The trick is creating the illusion of depth and dimensions. At a minimum you should be creating shadows and highlights ( difficult to recommend anything with seeing the actual artwork ). Neon is a sophisticated illustration that will require quite a bit of detail ( even with the lights - off ). Neon also has its own set of imperfections, so something computer generated will need to include those imperfections. Consider "Blends". Post your work so we can see how it is progressing.

Hard to judge with so little of the background image visible.
Some options might be:
• applying a low Gaussian Blur as a Smart Filter
• adding a neutral noise Pattern Overlay (Blend Mode Linear Light) to match the grain/noise of the background image
• adding gray streaks in the proper places to simulate the effect of dust and rainwater
• adding rust to the metallic bars
• re-evaluating the shadow the object drops on the background (especially the shadow on the glass window seems peculiar as it seems too strong and does not offset in relation to the brick wall)
• adding a deeper shadow close to the object and blurring the shadow with increasing distance from the object

Tips for making strings sound more real

Basically i'm having trouble getting my strings from the exsp24 to sound real. mainly the violins. does anyone have any good tips?

It very much depends on what sort of music you are writing and what you want the strings to achieve.
As well as having decent sounding samples, you must make sure that what you are writing are typical string parts. You can have the most wonderful string samples in the world, but if you play "Chopsticks" with two fingers they'l still sound like some chimp playing "Chopsticks" with two fingers.
Broadly speaking, chords should be structured with wider spacing between the bottom notes than the top. Although complex classical music can have chords made up of 8 or more notes, pop music tends to have much simpler writing with perhaps only 4 parts or fewer.
Dynamics are also very important. Listen to any piece of classical string music and you'll notice there is a very wide dynamic range within phrases, and even within the length of a single note.
In general, the sort of sound that comes with Logic are good for long legato lines, or sustained block chords, or perhaps short stabbing sounds (think "Psycho). Because the violin is a fretless, fluid instrument, parts that require more sophisticated articulations will require a more up-scale library that features these articulations, and even then the results are not always great.

Hey all
AI was just wondering if anyone had come up with any new tips for making Garageband run quicker? Theres such a delay form when I move the cursor or press play to when anything actually happens.

Tips for blue screen (BSOD) errors with Windows Vista and Intel Turbo Memory on X61/X61s

Important note: The symptoms and solutions described below address only a small subset of the possible causes for blue screen errors, aka BSOD.
This information can help address blue screen errors specifically
related to Turbo Memory, but may not solve errors related to other
issues. Please read through the instructions completely, make sure they
apply to your system, and after attempting the solutions please post
back with your feedback for the community.
Some users may experience random blue screen errors with ThinkPad
systems running Windows Vista with Intel Turbo Memory hardware. These
blue screens may occur during normal usage on the system or they may
occur when booting into Windows Vista. Blue screens related to the
Intel Turbo Memory hardware may reference a stop code of 8086 with
memory address locations of {0, 0, 0, 0}.
There are two main steps that you can take to help resolve blue screen issues related to Intel Turbo Memory.
Step 1: Update Intel Turbo Memory Driver
If the driver version is before version 1.0.1.1004-7.0.3.1001, please
update to this version.
To determine what version of the Intel Turbo Memory driver is installed:
1.    Click Start, then click Control Panel.
2.    Click System and Maintenance.
3.    Click System.
4.    Click Device Manager.
5.    Expand the Storage controllers category.
6.    Double-click Intel Flash Cache Logic Chip.

