can see precisely what you have attempted to use as an ID on this forum and the tone of your post adds to the hostilty that you have. We here - all of us including Illaass, give our time for free. We are not Apple employees, we are simply trying to help our fellow users. We don't need hostilty, so if you continue to act that way, don't be surprised at a lack of help because until you calm down, you will not be able to see the obvious.
...and obviously, Apple employees don't need the hostilty either.

  • Activity Monitor not working correctly / not listing processes

When I open Activity Monitor, it does not display a list of processes. The CPU usage works in the bottom of the window as does the disk usage. None of the other graphs display any graphing/data.
I have rebooted, relaunched AM and I selected "all processes" but it still doesn't show processes.
I used the terminal command "top" and can see processes in the terminal window.
    thanks for any assistance,
    Harold
    imac 2.8 dual core/24"/2gb/os10.5.5

Thanks for the quick reply. I couldn't find the activity monitor preferences file you specified, in the Preferences directory. Here's what I've done: I rebooted from an older backup image on my external drive that I made using superduper. The activity monitor app worked from this disk image. I copied the AM app into my current drive, where it showed as a copy.
I rebooted, and attempted to use this copy. It wouldn't let me due to file permissions problems of some sort. I opened the current version of AM and now it works.
I'm not sure what fixed the problem, but Activity Monitory now seems to be working OK.
    thanks,
    Harold

  • MBP i7 15" - External Monitors not working

    Hi All,
Ive been using HDTVs over HDMI and Dell Monitors over DVI fine for the last 2 months, but as of a few weeks ago. I cant get any output at all on either connection!
When I plug in my Miniport adapter, the MBP screen blinks blue (as it usually did, when about to change display settings) but then nothing happens. No external monitor output at all, in any shape or form!
Similarly, when I plug the HDMI/DVI into the TV, it auto-detects that something has been plugged in and begins trying to auto-detect a signal but to no avail (mean while the macbook screen flicks to blue as described above).
I refuse to believe that my adapter is knackered, as when plugging and unplugging, both TV and MBP show signs that its trying to connect.
I've rebooted, and done the SMC reboot, and even uninstalled gfxCardStatus in case that was affecting it, but no Joy.
I have upgraded to 10.6.5 but I cant be sure when this actually occurred, and as to whether or not this caused the problem.
    Any help would be lovely.
    Kind Regards
    Oli

    I'm struggling with a very similar problem. (Thinkpad W540, K2100, Ultradock 170W)
I am using 2 external monitors right now in bios display standard mode - it's the only way they work at all for me right now. I have tried uninstalling graphics drivers, enabling advanced mode, and restarting, but none of the external displays are detected. I've also tried updating the dock's firmware, but it doesn't seem to be updating (this may have already been updated).
    Current working setup:
    - 2 x 22" external LCDs connected to Ultradock via DP -> DVI cables
    - Laptop integrated LCD
Related but not quite as equally frustrating, the integrated LCD does not resume when waking the computer from a sleep state. Only a reboot brings the display back.
I'd like to connect another 24" display over HDMI, but don't have any confidence of it working since advanced mode is utterly worthless for me at the moment. I'm quite dissatisfied especially since I purchased an extended warranty and last time I called for support Lenovo tried to sell me an additional support plan claiming that software was not covered under my current warranty.

  • Question 4 Audio Pros using MBP booted in Win XP- do Win audio apps work?

Are any of you audio pros successfully using windows audio apps on a MBP booted into Win XP?
I understand that most pros will use native Mac audio applications under Mac OS X - there are obviously plenty to handle almost any job. However... the fact is, there are some very cool audio applications available for use under Windows exclusively.
While I do currently own a PC, I have owned dozens of macs in the past (ranging from the 33MHz Quadra 950, through the PowerBook G4 1GHz & PowerMac Dual G4 1.25GHz - all while working as a professional audio engineer). With that said, my experience with virtually booting into Windows with a Mac was horrible at best - specificially when attempting to use Windows for specialized audio work. But I haven't worked on a Mac since the fall of 2004. In the past 3 years, a lot has changed with the Mac line.
If you're an audio pro who has had success using audio applications made for windows on a MacBook Pro 2.2 or 2.4GHz, would you please let us know which Windows audio application(s) you have used with success?
(Please, if you do not have direct experience using audio applications for Windows on your MacBook Pro, please refrain from posting. I'm looking for comments from professionals with first hand experience, not opinions on what might or might not work. My most sincere thanks in advance.)