Dear Tim,
First off, many thanks for the tips for resolving BSOD with Vista + Turbo Memory on X61. I've been suffering from this BSOD for countless times since I bought in my X61 7673-CW9 in April 2008.
Even prior to having the pleasure to visit this wonderful forum, I followed both steps as indicated, and updated my Intel Turbo Memory driver to 1.5.0.1013 and my BIOS to 7NETB4WW (2.14). However, the BSOD recurrs.
For the past two months, I've recovered my system to factory default settings using Rescue and Recovery for over twenty times, each time with the latest Intel Turbo Memory driver and BIOS. Notwithstanding that, BSOD recurrs.
During these painful experiences, I tried two options: 1) making my X61 up-to-date by using System Update and Windows Update (including Vista SP1 or excluding Vista SP1); 2) keeping my X61 the status as factory default (i.e. without updating through either System Update or Windows Update (the automatic/scheduled update function of both is turned off)). In either case, BSOD recurrs.
I'm 100% positive that the BSOD does not arise from any hardware or software/firmware I install. I never install any hardware (e.g. RAM). And, it is not caused by any software/firmware I install: the clear and unequivocal evidence is that at one time,I encountered BSOD while having restored back to factory setting and booting for the first time.
I live in Taiwan, and I seldom heard this BSOD here.  All of my friends (as most of Taiwan residents) using X61 operate in Traditional Chinese environment, whereas I operate in English environment. In Taiwan, when booting for the first time after purchase/recovery, the Windows Vista Business system provides for lanuage choice (Traditional Chinese or English), and, once chosen, the language cannot be altered later on (unless, of course, the system is restored back to factory default settings).
My system specs are the same as the day I purchased it and are listed below (as I'm not sure if my machine type X61 7673-CW9 is applicable outside Taiwan):
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8300 @ 2.4GHz
Memory: 1.00 G.B.
System: Windows Vista Business (32-bit)
Hard Drive: 160 G.B. @ 7,200 r.p.m.
And, of course, with Intel Turbo Memory 1 G.B.
I contacted the Lenovo support staff here in Taiwan for countless times, but they seem to be clueless. I learned that some friends at this forum downgraded their OS back to Windows XP, but I chose not to. The reason is simple: my purchase price for X61 7673-CW9 includes the Intel Turbo Memory, which cannot function under Windows XP (at least so far).
Therefore, I just wish to share my experience here and perhaps I can get some advice from you and other friends here. Any advice will be tremendously and enormously appreciated.

I have downloaded photoshop elements but I cannot open it. I keep being asked for my Adobe sign in which I do and then the photoshop icon disappears from my side bar - I am on a mac. Please help!

I can't open this product, every time I try to it just asks for my adobe sign in and then when I log in the photoshop icon disappears and nothing opens. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the program but the same things happens.

What's the best technique for making this page work?

The image of the ATV will be a Qucktime file; the visitor will be able to scrub the slider to see a pre-rendered rotation of the model. The visitor will then be able to view a different model by clicking on one of the thumbnails at the bottom of the page. So far so good.
But the visitor will also need the ability to display the model's texture map in a new window (by clicking on one of the the texture map icons on the right), as well as choose wireframe or shaded mode (by clicking on the appropriate text button; this would load a quicktime movie of either a wireframe or textured model turnaround).
So, the trick is getting all the appropriate stuff to load when the user clicks on a lower screen thumnail: The Quicktime movie, the appropriate texture map icons for that model (which in turn need to link to pages containing the correct image), and "Shaded" & "Wireframe" text buttons (that link to the appropriate Quicktime movie.)
I haven't done any web design in years, so I'm using an ancient version of DW (Dreamweaver Ultradev 4), and I'm definitely not up on the latest techniques. I know how to work with frames, but I've heard that it's a good idea to stay away from them. Would layers work for this? I've worked with Behaviours and I know how to do image swaps and hide/show layers, but I don't know how (or if) I can use that trick to make the appropriate texture and wireframe/shaded links appear. Any ideas how I should proceed?

No - I don't think Flash is a good tool for a general purpose website other than for special cosmetic effects. But I do think it is the thing to use if you want those, and not QT.
- I already have a ton of those model animations rendered out as h.264 Quicktime files. They look pretty good and are a reasonable file size. If I bring them into a Flash file, does that convert them into Flash? Will that affect image quality or inflate their file size?
They should convert quite acceptably.

Streaming 3d movies to my Samsung 3DTV using AirPort express and a wireless LAN adapter has not worked. What is my cheapest option for making this happen?

I need a transfer rate minimum of 9mbps. My AirPort express and 3DTV are on different floors, so I cannot directly connect with an ethernet cable. Can I buy an older AirPort express, use it as a bridge, and connect my TV to it via an ethernet cable?

For 802.11n Wi-Fi base stations, creating a roaming network is by far the best choice. This will provide the best throughput between the base stations and your Wi-Fi devices.
If you are unable to build the recommended Roaming network, then a Wirelessly Extended Network is the next best option.

Tips for making master pages??

I am making a master page that will contain jpeg images, and I am having trouble getting them to "snap to" the guides". Before, in CS3, I remember when I moved an image close to a guide, it would automatically "snap to" it, but for some reason that doesn't seem to always happen here. I am not using the baseline or other grids at all, I have made guides. The guides are two perpendicular lines, and try to snap them to the right angle formed by the lines.
Hope that explanation wasn't confusing. I just want to find a good way to set up my master page and to establish guides. It is possible to use the "snap to" with guides alone and not the grids, right? To get rid of the grids I set the spacing for the lines for very large distances so they wouldn't appear at all.

Thanks for the replies. The "snap to" option is on, as well as the "guides in back" option. What will happen is, I drag an image within range of the guide (I'm not using a grid) and it will be very close, but I often have to adjust it slightly, for example (I have it set for inches as the unit of measurement) I want one image to be at the guideline, which is .7817 but too I dragged (drug?) near to the guide ended u at .7823. Once I get this close to the guide, shouldn't the snap to" take over? BTW, my "snap to" zone is 12px.
I see that both "align to object edge" and "align to object center" are checked... should I uncheck "align to object center"?

I was already logged in to My Verizon. I clicked over to the forums, did some searching, couldn't find the answer. So I thought I would post my question. I clicked the "create new post" button and was prompted to log in. I enter my "My Verizon" user id and password (wondering if it would work...) and was taken to a page asking for name and email address which I entered. I was then taken to a page that asked for screen name and other details which I entered. I then posted my question...

11/17 - I came back to the forums (without logging in to anything first) by going directly to the URL above (which I had saved on my desktop). I noticed there was an answer, but I see I need to clarify my question. So I go to log in. I enter the same user id and password I did on 11/15 and was told the combination is invalid. So I went to the "forgot my user id" link, entered the information requested and was told that the account needs to be activiated. So I then (perhaps foolishly) went back to the beginning and clicked on the "register" link. I put in my "My Verizon" user id and password -- AND IT TOOK IT AS NOT BEING A DUPLICATE. But wait, this is the same user id/password I used two days ago, and that I was just told are invalid. Anyway, so I was then taken to a screen asking for a screen name and email address, and you know what comes next...
I entered "noncitizen" and my email address and was told that both that screen name and email address are already in use.
Really, by whom? Under what user id?
I then looked for some kind of a contact link, or help link, or anything, but it seems that unless you have a valid account on the forums you can't get help with the forums. So I setup this account with another "screen name" (angry_user) and a different email address, that I was hesitant to use because it's not one I give out often.
So basically, this is what I would like to happen. (Of course I can wish in one hand and... well you know the rest.)
I would like the "noncitizen" screen name to be assocaited with the "noncitizen" user id. I'm befuddled as to why they are not the same. I might be old-school but I've never been to a forum where you have a user id AND a "screen name". Normally the name you use to log in is your "screen name". Now how that is to be accomplished I will leave to the admin who understands how these associations work. But what I would really like (just because I'm terribly curious) is to know what user id is registered and using the screen name "noncitizen" and my other email address. If it's not me, then who is. Maybe my doppleganger posted that question the other day.
If that means completely removing that account, and this account, and both screen names, and anything I've every posted here (to date, two posts) then please, blow it away!
Sorry if this sounds angry. It's meant to sound playfully cynical. I am a product of my generation. Perhaps I should have made my "screen name" for this "user id" playfully_cynical. Oh well, guess I'll have to create another account for that.
I've tried to make this as clear as possible (you only do so much with mud). I did try the main "contact" page on verizon.com and ended up getting someone who (apparently) removed my "My Verizon" account and instructed me to re-enroll. Um,thanks. I say "apparently" because this morning My Verizon still works for me. There *are* strength in numbers, but there are weaknesses as well. The most typical is poor customer service. Oh wait, I'm asking for help, forget I said that...

1. Find all active authors
2. Find the number of papers for each active author
3. count the number of authors for each department
4. Find the average number of papers and the number of autors for each department

Tips for making DVD@ccess works on PC reliably !!!

Anyone here have experience Authoring in DVDSP using DVD@ccess where your DVD will be played on a PC ??
I beleive you need to install the DVD@ccess plug-in but i can't seem to find it anywhere on the net. Also someone told me the plug in ( for PC ) is installed on the DVD once you authored with DVD@ccess but i can't seem to find it either. Any suggestion ??? Thanks

When you burn an image with DVD@ccess checked in your buld and burn window, it adds the file to the image -- NOTE: As I recall this only happens when you burn an image or master to a Tape backup.
Also, you can put an autostart.ini file on the DVD-rom portion of the disk that runs DVD@access, but unless you get a little fancy with you autostart file, it will try to install it every time!!!
Bottom line is, it's a little quirky!!! Good luck.

PS - there are some DVD programs that flat will not work with DVD@ccess. I think POWER DVD is one, but I can't remember.

What version of IOS are you running?
To delete a song simply swipe from right to left and an option to delete will pop up.