It appears that you CAN use audio programs under Parallels without issue... I'm SOLD on this MBP. Thanks to oxxle from Germany for the assistance answering this question.

  • MBP Temperature Monitor??

Just got my 17" MBP and it's great!!
I am new to the laptop world, so if someone can recommend a temperature monitor (preferably free) that would be great.
It seems fine, but I'd like to be able to monitor this.
    Cheers

Personally I prefer Michael Bresnik's "Hardware Monitor" since it has temp, load, fan speed etc etc sensors. Just about everything you can think of and it doesn't require any outside 3rd party hyacks/drivers. Its a great package, wil show just about any sensor in either the menu, superimposed on the display or in a wondow and literally monitors just about everything.
    Great program!

  • Mini DisplayPort to VGA isn't working. It won't recognize any external monitor. It worked just fine with my older spring 2011 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, but now with my brand new 2012 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion, it no longer works

I just bought a new MacBook Pro this summer and was all excited. But I'm very frustrated right now because I can't connect to any external monitors through VGA. My thunderbolt (DisplayPort Mini) to HDMI works just fine, but when I try with my other connector to go from Thunderbolt (DisplayPort Mini) to VGA, Nothing works. my screen goes blue and changes size like it recognized something but nothing is ever detected on the external moniter or projector. I'm not sure what is wrong but it's very frustrating. I'm just very depressed that it worked just fine with my 2-year-old MacBook Pro but isn't working now. I'm running OS X 10.8.2. I just upgraded yesterday from 10.8.1 but that upgrade did nothing to fix my problem. Can anyone help? Thanks

I am haveing this exact same issue. I have plugging in 3 monitors and tried two different VGA to mini displayport and nothing is working. I recently bought a Acer monitor and it work for an hour and now it back to doing the same thing.
When I plug the VGA adapter in to the monitor the monitor think its not connected to a computer then when disconnecting the VGA adapter the monitor thinks it is connected to a computer.
NEED SOME HELP!!! at the point of all my hair is pulled out.
    ^^^
that is the same problem i am having! if anyone can help that would be great i'm losing my mind over here

  • I just updated my iPad 3 to ios 7.02 and can no longer sync with iTunes on my computer running OS 10.5.8. I'm wary about updating to Lion, which may cause any number of apps on my computer to no longer work. Although I may consider purchasing a new laptop

I just updated my iPad to IOS 7.02 and unfortunately can no longer sync with my MacBook running OS 10.5.8. I'm wary about updating to Lion as this may cause any number of apps on my Macbook not to work at all or malfunction. Also my MacBook is 5 years old, and I was thinking about purchasing a new computer. I would like to decide when rather than be forced though. Does anyone have any suggestions for a work around? At the moment I do not subscribe to the cloud, and it looks like that is the only way I can back up my iPad now.

Upgrade to Snow Leopard - it's compatible with the latest version of iTunes, and still supports PowerPC applications.
    $19.99 - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Snow Leopard is required if you wanted to upgrade to Lion, anyway, which you may want to in the future if the latest version of iTunes no longer supports Snow Leopard.

    tnx,I haven't a clue.
As you have been advised in many of your posts, go study the documentation for whichever specific topic you are interested in.
For me to answer your questions, I would need to go get that documentation.
Then I would need to read that documentation.
Then I would need to write a forum post that interprets what I think I learned from that documentation.
It is so very much faster if YOU go do that instead of posting to a forum and expecting others to do it. You will remember what you study for a lot longer time if you teach yourself.

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?
